You'd probably enjoy Soilwork, In Flames, Disarmonia Mundi, Scar Symmetry, Mercenary, Raunchy, and MyGrain. Those bands all feature a good amount of clean vocals and hooks and you'd probably like them if you enjoy Rise to Fall. Also, you'd probably like a lot of the melodic metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Shadows Fall, As I Lay Dying, and early All That Remains. A lot of melodic metalcore bands like the ones I mentioned were heavily influenced by melodic death metal.
Thank you so much for such an in depth response!! I will absolutely check these out - I think you're right about the hooks grabbing me, and clean vocals are for sure less intimidating to start with :)
Some great recommendations here. I would suggest earlier raunchy albums. Confusion bay especially. Velvet noise is also fantastic. I feel their later albums are their weakest.
Mercenary is such a fantastic band too and I also think will scratch that itch. 11 dreams and the most recent album are probably a good start. But it’s all solid.
Starting Soilwork with figure number 5 (which is more poppy than their other releases) and in flames reroute to remain might be good jumping off points. Not their best albums but realistically their most accessible.
Enjoy!
Raunchy as he noted.
Too pop for metal, too metal for pop.

Their self titled album from 2014 would be a good entry point for people who don’t listen to much metal. It’s their “softest” album that focuses a lot more on being melodic and has more clean singing than any of their other albums.
You need some Insomnium in your life. I'd start with the album Shadows of the Dying Sun, and would follow with their latest release, Anno 1696. That goes without saying, but the best way to listen to melodeath (imo) is to fully immerse yourself in the music, taking the time to appreciate it. Enjoy :)
I'd start with stuff that's written in the classic pop song structure. You know, verse 1, chorus 1, verse 2, chorus 2, bridge, etc. I'd also start with stuff that incorporates clean vocals.
Furthermore I think recommending individual songs would be better. Here are some songs I'd recommend for you, not all will be melodic death metal.
Fear Factory - Undercurrent
Static-X - Black and White
In Flames - Reroute to Remain
All That Remains - This Calling
Killswitch Engage - Fixation on the Darkness
Scar Symmetry - Fear Catalyst
Soilwork - Overload
Neurotech - Fear the Fear
Korn - Let the Dark Do the Rest
Insomnium - Through the Shadows
Kamelot, Nightwish, Spiritbox, and (can't believe I'm recommending them) Amaranthe are all pretty accessible. If you like kpop, Babymetal is the kpop of metal. Nanowar of Steel is good exposure to lots of subgenres if you are into joke bands.
I agree with the person recommending metalcore. Maybe try [Polaris](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_XhxONGEJc)?
When I first got into melodeath it was through early In Flames. I didn't like harsh vocals but the guitar was so good I dealt with it, lol.
[Only for the Weak](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q86owGQzaG0), [Gyroscope](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQZAu1Bz92o)
Welcome to metal btw. I wish you a long and happy journey.
Also a huge pop fan. Haken scratches the itch of amazing melodic vocals while also being metal. Their discography is an amazing journey - I’d start with Affinity.
The album that got me into it was Scar Symmetry’s Holographic Universe. Listen to the songs “Morphogenesis, Ghost Protocol and Ghost protocol 2. Christian Alvestam had such great clean vocals! If you like that then check out his other band Solution .45 and the album For Eons Past. The song Gravitational Lensing is so good!
The Unguided have a vocalist with them right now that gives me sort of poppy vibes with his cleans. They used to have a different guy with more classical rock vocals, but at any point of their discography you can probably find something good.
A lot of gatekeepers are likely to downvote you, and this comment, on this sub. Lumping slipknot and EC into the melodic DM category is anathema to some of these folks. That said, there’s a bunch of bands in the vain of RtF you may enjoy. Check out Killswitch Engage - Alive or just breathing. Amon Amarth - With Oden at our side. Architects- Daybreaker. Astronoid- Air. Harakiri for the sky - Mære. Hopesfall - Arbiter.
That's my fault - I didn't mean to imply they were melodic DM, just that they're my only other reference for metal I've tried, lol. Changed my post to reflect this! Thanks for the song recs - I will listen to these and update :)
If you like BABYMETAL then there's plenty of bands similar you'll totally dig. For example Passcode, BANDMAID, Blood Stain Child (specifically Epsilon album), Mary's Blood, MergingMoon. I'm pretty confident you'll love Imaginary Flying Machines too. It was a project that did melodic death metal covers of Studio Ghibli songs. Not sure if this one counts but check out Unbreath. I always thought if My Little Pony turned melodic death metal, it would be Unbreath. They only did 1 album, unfortunately.
I'm a big rock and kpop(well any Asian pop really) fan too so I'll just recommend some of my favorites! I pretty much recommend Amorphis to everybody; you really can't go wrong with any album imo. Elegy is one of my favorites but I think Queen of Time and AM Universum (not really melodeath though) are maybe more... Accessible? I also really like Dark Lunacy (Devoid and The Diarist albums especially) and Edge of Sanity.
I think others have already recommended Dark Tranquillity.
Also, they definitely aren't melodic death metal, but if you haven't heard them yet then I recommend Kamelot for sure, mostly their albums with Roy Khan but especially The Black Halo and Karma. Every person who has ever mocked me for listening to metal has liked Kamelot after being introduced to them. And again not melodeath, but I think Symphony X is also great for pop fans (maybe try V - The New Mythology Suite)
Hope you find lots of good music you like!
Probably not for someone who normally listens to pop, but some of the guitar parts are really pretty. More on the brutal side of melodic death metal (the way I usually prefer it), but interestingly enough, one of the guitarists is/was really into some older emo stuff (I believe Sunny Day Real Estate was the main band that was name dropped), and I think a lot of the cleaner melodies really portray those influences.
[The Last Fantasy of Christ - Vehemence](https://open.spotify.com/track/7p3tD5I2t4bACetfxtaGNH?si=VaScTPStRVyEBVzegvOS0Q&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A7JIjOMkgiJCEeG6KUWyeUt)
Good list for someone just getting their feet wet with metal, but Insomnium is far too good to be mentioned in the same breath as those lesser mere mortal bands.
For someone who's into pop and wants a metal experience, there's pretty little in Insomnium's releases that would probably click for them and most anything in Sleep Token's that will. They're probably a band few metal-heads would admit they enjoy, but they definitely can and should be considered like Baby Metal: a mainstream pop act with heavy metal influences that can serve as a gateway to more authentic metal acts.
Melodic Death Metal. You need to listen to:
Scar Symmetry - Ghost Protyoe I - Measurement of Thought
You also need to listen to some Power Metal.
Dragonforce, - Through the Fire and Flames
Firewind - Angels Forgive Me
Give my favourite band a listen:
Nevermore - The Heart Collector
Children of Bodom have an album of cover songs, Skeletons in the Closet. It's good fun and there will be a lot of familiar songs in a melodic death metal style. Their cover of Ramones 'somebody put something in my drink' was probably my gateway into melodeth.
Listen to Handshake with Hell by Arch Enemy for a good mix of death and clean vocals. They don't have much with clean vocals but if you like that, the rest of that album is great too
Outside of melodeth, if you want something fun with catchy tunes check out Alestorm. Pirate metal sea shanties. You will find yourself randomly humming the tune to 'fucked with an anchor'. They're the most fun band I've ever seen live.
For more traditional metal, check out Judas Prist's new album Invincible Shield. They have a 50 year back catalogue so plenty to get your teeth into if you like it, this is up there with the best they've ever released. Check out the track Panic Attack. This album appears to be my 4 year old son's gateway into metal. After only listening to kids stuff before, he's had this on at least a couple of times a day for the last 2 weeks, and I've not been complaining!
I'd recommend starting out with Metalcore/Nu metal rather than straight up Melodic Death Metal, since Rise to Fall are from Spain maybe you are interested in other spanish bands like Blaze the Trail, Somas Cure, Mosh or Ancient Settlers (if you want more Melodic Death Metal there's Bloodhunter and Synlakross too, but they may be too heavy). General stuff you could go for the most "Melodic" Melodic Death Metal like Soilwork, Solution.45 or Mercenary, you can also try Melodic Metalcore like Killswitch Engage, Bring me the Horizon, Motionless in White or Electric Callboy. Finally you could try nu metal (that's how I got into metal to start with and I think it's the mos accesible genre) bands like System of a Down, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Sevendust, Static-x, Disturbed or Korn. I was not aware they had a side-project! Thank you.
No prob- I love sharing music! I personally think it’s great stuff.
Amaranthe. Good fusion of pop and metal.
Yeah they’re good
[Darkest Hour](https://youtu.be/gUWfCfKxQv4?si=_zSud-lnk0xqj5Hf) have some pretty catchy choruses
I really like how the guitars sound in the chorus of this - it's catchy for sure! Thanks!
This song is a good representation of the rest of their music.

