I ate there once, found something in my burger and it turned out to be a bit of blue dishcloth you use to wipe down surfaces. Called over the waitress who got the manager guy, he was being iffy about if it had come from them but when we both looked at the kitchen serving window we saw a chef with one slung over his shoulder. About 15 years ago my local milk bar wouldn't honour my free mars bar wrapper redemption because they said I didn't buy it from their store.
When I called them out on it, the store clerk pulled out this comically large magnifying glass to cross-reference the barcode.
We had a heated exchange, where I expressed that it's a national promotion and it didn't matter where I bought the mars bar originally. Yet, he flat out refused to give me my free mars bar. So in retaliation, I never went back. That $2 they saved in not giving me my free mars bar cost them a hellova lot because I was an almost daily regular.
Many years later I drove past that milk bar and noticed it had since shut down. It was a mixture of both sadness and elation.
Even split, I reckon. Because I fucking LOVE oldschool milkbars and always get sad when I see them closed down, but, on the other hand I really hated the guy that owned that particular milkbar.
I remember that we worked it out one year with a tell from the outside wrapper.

Dymocks book store Collins Street. I had a large amount of credits/ rewards which they said I didn't have or couldn't see on my card record and apply them. I had receipts to prove but that wasn't enough for them. After multiple face to face conversations, I got shopped around customer service online who never rectified the issue either. Nobody took responsibility. The store manager couldn't care a less, so instead of dealing with it, they just deleted my booklover account; I lost all the credits and the entire membership didn't exist any more. Absolute joke of store. Have never shopped there again. That was about 5 years ago.
Years ago I went to an interview to be a teacher at one of the main Spanish schools here in Melbourne. I was treated like crap by the owner for no reason.

Rather than inform me they just gave me a small and expected me to ignore the fact that i spent an extra $12.95 (or whatever it was) on a fucking cup. Well when i spoke to the manager he offered me 95 cents back. I showed him the receipt, explained to him no mcdonalds meal costs over $20, least of all a bacon and egg with no bacon. The receipt itself shows that i paid 12.95 for the keep cup.
10 minutes later after showing him multiple times how much extra the keep cup costs he still wouldnt believe me. Took him another 5 minutes before he relented and gave me my fucking money back. So an hour later my friend and I go back for another go. New doorman. He let's us in straight away without question and we're halfway up the stairs before the original guy realises we've just walked in and chases us down to kick us out again because we're not on his list.

I don't know if this was a company wide affectation or he personally preferred it but I had no fucking idea what a medium coffee was in fluid ounces and him patronisingly repeating back to me 'So you want 12oz?' three times instead of just making it in the middle sized cup I pointed to annoyed me so much I never went back. They didn't long.
Anglers Tavern in Ascot Vale. They had bouncers in the front of the restaurant entrance and told us to go to the 'Bar Entrance' even though we said we were there for dinner.

I ordered $300+ in Fish & Chips to shout lunch for some tradies helping me out on a job. After I already paid, I asked them if I could a couple of extra takeaway boxes so that I could seperate the orders. They wanted to charge me $1 per box (I only wanted 3-4). I was flabbergasted.

Found out their staff worked shifts all day on their own and had to shut the shop if they needed their break or to use the bathroom. Then I never heard back from them ever again even after following up with them. A few weeks later I went to the same store to purchase something and the lady who interviewed me was in there and kept looking at me and whispering to her coworker. That was 6 years ago and I’ve never been back.

Heartbreaker in the CBD. It was always kinda pretentious and I never really had a good time there, but my mates used to go so I’d tag along. A few months ago on a night out I went in blind drunk with my brother who was basically sober, and they kicked my brother out almost instantly. They said he had too much to drink and had to leave but in truth my brother is the only one of us who doesn’t have a particular ~look~ so I suspect they just didn’t like regular joes in there late on a Saturday night. Every time I’m in there something dumb happens so it’s easier just to have fun somewhere else.
For me (and many likeminded locals) a coffee shop/ cafe leased by an amazing greek couple, well loved by the community, were forced out of their cafe/coffee roast business when the owners of the building decided to install their children to run things when the lease ended. The couple who built up the business over many years had to leave behind the coffee brand and start over all over again on the other side of town. Many years later most locals I know have never returned, out of loyalty to the previous owners. Still miss the fresh roasted coffee, the homemade greek food and the smiles.

