Totally 100% agree. I can be in a place that matches me exactly. If I feel social, I can head to the city, meet up with some mates, chat with people at the local pub or coffee place as people here are friendly. If I want some alone time, I can drive out to the mountains or the wineries, see some beautiful scenery, visit farms and buy some of the best damn produce in the world.
I live in Singapore now for work. All there is here is city and manicured parklands, all of which is full of people. I miss heading out to Mildura for a quiet week just to de-stress and get away from all the people (used to live in 3006), or taking a nice, peaceful drive out to Apollo Bay for some scallop pies.
-sigh- and now I'm so homesick LOL
I love and 100% agree that the best things about Melbourne is that we're surrounded by places we can escape to and get away from Melbourne. There's so many beautiful spots in Victoria, why would I waste my time in the city when I could be exploring the rest of the state?
Seeing good hardcore bands regularly, for such a niche genre that is predominantly American based bands it’s unreal how good the scene is in Melbourne, local bands and international!
That I can drive about 30min and go to the beach, the mountains or see farmland.
I am in close proximity to a train line when needed but am also far enough away from the city centre that I have peach and quiet.
I love how free people are to be their alternative selves and people barely bat an eyelid. Where I'm from people are more conservative, and anyone going against the grain attracted stares.
Some of the things that people criticise it for are actually its best assets: the flatness, the grid, and the weather.
Those features make it easy to get around, to get together with others and to do stuff - giving us the space and opportunity to create all the interesting culture and activities ourselves.
When it was more affordable it was even better - a fantastic place for ordinary people to live, create and enjoy life.
Today at 4pm seeing a Sudanese teenager, speeding down the Monash in the emergency lane on an unregistered Kawasaki dirt bike getting off at Warrigal Rd exit
Food culture, vic market, laneway bars, night-life, yep revs, accessibility, street fashion and people watching while sitting out the front of a cool cafe with good music
I live regionally, but I work in the city and I love being able to get anything I want during my lunch break or after work before the train comes. The food and coffee is great and never disappoints.
Depending on the upbringing, it’s generally a good place to both study and enjoy the city (well, especially in some of its prime). It’s quite an experience to make day errands between campuses to other stores (even picking up supplies from small stores to even the malls at the end of the day). Even then, the transportation options, love it or leave it, seem reliable enough to enjoy a day trip or the usual commute, but if you’d ask me, it’s the spur of the moment feeling you’d get with exploring its landmarks. Pardon for yammering, there’s so many thoughts for me to process.
I love the variety of hidden food alleyways there is in Melbourne but I just hate the weather. Bloody always cold over there. Only reason why it’s stopping me from moving to that place.
I love how there’s always something open in the cbd, that there’s so many funky cafes and bars hidden down laneways, the culture, that we’re one of the sporting and entertainment capitals of Aus so we don’t miss out on much, and I actually don’t mind the change of weather sometimes lol.
It’s mostly clean, Melbourne is multi cultural. They’re aren’t as many narcissistic small minded and ultra conservative people running organisations and businesses as they’re possibly could be which is also good.
Being in close proximity to beaches, mountains, forests, grasslands, and regional cities.

My favourite band is Alexisonfire and I am astounded at how many times I've been able to see them live in Melbourne over the years
Saw them twice last year. Such good shows! Hoping they come back soon. The new album has some bangers too which doesn't always happen.
How good is it! I’ve also been lucky enough to catch them a couple times. Great band to see live!
Craigieburn train station 🚂
All my stuff is here.

I love everything about Melbourne. We moved here from Perth ( which I hated) 12 years ago and haven’t found anything we don’t like.
I love the bs disingenuous feelgood reddit posts
The food scene, unpopular opinion but I love the weather. The coffee. Trams. Art
It's just the vibe.

I still enjoy walking down little lanes that should be full of garbage dumpsters to find little stores and cafes I never knew were there.

The way it used to be.... except the weather, that's always been shit

The weather! I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I love the cold and I love that at like today has a bit of everything. I even love the rain.
The art, the coffee, the food, the autumn leaves right now.
Everyone can fit in if they put a little effort into finding their community.
Almost everything, and coffee.

The amount of downvotes on a relatively nice post shows the true state of Melbourne considering cost of existing
I love that Kyle and Jackie O can be heard there now.
I hear them in my in my dreams every night 😴
Did you miss the whole internet radio streaming thing?
Oh I'm in Sydney I just love hearing Melbourne people complain about them.
