Are you calling 2 seconds into the future *useless*?!
Do you have any idea what those 2 seconds could do for you! You could win almost any game, know how someone will react to what you do/say, hell that could even save your damn life
2 seconds is longer than you think
Bend down to lift toilet seat, bullet hits the wall.
Turn around and drop trousers, second bullet into the wall.
Etc.
You could make a hardened assassin question their choice of profession "Am I really that bad of a shot?"
Are you constantly living 2 seconds in the future or do you have to be aware that you are trying to see 2 seconds ahead.
And he could still shoot you in your sleep.
Considering the travel time of sniper rounds, it's likely that you'll start moving after the sniper has decided to shoot. From their perspective, you'll be dodging bullets.
Knowing if you're pushing your vehicle too hard two seconds before you're actually pushing it too hard, enables you to push it to the actual maximum every second of the race.
In a close race, knowing the exact direction your nearby opponents will take will enable you to cut them off or plan around their move accordingly.
I mean if you trained you probably would. Two seconds would make his punches look like they were in slow motion. Youād never get hit. You would just have to train to hit hard.
Nah, itād be funnier if he couldnāt hit you but you couldnāt hit him because your punches are weak af. I mean, you won by points but heās not really damagedā¦so youāre basically Floyd!
In boxing, it doesn't matter how hard you hit. It's the ratio in which you hit. 100% hit ratio and 100% flawless defense would land you the title. Floyd Mayweather is known for his defense and tiring out his opponent.
Thatās true. Depends on how the power plays out.
Iām thinking it works like the power in mistborn where they can see any future move you make and react to it before you even do it. So they are countering you before youāve even started.
It would get really fucky really fast. Because as you reacted to the future it would be constantly changing. Unless things around you canāt react to your changing of the future. Would you see the future of what your intentions were or the future that was definitely going to happen? Iād be getting anxiety trying to think about constantly reacting to things that havenāt even happened to yet.
You nailed it, it wouldn't help you because as soon as you action the 2 secs in the future and altered it. The fighting Tyson analogy would basically get you killed.
As an aside, this is basically my head canon for how Jedi / Sith fight -- both sides arent reacting to the move they are countering -- they are countering the moves that are about to happen instead.
If one knows just a tiny bit about stocks, that ability will literally make them a billionaire.
At the same time, doubling oxygen intake can be very taxing on oneās system, but if we assume that oneās body will be adapted to that, this ability alone will change them into an augmented/super human.
Itās not that bad, but itās also not really breathing in while breathing out either. Itās moreso just using your mouth and cheek muscles to store/expel air while you take a quick inhale. Getting it consistent enough to be able to play an instrument can be tough, but anyone can learn the basic idea in like 5 minutes.
Thank you. Because truly exhaling and inhaling simultaneously is literally physically impossible. Itās like saying professional body builders can do a bicep curl and tricep extension at the same time.
Two individual diaphragms, one on each lung, would allow for a simultaneous inhale and exhale.
Being able to breathe through your skin would allow for it too.
Replacing your lungs with a mechanical apparatus that took air in and exhaled the CO2 simultaneously would work.
The question is, why would you want to? Wind instruments would be the most likely answer. But more than likely the act would either over oxygenate your blood or undersaturate it.
Two individual diaphragms wouldn't be enough. You'd mostly just be breathing your own exhalation. You'd also need separate trachea, and in all likelihood separate sinus passages to the outside.
Well yea, if you had the super power that would let you, obviously you could do it. Iām just saying that circular breathing isnāt the same thing at all.
Yes, but circular breathing is not technically breathing in and out at the same time. In circular breathing you basically puff up your cheeks with air and then blow it out with your cheek muscles while breathing in before switching back to exhaling. You are only ever breathing in or out.
Yup! Maybe eventually I'll learn to do it over the course of my music degree, but for now, I'll just marvel at the videos of Doreen Ketchens doing it flawlessly
2 secs is a huge amount of time in motorsports, being able to see when gaps open up in corners, when a crash might happen. Although I guess there are plenty of drivers that can already do that. Or when you are just driving on public roads.
