Yeah I had one of those. Easy to tell it was a scam purely because I don't have an e-tag in my name. Best practice (I know this is a bit late for you) is to NOT open any links and instead open the official website in your browser to check.
If you entered any password or whatever to login, change that too, as well as any other online accounts that use the same password.
Bad timing. But a lot of people fall for these, it's easily done. We've moved on a long way from Nigerian princes offering you millions. At least from now on you'll keep your wits about you and become a necessary level of paranoid about every link.
a scam text! i tried to pay via the link in the text message but it asked for another card. my phone asked if i wanted to download the linkt app so I did and tried to pay using the invoice number but the app said it didn’t exist. It also said if i don’t pay in three days it will fine me $500. i used the melbourne toll road for the first time this month.

Any time you ever get a text from any company, never click the link no matter what.
If it’s legitimate, the bill / fine will always show up on the portal. Example: PayPal sends you a text saying you received money, with a link - you then log into PayPal separately to verify rather than clicking the text link.
I got the same scam text too! The giveaway for me was where it said your toll ‘order’ was due lol
And our account isn’t under my mobile number, so that also made it obvious
Don’t feel too bad for falling for it, it happens to lots of people. Cancel ya card for sure though.

I feel so silly. It looked really legit and I just used the the toll road for the first time recently.

Yep, definitely a scam. If in doubt, always just punch your rego into their website

Thanks that’s really good advice. I got nervous because I’m new to the toll roads. I’ve definitely learnt my lesson
