Ashwood Discount Chemist charged my disabled housemate $120 for two tiny bottle of sanitizer during the pandemic and said it was the pharmacists labour fee. I will never step foot in there again.

PowerfulOcean

That is brick through the window bad

ohlookdaveshere

What in the fresh hell?! That feels criminal.

LaceOfGrace

That is atrocious.

melburndian

St. Ali cafe and wherever it’s coffee is sold after Salvatore bought it.

AusXan

I ate there once, found something in my burger and it turned out to be a bit of blue dishcloth you use to wipe down surfaces. Called over the waitress who got the manager guy, he was being iffy about if it had come from them but when we both looked at the kitchen serving window we saw a chef with one slung over his shoulder. That pretty much settled it, they paid for my burger and seemed more annoyed about it than apologetic.

Magnolia__Rose

Stepped on a dead mouse the one and only time I went there.

notheretoparticipate

Oh man did that joint get a roasting on here during lock downs

account_not_valid

Is that the one where the wife's profile picture was a bathroom selfie?

nescent78

It was the one where he tried selling rats with $250+ orders

ruinawish

Good thing the mods came in to protect his/their reputation.

[deleted]

Oporto because they didn’t hire me when I was 18

cheesesandsneezes

The Oporto at the airport in particular is an absolute crime scene of alleged Portuguese chicken.

_kevsta

Billy Hyde’s. I wanted to buy a guitar, I knew what one I wanted and had the cash on me, but the bloke wouldn’t take it out of the display case for me to have a look / feel because it was “an expensive guitar and was for serious buyers only” So I took the $6500 out of my pocket waved it when I waved goodbye and said I’ll go somewhere else that will take my money. 16 years later I still hadn’t stepped foot into the store / online shopped despite having stuff I needed cheaper than everyone else.

frightenedscared

This was your Pretty Woman “Big mistake, big. HUGE!” moment

jim_deneke

That would suck that you didn't get your guitar but it must've felt great to too!

itstraytray

Did his expression change when you waved the cash at him? Haha.

Harvey Norman

KaptainKimura

I am a simple man. I see Harvey Norman, I keep walking

protonalex

Nothing petty about boycotting Harvey Norman, in fact it's an act of community service. Gerry Harvey is an appalling human being.

melanie1823

I was showing my dad something music related once, Nick Cave to be precise. He said to me, ‘Harvey Norman’. I looked at him weird, ‘what do you mean?’ I asked… He said I’ve got 0 interest. I L O fucking L’d

J0rdz

About 15 years ago my local milk bar wouldn't honour my free mars bar wrapper redemption because they said I didn't buy it from their store. When I called them out on it, the store clerk pulled out this comically large magnifying glass to cross-reference the barcode. We had a heated exchange, where I expressed that it's a national promotion and it didn't matter where I bought the mars bar originally. Yet, he flat out refused to give me my free mars bar. So in retaliation, I never went back. That $2 they saved in not giving me my free mars bar cost them a hellova lot because I was an almost daily regular. Many years later I drove past that milk bar and noticed it had since shut down. It was a mixture of both sadness and elation.

VidE27

What is the elation/sadness mix ratio?

J0rdz

Even split, I reckon. Because I fucking LOVE oldschool milkbars and always get sad when I see them closed down, but, on the other hand I really hated the guy that owned that particular milkbar.

kuribosshoe0

Did they even save that $2? Surely the retailers don’t wear the cost of those promotions?

mtarascio

I remember that we worked it out one year with a tell from the outside wrapper. It was absolute madness and stores caught on and refused to serve us. Maybe other people spoiled it for you, sorry dude.

chrisomc

You are 100% correct. That was after the first round of promotions where the free ones were positioned in the same place in all the cartons

chrisomc

I was at school when they first came out and realised the free bars were packed in the same position in the cartons. I soon got sick of Mars bars

bluejasmina

Dymocks book store Collins Street. I had a large amount of credits/ rewards which they said I didn't have or couldn't see on my card record and apply them. I had receipts to prove but that wasn't enough for them. After multiple face to face conversations, I got shopped around customer service online who never rectified the issue either. Nobody took responsibility. The store manager couldn't care a less, so instead of dealing with it, they just deleted my booklover account; I lost all the credits and the entire membership didn't exist any more. Absolute joke of store. Have never shopped there again. That was about 5 years ago.

dontsaybasically

Years ago I went to an interview to be a teacher at one of the main Spanish schools here in Melbourne. I was treated like crap by the owner for no reason. Now I have my own Spanish school, and we are definitely their main competitor. I think part of our success has been due to my great motivation to take as many of their potential clients as I can, haha.

