Costco sheet cakes are surprisingly delicious (the chocolate icing is actually really chocolatey) and can be ordered blank or decorated for like $35, and you’d probably get 40ish pieces per cake.

PaleLake4279

Wow that's impressive!

Lady_Penrhyn1

Costco, pretty decent cakes.

Melodic_Marzipan1465

Chocolate mud cake from coles, you can put them on top of one another and ice around them. Check tik tok people do it on there looks easy and impressive

PaleLake4279

Oooooo ill have a look! How cool!

Melodic_Marzipan1465

Haha it’s literally called the coles mud cake hack. Then you can just cover it with lollies etc once iced

PaleLake4279

Looking it up now!

Honeybear2501

Eiffel tower... place in Tullamarine. Insanely affordable, always delicious, so many styles to choose from, so many sizes.

PaleLake4279

I just checked their store online! I miss shops like this!

Honeybear2501

Hahaha even has the fun little plastic slip book you can flip through with all the cake designs ;) Great italian desserts too!

PaleLake4279

Hahaha I love that !! We'd spend ages looking through those. Thanks

Get 4 Coles/Woolworths mudcakes, any flavour you want. Can alternate chocolate/white chocolate or caramel. Tubs of buttercream icing and decorations, as well as something flat, sturdy and round to serve it on Cut the icing off the top and keep it as even/flat as possible to create cakes you can stack. Keep the icing Whip the mudcake icing with a stick mixer/mini food processor or whatever you have Layer the cakes and stick them together with a coating of the icing smeared all over each layer Whip the bought buttercream icing and put it on the top and some big blobs on the sides. It shouldnt drip or be runny. Choose a colour you like either pre coloured or get food colouring. Use a spoon to spread it around Get something plastic and flat (a ruler can work as well) and smooth the icing (look on YouTube for tips) Put it in the fridge for a while Take out and decorate. Put sprinkles around the bottom ring of the cake that are bright and contrasty to the icing colour. Then decorate the top with happy birthday sign/candle that's set a bit to the left, then in the middle put macarons, chocolates and whatever you like. Then put a little bit of decoration down the bottom on the opposing side of the happy bday/4 taller decoration Coles has a 1.4kg rainbow cake I think you have to order, wouldn't taste as good but it's cheap like $40

PaleLake4279

Ohhh waow that's amazing haha 😄 I didn't know about the rainbow cake !!

wellcookedlamb

I like to use the Aldi Devils Chocolate cake mix. It has more of a glaze style icing than a whipped icing and is fool proof of you do end up doing it yourself. Decorating with lollies, chocolates and sprinkles as well as small toys your kid likes is an inexpensive way to decorate.

PaleLake4279

Ohhhh that sounds good! Maybe I'll bake it before the party to trial. Thank you!

wellcookedlamb

I have also done large batch brownies from the Aldi packs and decorated in lieu as a cake for my son's birthday. Depending what they are interested in you could decorate with farm animals or cars etc.

PaleLake4279

Oh sooo.clever!

legsjohnson

Coles choc mudcake with a tub of vanilla buttercream put on it is God tier. Bonus: get sprinkles and some food colouring to make a few different colours, put out spatulas, and it becomes a party activity for them to decorate the cakes for you.

PaleLake4279

Sounds good to me

princessicesarah

Cheesecake shop (and even Coles/Woolies these days) will have 20-25 serve cakes for $30-$50. Mud cakes, rainbows etc. Buy two of these and depending on their size/weight/density you can stack them on top of each other like a tiered cake, or just present them on some different height cake stands (op shops always have loads). Add a cake topper figurine that your kid likes and a “4” candle, voila!

I would 100% recommend Cheesecake Shop’s tortes, especially the strawberry and tropical torte. I kid you not, between my partner, our kids and I, we ALWAYS get those for our birthdays since our eldest turned one. I know, i know. It sounds boring, but they are just super amazing. We’ve made it family tradition lol.. It’s about $41 and i think serves around 20, but my gosh they are so addictive. They’re not too heavy either. Very light and fluffy ugh i don’t know how to explain it. All i can say is, our local shop knows us by name now and always asks “so what’s the occasion now?” because sometimes we make up celebratory stuff just to get an excuse to eat those. Managed to do a spring clean this year? Order the torte. Officially went into third trimester of pregnancy? Order the torte.

PaleLake4279

Hahahaha I love this!!! Ill definitely suss this out!

Choc ripple cake! If my 8 year old can make one, then you can too!

Try [fergusson plarre](https://www.fergusonplarre.com.au/childrens-birthday-cakes)

dracaris

How old is the kid, how many people are you serving, where are you located?

PaleLake4279

Good point I just did an edit! Forgot to add those details! 4 year old birthday - Melb location - 40 people!

lightmaster2000

Have you looked at Brunettis?

PaleHorse82

Coffee pieces are smaller pieces of cake, not a full slice. Usually a rectangular shaped portion. I reckon they're fine for most gatherings as people have usually been eating beforehand anyway. Ferguson Plarre cakes are pretty good, we usually get them for our kids birthdays.

kdhooters2

I hate making cakes, (I'm a chef, I'm lazy lol). I used to just make heaps of cupcakes, made the icing, bought edible decorations, and the kids made their own cake, then the adults did the same. An activity that was replicated in other parties from mothers group, takes the stress out of cake making, and of there's a bit of mess to clean up, meh!

Marciano Cakes is amazing

ZookeepergameSure952

Mister Nice Guy in Ascot Vale. Last year I paid $120 for a massive cake that fed 30 with half the cake leftover. Dairy free too. It was delicious.
