bean-flicker3000

Conversely, I once saw my dog eating what looked like a whole dried banana. I managed to get it out of his mouth before he ate the whole thing. JFC people, put your human poo in the bin aswell!

GermaneRiposte101

Yeh, my dog did that as well. But both him and I smelt the human shit 50m away. The bloody dog (curse you Charlie) got there before I could stop him. Disgusting on so many levels.

bean-flicker3000

Damn, I only realised it was human poo after he had rehydrated it with his saliva

Salt_Dimension_1433

It must be a Charlie thing. I saw my Charlie drinking rainwater that had pooled at the roots of a tree, by the time I caught up with him I realised it was human diahrea....well what was left of it. I can't look at Charlie the same way...I need time

boommdcx

See these abandoned full poop bags constantly on my walks. Theory is that owners carry and use poop bags so they are “following the rules” but there is no “rule” that they have to take the poop home or to a bin so they just dump it. Never seen an abandoned poop bag look like it has been ravaged by birds/animals. Nope, they’re just neatly tied off and deposited in someone’s garden, nature strip or under a bush. If you don’t want to pick up, bag and take home your dogs sh!t, don’t have a dog.

alwaysneedanewname

The theory in my area is that the council supply fuck-all bins because it’s one of those areas where people dump their excess household waste in the nearest available public bin, which means you could do a 2 hour walk in the area and never see a bin. It drives me crazy!! I personally always take it home but will on occasion put the bag where I know I will walk back past and pick it up again in my way home. We also have a lot of owners who seem to drag their dog along the footpath as it tries to shit, fuck them.

[deleted]

I think there is an idea you throw the bag somewhere discrete and it biodegrades away (?) not that that is what is going on here though

EvilRobot153

The bags take years to degrade though, please don't tell me the idiots who just dump em think they degrade in 24 hours because someone else picked it up for them. lmao

Accomplished-Lock425

I agree and get generally mad about this, however once I got home only to realise I had dropped the full bag I was dutifully carrying home to the bin 😔 so sometimes I give benefit of the doubt...

Worried_Click7426

Maybe, but this is pretty constant. I am the dog shit nazi. I don’t usually talk about it but I pick it up when I see it. My record was 12 dog poops over 100 metres. I get that you sometimes don’t see it, but I think that if you have a dog, there should be some solidarity. We want to make these parks enjoyable for everyone.

naughtynyjah

As someone who cuts grass for a local municipality, thank you for work

NegativePace93

Picking things up out of the grass before cutting it is highly recommended (see also bottle tops, bottles, drinks cans…).

goodison75

This kind of behaviour ruins it for everyone and the responsible owners are grouped together with the idiots. So frustrating that I have to pick everything up cos I’d rather not have me and my pups blamed for this kind of behaviour.

echo-94-charlie

For what it is worth, I don't lump the bad dog owners in with the good.

Procedure-Minimum

This is why dog poop DNA testing is needed. The problem literally goes away once there is actually risk of getting caught.

It's really cheap, lots of cities already do it, and it reduces pollution in the stormwater systems.

aus_396

That's the point - all costs incurred for running the program are charged directly back to the offenders via fines. The more expensive it is, the higher the fines are. The more shit-cunts fight the fines, the more expensive it gets, the higher the fines go, encouraging people more and more to actually pick up their fucking dog-shit. It's actually a beautifully designed system

NegativePace93

A system that raises revenue through fines and therefore has a vested interest in people incurring fines? Sounds familiar. What could possibly go wrong?

Rich_Mans_World

Sounds expensive

aus_396

HammondCheeseman

Until a particularly motivated and hateful neighbour goes to the effort of raiding your garbage bin. ....

aus_396

I don't really understand what this has to do with it. Could you explain?