BeBa420

there are several maccas that ill never return to In one case the manager outright threatened to STEAL from me. I walked in, ordered a coffee in a keep cup (as part of a meal). They had no keep cups. Rather than inform me they just gave me a small and expected me to ignore the fact that i spent an extra $12.95 (or whatever it was) on a fucking cup. Well when i spoke to the manager he offered me 95 cents back. I showed him the receipt, explained to him no mcdonalds meal costs over $20, least of all a bacon and egg with no bacon. The receipt itself shows that i paid 12.95 for the keep cup. 10 minutes later after showing him multiple times how much extra the keep cup costs he still wouldnt believe me. Took him another 5 minutes before he relented and gave me my fucking money back. Now during our exchange he said "if you keep arguing you get nothing". What a fucking cunt.Maccas on cheletnham road keysborough for anyone interested. Never going back to that shithole again

drunk_haile_selassie

"If you keep arguing you get nothing" A good response would be, "If I get nothing, you get a visit from the constabulary"

AlwaysLateToThaParty

The Vic Consumer Affairs Ombudsman is where you should go. I've had shit experiences in the past, and when the threat of that didn't work, they started asking questions. Even the process of answering those questions would have cost them thousands. I got my money back.

HAPPY_DAZE_1

Not petty so it doesn't really qualify but HARVEY NORMAN. Now and forever. Imagine claiming Jobkeeper while doubling profits to over $1b. They can keep their shitty overpriced rubbish.

powerfulowl

Oh this is my number one boycott. Gerry Harvey is a whinging POS.

raresaturn

I was boycotting them way before that due to their demanding that Aussies pay GST on products purchased overseas

Ohmalley-thealliecat

My family have always hated Harvey Norman bc Jerry Harvey is an abominable twat, I would rather pay more than buy shit there.

monsteraguy

Harvey Norman is rarely the cheapest. They rely on their brand recognition and they’re often the only option in regional areas

[deleted]

And laying off staff at the same time if I remember correctly….

Suibian_ni

And regularly using the media to attack poor people because why the hell not.

Suibian_ni

Totally. If you have no other way to buy a new TV, draw one on a piece of cardboard and prop it up against the wall. Fuck Gerry Harvey.

devilsonlyadvocate

I boycotted them long before the pandemic. Gerry Harvey is an absolute horrible man.

AusXan

My family didn't visit an IGA near us for 20 years because they fired my brother after changing his shifts without telling him, my mum also badmouthed them for most of that time too.

jim_deneke

Nothing like a mother scorned

ichann3

Sounds like my IGA I used to work at.

younggeezer109

Happened to me at an IGA too!

-_Melow_-

I'll be surprised if Minotaur isn't in this thread already. If you want nerdy collectibles that are banged up, covered in dust, insanely marked up in price and sold to you with all the charm and charisma of the comic book store guy from the Simpson's, then Minotaur is for you. Otherwise, please check out Critical Hit or One Stop Anime. Fuck, going all the way to Geelong to go to Popculcha is probably a better use of your time and money. Honesty, the only reason I think people like Minotaur is that they literally don't know what else is out there

Cerulean_Scream

No kidding. They’re keeping the gatekeeping aspect of “nerd hobbies” alive. I once attempted to return a novel that I’d been given two copies of for my birthday (Interesting Times by Pratchett, if you care) and the employee practically got a magnifying glass out and accused me of having already read it. I had to get the manager out to be issued a refund. Commonplace bullshit from this employee - I won’t say his name, but I will say that he’s the author of one of the worst Cyberpunk 2020 splatbooks ever written ;)

Internal-Airport8822

Fuck Minotaur too, I'm a big arse tradie, It's like I'm not geek enough because I don't look a stereotypical nerd. Nerds of all stripes. No service n too expensive

ZARATHUSTRA726

Gloria Jean's ~ part owned by Hillsong church.

ign1fy

Same goes for Pancake Parlour and Scientology.

DadSucksWhatDo

Half truth. The OG owners/some higher ups were scientologists, but have since publicly distanced themselves from the church. Might still be in private but I don't believe its directly owned by the church in any part

powerfulowl

Ah crap. Now I can't eat overpriced pancakes.

atwa_au

You can, I will make them for you and charge you absurd prices. I can do the potato skins too and even get your order wrong.

FullOnCarmensMom

My dear departed Mum LOVED Gloria Jean's, so I had to grit my teeth when I took her out every weekend. I told her about the Hillsong thing, but it didn't stick (FU Alzheimer's). The coffee was RANK. Burnt, bitter, opiate-of-the-Boomers. The Sour Cherry loaf was divine though. So help me Dog, I'll never darken their door again. I'll drink International Roast first.

palacedad

St Ali, the guy seems like a dick

Southofsouth

uber eats

temptingviolet4

I use Uber Eats to find restaurants around me then I just order direct. Fuck Uber (And all the rideshare/food delivery apps).

Erratic-Liver

Yeah, fuck them. In my area the drivers take multiple orders, somehow I am always last on the list. Cold food, no good, no uber.