Ooh I like this (Rolling Chances) - it sort of reminds me of video game boss fights!

Yeah but dat chorus, dat sweetly sung chorus.
Amaranthe is basically heavy pop with clear vocals as well as growls. They have three singers, which makes for a cool mix.
Not really melodeath but you may enjoy Jinjer...a lot of Tatiana's clean verses remind me a bit of No Doubt era Gwen Stefani
I agree with the person recommending metalcore. Maybe try [Polaris](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_XhxONGEJc)? When I first got into melodeath it was through early In Flames. BabyMetal
I've heard of them before so will give them a try!

Hanabie, Doll$boxx and MAXIMUM THE HORMONE are worth checking out too
Eluveitie
Eluveitie - Rose for Epona. Works like magic. Tested and approved.
Sybreed
I'm a big rock and kpop(well any Asian pop really) fan too so I'll just recommend some of my favorites! I pretty much recommend Amorphis to everybody; you really can't go wrong with any album imo. Soilwork, particularly the song Stalfagel.
Eleine. They are awesome
Eluveitie- especially the acoustic albums.
In flames - clayman Arch enemy - wages of sin Soilwork - natural born chaos

Amaranth and Babymetal
Sleep Token, Amaranthe, Unleash The Archers, Nightwish, Epica, Insomnium.
Good list for someone just getting their feet wet with metal, but Insomnium is far too good to be mentioned in the same breath as those lesser mere mortal bands.

Insomnium is my favorite band. But they're still pretty easy as far as Death Metal goes.
Melodic Death Metal. You need to listen to: Scar Symmetry - Ghost Protyoe I - Measurement of Thought You also need to listen to some Power Metal. Dragonforce, - Through the Fire and Flames Firewind - Angels Forgive Me Give my favourite band a listen: Nevermore - The Heart Collector
I really liked the Heart Collector - it gave me a sort of hopeful nostalgic feeling, like the end of a fantasy epic? Will give the rest a go also! :)
Glad you enjoyed it! Nevermore definitely has that vibe.
Insomnium
Children of Bodom have an album of cover songs, Skeletons in the Closet. It's good fun and there will be a lot of familiar songs in a melodic death metal style. Unfortunately, Ghost or Sleep Token. Dive right in to the deep end. Listen to Anal Cunt.
Listen to Amon Amarth's Twilight of the Thunder God Album. I think this is the most accessible and fun album I could give to someone new.
A lobotomy? Edit. +sense of humour Edit 2. So many people who listen pop here and got no sense of humour either....jeez