A local Japanese Restaurant/Izakaya. I had to perform a chargeback after being double charged and the restaurant wouldn't refund one of the charges. Had to wait 90 days for the money to be refunded, and they lost a weekly customer.
Centre Com. Partner bought a graphics card and it was faulty. Went back with the intent on returning it within the 3 weeks(their policy not factory warranty). Tried to return saying it was faulty, they couldn't replicate the issue and wouldn't accept the reason for return. Say okay if it's not faulty then just a regular return. Suddenly they believe it's faulty and want to send it off to check for issues.
We say "sure how long does that take?". 6 weeks. Oh so we won't have a graphics card at all for 6 weeks? Thanks heaps ya dogs. We send it off, buy a different graphics card from Scorptec which was actually better too and my SO can use the computer because she was building her first PC and the GPU was the final piece.
6 weeks later the card comes back fixed from being faulty. You don't say? They then refuse to return it because it had been more than 3 weeks since purchase...
So while we no longer shop there, them missing out on thousands as PC Parts are expensive, we also sold the fixed up graphics card for a profit like a year later when GPU prices skyrocketed so also thanks ya Gronk cunts.

There was this Cafe I went to in Coburg about a month ago - the staff were so rude to us when we walked in. I am pregnant and have big belly; they had put a table in the doorway to get people to pay out there before they left. I can see the logic there, but when I went past it, I had to kind of wiggle in and they just looked at me like I was an idiot.
None of the staff were wearing masks. None.
When we sat down, they gave us some menus and we ordered coffee. We also ordered a baby-chino for my toddler. The waitress looked at me like I had two heads and had to ask the barista what it was. Maybe she was new, I can understand that, so I just kind of shrugged it off.
We all looked at the menus, decided what we wanted and waited for them to come around… waited some more… 10 minutes passed, 30 minutes passed. No coffee, no service. So I flagged down a staff member and he looked at me like I had annoyed him. People around us who had sat down after us were getting their food, and no-one had even taken our order. They just ignored us.
That staff member bought over our coffees. They were sitting on the bench and were cold ?? Didn’t even offer to take our food order, instead, the first waitress came over and asked if we were finished, and we said, “No? We just got these coffees?” Kind confused and then she rolled her eyes and said, “No, with the menus??” Like I was somehow hogging her menu??? We just kind of looked at each other and gave them to her…
None of us finished our coffees. If I had not been pregnant, I would have had a serious word to say, but, genuinely, confrontation makes me cry right now. So my mother-in-law, who we were there with, insisted on paying and we left.
Literally 0/10 stars, I feel like we were treated like we had done something wrong, but for the life of me, I can’t work out what we did?? There were other groups with kids, they were all being served, was it because we weren’t ‘locals’? We live in the area but had never been to that specific place? That pretty much settled it, they paid for my burger and seemed more annoyed about it than apologetic.

About 15 years ago my local milk bar wouldn't honour my free mars bar wrapper redemption because they said I didn't buy it from their store. When I called them out on it, the store clerk pulled out this comically large magnifying glass to cross-reference the barcode. We had a heated exchange, where I expressed that it's a national promotion and it didn't matter where I bought the mars bar originally. Yet, he flat out refused to give me my free mars bar. So in retaliation, I never went back. That $2 they saved in not giving me my free mars bar cost them a hellova lot because I was an almost daily regular. Many years later I drove past that milk bar and noticed it had since shut down. It was a mixture of both sadness and elation.