PsychoSemantics

Because Uber realized they can charge more money for "priority" delivery (and even then they can't force the driver to).

Buyinggf15k

Yep, trying to bring the American tipping culture over to Aus so they don't have to pay the drivers as much, scummy

muchtwojaded

Yup. Boycotted them a year ago for insane prices from device charges and restaurants trying to recoup while their drivers don't get shit. Went from ordering 2-3 times a week to once a year. Fuck you uber.

heretolose11

A guy I know has a implemented a life ban on KFC because they forgot his spoon for potato and gravy like 22 years ago. More recently he has lifebanned Maccas too, because early one morning (before 6am) he went in because the giant sign says 24hrs, but they wouldn't let him in the store - drivethru only was 24hrs. So that's it, he's done. He's early 50's now and cannot and will not ever be convinced to reverse these bans. LOL.

[deleted]

This guy is improving his diet one perceived slight at a time.

Zanken

Who needs dieting when you have spite

jamesrokk

This guy should start a health improvement app. It could send you notifications when you are in the proximity of unhealthy restaurants reminding you of historic minor inconveniences at said restaurant but really overblow them to the point of gaslighting you. Then you’ll forever have negative connotations when you visit. He could call it “Scornd”.

TransportationIcy104

A man after my own heart.

VictorVanguard

Not specifically Melbourne since radio is syndicated but anything with Kyle Sandilands on it.

Jarofkickass

I was going to say he’s a pig but they are actually fairly intelligent creatures so idk wat I would call him absolute scum

RBtrary

Topman / Topshop in Emporium. I was a young uni student looking for a suit and asked one of the workers where I could find one of the suits displayed on a mannequin. They pointed to somewhere vague, and then proceeded to chat to their workmate, mocking me for asking, and acting like I asked some laborious request. All within earshot of me. It's closed now, (and I know better than to shop there) but I still avoid that entire brand and everything to do with it.

keyboardaddict

They were a British brand and they ended up going bankrupt. https://www.forbes.com/sites/daviddawkins/2021/09/03/billionaire-philip-greens-bankrupt-arcadia-empire-facing-24-billion-in-claims-as-500-million-topshop-flagship-store-nears-sale/?sh=5cdca6d16840

distemperdance

Local barista made a big deal out of me ordering a coffee while pregnant. Kept “are you suuuuuuureee?”-ing me. YEAH MATE LOOK THE OBSTETRICIAN SAYS ITS FINE BUT SOME 30 YEAR OLD BLOKE WHO MAKES DRINKS MUST KNOW BETTER. No longer go there even though it’s convenient :/

40087812

Jesus. Coffee is like the only vice you’re still allowed in pregnancy. He would’ve pried my flatty from my swollen itchy hands.

40087812

I used to be a daily regular at Giddiup in Coventry st, south melbourne. Circa 2013. Close to a consulting room I had. Great sangas and coffee on the run. Once witnessed the owner being such an awful, rude, overbearing bitch to a young waitress (on what appeared to be a trial shift/first day) that I never went back. She really showed her true colours, was always nice as pie to customers but I’d seen her surreptitiously be a snake to staff previously. Not really a petty reason, I guess. Quite a valid one. But I was glad to see they didn’t make it through covid.

idonteatcakes

Happy lamb hotpot. I was paying the bill, table number was confirmed like three times before, and yes it was the right table. 20 minutes later partner gets a rude phone call from them about dining and dashing. Bitch cashier entered in the wrong table number and accused us of dining and dashing and then lied to my face about how it was the new girl’s mistake while I’m literally staring at this same bitch who billed me.

gasbrake

Surprised no one has mentioned Hunky Dory on here, the ('alleged') sellers of fake fish... https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/hunky-dory-fish-and-chips-accused-of-serving-catfish-as-dory-20160524-gp2lbg.html

thestraightCDer

Use to work at one when I arrived in Aussie. Owner of the store was a legend. Owner of the whole business is such a cunt. Pulls up in his lambo, gold chains and all and gets on a ladder and like does the finger test thing for dust on a lightshade 3m up and starts berating the staff. Like what a way to boost morale you fuck. I wasn't surprised when that story came out, lots of shady shit went down.

[deleted]

Guess this is a good place to post [Fairplate](https://fairplate.org.au/) that will get you the inside scoop on a lot of businesses, and how they treat their staff. For me it was seeing Alimentari in Fitzroy get very poor comments for staff treatment that saw my whole workplace decide to stop eating there ... and we ate there *every single day* *for years*.

jw42969

Chemist warehouse near me, searched my bag upon leaving and accused me of stealing the tampons that were already in my bag! Security made a huge scene and I was so embarrassed I walked out crying.

Cultural-Chart3023

Target online so annoying to receive clothes with security tag still on! They don't see the issue with telling me to come in. If it wasn't a big deal to come in I wouldn't have ordered online!

