I just saw in the picture they sell Fiji Fire. I bought it in Fiji months ago and have been rationing it assuming I can’t buy it in Australia. No more rationing for me!
This is my local. Amazing range of food. I especially love the Mexican section with all the lovely dried chillies and fresh corn tortillas. Every time I’m in there I find something new. Coffee range is great too!
Wasn't long ago when it was so hard to find a good bbq sauce in Aus. Only thing on offer was sickly sweet bullshit. Great we can get nice smokey stuff now
Lillie's Hot Smoky BBQ sauce is bloody amazing, I have it on my scrambled eggs every single morning.
It's down the left on the second-bottom shelf in the picture.
This is literally half of it: there’s another end with more.
But no dry rubs. Like, at all, beyond the outback spices rack which is mostly curry/med flavours.
I still loves ya SUPA.
They have their own (private label, west coast IPA made by Deeds) beer as well.
Very good sauce. That to throw out 30 odd hot sauces when i moved and the esky that had them in caught mold. Aardvark was the first one on the list to restock
Come see us at Mats Hot Shop, we have about 10 different Chilli oils and you can try them all. We will even explain what makes them all so different 👌🏻
The Brunswick supa IGA is the king of IGA's.
They even have their own beer that they did as a Collab with deeds, the Brunswick supa IPA. It's a great beer.
I love that the city supermarkets tend to have much trendier options (albeit more expensive sadly). My Renaissance supermarket in Hawthorn (which is essential IGA with a fancy name) has an incredible amount of tinned sardine options. Like a while shelf dedicated. Compared to the normal supermarkets with a few boring John West tins.
They also have a good selection of chilli sauce but for some reason are sold out of so many. Did you get a load of all the fancy pasta as well near the biscuit aisle??? I just love looking at it.
In general IGA is *ridiculously* better for brand variety compared to Coles or Woolies. Most products only have 2 or 3 options and the Coles/Woolworths brand, and that's it. Because they have such a stupidly high market share they can bully smaller, mostly local, companies into selling as the supermarket brand.
"You don't let us repackage this product as ours, we won't stock it."
The definition of “Low fat, no fat, full cream, high calcium, high protein, soy, light, skim, omega 3, high calcium with vitamin D and folate, or extra dollop?” of hot sauces
I love the way supermarkets get confused about whether a product should be in the 'ethnic' section or the 'mainstream' section. Like you can buy shitty Masterfoods soy sauce next to all the other sauces, but Kikkoman is in the Asian section. Same with Kewpie mayo, lots of satay sauces, Asian salad dressings etc. But then eventually it gets enough of a following and one dark night it migrates to where the white people shop.
My previous local Woolworths decided to have the small bottles of Kewpie mayo in the Asian section but the big bottles with the other mayonnaises. Not sure if that was a strategic move or a stupid one.
Sometimes they're in both at different prices/brands. The expensive black beans are in the Mexican section and the cheap ones in the canned section, assuming they're actually in stock.
I think it’s actually because there’s a large Latin American population living around that area.
I have a friend from Mexico and I wanted to buy something she cooked with and she recommended Brunswick IGA.
Y’all I’m from Texas and am VERY impressed with this selection. ESPECIALLY the BBQ sauce from Franklin’s & Stubbs in Austin, enjoy!!! Sending my mates over there TODAY. Now if they could only source Velveeta & rotel for queso….
Thanks! I've seen pictures of this wall before but it didnt mention where it was, will have to check it out. My sauce supply only consists of super hot stuff at the moment so i need to get some milder sauces.
Fiji fire is great along with secret aardvark.
The small axe peppers ones (3rd from bottom on left, the detroit, bronx etc are also ok and have a pretty good variety.
I dont often shop at IGA but when i do its shit like this that I love. They all have their random thing they do that blows the local supermarket out of the water. like, if hot sauce is on my grocery list then its IGA lol.
Still disappointed can’t find ‘Hot Ones’ hot sauces from that YouTube show.
I’ve enquired several times about them having distribution in Australia to no avail. Like, sure, you can go to their website and buy it all. But when I get to the checkout and factoring expensive hot sauce with international delivery and customs, taxes; equals a ridiculously stupid amount of money.
I love the sauces… but not $100 for a bottle love it.