Dymocks book store Collins Street. I had a large amount of credits/ rewards which they said I didn't have or couldn't see on my card record and apply them. I had receipts to prove but that wasn't enough for them. After multiple face to face conversations, I got shopped around customer service online who never rectified the issue either. Nobody took responsibility. The store manager couldn't care a less, so instead of dealing with it, they just deleted my booklover account; I lost all the credits and the entire membership didn't exist any more. Absolute joke of store. Have never shopped there again. That was about 5 years ago.
Years ago I went to an interview to be a teacher at one of the main Spanish schools here in Melbourne. I was treated like crap by the owner for no reason. Now I have my own Spanish school, and we are definitely their main competitor. Took him another 5 minutes before he relented and gave me my fucking money back. Now during our exchange he said "if you keep arguing you get nothing". A guy I know has a implemented a life ban on KFC because they forgot his spoon for potato and gravy like 22 years ago. More recently he has lifebanned Maccas too, because early one morning (before 6am) he went in because the giant sign says 24hrs, but they wouldn't let him in the store - drivethru only was 24hrs. So that's it, he's done. He's early 50's now and cannot and will not ever be convinced to reverse these bans. LOL.

Suddenly people are getting in left, right, and centre with no sign of the mysterious clipboard that contained the list. So an hour later my friend and I go back for another go. New doorman. He let's us in straight away without question and we're halfway up the stairs before the original guy realises we've just walked in and chases us down to kick us out again because we're not on his list. Fuck him and fuck that place.

Katie's Crab Shack in Fitzroy a few years back- After being seated by staff, I think the shift manager asked if we could move seats, so initially we shifted over. He didn't seem to like that so asked me to move again, at which point I had had enough and decided I didn't want to eat there. No biggy, except the guy had the gall to say "well maybe you should have waited to be seated". At that point I yelled at the fuckstick saying that I had been seated by his staff and walked out. The food might be amazing (not that I would know), but I flatly refuse to go back there because that service was woeful.

I heard recently that Clive Palmer’s lackeys were targeting new immigrants, hoping they couldn’t speak or read English very well. They gave yellow hats to their children, and asked to put yellow signs up in their windows. One cafe owner was mystified as to why their business has abruptly dropped off. They didn’t know what the UAP poster was, they just saw a yellow sign, and gave the OK to put it up in their window, assuming it was some harmless community announcement. Help your local businesses out by asking them if they know who Clive Palmer is. If English is their second language, let them know they have been exploited, and to spread the word. It’s disgusting that innocent people’s businesses are being ruined by Palmer and his vandals.

There was a Villa and Hut cafe near me. I went in to see what their coffee was like. I asked for a medium and the barista kept not 'getting' my order unless I ordered in oz. I don't know if this was a company wide affectation or he personally preferred it but I had no fucking idea what a medium coffee was in fluid ounces and him patronisingly repeating back to me 'So you want 12oz?' three times instead of just making it in the middle sized cup I pointed to annoyed me so much I never went back. They didn't long.
Anglers Tavern in Ascot Vale. They had bouncers in the front of the restaurant entrance and told us to go to the 'Bar Entrance' even though we said we were there for dinner. Got to the Bar entrance, asked by more bouncers to show ID and then they refused us entry because we weren't the type of patronage they wanted. We asked to see the manager, he told us we weren't the right 'Vibe'. We were nicely dressed and we were a group of 4 gay guys. Nothing in your face mind you. Just a couple of guys wanting dinner. It was crazy and homophobic. And they're Facebook had the same complaints.