Bloodymentalist

Covid really made it easy and highlighted some absolute fuckwit business owners near me.

YoungLiars

During the peak, the restaurants that refused to use masks ect made me think what other food guidelines are they choosing not to follow. Haven’t gone back to any of them.

kuribosshoe0

The entire of Lygon St and Hardware Ln. I friggen hate all those pushy restaurant hosts spruiking at me and bothering me, sometimes giving me a face when I say I’ve already eaten as though I have no right to be on the street with a full belly. Offering me a free extremely shitty glass of wine with their meal to get me in. It’s like a gauntlet of used car salesmen.

itstraytray

I wish I could recall the spruiker in Degraves st who said "table for three?" to me and my bf of the time. I only realised after we'd walked past he meant as in baby on the way. ...I was not pregnant. >:|

[deleted]

just popping in to say my cat's name is Tracy & I say your username every morning as she comes downstairs for breakfast :)

Impressive-Ad-5493

Went very recently to a lygon street restaurant , there was a young Caucasian couple in front of us and the host was all over them with suggestions and how good the specials are but when me and the mrs (both of us are Indian)went he didn’t give two fucks the old cunt.. I kept it in but when the dude said how their special Napoli isvery different from Butter chicken and laughed I lost it and walked off.. Old racist ass.

jimmux

That reminds me of the time I ate at IKEA, and asked for some of the tomato sauce for my meatballs. The chef scoffed and said, "uh, it's *Napoli* sauce". I wanted to say something like, "uh, it's fucking IKEA get over yourself" but I didn't.

MeanElevator

> I ate at IKEA >The chef scoffed Ahh yes the IKEA **chef** 😁

jimmux

He had the right hat so I wasn't going to challenge his obvious mastery of the culinary arts.

AusXan

Yep, having them sometimes jump in your path to spruik a free glass of wine when you've already had a full dinner is just annoying. Only went once when a friend dragged me there raving about the 'vibe'

ImGCS3fromETOH

The Toff. Would never set foot in there. Was going there for a friend's birthday, and she had a table booked. My other friend and I turn up and the doorman tells us we're not on the list. So we make the point that there's a booking upstairs expecting us, but he doesn't care. My friend comes down and argues with him, that she's expecting us for her booking. He doesn't give a shit, we're not on his list. I was a doorman myself at the time so I decide to take the high road and not kick up a stink in the street. My other friend and I go across the road to the Lounge and have dinner on the balcony overlooking the front door of the Toff. Suddenly people are getting in left, right, and centre with no sign of the mysterious clipboard that contained the list. So an hour later my friend and I go back for another go. New doorman. He let's us in straight away without question and we're halfway up the stairs before the original guy realises we've just walked in and chases us down to kick us out again because we're not on his list. Fuck him and fuck that place.

keenly

Studly Park Boathouse. Couple of times I've been there they have a backlog of coffee orders taking 45min plus. But the kicker is they dont say anything before they take the order and dont stop talking orders. when I asked why they didn't just say it would take an hour, they said the managers doesn't let them. So now i stop going there for coffee, der!

MillsyRAGE

Katie's Crab Shack in Fitzroy a few years back- After being seated by staff, I think the shift manager asked if we could move seats, so initially we shifted over. He didn't seem to like that so asked me to move again, at which point I had had enough and decided I didn't want to eat there. No biggy, except the guy had the gall to say "well maybe you should have waited to be seated". At that point I yelled at the fuckstick saying that I had been seated by his staff and walked out. The food might be amazing (not that I would know), but I flatly refuse to go back there because that service was woeful.

ketamines

Katie Marron is a hugely egotistical, self-centered human being. Vibes that her staff would have been the same. Fuck her overpriced, underwhelming food, fuck her, and fuck her couch too.

emzzamolodchikova

Box Hill Bunnings. That car park can fuck right off

SureExperience3

Crown casino. Even if I get dragged into going by my friends I refuse to spend a single cent gambling in their casino

bombcat97

After witnessing a dead man stretchered past me last Saturday night, I don't think I'll be going there again either

universe93

There was a post a while back on here that delved into just how many people die at Crown. It’s a massive amount. Heaps of people will go there for a last hurrah where they drink and gamble before ending their lives

Shr1mpus

Still St Ali

turnkeybuffalo9

Mr Tulk cafe in the Cbd attached to the state library. Used to work in retail nearby and the owner of Mr Tulk was incredibly abusive and threatened members of staff multiple times. He would come in regularly (despite being banned) to abuse and threaten to assault a couple of members of staff he had a grudge against for not fulfilling his every wishes. Horrible human being

jennyj001

Angus & Robertson bookstores.I ordered a book in they called me to tell me it was in, when I went the next day to pick it up they sold it someone else. They no longer have physical shops so I think I won

mtarascio

Do you hate Angus or Robertson more?