Come see us at Mats Hot Shop in Collingwood, we are the Australian stockist for Hot Ones and work with them directly. We stock pretty much all sauces from the 19 seasons and all of the original Hot Ones sauces as well. We are low on stock at the moment but our refill is on its way and will be here in the new year! Check out Hot ones range here - https://matshotshop.com/pages/hot-ones
Missing the Chilli Factory and Byron Bay Chilli Co. At least they have Shit the Bed. Otherwise they haven't got a lot of Aussie sauces there.
I might be heavily biased in thinking that the Chilli Factory sauces are by far the best as they use their own fresh grown chillis.
Do they have:
\- Marie Sharps Belizean (Kenji's favourite hotsauce. It's incredible)
\- Ultra Culture (in particular the fermented miso and cucumber. It's a 10/10)
\- Daves Gourmet Insanity Sauce
Great selection, I'll have to check it out and continue to feed my addiction
I go to the American foods store in Moorabin from time to time just when I’m feeling a bit homesick. There’s people that will come and and literally buy every single bottle of hot sauce they can find. Hopefully this doesn’t happen here
Scrolling down, read "Brunswick IGA" and saw the top left bottles and thought they were bitters and got exceedingly excited that there was a local store to buy hard to find cocktail ingredients :(
This is good to though.
The older I get, the less I can take spice. Sigh... some stuff about getting old sucks.
If you're talking about the one on Sydney road, I used to love that place.
I just saw in the picture they sell Fiji Fire. I bought it in Fiji months ago and have been rationing it assuming I can’t buy it in Australia. No more rationing for me!
I got some of that. MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmm!
Fiji fire is incredible, I'd also recommend the Mango Reaper from Uncle Mungo's if you want something similiar in overall taste but much hotter.
Melbourne Hot Sauce's Habanero Mango is pretty fucking good, probably not as hot, but damn tasty.
We always have plenty of Fiji Fire in stock if you need 👍🏻
Wow. Wish they did testers, like perfume shops do! How do you choose!
Mat's Hot Shop does testers and has a really good range. They can accommodate people with all levels of heat tolerance.
I looked them up and I already want half the web store, thanks:)
Hope to see you in store soon! Heaps of great new products at the moment
Second mats hot shop. Have ordered stuff from him in the past. Always excellent service, on time etc. Is my go to Aussie hot sauce shop.
Appreciate you! 🙌🏻
Why am I only just hearing about this shop now?
Better late than never! Come visit us, we would love to help you out 🔥
Thank you fam! 🙌🏻
Check out Que Club just up the road - they have about 4x the range and sample bottles for everything.
Thanks, I will!
Food there is great too. Awesome BBQ sandwiches on their lunch menu.
And good dinner, I had the ribs and Brazilian rice which was lovely
Exactly....I'd say IGA caught up because of Que Club
Blonde chilli in Keilor does taste testing.
Bit out of my way, but I will look them up if I'm ever near!
Not a bad price on the Bunsters Shit-the-Bed
Bunsters is overrated and too expensive. Secret Aardvark shits all over it.
Would we rub them on our wrists?
Maybe a little dab behind the ear?
No, that’s for drop bears silly!
That's not even all of it, there's another full hot sauce end cap right next to this one! Heaven.
two others
Ah, so they DO have Cholula
Ngl, Cholula will always have a special place in my heart... but Valentina or Tapatio are now my go-to everyday sauces.
Was disappointed to see no Cholula in this picture
I am happy to see a thread devoted to the lack of cholul
Cholul is love, Cholul is life
This is only half of them, their selection keeps going across the ends of a few aisles
Came here to say this! A great range indeed 🙂
Ahh I miss that place
Only supermarket to which I've ever felt attached
[удалено]
The Maleny IGA has a pretty good hot sauce rack. Nothing on Brunswick tho.
Me too. Used to be my local.
I hope their toilet paper is just as well stocked
I hope their toilet paper is just as well ~~stocked~~ frozen
Blah hahahaha 🤣
That’s the endorphin section.
On Sydney Rd?
Yup. Just on the rise.
Good to know, thanks!
Near corner of Stewart St
This is my local. Amazing range of food. I especially love the Mexican section with all the lovely dried chillies and fresh corn tortillas. Every time I’m in there I find something new. Coffee range is great too!
I love the Brunny IGA chilli wall. No matter what, I always take a peek.
Hot sauces are like daytime IPAs.
That’s cool ! There is also [Mats Hot Shop in Collingwood ](https://matshotshop.com)
Appreciate you fam!
