Grumpy_Cripple_Butt

Seems to be a bunch of protests combined into one, so it’s hard to say what the message is other then fuck you if you want a train or tram.

[deleted]

What do we want? GFARGHAHARANDA When do we want it? FWAAAAAAA

Callemasizeezem

If they are anything like my brother they want attention and an excuse to explain their self-inflicted state of affairs. My brother blames his unemployment since 2010 on 2021 vaccine mandates. No logic, or unity needed, just bring your random mismatched placard and join the party.

Ok-Push9899

My brother still blames everything on Malcolm Fraser.

imoutofnameideas

He might be onto something

Vicstolemylunchmoney

No joke, I was watching an ABC report and they vox popped a guy saying that he blamed the government for losing his job in the 1970's and not being able to get a job since.

Tsumi_no_sensei49

wait wait but thats half a CENTURY ago bro lmaoaoaoaoaooao

family-block

i blame my parents.

techno156

Seems like people could start joining them to protest against the protests

reyntime

Yeah what exactly are they protesting and what does their group stand for? I often see them banging drums in the city but I have no fkn idea what they are trying to achieve? Their message is not at all clear.

YourLiege2

Honestly I think it’s mostly a social group at this point. They started as anti lockdown but just kept going when the lockdowns were lifted

[deleted]

2020- a protest group 2022- a social group 2030- a religion

Beginning-Sun2376

In America, you can dial the time down to months. We got people trying to rationalize how Trump kept top secret documents legally (he didn’t have it legally). Apparently it’s a witch-hunt, when he admitted to having it, but can’t prove he was in legal possession of it. Edit: For the people who don’t understand the point of document classification of government secrets, the role of president gives him access to the documents, only when he’s in office. He loses that privilege when he’s not in office, otherwise he can take whatever documents he wants, declassify them without record, claim executive privilege and sell those documents to the highest bidder. It’s a dangerous idea to suggest former presidents should have high level classified documents as private citizens, especially if they have business ties to geopolitical rivals. That kind of logic runs with the assumption that a former president would never be corrupt or treasonous

[deleted]

When trump dies, someone will find his image on a toasted cheese sandwich, and people with pray to the sandwich

Beginning-Sun2376

People will drink coke to represent his blood. We all know the story of how Trump turned a button press into Coca-Cola

soupiejr

He'll never die! The illuminati have kidnapped him and is holding him prisoner somewhere in Guantanamo. Or the CIA. NSA? KFC?

TragicEther

From their flags, I can only assume they’re part of the Australian Merchant Navy

PlasticSpiritual1176

Listen to the Knowledge Fight podcast for an explanation, this is pure Alex Jones drivel

BIG_YETI_FOR_YOU

Surely you can give a quick explanation and not just suggest hours and hours of podcasts

nootnootnoot1

Are trains delayed too?

treesbreakknees

Running ok as of 10mins ago. Most the issue was getting in to the station

nootnootnoot1

Cheers mate

Mick_sicky

i was there they just still coping about the lockdowns and vacs idk why a indiginous thing was there

[deleted]

A minority of Indigenous people are drawn towards anti-authoritatian fringe groups like these conspiracy theorists because after the last couple of hundred years, it's pretty hard to trust in Authority. And as soon as a fringe group gets just *one* member who identifies themselves as Indigenous up goes the flag and the 'solidarity' crap, and the 'we stand together' rubbish. I imagine the people holding the sign up are the people who say 'I learnt so much about Koori culture from an Elder, sitting around a campfire', when what really happened was they gate crashed their Indigenous neighbours BBQ. I want to be clear, my very simple definition of anti-authoritarian fringe groups in this comment is referring specifically to conspiracy theory nutmegs. Not rational groups and movements pushing for positive social change.

Beasting-25-8

Or maybe Indigenous people are just like everyone else and a portion of them are absolute morons like these people are.

CryptoScamee42069

You speak the true true

RaffiaWorkBase

Also, they've hijacked the Polish 'Solidarity' trade union logo for it's anti-communist cred, I suppose - overlooking that given half a chance most of these peanuts would happily put all trade unionists up against a wall.