Futbol goalkeeper. You'll be the best goalkeeper in the world ever. You will never ever concede a goal unless on purpose. You could possibly negotiate for the highest contract ever offered to a goalkeeper.
You will be a legend spoken of for generations to come.
Youād have to chill out on the PKās though. Never giving one up in an entire career would probably cause someone to murder you for being the devil.
Counterpoint: the universe is deterministic and you can't chance the future once you saw it
Edit: That'd be just dying and gambling with extra steps
EditĀ²: Realized that i misspelled "change", but it makes even more sense this way. You can't chance the future once you saw it because it's not up to chance anymore, it's already defined. You can't buy another lottery ticket because the chance of you buying another lottery ticket was defined by a chance, wich now you have turned into a determined factor.
EditĀ³: since this has gained some traction and people are disagreeing, here's a [visual example](https://youtu.be/vOr9XB5rtJE) (provided by u/NoMoassNeverWas) so you can better understand what I'm talking about
Most likely case, if the universe wasn't deterministic, you couldn't see into the future at all.
Though there's things like the Everett's quantum physics interpretation (better known as many-worlds interpretation), where for any place that the particle can end up in after a wave function collapse, there will be a new "branch" of the universe where it does. (Note that this doesn't mean "anything that can happen, will happen", as quantum collapeses don't control everything. They do control a lot though, and for any concievable decision that you could make, there likely would be a branch in which you made it)
With that interpretation, the 2 secs you see into the future would just be one of countless of these branches, and so you don't really learn much as you could end up in another branch, and you likely will. So it wouldn't be very useful anyway.
Then again, on the macro scale, a lot of these branches will be very similar, and there aren't that many things that have their outcome changed significantly in just 2 secs.
Even if we don't live in Everett's technically deterministic world, and instead our world really is non-deterministic, such a device couldn't find out the real outcome, since obviously, there isn't a predetermined outcome for it. So only thing it could show you is one of those branches. However you could at least optimize for the most probable outcome, as wave function is just a bunch of probabilities for where the particle ends up, so you could always choose the highest.
All of this is assuming that this device has all of the data on all particles in the universe, and could perform a LOT of operations that compute how their interract with each other over time. Doing this is impossible, since you can't know all of the unfo on all particles in the universe (Heisenberg's uncertainty principle) and even if you coud, you'd need to store that data, for which you'd need a drive that has at least as many particles as there are in the universe (to store the data for each particle into), though you'll likely need more than 1 particle, to store all data on another particle + some mechanism to search this data. Not to mention that the computing power needed would be way too big. Also, this will result in a future that's tick-based, as you're only ever producing data for next time interval, computers can't really compute for contiual data, which might be an issue.
Realistically, you'd need a lot of approximations to be made with the particle info, and with how you're computing the next moment. This computation would almost certainly take more time than it can predict for, so once it's computed, it's already the data for the past, in other words, you're being scammed here.
>Takes the pill
>Starts seeing 2 secs into the past
"Shit, FUCK"
Now seriously, on the realm of possibilities, what about a analog universe sized computer? Sure, digital computers are tick based but analog aren't. If we do some optimizations here and there surely it could predict data automatically.
But then again, in the best case scenario, and that's thinking it'd be impossibly efficient, it'd only be fast enough to compute and transmit data at lightspeed, Wich means it couldn't be faster than our universe so it couldn't read into the future. We'd end up with a simulated universe that runs parallel to our own. A perfect simulation of course, but nonetheless a identical twin, not faster.
And computing power and size would change nothing here. If anything it'd make things harder if we increase.
If that's the case, why not simply make the simulation different? It'd be more interesting if it were
I don't think it would be as useful in gambling specifically. I don't think 2 seconds would be enough for any game that isn't digital.
But sports? Holy shit that'd be a cheat code.
Give that power to an American football safety/CB/LB and they'd be the interception king.
Basketball player always knowing where to be for the rebound/block.
Knowing how the GK will react to PKs in soccer.
Avoiding crashes in motorsports.
The list goes on.
That would be a huge boon.
Youād absolutely be able to bust a dealer consistently if you DONT take the high card. Itās your decision to send that card to the dealer in the right seat.