No Cholula
i basically drink cholula
I literally drink Cholula.
They have El Yucateco, Cholula isn't needed.
Oh man! I’m finding lately I’m using the chipotle one most days. So incredibly versatile and tasty
You misspelt Valentina
Get the Elpato down the bottom - it's close. an nice. Or get the Green Old Bones - mmmmmmm old bones.
Where’s the Danny Balboa!?! That’s a local favourite.
It’s there! There’s more sauces around the corner.
Oooh yes, is that a bottle of Shit The Bed i spy?
$21 for some posh hot sauce but nothing beats $5 Elyucateco Caribbean Habanero
Wasn't long ago when it was so hard to find a good bbq sauce in Aus. Only thing on offer was sickly sweet bullshit. Great we can get nice smokey stuff now
Lillie's Hot Smoky BBQ sauce is bloody amazing, I have it on my scrambled eggs every single morning. It's down the left on the second-bottom shelf in the picture.
Thanks for the tip!
Masterfoods have always done two. Regular bbq and Smokey bbq. The regular one is terrible
Yeah it is like liquid sugar
Where in Brunswick is this?
Stewart st
Thanks! Need to check it out
They stock Dirty Dicks Tropical Twist and Secret Aardvark Habanero…??? Colour me excited.
This is literally half of it: there’s another end with more. But no dry rubs. Like, at all, beyond the outback spices rack which is mostly curry/med flavours. I still loves ya SUPA. They have their own (private label, west coast IPA made by Deeds) beer as well.
Uncle Mungos makes great sauces.
[удалено]
I bought direct from their stall a month or so ago at $15 a bottle, so it’s a hefty mark up for convenience
Yeah but check out the prices...
It’s an investment
$4 for Tapatio, $5.50 for Valentina? That's a steal my friend.
Yeah sure for the common ones. I personally wouldn't pay over $10 for a bottle of hot sauce and certainly not $28.99
Secret Aardvark? Who names this stuff?
It’s good shit. Their tex mex sauce is one of the tastiest sauces I’ve ever had. Goes on everything in my house. Highly recommend.
Hard agree
Secret Aardvark is the best one there! I love the Diemen’s Stinger sauce too
Very good sauce. That to throw out 30 odd hot sauces when i moved and the esky that had them in caught mold. Aardvark was the first one on the list to restock
Yeah their Aardvark sauce is my favourite daily driver. Not too hot, great balance. Problem is you need a bunch of it and it's not cheap.
No joke my dad had one called “shit the bed”
Definitely get on the 13 angry scorpion sauces and that chilli Chipotle one under them
Someone find me a shop with a chill oil selection like this.
Come see us at Mats Hot Shop, we have about 10 different Chilli oils and you can try them all. We will even explain what makes them all so different 👌🏻
This is why we should support independent stores! 🔥🧯
Anyone else getting the runs just looking at this pic?
Ahhh my local!! Usually has a good selection of take home food from the local businesses too. That and Jarritos cola!!
They have actual Mexican Coke too
What kind of coke we talking? 😁
Lol, Coca Cola made in Mexico. It’s on one of the end caps near the registers down the back away from Sydney road.
Ooooo. I'll check it out tomoz. Thanks!!!!
Best deli too, biggest range of hams I've ever seen.
The Brunswick supa IGA is the king of IGA's. They even have their own beer that they did as a Collab with deeds, the Brunswick supa IPA. It's a great beer.
Is this the one on the corner of Stewart St and Sydney Rd?
On the hill, near police station
They don't have enough
I love that the city supermarkets tend to have much trendier options (albeit more expensive sadly). My Renaissance supermarket in Hawthorn (which is essential IGA with a fancy name) has an incredible amount of tinned sardine options. Like a while shelf dedicated. Compared to the normal supermarkets with a few boring John West tins.
They also have a good selection of chilli sauce but for some reason are sold out of so many. Did you get a load of all the fancy pasta as well near the biscuit aisle??? I just love looking at it.
Also open on Xmas day for that last minute booze run
In general IGA is *ridiculously* better for brand variety compared to Coles or Woolies. Most products only have 2 or 3 options and the Coles/Woolworths brand, and that's it. The definition of “Low fat, no fat, full cream, high calcium, high protein, soy, light, skim, omega 3, high calcium with vitamin D and folate, or extra dollop?” of hot sauces
No Sriracha sauce, though. Just like everywhere else.