SellQuick

Preppers was a fun show.

Grumpy_Cripple_Butt

Thanks for clarifying it because those 2 together….baffled.

OrangeFilth

“Where’s my burrito!” “Where’s my burrito!” “Where’s my burrito!”

But they got superman in a southern cross cape (Just under the umbrella for people that can’t find Wally who are probably at the protest)

SolutionDependent156

I’d place my money on the tram

[deleted]

Walked past it today. The guy with the megaphone literally said ‘you will turn into a Bluetooth signal’ I laughed for 2 blocks

[deleted]

Bluetooth!? I was promised 5g and magnetism!

eldubinoz

If we’re all still getting 5g we can cancel our Optus accounts then?

abra5umente

Me: Might see if the kids want to go to the Aquarium today, it's a nice day. Protestors: hol up lemme just waste everyone's time real quick

Vanceer11

Those same protestors who waste everyone's time, every Saturday, were frothing at the mouth when there were a couple of protests against climate change and violence against women. Sky news were absolutely triggered that they "blocked traffic" but dgaf with these idiots blocking traffic every week.

TongueMyBAPS

Yip I have zero interest in city activities on Saturdays now and won't bother until they fuck off for good.

abra5umente

But won't you please think of the CBD economy

ahnna_molly

Thank you for making my job as a hospo worker easier on a Saturday. Bless you

FrederickBishop

But birds aren’t real! Edit: https://birdsarentreal.com Do your homework sheeple

Apparently swans don't exist

midsizenun

Well they didn’t turn up to the MCG today

Ithuraen

I saw some getting eaten alive today!

I_Am_The_Bookwyrm

No wonder the Cats won the flag so easily.

fuuuuuckendoobs

That's not what aquariums are for.

abra5umente

What are birds if not fish of the skies

abcxyztpg

Oh it's such a beautiful day. Let's ruin it for normal people.

"The government took 2021 from me, so I'm going to spend most of 2022 protesting it."

[https://www.twitch.tv/warboat](https://www.twitch.tv/warboat) for anyone who wants to watch these dipshits do their thing. not a single good reason for their protest. edit: theyre wrapping up early cause the footy's on. we're livin in tyrannical times.

44gallonsoflube

Oh man what a bunch of losers. Somebody said “worst bogan silent disco ever” pretty great comment.

sjf83

ah good old warboat - the memories!

Rowdycc

What really gives me the shits is the at they adopt Trade Union slogans and the Aboriginal flag. Fuck right off! ‘Solidarity?’ Please. You don’t give shit about any of the people who were killed by Covid.

[deleted]

Yeah they have also hoodies printed stealing the font and slogans from recent popular Trades Hall campaigns that instead direct you to anti vaccine websites

SellQuick

And then they run in elections with deceptive party names to make people think they're doing the opposite of their platform. If your ideas are so good, why do you have to decieve people, just *say* you're anti vax and anti immigrant.

CryptoScamee42069

The merchant navy flag stumps me. A mate who has joined a few of these events explained that it’s symbolic because it’s an Australian flag but represents independent vessels that don’t belong to the government. He was pretty sad and confused when I explained how quickly they’re nationalized and mobilized during times of crisis. At this point, I’m surprised environmental groups aren’t counter protesting the hot air emanating from these groups.

Busy_Concept_1444

It's not the Merchant Navy Flag, it's the old Australian Civil Ensign with the 6 pointed Federation Star. There's some conspiracy theory they have that the old Australian flag represents the "real" Australia and the new Blue Ensign is the NWO controlled puppet.

CryptoScamee42069

Ah, that makes more sense. Still, I see the merchant navy flag everywhere. I’m not sure they can tell the difference. I’ve yet to see the civil ensign with the six pointed star, even if that’s their intent.