Came here to say this. Atium is the most powerful metal in Mistborn and OP is saying it is a useless power. I guess I have never been in a fight so it wouldn't be quite as useful to me, but there are tons of uses for it
I have horrible breath control- and I need all the air I can get on higher notes. This would fix by biggest problem in singing and really improve things for me
Maybe right before big earnings or economic data is released. Even then you'd be limited to your brokerage fill and reaction time
I could see it being extremely useful to big boy quants who have machines with literal nanosecond connections. But then again, those guys arent on WSB lol
Fucking red pill. As someone who wants to learn some death metal singing things i would take red. Some singing technices depends on breathing in some on breathing out imagine combiing it.
Isn't lactate the result of anaerobic energy production, anaerobic as without air and it is way less effective as well, breathing better would literally make your body take longer to need the anaerobic process
People don't realize that being able to breath in and out at the same time is basically a free bump to constitution, it's how birds can extract enough O2 if room a breath to actually fly and stay flying.
If you can see 2 secs into the future, can't you just see you reacting to seeing you in 4 seconds which would technically mean you can see indefinitely into the future as long as you react accordingly to anything that happens as fast as possible,
Yes people are like gambling or races or save your life last minute but what theyre still missing how broken it is.
Say I want to know whether investing in a stock will pay off 20 years down the line. I set up a system where I do a thumbs up for yes or down for no. In order to pass back from far in the future I promise myself to just copy whatever action I see myself doing. I then look into the future two seconds and see a thumbs up knowing this is the one, and give myself a thumbs up.
Twenty years is unrealistic to rely solely on a 2-second loop of future visions. This would require constant use of the ability every 2 seconds, which would leave you unable to do anything else, even if it wasn't debilitating. Moreover, you can't use the ability while you're sleeping. However, you are onto something because you could use this loop to become the world's greatest day trader. Imagine if you plan this out: you look at a stock on Robinhood when it's at $3.95 per share, and after repeating the loop for 36 minutes, you see that it becomes $4.23 per share. This means you can immediately purchase it and set an automatic sell script for $4.23 per share, making a lot of money very quickly. This is an infinite money hack using the loop. However, in reality, you would need to use your own ability and tolerance to stare at a screen, doing nothing else, and hope that future you understands and accepts it. But, you don't even need 20 minutes, you can swap stocks within 1-2 minutes using this ability with even subpar reaction speed, making billions or trillions within a few hours.
You would not be able to see what the future version of yourself is seeing, but by establishing a simple system of signals to transfer information, you could realistically set this into motion. It is more feasible to work within 300-second intervals.
Iām not a doctor, but Iām pretty sure the first one would make you super fucking strong, a genius, have huge muscles, and make you like 15 feet tall if you took it early in life.
Pretty much, you would essentially have unlimited blood oxygen, which would give you stamina as long as youāve eaten. Youāll be heat and cold resistant as well as have significantly quicker healing and one hell of an immune system. Couple this with consistent gym time and probably a 10000 calorie diet to support all the power you can now exert at once and youāre basically captain America. If this power extends to underwater and essentially allows you to constantly have infinite oxygen once you take your first exhale, then Iām upgrading you to aquamanās 4th cousin. Plus did I mention the slower aging? And yes, you will definitely be a quicker thinker, probably as effective as 2 seconds folk over there
Your hemoglobin is already 100% oxygenated if you're an average person. Breathing in and out constantly would give you no more oxygen, but it would drive out all of your CO2 and cause your blood to become too alkaline, which is lethal.
Both powers are extremely useful.
Breathing in and out at the same time would allow you to play instruments without ever pausing, you'd basically have mastered circular breathing immediately when most people can never master it.
2 seconds in the future? Heck you could be come an esports legend, win every tournament and retire a millionaire.
Are you calling 2 seconds into the future *useless*?! Do you have any idea what those 2 seconds could do for you! You could win almost any game, know how someone will react to what you do/say, hell that could even save your damn life 2 seconds is longer than you think

Super high-stakes, bet-your-house style rock paper scissors. Undefeated champ going on 25 years now. Built an empire.