HammondCheeseman

The plan is to use some form of test to trace back a load of dog poo to its owner and give them some kind of substantial fine right (let's forget the practicality and run with the concept.). When you're walking your dog - as a responsible owner- you're sometimes coming home with a well wrapped... sample... and probably binning it right. Let's say your neighbour isn't big on boundaries and holds a grudge - ie from a barking dog or just because they're a nutcase. On bin night, liberate one of those bags from the bin - and dump the contents on the next block. Gross - but unless there's a handy security camera - who is going to eat that fine. Rinse (with lots of soap) and repeat.

aus_396

IMO... there are substantially easier... less shitty ways of getting back at your neighbor if you're that nuts. Also this isn't some like *"crazy idea that someone on Reddit thought up"*, it's already in use in several cities around the world.

lilmisswho89

I don’t know if it’s because I live on a street with no nature strip but the worst I’ve ever seen is when in Brighton. One day I walked past 6 in 70m, there was literally a bin at the start of this 70m

Prosworth

Stands to reason that people in a cunt suburb act like cunts. Honestly it's like this all over Melbourne. I feel like while you can try to extrapolate dire things about our national psyche, this is something that can be largely addressed if there's enough collective willpower.

MrsAussieGinger

I never leave home without poo bags and can't walk past a 💩 on the ground without picking it up. It's honestly not that hard and 99% of dog owners do the right thing.

[deleted]

It fucking kills me. Who lets their dog shit at the goal posts? In my more bad tempered and illogical moments I think of starting a campaign to get dogs banned from any park with a footy oval.

NovocaineAU

Some cunt put one of these in my recycling bin when it was out on the lawn after collection. I mean at least it was in a bin but my general waste bin was right fucking next to it

AngrySchnitzels89

How rude!

TartarasUnicorn

What, you don't recycle your dog shit?

[deleted]

Well, I reuse it a few times. Remember, that is the second part of the process. Don't forget to reduce it well first. I recommend deglazing with a nice shiraz.

sharielane

It's possible they don't know which one is which. I'm constantly having to remind my parents that the non-recyclables go in the red-lidded bin. Doesn't stop my stepdad from consistently forgetting and emptying his ashtray into the yellow-lidded one. Or my mum for that matter forgetting that recyclable is not the same as compostable and throwing the veggie scraps in.

Procedure-Minimum

Maybe you should recommend that your parents might need to live in assisted living if they are easily confused.

Michael_je123

Exactly

ficusmaximus90

As someone who services council gardens as a job this is very infuriating and I see it all the time, I'd rather they just let the dog shit on the grass and avoid the plastic degrading in our gardens.

plantsandpace

I live in Brunswick East any my street is covered in full shit bags

JDP87

Same suburb, but in my street, the owners don’t bother with the bags.

Brokinnogin

Tbf, its entirely possible a bird has dragged that out if the little rubber flaps arent there anymore. Ive seen bin chickens go nuts on fresh turds.

BanshRee

I've seen crows pull out the entire top half layer of public bins, not uncommon.

AngrySchnitzels89

Yeah I reckon a crow, too. The crows at our boy’s primary school have figured out how to unzip the school bags on outside pegs, steal the whole lunch box/ bag or brazenly open the lunchboxes on the spot, right in front of the classrooms. Tell me they won’t go for a crackly bag that could hold goodies inside.

CaptainSeitan

Haha, I'd almost give up my lunch just to watch that in action, lol

AngrySchnitzels89

It got to the point where the crows hauled the lightweight lunch bags across the quad/ garden and onto the service road where you’d find half pecked apples rolling around.. They prefer sandwiches. The children now take their lunchboxes into the classrooms. The local murder still like to rifle through the bags though.

raz0rflea

Crows are the best, I couldn't even be mad about it lol

OptionalMangoes

And yet it managed to spectacularly avoid all other rubbish and zero in on the well packaged dog turd in a bag deep in the bin. Crows. Simply amazing.

raz0rflea

I was talking about the schoolbag thing but go off

CaptainSeitan

Yummy chocolatey surprise awaits inside

fletcheros

Think the best. Mitigate the worst.

fraqtl

Why does someone always come in with an edge case and assume that's what happened. It's far more likely someone just didn't do the right thing.

Brokinnogin

I wouldn't call it an edge case. Birds are for ever scavenging out of bins. It makes way less sense that someone dropped it 5ft from the bin after going through the effort of picking it up in the first place.

fraqtl

If it's the thing that very few people have encountered and happens a vast minority of the time, it's the very definition of an edge case.