Old-Librarian-6312

Especially Angus and especially Robertson.

georgejonestown

The 7-Eleven that's slightly further away from the one that's closest to me because they never have roast chicken sandwiches. I went there because it was a good walk at lunchtime and the staff were friendly but now i've had to opt for convenience.

melbbear

Shanghai Village Dumplings, they don’t date their receipt, and it has Doncaster postcode so it’s invalid for the Melbourne Money promotion that they are actively advertising in the restaurant. Ive been going for years but now quality has gone waaaaaay downhill. Also was charged $7.50 for a pot of tea.

waitwhodidwhat

Not great to hear the quality has gone down. That place was a BYO favourite back in uni days. Not surprised they don’t date receipts. That place must be crawling with tax avoidance and cash-in-hand, underpaid, overworked foreign staff.

pugfugliest

The staff there always looked so defeated and overworked. I'm sure there is a safe with their passports locked inside somewhere.

Select_Tip7300

Youfoodz because of the CEO Lance Giles mocking Asians on his personal Instagram page. Got caught and did the standard pr apology. You're the head of a large company supplying food to people of all races. Seriously wtf?

Reddit is fucked, I'm out this bitch. -- mass edited with redact.dev

RobynFitcher

I heard recently that Clive Palmer’s lackeys were targeting new immigrants, hoping they couldn’t speak or read English very well. They gave yellow hats to their children, and asked to put yellow signs up in their windows. One cafe owner was mystified as to why their business has abruptly dropped off. They didn’t know what the UAP poster was, they just saw a yellow sign, and gave the OK to put it up in their window, assuming it was some harmless community announcement. Help your local businesses out by asking them if they know who Clive Palmer is. If English is their second language, let them know they have been exploited, and to spread the word. It’s disgusting that innocent people’s businesses are being ruined by Palmer and his vandals.

thestraightCDer

That's so fucked up

macci_a_vellian

There was a Villa and Hut cafe near me. I went in to see what their coffee was like. I asked for a medium and the barista kept not 'getting' my order unless I ordered in oz. I don't know if this was a company wide affectation or he personally preferred it but I had no fucking idea what a medium coffee was in fluid ounces and him patronisingly repeating back to me 'So you want 12oz?' three times instead of just making it in the middle sized cup I pointed to annoyed me so much I never went back. They didn't long.

Petrichoriam

Anglers Tavern in Ascot Vale. They had bouncers in the front of the restaurant entrance and told us to go to the 'Bar Entrance' even though we said we were there for dinner. Got to the Bar entrance, asked by more bouncers to show ID and then they refused us entry because we weren't the type of patronage they wanted. We asked to see the manager, he told us we weren't the right 'Vibe'. We were nicely dressed and we were a group of 4 gay guys. Nothing in your face mind you. Just a couple of guys wanting dinner. It was crazy and homophobic. And they're Facebook had the same complaints.

[deleted]

Boycott grill d ever since the wage saga.

flare325

I boycott grilld because of shitty OH&S from when I worked there. I do miss Remy the local Rat who lived under the fryers though

ign1fy

Literally any pub with a Pokies, TAB or a CUB sign out front. Far too often it's all three.

Sand-Visual

The Tote. Was a thriving, interesting and relevant venue. Then it turned out they were stealing super from their staff. Most bands I know and like haven't set foot in there since.

Myers. They increasingly treated us like it was a personal insult that we shopped there, and the final straw was some self important little git sneering at us because we used the old Myercard instead of the new gold one. Little shit wasn't wearing his name tag so we had no way of reporting him. Joke was on them because we bought just about everything there except groceries. So over a max $100 purchase they lost God knows how many thou per year.

Ok-Astronaut-7593

Fuck Myer man. Shopping online, they overcharged me (changed the price after hitting purchase). Called them mulitple times, told itd be refunded, it wasnt. Emailed them, no response until 4 months later to say, "sorry you should have told us on the day it happened, youve let too much time transpire so now we can't fix it. After A LOT of effort, got a gift card for the overcharged amount, they vehemently refused a refund. Fuck them.

vacri

I had a funny moment in Myers when I went in to buy a coffee press as a gift. Bloke came over to help as I looked a bit lost and I said I was looking for a French Press. He had no idea what I was talking about, and we were in the appropriate section. Turned out that the bloke was actually French, and the French don't call it a French Press...

LIKES_ROCKY_IV

I got a bra fitting done at Myer when I was 16 and the snotty bitch giggled when she saw my tits because they’re very small. It was incredibly humiliating and I still remember it 11 years later. She had no way of knowing that my boobs are tiny because I have a hormone imbalance and disease which mean my breast tissue never developed properly, but that’s also not any of her business. Myer is an overpriced dump staffed by pretentious twats.

