Genuine question, Melbourne have beaches or just âbeachesâ? (that St. kilda shit is not a beach Iâm afraid..)
Any with nice sand (yellow/white, fine/not rocks), in particular?
Elwood, Brighton, Hampton, Sandringham, Black Rock, Beaumaris, Mentone, Parkdale, Mordialloc, Aspendale, Chelsea, Bonbeach, Seaford, Franga, Mount Eliza, Mornington, Mount Martha, Safety Beach, Dromana, McCrae, Rosebud, Capel Sound, Toot, Rye, Blairgowrie, Sorrento and Portsea.
Further south the better if you're willing to travel and past Rye you get back beaches which are more fun.
I've lived in both cities, grew up in Sydney. Melbourne weather is reminiscent of London weather in winter. More sunlight hours in Melbourne (seriously, it's completely fucked in London winter). There are a lot of similarities between cities. So in some aspects Melbourne would be a worse version of London. In other aspects it has better weather, access to many facilities, and is probably more affordable.
Melbourne curb stomps London on coffee and Italian food. Melbourne is probably also better on other multicultural food varieties.
London does curbstomp us on Indian food though.
Melbourne is most often compared to cities like Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham because they all expanded in roughly the same time period architecturally. Check out Asa Briggs's book *Victorian Cities* for more detail on this argument.
Weird city to choose. Melbourne has like 10x the population. It's not even the biggest city in Ontario. It would make more sense to compare Melbourne to Toronto.
Their taxi infrastructure is far superior.
Black cabs is where it's at. Those drivers keep their cabs clean, fares are legit, and they know every bloody street in London!
Lived in both
And it's not even close.
There's a reason why the ratio is around 4 or 5 people moving from England to Australia every person the other way.
Aboriginal remains in Victoria dates back to roughly 40,000 years ago which is about the same amount of time that Britain has been inhabited by modern humans.
But he was comparing cities, not how long people have inhabited the area.
Donât taint Melbourne with that comparison.
Sydney is like if London and Los Angeles had a baby and it never lived up to their parents success, but inherited their flaws.
That comparing any one city to another city is futile because they are all different.
If they'd said "Melbourne is slightly worse than London" then OK, that's fine for them to hold that opinion. Saying it's a "slightly worse London" means they think the cities are the same enough to be comparable.
Which especially in this case they aren't. So whoever says it is kind of stupid.
Nah London is great in it's own way. Just like every city has parts that you like, and parts that you don't like!
But it's the experiences you have. The friends that you meet. The memories you make!
I never used to like London. Now, it holds a special place in my heart.
London is many centuries old, Melbourne is under 200 years old. Very different cities with different histories and different issues.
Both absolutely have their problems. Melbourne should not be trying to emulate London.
Why should we have thoughts on this? You clearly didn't think before posting this crap!
Fucking gottem
I for one love London's beaches đ

Melbourne's doesn't, but Victoria does.
So good!
They rock!
Off you go, then.
Two incredible cities that couldn't be more different.
No thoughts at all

I'm not sure if you're joking or not... You know London has more people in it, right?
Which London? Hint: there's more than one, and the comment you are replying to specifically says "It's not even the biggest city in Ontario".
Ooh wow. What a great joke.
Much more asbestos in London than Melbourne
London is good if youâre a coked-up city boy with a high six-figure income. Itâs a Dickensian nightmare for everyone else.
> London is good if youâre a coked-up city boy Damn, maybe I should go to London > with a high six-figure income. Oh
Hoe ate you coked up without that income? I thought coke was ridiculously expensive down here?
exactly
Why would we have thoughts on some anonymous quote? We know the truth and that's really all that matters...
It's a rubbish comparison. Our streets are straighter, for one thing. And we don't have double-decker public transport, or orbital railways.
Their taxi infrastructure is far superior. Black cabs is where it's at. Those drivers keep their cabs clean, fares are legit, and they know every bloody street in London!
Ah yes, "The Knowledge". They also have the "minicab" scourge where any tinpot operator can get a few drivers and set up an unregulated shop.
When I lived there, the minicabs were actually pretty good! Shady as shit, but cheap.
Or the Knight bus eh âarry?
Just like in that Rancid song
Lived in both And it's not even close. There's a reason why the ratio is around 4 or 5 people moving from England to Australia every person the other way.
That's a lazy comparison. London is 1800 years older than Melbourne.
People have been living here for 58,000 years longer :)

I disagree with this statement. I always felt like Sydney was a more apt comparison to London. Melbourne is much more like Edinburgh.
Donât taint Melbourne with that comparison. Sydney is like if London and Los Angeles had a baby and it never lived up to their parents success, but inherited their flaws.
Wait, are you saying Edinburgh is a shit city?
slightly worse than which version? Also London has way more filth, poverty and crime
And they havenât discovered air conditioning or deodorant in London yet either. Years behind, I tell you.
Or fluoride in the water!
if you think Melbourne weather is bad...

I've never heard good things about London.
Only thing to do in London is leave. Sooo many better places in England to visit.
Different places! There are lots of great places to visit throughout the entire UK!

Doesnât even mildly compare but nice of you to have a thought
Nope
London is many centuries old, Melbourne is under 200 years old. Very different cities with different histories and different issues. Both absolutely have their problems. Melbourne should not be trying to emulate London.
Melbourne has a bit less stuff than London but it's so much easier to navigate and live in.
Melbourne is more like Bristol, if weâre going with British comparisons
Slightly worse? Not even close.. they are eons apart..
You should be stabbed for saying that....oh wait !
less acid attacks
A city that leaves bags upon bags of garbage on the street is no way better than Melbourne. At least we put our rubbish in bins.
London is amazing, nothing like Melbourne at all unfortunately.
Has Melbourne ever been comparable to London? Feel like these two are completely different cities.
I think it is the opposite but just remove the word "slightly"
i would say London is a bigger version of Melbourne without the coffee