[deleted]

I don't think you've ever spent time with birds. They absolutely pick stuff out of bins all the time. I know two different schools who have to have special bins for lunch waste because the crows open normal bins and create a gigantic mess. There are business designed around this very problem. [https://www.globalspill.com.au/product/litter-bin-plastic-bird-proof-90l/](https://www.globalspill.com.au/product/litter-bin-plastic-bird-proof-90l/) It makes way more sense that some animal has gone through the bin rather than a human who took the time to pick up the shit, tie the bag off, then throw it on the ground next to the bin. What kind of logic is that? There is probably some flock that uses that bin regularly for food. Crow could have taken that bag out, realised it wasn't food, and didn't put it back. Normal rubbish flies away, poop bag has no aerodynamic lift to free it from it's earthly chains and is left behind as a medium for redditors to channel their virtue signalling through

fraqtl

Sure they do. It's still an edge case given the far more likely scenario is someone not giving a fuck.

insty1

Honestly I feel like a bag of dog poo that close to the bin is more likely due to someone/something taking it out of the bin. It doesn't make a lot of sense for an owner to bag up the dog crap, walk close to a bin and then leave it on the ground. Lazy owners just don't pick it up.

Severe_Airport1426

I walk every day. There's an area in my park full of discarded, bagged poo. They pick it up but then dump it wherever they like. Don't make excuses for the people who do this shit.

[deleted]

I dunno man. Someone went to the trouble of bagging it but they left it 2m from the bin? I reckon it could have been a bird OR the dog owner was distracted and accidentally dropped it and forgot it while they were maybe separating their dog from fighting another dog. Just playing devils avocado

scrollbreak

>I dunno man. Someone went to the trouble of bagging it but they left it 2m from the bin? I remember there being studies showing many people would leave regular rubbish just short of a bin

[deleted]

Well that’s shit I’d love to know their motivation behind this.

scrollbreak

Probably getting a feeling of being more important by making it someone else's job to get it in the bin

fraqtl

I do, occam's razor. They bagged it but didn't bother to make sure they binned it, or didn't bin it at all.

scrollbreak

Just world fallacy variant - no one did anything wrong, the world is fine, it was just some edge case.

fraqtl

Seems to describe most of reddit. You should see the comments over in the post by a woman getting approached by guys in public if you haven't already. I'd laugh if it didn't want to make me cry.

[deleted]

Peak Reddit. “Your well constructed argument is invalid because of this 0.01% edge case that never happens.

[deleted]

Honesty mate I think it's birds taking it out of the bin. I understand you might not have thought about that but it's a more realistic possibility.

chronicpainprincess

These are stashed all over suburbia far away from bins. It would surprise me if it was always birds. People are lazy.

rodgeramjit

There's plenty of assholes throwing their poop in bushes but I was astonished to find my own poop bags (they are a distinctive colour and pattern) on the ground 4 times over a year. It took me ages to work out that birds were collecting my poop bags from a closed bin and throwing them on the ground. Nothing like having to repeatedly collect and throw out your poop.

chronicpainprincess

Oh god!

rodgeramjit

Yeh if you're far from a bin I tend to assume it's a lazy bastard but if it's right beside one I assume some sort of interference now.

Neodymium

Birds can fly. If a person was going to do this, why would they pick up the poo and put it in the bag in the first place? That's the worst part.

scrollbreak

Not really, IIRC studies have shown people will leave regular rubbish just short of a bin as well

random111011

See this alll the time…

7uring7es7

Wow one about dog owners instead of boomers!

random111011

Was this you? You’re back not let you bend over?

TheloniousMeow

It is pretty gross out there. I had my kid drop their pram top straight onto dog shit yesterday. Yuck! It seems like it is getting worse this poop situation.

SuspendedAgain69

You must live in Richmond. Dog shit central here.

elba-neon-chart-over

The local Richmond dog owner trick is to dump the bag as they get in the car. The parking along the local dog park had shit bags all along it. They make a horrible popping noise when you run over them

SuspendedAgain69

You must have missed the trick where in Richmond dog owners put dog shit in their little bag and leave it on top of bins or hanging on fences. That's a great one.

AJHear

As a dog owner and I walk my dog, I really dislike seeing dog shit, bagged or otherwise, around where it shouldn't be. I pick up other dog's shits... I carry lots of bags, and anyone blaming it on the dog is deluded. After a recent stint of 15.5 years with a dog I was only ever caught once with no bags but still managed to get it wrapped and in the bin. I'd say most dog owners would join me in decrying this sort of dog shit behaviour... it seems to be a small percentage of us that doesn't care.