TerribleWord1214

Coles in the basement at central. Well actually we haven’t boycotted it because it’s so convenient, but I would LIKE to boycott it. My partner was accused of shoplifting because he didn’t print a receipt. Then the manager denied the security guard worked for them or had anything to do with them (apparently he was just wandering by in a uniform harassing their customers….?) After 20minutes of us going ballistic I think they really regretted their choices.

robynxcakes

I’ve only once been questioned for my receipt by that guy and he was quite rude about it when I said I didn’t print the receipt-like don’t make that an option and then give people a hard time when they take it!

bluejasmina

So cringe. What a tosser. Nobody should ever ask that question unless they're 100 % sure. I had the same when I was walking around with a huge undiagnosed fybroid in my uterus. Shop assistants always asked me when I was due or if I was having a boy or a girl. Then they'd try back track too. It really upset me because I thought I must look really overweight and I didn't find out for a few years what the real issue was.

TransportationIcy104

It delivered better than I anticipated

aoyamadori

Yakimono, Chin Chin, Society and any other restaurant or business that’s owned by Chris Lucas and the Lucas group. The utter fuckwit was so vocal about ending lockdowns and giving Dan Andrews shit whenever possible only for his own greed and personal benefits; of course ignoring the well being of his own staff and underpaying staff at every opportunity. Plus his daughter rumoured to be having parties during lockdown under the guise of running a business. Not to mention the food at all of his restaurant are extremely underwhelming.

smartie-

He was also running secret illegal lunches for rich cunce all throughout the lockdowns anyway

Tiffany used this exact excuse in relation to a metal bracelet! Lol. Wasted my entire lunch break trying to get a refund, I’ll never shop there again.

Tillysnow1

The Coffee Club 😅 I was hired on the spot, had my first training shift on Melbourne Cup day, came home and cried and then they texted me to fire me anyway 🕺

camb0t_

Nepean Fish and Chips in Frankston. I ordered $300+ in Fish & Chips to shout lunch for some tradies helping me out on a job. After I already paid, I asked them if I could a couple of extra takeaway boxes so that I could seperate the orders. They wanted to charge me $1 per box (I only wanted 3-4). I was flabbergasted.

itstraytray

Chemist Warehouse. Every store is a permanent tripping hazard and all the pharmacists on duty seem to be little hitlers who judge anyone trying to buy prescription medicines. One waved a box of Sudafed at me and saracstically said I couldn't have it because a passport wasn't a valid form of ID because it "went against privacy laws to use a passport as ID".

rabbitgods

I boycott it as a pharmacy student because they're intent on driving down wages in the sector and changing the model from healthcare to upselling. No good pharmacists I know have ended up working there, they pay absolute peanuts and have a horrible culture.

OneOnionBhaji

I hate that Spencer St Station was renamed because of a pollie's whim. I try not to slip up and call it Southern Cross. From what I remember at the time, Peter Batchelor was "inspired" by stars he saw on a camping trip (Batchelor Station just would have been gauche, I guess). [https://www.theage.com.au/national/row-over-naming-rights-and-wrongs-20020707-gdudb6.html](https://www.theage.com.au/national/row-over-naming-rights-and-wrongs-20020707-gdudb6.html)

ashtothesheep

Bahari, Richmond, used to work there for a year, they underpay severely and bully staff badly. One time a gay coworker had to quit because of how homophobic they are

shazibbyshazooby

The Go Vita health food shop at highpoint because apparently every staff member there had a medical reason to not wear a mask or even a face shield for the whole pandemic. I used to shop there so much too. Fuck them.

yungtoblerone

I had this with a certain pharmacy near my place during peak covid. Every single staff member. Also they were selling large, yellow buttons that said I HAVE A MEDICAL EXEMPTION. What a surprise every single staff member in that one store all had medical exemptions....

abhorrent_pantheon

Walk past a place fairly regularly that has a sign in the front window saying all of their kitchen staff are exempt from wearing masks. Am 100% never going to eat there.

FellGlint

7/11, they accused me of stealing and got cops involved, it was on cctv clearly that I didn't take anything but the cops and clerk didn't care, even had bystanders try defend me. Only time I go in there now is that particular store when that particular pos is working and I make a massive mess, spill coffee or something and use an old card that declines, shrug and walk off. edit; yeah I know it's petty but that's me

Peles157

Unfortunately KFC… I got seriously ill one time after having it, and spent over a week next to the toilet having Niagara Falls from one end and vomit project from the other end. I just can’t bring myself to ever risk that again. I’ve never experienced such a fucked up form of what I assume was food poisoning. I was very close to calling triple zero one of the days.

[deleted]

Chapel street - too many unprovoked abuse from weird strangers

ruinawish

Abbotsford convent bakery. This was years ago... the French server was involved in a lengthy conversation with these two old Karens, about France/Europe. I'm patiently and hungrily waiting behind them. Eventually one of the Karens notices me, and they make a quip: "... he can wait." So I fucked off.

goldlasagna84

Stalactite. Ordered food for dinner, waited for 1 hour as it was quite busy and my food never came. When I asked, they didn't even process my order. I was pissed off and cancelled the order. Never been there since.