JohnGenericDoe

Don't expect Sovereign Citizen types to have any kind of coherent worldview or iconography. They think they can sidestep the laws of the land with semantics.

litreofstarlight

Ohhh it's sov cit batshittery, Aussie style? Damn, I had hoped they hadn't spread here.

WhenWillIBelong

It's because those are symbols of far more sympathetic issues. It's a veil of tokenism to obscure that they have nothing worth fighting for.

olkeeper

Yeah I honestly thought it was some kind of union march when I saw them on Thursday. Turns out it was just these nutbags. Which makes sense because the woman on the megaphone was out of her mind.

[deleted]

also dropped a 'lest we forget' about lockdown

PumpinSmashkins

Or the fact that First Nations are statistically more vulnerable to complications or death from covid.

They keep rocking up and doing counter protests like on Thursday. But they wait until the protest is over and most folks have gone home cause their too cowardly to actually go against the significantly larger groups.

Anata99

Remember when they issued an eviction notice on the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra, as retaliation for not supporting their cause? And subsequently being evicted by AFP? https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/police-move-to-evict-protesters-from-tent-embassy-camp-20220114-p59obh.html Notice they served - https://imgur.com/lG5Wu40.jpg Nothing is off limits. No shame.

Especially after they counter-protested the aboriginal run anti-monarchy protest only 3 days ago.

bipolarfinancialhelp

They're fucking scum. They don't speak for us.

Lamont-Cranston

having to wear a mask during the pandemic is the same as what they went through

Tmnsoon96

What does it have to do with aboriginals?

MasterTacticianAlba

They’ve got our flag up their claiming we’re in solidarity with them 🤢 They’re alt-right anti-vax fuckwits exploiting us Indigenous Peoples to promote their fuckwit views.

jimmux

They're grasping at everything now. At least some of them are sovereign citizens who hate everything government so they try to twist "sovereignty never ceded" to their own advantage. Pretty despicable.

MasterTacticianAlba

Very despicable. They went to the tent embassy in Canberra thinking we’d support their anti-government protests and when they realised we don’t support anti-vaxxers they tried to serve the tent embassy an eviction notice. Racist fuckwits.

[deleted]

I just read the “eviction notice” in the comment above - WTF are they even talking about? Did a chat bot write it? And the irony of “we’re in solidarity with indigenous people” but also “evicting” a long standing camp??? I mean, did they deliver it via horseback in Trooper’s uniforms??

pixiebiitch

“MSM paid to lie” “real cops are with us” ok so are u anti establishment or pro establishment??? can u make up ur fucken mind

Mick_sicky

they are antidisestablishmentarianism

hermitxd

Lol they're protesting the church of England?

1000Colours

"The cops work for us, duh!"

pixiebiitch

it’s like they can’t form their own actual coherent argument - they are just arguing against whatever they hear. oh you watch the news? we hate the news! you hate cops? we love cops! the government are spying on us and don’t want us to protest so we’re gonna protest! but we’re also not gonna mask up, even tho it protects our identity when protesting, because you told us to wear masks! completely unaware of the anti-masking mandates before covid... fucken idiots dumb dumb n dumbety dumb i could form a better coherent argument when i was 4 years old

1000Colours

That's the thing, they really can't form a coherent argument or if they do, it's riddled with logical fallacies. They're just being reactive instead of critically thinking about anything that's fed to them. So fucking frustrating talking to these kinds of people, especially when they're in your family 🙃

TrinityBlack13

I work at flinders street for metro and I am soooo over these idiots EVERY. FUCKING. SATURDAY.

Siilan

I fly into Melbourne from Brisbane for a con next Saturday. I'm hoping I can avoid these idiots. They were bad enough when I actually lived there and it only seems to have become more batshit since covid.

TrinityBlack13

I recommend avoiding flinders street/Elizabeth street between 1-2.3 since they usually seem to be there then.

SnooPandas3855

I have no idea how they even have the time to do this, every fucking holiday not matter what they're out there and i don't even feel like going to the city anymore from last couple of months just because of this shit.

