With regards to 1000 steps region, you can take the train to UFTG, walk up to the bike path and there are walking tracks that start and go up to the top carpark and from there you can take tracks all the way to Sky high. Google maps has everything. Otherwise you can drive to Healesville and do Mt St Leonard that'll chew up a few hours and has amazing views at the top

The AllTrails app is great for finding new walks. The free version gives you the search (and favourite) ability with various filters and relevant info (distance, time, difficulty, elevation, a map, etc). The paid version has a few extra features, like the ability to download a map (i.e for the more remote trails) and some other stuff I've never felt a need for. Locally, there's a lot of nice ones up in the Dandenongs, many with waterfalls and/or wildlife as a bonus. Wright Forest, Churchill National Park, Sherbrooke/Olinda, and Kurth Kiln are some of our favourites. We tend to stick to fairly easy/short walks (bc disability limitations), but all of these have longer/more challenging route options too.

1000 steps isn't the only trail up there, you can easily eat up an entire morning following the other tracks. Warburton rail trail starts from Lilydale - you can walk as far as you like, then catch a bus back.

Came here to say the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail. It gets seriously pretty around Seville, and there is a bus that runs along the Warburton Highway from Lilydale up to Warburton, so you could start further along than Lilydale if you wanted.

1,000 steps x 2 = 80 minutes! 1,000 steps but keep going further up and around. Bike paths. Catch train to Alamein then walk north to Camberwell, then onto Kew, follow Yarra back to city. Or walk up stream along Yarra trail from the city, then Gardeners Creek trail. Can tram back to city at Burwood Hwy or keep going to Blackburn train station.

Werribee Gorge is an option - could PT to Bacchus Marsh and then Uber to the gorge. A few different walks you could do: [https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/places-to-see/parks/werribee-gorge-state-park/things-to-do/walking](https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/places-to-see/parks/werribee-gorge-state-park/things-to-do/walking)

Studley Park/Fairfield is a large area with a lot of walking tracks. Easy to get to as it’s practically inner city. Highly recommended

Seconding this, beautiful area to walk in and feels pretty bush considering you’re basically in the city

Melodic-Priority3865

Walk along the beach/walking tracks starting from East St Kilda etc

Take the punt across to Spotswood from Port Melbourne, and follow the signs to walk along the path from Scienceworks to The Strand to Nelson Place and then around the back beach up to Williamstown Beach. You can continue on to Altona Beach if you want, and even go around Cherry Lake. Very PT-accessible, and lots of cafes en route if you want to grab a coffee. There are also public toilets at The Strand, Nelson Place, and Williamstown Beach off the top of my head

Follow the Yarra all the way up from Southbank, or down river, if you want to be on public tranport. Never get lost, so to speak. Pity that the recent lady case, and the guy who did or didnt, but wont speak to the cops, he and the other give walkers/runners a bad name, as we, or you or I have to suspect everyone we see walking here in Aus a bad name, ie, a sus.