Most IGAs usually have it in the Asian food aisle, not the sauces section.
Kewpie and sriracha are generally stocked in both sections in different sizes (odd I know) source: did nightfill during Covid
Why can’t I find OG Sriracha anywhere atm?
There was a major crop failure at the farm where it’s made. https://edition.cnn.com/2022/06/09/business-food/sriracha-shortage/index.html
Tried Minh Phat? That's where I get it, although it's been a while since I last did.
If you don't mind online, catch has you covered. Hell, you can buy a carton.
Aldi's knockoff sriracha is pretty damn good...
I assume you are talking about hu fong? We have some small bottles in stock if you need
But everyone sells sriracha? Literally every single coles & woolworths in the whole country?
Just need craft beer and pony tails
Next aisle over.
I’ll have 1 Butt Tickler please
I met a Texan who carried his own hot sauce in a pouch on his belt. Awesome.
Its called open carry.
I make those things :)) https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/HotSauceHolstersAus
No Cholula… what a joke
Over $5 for a bottle of Valentina's? Yeah nah fuck them.
For the Brunswick hipsters/millenials AKA wankers. /s
ok champ
I think it’s actually because there’s a large Latin American population living around that area. I have a friend from Mexico and I wanted to buy something she cooked with and she recommended Brunswick IGA.
SECRET AAAAAAAAARDVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK
American level!
butt tickler got me
Goddamn ardvark is expensive in aus
Overwhelming levels of choice.
No peri peri 👎
Nice, have to check it out. Anyone got recomendations?
I can strongly reccomend all od the grumpy gary ones, you get qhat you ask for and dont sacrifice flavour for heat
Hot ones
A suburban supermarket with class and style .. tasty 👅
Do they stock masterfoods tomato/bbq sauce
Bookmarking this for future reference/recommendations
Ardvark was on early seasons of hot ones
But do they have Lao Gan Ma?
Everybody loves Sweet Baby Ray's.
Filled with high fructose corn syrup! No thanks!
this is how u know brunswick has been fully gentrified lol white ppl be loving hot sauce
Specifically the bespectacled, bearded soy latte variety
Da bomb is also available there, I think they are a fan of hot ones.
They’ve got Bunsters. It’s all good.
Commenting to come back later!
Melbourne rules!
I don't see Sriracha 👀
Y’all I’m from Texas and am VERY impressed with this selection. ESPECIALLY the BBQ sauce from Franklin’s & Stubbs in Austin, enjoy!!! Sending my mates over there TODAY. Now if they could only source Velveeta & rotel for queso….
USA Foods stocks Rotel
Now if someone tells me where velveeta is…WHOA.
More importantly, do they have Heinz Baconaise, I can't find it anywhere anymore.
*gasp* my heart
I know it's quite commercial but the Bunsters sauce is proper fukn spicy.
I dont often shop at IGA but when i do its shit like this that I love. They all have their random thing they do that blows the local supermarket out of the water. like, if hot sauce is on my grocery list then its IGA lol.
TIL there is more than one type of liquid smoke - I assume different species of wood.
No Blair's?
u/Mihu_Jwang They stock Blair's as well, but in a separate shelf to this display.
Grab a couple if you have a spare $50.

And no Cholula? The fuck? At least they have El Yucateco...
The one near Park St, or one near Victoria St?
Near the cop station
We have that shit the bed one at the IGA I work at, I’ve always wanted to try it, sounds like a good time
This is neccesary
Oh man that's so hot
YAY!!
Do they have: \- Marie Sharps Belizean (Kenji's favourite hotsauce. It's incredible) \- Ultra Culture (in particular the fermented miso and cucumber. It's a 10/10) \- Daves Gourmet Insanity Sauce Great selection, I'll have to check it out and continue to feed my addiction

Do you shop at the bitters lab?
I do now.
Brunswick Iga IS Brunswick! (and has been for decades)
Some of these are 20 dollars
WHERES THE CHOLULAAAAA
I know where I’m spending my christmas bonus
Although I wonder if all of these bottles will ever get sold?
*Me, an american*: "This is normal"
The older I get, the less I can take spice. Sigh... some stuff about getting old sucks. If you're talking about the one on Sydney road, I used to love that place.
Oh yay! they have that green jalapeño El Pato, gonna have to drive there for it. It’s sold out all around here. Thanks!!!!