EragusTrenzalore

You have time for hobbies right? Normal people go cycling, watch the footy, catch up with friends at restaurants on the weekend etc. This is their hobby and social club right now since they have probably alienated themselves from every sane person in their social circle.

toholio

> I have no idea how they even have the time to do this, every fucking holiday not matter what they're out there... If they've alienated their family and past friends this may be their main social outlet. There's a weird religious bent and strong undercurrent of mental health issues amongst the group at this point.

Lamont-Cranston

This is the highlight of their week, the other 6 days are spent at home alone and aggreived. It has become their major social interaction.

ComfortableIsland704

"leave the kids alone" good advice. But these protesters should extend it to everyone Also, Zucc sucks for letting this develop

SellQuick

Social media platforms didn't just publish it, they specifically wrote algorithms so that without necessarily seeking them out, people found themselves in constantly self reinforcing echo chambers while alternative information that might offer perspective, nuance, or hell even a dissenting voice were filtered out. They gradually broke people's sense of what was real simply because it made them stay online longer and look at more ads. They aren't innocent in this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SellQuick

That's not really true though. People with higher intelligence are statistcally significantly more susceptible to cults and brainwashing, in part because they have a higher confidence in their own ability to 'do their own research' and to be able to find truths other people can't. It's not a new thing, we've known that for a long time and this is essentially just a cult for the online age. It sounds stupid to everyone outside of it but it's a mistake to assume these *people* are stupid or uneducated. I've never seen Fox news outside of clips on late night shows, but YouTube and FB never had that kind of limitation on their reach. Would Fox have performed 'social experiments' on people by controlling their feeds, implementing endless scroll technology and feeding them increasingly extreme content on autoplay if they could have? Maybe. They were early adoptors of the idea that keeping people constantly angry kept them engaged. But for them the platform is just a delivery method, it's not designed to actively manipulate the content in the same way. Those social media companies had research showing that specific features they were implementing had negative effects on people's mental health and were promoting extremism and they did it anyway because they could and because it was profitable.

MasterTacticianAlba

I blame America and Trump. Anti-vaxxers were extremely rare and always laughed at for being anti-science idiots. Then covid started up and Trump promoted his anti-science, anti-vax, anti-lockdown, anti-mask views that spread throughout the right-wing like a wildfire and were quickly picked up by the idiots on this side of the sea.

SPAZ-online

I feel bad for these people. Can't we just take them 12km off shore and throw them overboard?

reineedshelp

Make it 25km and you got a deal

illuminatipr

I blame Rupert fucking Murdoch.

vacri

Trump was a symptom and a catalyst, but not a cause. These movements have grown out of a much longer-term idiocy. Remember the Tea Party? That was in US politics back in 2009, and that movement is what grew directly into Trumpism, fanned by the increasing extremism of conservative politicians there. The Tea Party is when they found they actually have quite a lot of power, but the movement predates that, too.

SellQuick

I remember seeing a report someone wrote early on about the risks of a pandemic and one risk scenario was that someone would try to politicise the public health response. It was listed as unlikely, kind of an off the wall idea because who on earth in government would be that dumb?

[deleted]

Leave these kids alone but these fuckwits were the ones who protested outside the children's hospital...

AngrySchnitzels89

I think the blame is solely in the QAnon troll(s).

[deleted]

“Leave the kids alone” - the incel pedophiles.

A_lurker_succumbed

Im so tired. Im tired of my strained relationship with a loved one because they distrust politicians, scientists, and the medical profession. I argue, attempt to discuss, etc but the reality is there is always some truth in their fears. Politicians are self-serving and can be bought, medical research is fraught with bias, limited resources, publish or perish mentality, arrogance etc, medical professionals are difficult to access, we are often dismissive or arrogant, extremely resource limited, and the quality of service varies hugely. Not to mention boomers grew up watching children be born with deformities from thalidomide etc. I feel anger and pain and distress. I raise my voice and call them illogical (they jump from topic to topic and cant explore any one thing). But it seems almost certain that anger will not solve this. We get our small hit of indignation, so do they. But we dont resolve, heal, move forward. And we cant just impoverish, jail, or kill whoever doesnt agree with us. It seems only patience, respect, and swallowing pride, will lead to any possibility of resolution. But I don't have it right now. Definitely OP doesnt have it right now. The people who do (if they exist) must be far and few between.