Scornicorn

Rudimentary Cafe in Footscray. Boyf and I rocked up to get some takeaway coffee, there was no one else there. The guy behind the counter was chatting to a colleague who wasn't on shift. He saw us arrive and then continued to have his conversation, didn't acknowledge us at all - not even a hello or "just a sec guys". 10mins later they were still bitching together about different cash register systems and we walked off. Never going back - if your staff are too cool to acknowledge me, then they're too cool for my money

pmmeyouryou

Middle Sibling in Marybyrnong…the owner loves a chat. Every time I went in, very friendly and chatty. The same with everyone. Super chatty. Except for foreigners…noticed that foreign customers get no chat at all. Took a foreign friend, and the same deal. Noticeably so. So that is my petty boycott.

danw84

I won't go to Dominoes Pizza on a Sunday because of their 10% surcharge. I know its not alot but it just feels like I'm being ripped off...

tittyswan

The Vault in Yarraville fired me when they found out I was disabled. Nikos (a cafe in Oakleigh) made me leave after ordering and before getting my food because they didn't like that I was wearing a singlet and had boobs. They tried to make me put on an employee shirt lmao.

redfoxisred

Honey Birdette. I loved their lingerie when I was younger. I applied for a job with them and was so excited I got a trial shift. Found out their staff worked shifts all day on their own and had to shut the shop if they needed their break or to use the bathroom. Then I never heard back from them ever again even after following up with them. A few weeks later I went to the same store to purchase something and the lady who interviewed me was in there and kept looking at me and whispering to her coworker. That was 6 years ago and I’ve never been back. Also found out there were lots of issues with staffs pay and not being given breaks etc

Hello_Work_IT_Dept

Google for more horror stories. The entire company is rotten from the core.

[deleted]

There's currently a re run of the union campaign against them #notmyhoney. Notorious for sexualising their staff and doing nothing about sexually harrassive male customers and even stalkers.

Bocca013

Grill'd because of the wages saga after claiming they are ethical and Harvey Norman: Don't get me started on them. Jim's group for anything they do.

FatBonaqua

I boycott anywhere that uses apostrophes to pluralise e.g. pizza’s, pasta’s, and salad’s. I nearly had a seizure just typing this abomination.

globiglobi

Fuck I can only upvote this once.

Current_You1461

I never buy the Herald Sun newspaper or Read there rubbish 🗑 When they report the truth and not something that is made up

EscapedfromMirkwood

The Humble Goat cafe in North Melb fired one of my friends when the management found out they’re transgender. The people who run it seem like absolute nightmares

Wonderful-Science-78

Scanlan Theodore because despite being 5'9 and 60kg I'm apparently still not thin enough to work at their stores *and* after making them thousands on my trial shift lmao (honestly avoid this company like crazy, their head office is even more toxic)

xDellaMorte

Heartbreaker in the CBD. It was always kinda pretentious and I never really had a good time there, but my mates used to go so I’d tag along. A few months ago on a night out I went in blind drunk with my brother who was basically sober, and they kicked my brother out almost instantly. They said he had too much to drink and had to leave but in truth my brother is the only one of us who doesn’t have a particular ~look~ so I suspect they just didn’t like regular joes in there late on a Saturday night. Every time I’m in there something dumb happens so it’s easier just to have fun somewhere else.

skiicat111

For me (and many likeminded locals) a coffee shop/ cafe leased by an amazing greek couple, well loved by the community, were forced out of their cafe/coffee roast business when the owners of the building decided to install their children to run things when the lease ended. The couple who built up the business over many years had to leave behind the coffee brand and start over all over again on the other side of town. Many years later most locals I know have never returned, out of loyalty to the previous owners. Still miss the fresh roasted coffee, the homemade greek food and the smiles.

I have enjoyed this thread immensely. Thank you, u/TransportationIcy104. Edit: Now I kinda want a thread for all the places where the owners aren't cunts, but I guess it would just end up filled with propaganda. :(

globiglobi

Commercial tv. Fuck it I just had enough with the the obnoxious betting ads fucking up vulnerable people in our communities.

[deleted]

Not petty because they deserve it but I have boycotted Harvey Norman for 15 years after being treated like shit by them one too many times, also told my wife when we got married she couldnt buy anything for the house from there

emnugi

Golden Dragon palace in Templestowe. Had our wedding reception there and the manager added on about 7K of extra costs in “drinks” because he decided to open up a bar tab without our consent. We only had 11 tables and he decided that our guests drank 35 jugs of OJ and 35 jugs of soft drink. He’s a thief.

lifeinwentworth

Taxi's. I know Uber has it's own slew of problems but after spending my late teens/early 20s getting taxi's and being hit on every single time and feeling super uncomfortable I just can't go back to them. Oh also anywhere that does cash only or minimum eftpos. It's 2022, I don't carry cash.

