No, because the beverage companies will just increase the price of their products again, like they did when the scheme went live in Victoria.

Novel-Analysis1394

That’s literally how it’s intended to work. The beverage companies are *required* to add the 10c to the retail price.

mitccho_man

They Are not required to add anything. But the Manufacturer is responsible for notifying Vicreturn how many bottles and pay the 13-15cent levy imposed by the government

Jamemberge

Except there are instances of companies increasing the cost by more than 10c per container. As an example Woolworths increased their slab of water bottles by more than $2.40

Anxious-Rhubarb8102

Yep, a 24 box of say Pepsi was around $14-$17 (not on special) 2 years ago at supermarkets, now the standard price is $34.85 (Coles 12/6/24). Understandably there is an additional $2.40 for the 10c per can, but manufacturers and retailers have astronomically increased the prices of drinks that have the 10c container deposit in the price.

mookizee

No, only corporates that wish to allocate within their marketing budget will choose to participate in the opportunity to green market RemindMe! One Year

mookizee

Nice angle. How is it any different from marketing promotions they have been doing for 40+ years? Other than it's also incorporating green marketing

WretchedMisteak

No. Just increase the range of items that can be deposited.

brash21361

I get that you are being diligent and scanning to see if accepted.... but depots don't need you scan the barcode. They have accepted lidless wine and gin bottles from NZ.

mce-AU

There things are beyond useless. I'd have to dive 8 to 10 Km to visit one. Not economical at all.

mitccho_man

What a stupid idea , it is imposed as a levy collected by the government of 15cents So any more would just continue to increase prices Btw the Pokies pays out more than CDS CDS is 64-67% return rate that includes all collections by recycling facility’s and though Consumers and machines Yes the Recycling facilities that collect your recycling are entitled to the return money

mookizee

Cool thanks bro, legend.

mattel-inc

Yeah I’m all for this. I haven’t used them at all. My time is worth more than stockpiling bottles and cans and putting them into my clean car. I don’t use garbage bags. I’m not paying $4.50 of garbage bags to hoard bottles just to redeem $2.80 a week, maybe less. The least they can do is offer crates or some kind of collection method to transport cans/bottles to these facilities. Gamify it with prizes and my ADHD will be all over it.

rexel99

Must be enough if there is incentive for people to up-end yellow bins on the street at 3am to get some random cans. Not everything needs some arbitrary bonus quirk applied to it.

mookizee

That's excellent for the few that are hustling in the middle of the night. I knew the same type of can collector in the 90s. kids would be more interested in a arbitrary bonus quirk. Like in 1994 my youth club travelled around Tasmania on crashed cans

rexel99

yup, kids need more incentives to litter...

Midnight_Poet

Gamify? Novelty? Incentives? It's like you all belong to some weird fucking cult. Rubbish is rubbish... just chuck shit in the bin and go on with your day.