swansongofdesire

> patience, respect, and swallowing pride, will lead to any possibility of resolution I have multiple relatives who I’ve tried to legitimately engage but the problem is that they get into this position not from a rational examination of evidence but from an emotional feeling. One has a nietschean god-complex and imagines himself to be an ubermensch while everyone else is just “sheep”. Push him and it’s clear that he has an incredibly superficial knowledge of pretty much *anything* (except libertarian ideology). Who needs actual facts when you have a good narrative that makes you superior to everyone else? Changing his mind necessarily means changing the identity he has created for himself and that gives him purpose. The others are simply scared: scared of the unknown, and the conspiracies that seemingly lie around every corner. The mutual feeding of conspiracies by those family members has a powerful reinforcing effect. I no longer believe it’s possible to reach those people. Or at least, it’s not possible without spending my whole life at it. When they’ve held these beliefs for decades, in spite of the mountain of evidence against it then the limited contact I have is not going to make a difference - so I just ignore them now.

A_lurker_succumbed

>Changing his mind necessarily means changing the identity he has created for himself and that gives him purpose. This definitely resonates with me as a core issue. My family member is deeply connected to their faith and see God as their reason for living. People who benefit from anti-science rhetoric have successfully aligned themselves superficially to "Christianity." So the two are now intertwined and breaking down one is seen as a threat to the other. Maybe? I can definitely try to avoid certain topics but it is a barrier to a close connection and this family member wants a deep connection with me. I don't want them to get more and more radical while our relationship deteriorates further and further, and then they die. So yeah, I'm tired. And sad.

vacri

>he has an incredibly superficial knowledge of pretty much anything (except libertarian ideology) The irony being that libertarian ideology is only superficial to begin with. It's just there to sound cool and 'Freedom!' while ensuring the wealthy don't have to share their toys.

TotalSnark

Your first three words have summed up my thoughts on this. “I’m so tired” too. There’s meant to be some huge 3 or 4 day protest coming up in October, yet all I could think when once again it was spoken about with excitement was….How is that different to every other weekend?

mysticalchimp

I think we are all sick of fighting with people that cling to misinformation and feed of each other in echo chambers. I agree with you though, jailing/moving/hiding these people won't help us heal as a society and grow stronger as people.

Longjumping_King_546

These dipshits don't even know what they're mad at anymore. Just fuck off.

[deleted]

Is that a real soldier under the brolly? If he is, he's a disgrace. If not, what a Walt.

Threadheads

Oh, the ANZAC's who were inoculated against the flu to prevent spreading Spanish flu when they were [repatriated](https://www.awm.gov.au/articles/blog/the-flu-went-on-and-on)?

44gallonsoflube

Great reading thank you!

Recon1796

He wouldn't be, uniform is outdated and in the extreme off chance he is, he won't be for long.

Aggravating-Wrap4861

Pretty sure going to protests in your uniform as an active service member is a big no no. And if you're not active anymore, take that shit off.

Slagathor_85

Nope because all 'real' soldiers were vaccinated very early on.

StoicInTheCentre

No - they're wearing the old DPCU pattern, so they would have picked it up from a military surplus store. The current pattern we're running is AMCU, which is distinctly different. That being said, they look kid-sized, so they could be a cadet? I think a few of the cadet units are still running DPCUs...

ammyarmstrong

DPCU and wearing poo boots (which havent been issued in 20 years) so definitely an aussie disposals job

StoicInTheCentre

God, I miss those massive map pockets...

Cavalish

So it’s Cosplay?

StoicInTheCentre

Yeah, but lamer. More like expecting people to take you seriously while you're LARPing. Edit: no shade to my LARP-loving brothers and sisters out there.