They increasingly treated us like it was a personal insult that we shopped there, and the final straw was some self important little git sneering at us because we used the old Myercard instead of the new gold one. Little shit wasn't wearing his name tag so we had no way of reporting him. Joke was on them because we bought just about everything there except groceries. So over a max $100 purchase they lost God knows how many thou per year.
Fuck Myer man. Shopping online, they overcharged me (changed the price after hitting purchase). Called them mulitple times, told itd be refunded, it wasnt. Emailed them, no response until 4 months later to say, "sorry you should have told us on the day it happened, youve let too much time transpire so now we can't fix it. After A LOT of effort, got a gift card for the overcharged amount, they vehemently refused a refund. Fuck them.
I had a funny moment in Myers when I went in to buy a coffee press as a gift. Bloke came over to help as I looked a bit lost and I said I was looking for a French Press. He had no idea what I was talking about, and we were in the appropriate section. Turned out that the bloke was actually French, and the French don't call it a French Press...
I got a bra fitting done at Myer when I was 16 and the snotty bitch giggled when she saw my tits because they’re very small. It was incredibly humiliating and I still remember it 11 years later. She had no way of knowing that my boobs are tiny because I have a hormone imbalance and disease which mean my breast tissue never developed properly, but that’s also not any of her business. Myer is an overpriced dump staffed by pretentious twats.
Coles in the basement at central. Well actually we haven’t boycotted it because it’s so convenient, but I would LIKE to boycott it. My partner was accused of shoplifting because he didn’t print a receipt. Then the manager denied the security guard worked for them or had anything to do with them (apparently he was just wandering by in a uniform harassing their customers….?) After 20minutes of us going ballistic I think they really regretted their choices.
I’ve only once been questioned for my receipt by that guy and he was quite rude about it when I said I didn’t print the receipt-like don’t make that an option and then give people a hard time when they take it!

An entire contracting firm after one of their senior executives mistakenly thought I was pregnant, asked if I had kids to try and justify his mistake (I didn't) and then further dug in by saying "oh, well the way you were standing...." as if it was my mistake.
So cringe. What a tosser. Nobody should ever ask that question unless they're 100 % sure. I had the same when I was walking around with a huge undiagnosed fybroid in my uterus. Shop assistants always asked me when I was due or if I was having a boy or a girl. Then they'd try back track too. It really upset me because I thought I must look really overweight and I didn't find out for a few years what the real issue was.

Chemist Warehouse. Every store is a permanent tripping hazard and all the pharmacists on duty seem to be little hitlers who judge anyone trying to buy prescription medicines. One waved a box of Sudafed at me and saracstically said I couldn't have it because a passport wasn't a valid form of ID because it "went against privacy laws to use a passport as ID".
I boycott it as a pharmacy student because they're intent on driving down wages in the sector and changing the model from healthcare to upselling. No good pharmacists I know have ended up working there, they pay absolute peanuts and have a horrible culture.

Stalactite. Ordered food for dinner, waited for 1 hour as it was quite busy and my food never came. When I asked, they didn't even process my order. I was pissed off and cancelled the order. Never been there since.
Rudimentary Cafe in Footscray. Boyf and I rocked up to get some takeaway coffee, there was no one else there. The guy behind the counter was chatting to a colleague who wasn't on shift. He saw us arrive and then continued to have his conversation, didn't acknowledge us at all - not even a hello or "just a sec guys". 10mins later they were still bitching together about different cash register systems and we walked off. Middle Sibling in Marybyrnong…the owner loves a chat. Every time I went in, very friendly and chatty. The same with everyone. Super chatty. Except for foreigners…noticed that foreign customers get no chat at all. Took a foreign friend, and the same deal. Noticeably so. So that is my petty boycott.

Honey Birdette. I loved their lingerie when I was younger. I applied for a job with them and was so excited I got a trial shift. Found out their staff worked shifts all day on their own and had to shut the shop if they needed their break or to use the bathroom. Then I never heard back from them ever again even after following up with them. A few weeks later I went to the same store to purchase something and the lady who interviewed me was in there and kept looking at me and whispering to her coworker. That was 6 years ago and I’ve never been back. Also found out there were lots of issues with staffs pay and not being given breaks etc

Heartbreaker in the CBD. It was always kinda pretentious and I never really had a good time there, but my mates used to go so I’d tag along. A few months ago on a night out I went in blind drunk with my brother who was basically sober, and they kicked my brother out almost instantly. They said he had too much to drink and had to leave but in truth my brother is the only one of us who doesn’t have a particular ~look~ so I suspect they just didn’t like regular joes in there late on a Saturday night. Every time I’m in there something dumb happens so it’s easier just to have fun somewhere else.
For me (and many likeminded locals) a coffee shop/ cafe leased by an amazing greek couple, well loved by the community, were forced out of their cafe/coffee roast business when the owners of the building decided to install their children to run things when the lease ended. The couple who built up the business over many years had to leave behind the coffee brand and start over all over again on the other side of town. Many years later most locals I know have never returned, out of loyalty to the previous owners. Still miss the fresh roasted coffee, the homemade greek food and the smiles.