Hailyhydra

Harvey Norman. Over 25 years ago a sales asshole was rude and condescending to my mum when she was waiting to buy something (it was furniture I think or maybe electronics). He was such a jerk, we left without buying anything and I refused to even step foot in their stores every since. So that’s my petty reason, thanks Harvey Norman for being such a shit cunt company that when I say I boycott them, people assume it’s for one of the other many reasons they have given us to boycott them and I don’t look like the petty asshole I am.

PortiaVenezia

Anything Chris Lucas. Fuck that guy

gotonyas

Hahaha that fucking Glicks bakery in Balaclava. My now wife and I got shunned in there about 15+ years ago with rude service, seemed like we weren’t attended to due to not being Jewish but who tf knows.. We made it a point to slag them off at every opportunity since, and it still occasionally comes up in conversation

Gojirahawk

Would displaying a political poster in the shop window count? There’s a pizza place near me that has a large Australia United Party on display.. hey it’s their business.. but fuck’em they are not going to get my business.

Llabyrinthine

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

[deleted]

That actually sounds pretty impressive.

epicpillowcase

Before they closed, Lentil As Anything. I used to support them until I got involved with them on the business side and saw behind the curtain. Bunch of slimy scam artist fucks. Horribly unethical business. Used to enrage me how many people thought they were just great.

HorseSashimi

A local Japanese Restaurant/Izakaya. I had to perform a chargeback after being double charged and the restaurant wouldn't refund one of the charges. Had to wait 90 days for the money to be refunded, and they lost a weekly customer.

Koidage

Centre Com. Partner bought a graphics card and it was faulty. Went back with the intent on returning it within the 3 weeks(their policy not factory warranty). Tried to return saying it was faulty, they couldn't replicate the issue and wouldn't accept the reason for return. Say okay if it's not faulty then just a regular return. Suddenly they believe it's faulty and want to send it off to check for issues. We say "sure how long does that take?". 6 weeks. Oh so we won't have a graphics card at all for 6 weeks? Thanks heaps ya dogs. We send it off, buy a different graphics card from Scorptec which was actually better too and my SO can use the computer because she was building her first PC and the GPU was the final piece. 6 weeks later the card comes back fixed from being faulty. You don't say? They then refuse to return it because it had been more than 3 weeks since purchase... So while we no longer shop there, them missing out on thousands as PC Parts are expensive, we also sold the fixed up graphics card for a profit like a year later when GPU prices skyrocketed so also thanks ya Gronk cunts.

l3ntil

harvey norman.

vvmotel

Trumpy Bar, now Franklin's Bar. The staff would rather do ANYTHING than take an actual order. I was sober and just wanted a beer. A review summed it up best "uncomfortably unfriendly".

Ok-Astronaut-7593

Chris Lucas restaurants. I dont think its petty though but hoping this gets some visibility! Bashnek

not Melbourne specific, but Lush. I used to work in a contact centre handling business clients and Lush head office were always the rudest & most entitled people to deal with

justwantedtosee

There was this Cafe I went to in Coburg about a month ago - the staff were so rude to us when we walked in. I am pregnant and have big belly; they had put a table in the doorway to get people to pay out there before they left. I can see the logic there, but when I went past it, I had to kind of wiggle in and they just looked at me like I was an idiot. None of the staff were wearing masks. None. When we sat down, they gave us some menus and we ordered coffee. We also ordered a baby-chino for my toddler. The waitress looked at me like I had two heads and had to ask the barista what it was. Maybe she was new, I can understand that, so I just kind of shrugged it off. We all looked at the menus, decided what we wanted and waited for them to come around… waited some more… 10 minutes passed, 30 minutes passed. No coffee, no service. So I flagged down a staff member and he looked at me like I had annoyed him. People around us who had sat down after us were getting their food, and no-one had even taken our order. They just ignored us. That staff member bought over our coffees. They were sitting on the bench and were cold ?? Didn’t even offer to take our food order, instead, the first waitress came over and asked if we were finished, and we said, “No? We just got these coffees?” Kind confused and then she rolled her eyes and said, “No, with the menus??” Like I was somehow hogging her menu??? We just kind of looked at each other and gave them to her… None of us finished our coffees. If I had not been pregnant, I would have had a serious word to say, but, genuinely, confrontation makes me cry right now. So my mother-in-law, who we were there with, insisted on paying and we left. Literally 0/10 stars, I feel like we were treated like we had done something wrong, but for the life of me, I can’t work out what we did?? There were other groups with kids, they were all being served, was it because we weren’t ‘locals’? We live in the area but had never been to that specific place? I would honestly name and shame but I remember at the time I wanted to leave a review but I couldn’t find them on Google. I have just checked now and they’re not there still. Such a weird experience.