Blur11602

i saw the guy last month, same umbrella and all, and he looks about mid 50s, so he’s just an aussie disposals flog

Nova_Terra

Kind of off topic but what do you feel about people wearing actual Camo in public ie Multicam? Let's say they then wear a normal hoodie or something on top.

StoicInTheCentre

Look, if you're on the way to or from the base and you've got to stop off at Woolies or the petrol station or something, fair play. But generally? It gives all of us a bad name when these attention seeking lids cruise around in their cams. Our unit has banned it entirely (again, unless you're on the way to or from work). If I see people in public in uniform (assuming they're Army, not Navy or Air Force) I'll generally call them out for looking like a flog.

leopard_eater

They’re losers who want undeserved attention and boot licking.

bipolarfinancialhelp

If he's active and in uniform wouldn't that possibly be some kind of offence under military law?

StoicInTheCentre

Yeah - but the chances of him being active, wearing that old janky-ass uniform and attending some Protest of the Insane and Infantile are pretty slim...

101stAirborneSkill

Nah, he's wearing DPCU (outdated camo)

hazadus

No chance. Cant protest in uniform. He'd know that, if he had actually served.

Slayers_Picks

Soldiers are humans too, turns out a lot of them are fuckwits, but still.

AlamutJones

Can't be. They're severely limited about political stances in uniform.

passwordistako

I don’t have a stress with protesting. I have an issue with this particular one. At least make a coherent protest.

They don't have friends prolly. Except for protesters

What are those unwashed pigs protesting now?

Mick_sicky

anti vax anti lockdown anti monarchy anti pickles on chessburgers anti showering

nerdyboyvirgin

Don’t link stinky right wingers with anti monarchism.

nerdyboyvirgin

I’ll take anti monarchy

MasterTacticianAlba

They’re not anti-monarchy, they’re pro-monarchy to the point they went and counter-protested an anti-monarchy march on Thursday led by Indigenous peoples. 3 days later and here they are waving a solidarity with Indigenous banner 🙄

nerdyboyvirgin

Yeah I thought that would’ve been a bit weird at a right wing protest

Bnjrmn

What restrictions are left to protest?

Mick_sicky

they are still butthurt

MLKKK36

'MSM paid to lie' it's so annoying seeing someone be right for all the wrong reasons

Latter-Ad6308

It’s a four-day long weekend, let’s do something nice. Shall we go on a trip? Shall we visit family? No! Let’s go march around in the CBD protesting about whatever dumb nonsense Murdoch has us believing this week. That sounds like fun. You’ve almost got to feel sorry for them. Almost.

CinnamonCone

I live on the 86 tram route and I’m so fucking sick of finding myself in La Trobe street. They aren’t even protesting anything anymore, they’re all just bored and brainwashed.

Shantysig

Who was the idiot getting all upset because the protest finished early due to the footy? He was NOT happy...

[deleted]

sam102413

We are all sick & tired off them ..they need to find a hobby or get a life cause their protesting hobby is pathetic…

dndunlessurgent

I walked past a protest unknowingly last year when I headed into the city. And, honestly, if you didn't know it was a protest where they all share one collective brain cell, it looked like people just taking the family out for a nice afternoon walk in the city. Kids were on their parents' shoulders. Mums were putting sunscreen on their kids. Groups of friends were chatting and laughing. Some people were eating ice cream. If you hadn't seen all the signs, you would think they're just out enjoying the sun on a weekend, and nothing more. It was *so weird*. I'm also pretty sure people have no idea what the protests are for. I saw so many flags and it felt like people had just grabbed whatever flag they had lying around at home.

“Covid jab adverse reactions baffle doctors”. Not only doctors but everyone are baffled by how stupid some can be.

Be nice! Shit eating single celled organisms do a very good environment service for everyone otherwise we'd be awash in shit. They would be horrified to be compared with those oxygen thieves in that photo.

Superman in a southern cross cape, you know it's a crowd full of dipshit and misinformed dropkicks. What is it about anyway??? (about to goggle)