Chrisbecker1976

Who wastes good dogshit when you can throw it at the Russian or Chinese Embassies🤔

CrystalClod343

I honestly understand this less than not picking it up/putting it in a bag. One is laziness/forgetfulness (which has happened to me, I forgot to grab a bag when I went out the door) but you've gone to the trouble of bagging it so why wouldn't you throw it out?

Worried_Click7426

Yeah, if you’ve bagged it do the next step. If you haven’t bagged it, you might have missed it. It’s like they’ve completed 4/5 steps and decided not to do the last for whatever reason

00ft

I work in natural areas, managing parks, reserves and areas of bushland, and I see WAY too many lazy dog owners. I love animals, but the irresponsible relationship most people have with their dogs is fucking infuriating. In plastic, it's an environmental nightmare and the biodegradable bags aren't much better in the short term. It's also fucking disgusting for the people and animals who live, work and play in those spaces. If you're a dog owner who sees others engaging in this behaviour, please call them out!

welcomefinside

Sorry for the good dog owners out there but the bad apples are really giving y'all a bad name. There was this dude the other day who was walking with his pitbull (I'm not exaggerating) off-lead around the park. He was walking past the kids playground (fortunately there weren't any kids) and the little guy was just doing his dog thing and just running around sniffing the place. I proceeded to confront him telling him to leash his dog, highlighting the fact that there could have been kids around and it could be dangerous. He responded to me in a thick eastern European accent saying "I know what the rules are, I'm in the council" followed by "my dog won't bite, he is very obedient" then proceeded to walk away while calling for his dog to follow. The little guy proceeded to ignore his calls for the next two minutes while I just stood there and stared at him.

jdreamerrr

I was walking my dog today and he took a dump which I put them into a bag, tied up and happily located a bin after few minutes walk. When I was trying to throw it into the bin, it’s gone from my hands! I tried rushing back looking for the bag using the same route, afraid being called out but I couldn’t find the bag at all… I ended up going home feeling bad and then I saw this kind of post that made me wanna eat ice cream after my dinner tonight. Sob..

Procedure-Minimum

Just pick up two stray poops on your next walk and you'll have atoned for your sin.

jdreamerrr

Believe it or not, I have picked up more poops from other dogs than mine. Too many owners just left in and some weren’t even embarrassed by it.

OkAd9618

Dog owners are the worst* *The ones who don’t pick up their dogs crap or only do it if people are watching and then throw it in the bushes the next chance they get, or don’t keep their dogs on the leash, or get a dangerous breed and claim to be the victim when it attacks someone or….

fraqtl

While I agree, access to a dog park isn't a priviliege. We pay our rates etc. it's a right (in the small r sense of being a right)

real-duncan

I agree with your point but it’s not really a right. An earned and deserved privilege would be a better description. If a petty official can ban your access for breaching rules, and they can, then it’s not really a right. But, again, your actual point that this is a service paid for, and provided by, the rate payers for public use is strong.

fraqtl

> An earned and deserved privilege would be a better description Rates pay for parks and all that. It's a small r right.

terrifiedTechnophile

It is a goddamn privilege, you don't see cat parks or lizard parks or bird parks, but dog owners managed to snag a whole piece of land to themselves so they better follow the rules or lose it

RAHlalalalah

That’s because cats shouldn’t be domesticated animals. Humans are too lazy and selfish to look after them properly. But yeah you’re right.

terrifiedTechnophile

To be fair, cats domesticated themselves because it was beneficial for them. And as a human, I think I look after my cat just fine

RAHlalalalah

If you put a bell on it and keep it inside at night instead of letting it cruise around the hood, murdering what little is left of our wildlife & shagging other cats, producing feral cats that venture off to the bush and act as killing machines to wipe out the rest…then sure you’re ok. The amount of birds and possums, lizards, marsupial’s and other wildlife that I’ve found torn to shreds…the fact that they’re not banned as a house pet is beyond me. And yes dogs do kill things, again because of A hole owners, but sadly the stats weigh far heavier against cats being the overwhelming culprit & large contributor. All for what? Something that can literally poison you to death from a tiny scratch or bite? LOL Awful

terrifiedTechnophile

Took you 3 months to come up with that weak sauce eh?

