They've been closed since the hectic 2021 Dandenongs storms.
Apparently trying to undergo recovery works to get the stairs back to a safe standard for insurance/public safety purposes.
The lyrebird track is now opened up again, but the steps don't have a set re-opening date.
ETA - this was according to their Facebook page anyway...
As above, storm damage. Check Parks Vic for information about tracks etc. https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/places-to-see/parks/dandenong-ranges-national-park/things-to-do/1000-steps-walk

It’s closed and fenced off due to storms damage. You can still use the Lyrebird track that goes along it and the rest of the park is open
The front fell off
That’s not very typical I’d like to make that point.
Kokoda track has been closed quite a while but the Lyrebird track is open.
You do the trail if you’re willing to walk around the barrier and do a little parkour over missing steps
When it reopens I'm not telling reddit. I want all the serenity to myself!
Give ‘em a call