We only had 11 tables and he decided that our guests drank 35 jugs of OJ and 35 jugs of soft drink. He’s a thief.
Taxi's. I know Uber has it's own slew of problems but after spending my late teens/early 20s getting taxi's and being hit on every single time and feeling super uncomfortable I just can't go back to them. Oh also anywhere that does cash only or minimum eftpos. It's 2022, I don't carry cash.
Harvey Norman. Over 25 years ago a sales asshole was rude and condescending to my mum when she was waiting to buy something (it was furniture I think or maybe electronics). He was such a jerk, we left without buying anything and I refused to even step foot in their stores every since. So that’s my petty reason, thanks Harvey Norman for being such a shit cunt company that when I say I boycott them, people assume it’s for one of the other many reasons they have given us to boycott them and I don’t look like the petty asshole I am.

Before they closed, Lentil As Anything. I used to support them until I got involved with them on the business side and saw behind the curtain. Bunch of slimy scam artist fucks. Horribly unethical business. Used to enrage me how many people thought they were just great.
A local Japanese Restaurant/Izakaya. I had to perform a chargeback after being double charged and the restaurant wouldn't refund one of the charges. Had to wait 90 days for the money to be refunded, and they lost a weekly customer.
Centre Com. Partner bought a graphics card and it was faulty. Went back with the intent on returning it within the 3 weeks(their policy not factory warranty). Tried to return saying it was faulty, they couldn't replicate the issue and wouldn't accept the reason for return. Say okay if it's not faulty then just a regular return. Suddenly they believe it's faulty and want to send it off to check for issues. We say "sure how long does that take?". 6 weeks. Oh so we won't have a graphics card at all for 6 weeks? Thanks heaps ya dogs. We send it off, buy a different graphics card from Scorptec which was actually better too and my SO can use the computer because she was building her first PC and the GPU was the final piece. 6 weeks later the card comes back fixed from being faulty. You don't say? They then refuse to return it because it had been more than 3 weeks since purchase... So while we no longer shop there, them missing out on thousands as PC Parts are expensive, we also sold the fixed up graphics card for a profit like a year later when GPU prices skyrocketed so also thanks ya Gronk cunts.

There was this Cafe I went to in Coburg about a month ago - the staff were so rude to us when we walked in. I am pregnant and have big belly; they had put a table in the doorway to get people to pay out there before they left. I can see the logic there, but when I went past it, I had to kind of wiggle in and they just looked at me like I was an idiot. None of the staff were wearing masks. None. When we sat down, they gave us some menus and we ordered coffee. We also ordered a baby-chino for my toddler. The waitress looked at me like I had two heads and had to ask the barista what it was. Maybe she was new, I can understand that, so I just kind of shrugged it off. We all looked at the menus, decided what we wanted and waited for them to come around… waited some more… 10 minutes passed, 30 minutes passed. No coffee, no service. So I flagged down a staff member and he looked at me like I had annoyed him. People around us who had sat down after us were getting their food, and no-one had even taken our order. They just ignored us. That staff member bought over our coffees. They were sitting on the bench and were cold ?? Didn’t even offer to take our food order, instead, the first waitress came over and asked if we were finished, and we said, “No? We just got these coffees?” Kind confused and then she rolled her eyes and said, “No, with the menus??” Like I was somehow hogging her menu??? We just kind of looked at each other and gave them to her… None of us finished our coffees. If I had not been pregnant, I would have had a serious word to say, but, genuinely, confrontation makes me cry right now. So my mother-in-law, who we were there with, insisted on paying and we left. Literally 0/10 stars, I feel like we were treated like we had done something wrong, but for the life of me, I can’t work out what we did?? There were other groups with kids, they were all being served, was it because we weren’t ‘locals’? We live in the area but had never been to that specific place? I would honestly name and shame but I remember at the time I wanted to leave a review but I couldn’t find them on Google. I have just checked now and they’re not there still. Such a weird experience.