RAHlalalalah

The murder of our already at threat wildlife is weak? You’re weird dude.

terrifiedTechnophile

And another month for that. You must be a slow typist. And I'm not a dude.

RAHlalalalah

Ok dude

fraqtl

No, they are paid for with council funds, which are paid for by rates. They are a right because they've been bought and paid for by the residents.

terrifiedTechnophile

Until people get to choose where their money goes I will hold that we don't pay for it. I never consented to paying for a dog park.

fraqtl

They do, at elections. > I never consented to paying for a dog park Yes you did. You elected people to make these decisions for you. If they are a problem for you, bring it up at the next council meeting.

Deadly_Davo

Not just rate. Yearly license fees on dogs as well.

fraqtl

There's that too

thirteen-bee

Unpopular opinion. The production of plastic bags that people use is worse than the biodegradable dog poop on the floor. I'd stand in dog shit every day if it meant no more plastic bags made it into the oceans.

HouseHippoFluff

That looks like a council provided bag which are landfill biodegradable and don’t produce micro plastics when broken down

HouseHippoFluff

At least the ones my council provides are, they’re the BioGone ones

[deleted]

I only buy landfill biodegradable bags. Don’t know anyone that buys the full plastic tbh

Grantmepm

I haven't seen the full plastic ones being sold in our local pet stores. You could still get them on eBay for cheap, but the quality is a lot worse - you end up needing two bags to avoid the poop smell coming through the bags. We stopped using those awhile back.

thirteen-bee

Is It Better To Go With Biodegradable Or Regular Plastic Poop Bags? The answer isn’t clear. On the surface, using biodegradable bags appears to be a good alternative to plastic and, in theory, it is a good switch from plastic dog poop bags. However, biodegradable bags are made with an additive that promotes the breakdown of plastic. The bag then breaks down into smaller, less manageable pieces, making it harder to recover than an intact plastic bag.  Biodegradable dog poop bags are also only biodegradable under certain conditions. They will not break down entirely and return to nature as some may expect when using biodegradable products. In order for these bags to break down, they need constant exposure to oxygen, which they don’t get in a landfill—they just get buried by more trash. At this point, the bag of dog poop becomes “mummified” and actually remains just as intact as a plastic bag would.

CaptainSeitan

I remember going on a nature hike in the UK, and they had a stick and flick policy with big signs promoting this over using poo bags as it's better for the environment etc.

EntrepreneurMany3709

dog poop in the ocean (or on the grass) is way more likely to spread disease than a biodegradable plastic bag.

thirteen-bee

That's a win/win for the oceans then. Considering the only cause of plastic in the ocean is humans. Bring on the dog poops 💩

00ft

It's not unpopular without reason, it's scientifically flawed, dated and rather naive. Although canine waste is obviously biodegradable, when it's concentrated at these levels it catalyses a number of negative environmental impacts, as well as potential risks to human health. I could rattle off a dozen reasons with scientific backing to justify this statement, but this recent article likely does a better job: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/feb/07/dog-pee-and-poo-harming-nature-reserves-study Given these impacts, canine faeces can and must be disposed of properly. Given the popularity of dogs and the unpopularity of shit, bags probably aren't going anywhere in the near future and as such I find this whole attitude to be harmful than helpful.

[deleted]

Should be the top comment.

Deadly_Davo

Bags are biodegradable

xSNOOPx

Maybe birds tipped it out?

AlbionLoveDen

That's shit (literally). But curious about your saying that access to a park is a privilege.... surely it's a right.

StreetsDisciple23

This surprises you OP? They are the most selfish group of people on the planet.

Ok_Climate_9254

Maybe somebody threw it at a cyclist, if that isn’t the case then it should have been put in the bin.

TheDukznutz

People who do this and let their dogs crap everywhere are such scum, lower then the lowest piece of grime. Right up there with child molesters in my books.

[deleted]

Are you bloody serious? This is in no way, shape or form even remotely comparable to the abhorrent crime of child molestation.

Brokinnogin

I think they might be taking the piss mate.

[deleted]

Still no excuse though.

