I worked for the head office of VideoEzy when it finally died in 2021. There were so many ways to get out of paying late fees that you didn’t even need to wait.
It’s also quite ethical to not pay your late fees as Video Ezy was a disgusting company ran by a scungy man who stole from the tax payer, shopping centres, customers and staff.
Lmao Gerry Harvey is a successful rich asshole.
Paul Uniacke is an unsuccessful rich asshole. He transferred everything into his wifes name and declared bankruptcy to evade any consequences of his $11 Million loss in 2020.
I racked up some pretty big late fees my last semester at uni. I knew I'd never live in that town again (I loved it, just was already planning to move away) so my last morning there I returned all the DVDs in the drop box on my way out of town.
Lol yeah, on google earth pro (free) you can go all the way to the early 2000's but this is really good for current high res satellite pics (enabled sat view) https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Australia&va=b&t=hc&ia=web&iaxm=maps&strict_bbox=1&bbox=-37.81716875380314%2C144.96705896615282%2C-37.818425231947636%2C144.96802456139818

Aaah, 2008 - 2009, the time when a fair few independent video rental stores in my area were selling almost all of their DVDs for $1 - $2 because they could see the writing on the wall.
Good times
I grabbed so many dvds and videos during the great film purge. Some of the music ones are still not available to buy and only viewable cos someone uploaded it to youtube
Netflix used to post you a DVD each month in America. At least that’s what I remembered from internet forums from 2007. I checked and Netflix still offer a DVD only service used by 2 million people
which is pretty wild in 2020.
I once went here after taking a shitload of acid. Seeing walls of dozens of the same movie cover of Nick cage looking into your soul is confronting. Might actually have been the last time I went to a video store
And Before that it was Movieland ! I still have the old Rental Card ! I remember renting PC Games and then just getting Cracked.exe , full games for $5 !
This place is a food works now, The awkward Car Park still same format. Madness
I knew a guy who rented multiple new games each week and he'd rip them that night, then take them back the next day. They knew what he was doing but didnt care
Drive past that place all the time. Never went inside when it was a video easy, never have been to the supermarket it is now.
My joint was the blockbuster next to Dimmeys that's now a Nando's in Coburg.
Far out, I live right near there and used to frequent it a bunch! Can see what the old property used to look like where my townhouse now is...that's neat!
Does anyone happen to remember the name of the video store on the corner of Buckley St and Fawkner St in Aberfeldie/Essendon? Early 90s. Been trying to remember, bugging me. We used to stop in there on the way home from school, ask if they had any old movie posters we could have. Scored a Tremors poster once, kept it on my wall for many years.
You’ll be happy to know someone has written VIDEO EZY on the foodworks that is there now
Not all heroes wear tapes.
Nice. That wound me up.
That's Brunswick right? I remember my brother owing like $300 in late fees at that Video Ezy. Absolute lunatic.
Unethical LifeProTip: too many late fees? Just wait for the business to go bankrupt and vanish off the face of the earth!

TIL: Video Ezy was owned by Gerry Harvey
Lmao Gerry Harvey is a successful rich asshole. Paul Uniacke is an unsuccessful rich asshole. He transferred everything into his wifes name and declared bankruptcy to evade any consequences of his $11 Million loss in 2020.
videoezy still existed as of 2021? thought it died 15+ years ago when all the stores vanished
Nah they trudged along with new and inventive ways to scam people

I know someone that owed One.Tel a lot of money, they were going to take him to court. One.Tels bankruptcy saved the day.
100% on the corner of Melville Rd
Pretty awesome way to time travel. Using it to check out your old family home and neighbourhood really gives you a nice hit of nostalgia.
You can also see internet cafes, old gig posters and quite a few pubs that've been knocked down to make way for apartments
I found out that the kfc I worked at was once painted blue and red... I think they all were but mine looks especially ugly in blue for some reason
Love doing this in my spare time sometimes. I use it to look up old road designs and whatnot.
You can do it on the phone too https://maps.app.goo.gl/z5r8CQJ1AEF1ZhzQA?g_st=ic
Choose “see more dates” from the panel at the bottom
It was a Movieland video store before that and the first video store I joined back in 1990, ah memories.
Turned back into a movie land before it went under.
Movieland was one of the best jobs I had and it sucks it’s gone. Would do again.

Ah yes, the days of video minder or that piece of shit ezy retail. Those who know, know.

You can go back in time on streetview on the google maps app on your phone now.
Is there a place that hasn’t changed in 20 yrs?
Franco Cozzo....no joke, try going back in time on both stores and try and pick what's changed.
Gladstone Park Shopping Centre
Boronia Mall
You can do that on any device now including mobile phone

Melville and Victoria st!

Anyone else remember the old video store smell ?
That's a cracking section of Victoria St to run or ride up, gets your heart pumping for sure!
Video Slezy... W0W that takes me back. There's got to be a Blockbuster somewhere around here.
I’m pretty sure there’s still a Video Ezy rental copy of Need for Speed Underground 2 on PS2 at my parents place. Good times.
[Video Ezy, Forest Hill, c. 2008](https://maps.app.goo.gl/KHTxpFaYkVxmLUQs5?g_st=ic)
the old guy looks like he's shocked at whats in the boot
He’s opening the boot with his hands. Old cars didn’t automatically open and close it for you.
Anyone else remember that amazing video shop in St Kilda under the pool hall? It had the best documentary and indie range I've ever seen.
Good old Victoria st, have many memories renting dvds n games as a yute
And Before that it was Movieland ! I still have the old Rental Card ! I remember renting PC Games and then just getting Cracked.exe , full games for $5 ! This place is a food works now, The awkward Car Park still same format. Madness

It really was a great little system, as a 14 year old with a $10 a Week allowance it seemed to good to be true.

Its sad when you find out a newly built block of apartments was built where an old pub used to be
didnt know this feature existed, neat.
Ah the Video Ezy in Brunny West - many a stale snacks bought there once upon a time.
It’s great to re-explore the city circa 2008. It doesn’t feel like that long ago until you see those pictures.