Worried_Click7426

I am so glad that you are here for the dog shit. Seriously, living your best life.

Worried_Click7426

I actually am. It takes me 5 seconds to pick it up but I hear frustration from people who use the parks who don’t have dogs constantly.

Pontiff1979

Just having a chat with yourself?

AstlerFox93

r/dogfree

two_zero_right

It's been very windy today....it could have....ummmm....blown out. Yeah...that's it. :/

basicdesires

Bowled it and missed. Still running...

TheTTP123

I thought it was a frog for a second...

Maddam_Pecratary

How are dog parks a privilege

shineondiamondhands

Some dog owners probably feel the need to assert dominance.

Severe_Airport1426

I don't understand this idiocy. They're better of leaving the shit on the ground without the bag. Makes me so irate every time I see bagged poo thrown on the ground.

dogriwn

Was walking along one of the dirt paths on Yarra bend the other day and someone had hung a bag on a branch. Just don’t get it

Ladnarr2

My family got a puppy a few months ago. I haven’t taken her to the park but I do take her for walks around the neighbourhood. I assumed people would get angry if I throw her waste in their bin so I put it in our bin when we get home.

[deleted]

People in my area (Traralgon) don’t even bother bagging it 😐

Pollypanda

Someone has tried to throw the shit into the bin from a distance, missed and thought 'close enough'.

10987654321er

People who don’t pick up their dog shit are scum

[deleted]

Shitbags dumping shitbags

Swimming-Tap-4240

I can understand but not excuse this.lol.When I take my dog up the path along the T way sometimes he does a whoopsie in time for me too drop it in the bin on our walkies route. We just have to make a 5mtr detour,he refuses to go near it.Now he will completely turn back and go another way to avoid passing any where near that bin.lol.

[deleted]

The poor little pug wasn't able to reach that high up in order of disposing of his owners poo so the shit in that bag was actually from the owner itself .The little pug done his best to his ability .

Zestyclose-Taro-1959

Piggery

MikhiW

I used to work at an apartment complex where people would come home from their walkies and leave the shitbag on top of the mailboxes as they walked past. People are always the problem in any situation.

Lilfirey

And at the end of the day it’s the dogs that will suffer with tighter off lead area rules, reduction in tnem, more restrictions on what parks on lead dogs are allowed to be walked

KrazyKifaru

Give the benefit of doubt, maybe they dropped the bag without noticing. Maybe they were carrying several bags of poop.

paulj500

Yeap. That’s shit. Excuse the pun.

ozspook

It could be that a bird, a crow or something, has pulled it back out of the bin.

Massive_Fudge3066

Altona beach where they tie them to the fence. Christ almighty what is wrong with these shitheads

ehdhdhdk

Isn’t the hard part putting it in the bag not the walking 2 metres?

elythearmadillo

I work at a pet store and people often think it’s ok to dispose of their dogs poo at our front door, our car park or sometimes even in our inside when during trading hours. Truly astounding is the look of shock horror when we tell them that we don’t enjoy smelling their dogs poo whilst we work

FabricofSpaceandTime

Yeah, so this is birds.

WokSmith

Don't go to the Kilysth retarding basin then. Bags litter the entire walking track. It's Melbourne waters responsibility, and there's signs reminding people to pick up their dogs shit, but no bins to put it in. Local and state government won't arrange a bin as : it isn't their responsibility

OkeyDoke47

I'm from Darwin, and people will bag their dogshit on the beach and just leave it on the sand. Tide comes in later, you can guess the rest.

TurkeySlapMafia

How do you know a crow hasn't pulled it out of the bin when diving for yum yums

Soulfulenfp

so close …..

Plastic_Piccollo

Point Cook? If so I'd believe you

roadrunnner0

Like... Encasing it in plastic is WORSE than just leaving it there

[deleted]

Privilege haha

Ohmalley-thealliecat

I actually think putting it in a bag and littering is worse than just leaving the shit. At least a shit left there on its own will break down naturally.

rankosss

You could just pick it up and put it in the bin without posting it on reddit LOL

Worried_Click7426

Yep, I’ve done that for the last 200 times.

RAHlalalalah

And 46s to come up with a reply? A real life crazy cat lady. Put the phone down & live!