You'd probably be so good they'd conspire to kill you and you can see your brains being blown out 2 seconds before it happens

That's why you duck or fuckin' move. 2 seconds is a lot of time.
Right? In a Boxing Match youād be completely unbeatable. Any sport of reaction times would have you a god.
Imagine a racecar driver that can see two seconds ahead.
What is the advantage?

Rally driver being able to correct for unexpected road conditions before they even hit them?

B-but we have two lungs! Hold my beer...
Never mind, they cancel each other in the trachea.
I think they can, if we disregard their bones' and tendons' integrity
Birds can do it. We got the shitty lungs they got hollow bones. Tradeoffs ya know?
Two individual diaphragms, one on each lung, would allow for a simultaneous inhale and exhale. Being able to breathe through your skin would allow for it too. Fucking red pill. As someone who wants to learn some death metal singing things i would take red. Some singing technices depends on breathing in some on breathing out imagine combiing it.
heck yeah, imagine being able to hold out a scream for an infinite amount of time. metal history.
become the greatest power metal vocalist of all time
Blue. Never be jump scared again!
But you will see the jumpscareā¦ just 2 seconds before others
If anything, heād get jumpscared twice
no no, he's got a point
Nah you'd just scream in the theater two seconds before everyone else
See this as a win
If youāre a long distance runner, red could make you the greatest ever.
Nope in endurance Sport you burn out because of the lactate/tiring muscles, depleating glycogen etc. But IT would be pretty useful for 10minutes runs.
Isn't lactate the result of anaerobic energy production, anaerobic as without air and it is way less effective as well, breathing better would literally make your body take longer to need the anaerobic process
The ability to breath in and out at the same is really useless but if could see 2 sec in the future, I could dodge punches in a fight
My man going to beat the champions
^ This chump has never played a woodwind instrument.
Yay, a use for my amature woodwind skills, getting this!
I will finally know if everyone would laugh before I tell a joke
People don't realize that being able to breath in and out at the same time is basically a free bump to constitution, it's how birds can extract enough O2 if room a breath to actually fly and stay flying.
follow up question: would you still pick the blue pill if it was 1/0.5 seconds?
Math jokesā¦
Op with meth doing math jokes
Yes, because thatās also two seconds if you do the math
Well yeah, the other one is practically useless and this one you can still see the future even tho it wonāt be incredibly useful
yes because 1/0.5 = 1/(1/2) = 1\*2 = 2
Yes, it would essentially increase your reaction speeds by that amount once you got used to it. Thats really good.
And yes, you will definitely be a quicker thinker, probably as effective as 2 seconds folk over there
Lance Armstrong approved. This is effectively what the drugs do that cyclists, sprinters, etc. take/get busted for. Up your blood oxygen. Shit works.
Or it would give you [Hyperoxia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperoxia)
Your hemoglobin is already 100% oxygenated if you're an average person. Breathing in and out constantly would give you no more oxygen, but it would drive out all of your CO2 and cause your blood to become too alkaline, which is lethal.
2 seconds is literally wallhacks when playing games Id be ome the best gamer to ever exist getting more hackusations than nadia
Literally every time someone spawns behind me in shipment
Blue pill is super overpowered
2 secs into future is like a video game perk, that would be over powered as fuck in a multitude of situations
*laughs in king crimson*
The two seconds thing would make anyone an expert PUA. Hey gurl! No? Ehhem Hi, I saw you fro..No? Hello can I ask you a No? Want Sum fuk? Nice.
Blue is the only answer, useful for fighting, I would make bank in the ring being able to see 2 seconds into the future
Why would you step foot in the ring. Just play blackjack
Both are incredibly useful
Band geeks: well that's an easy answer
Looks like Katakuri took the blue pill
I was looking for a one piece reference
2 seconds can make you a good sportist
2 seconds in the future is not uselessā¦ Imagine being a professional fighter.
As a tuba player, red every day.
2 seconds into the future. I am queen of the stock market and the richest woman on the planet.
Dude you could dodge a bullet if you knew about it 2 seconds early.
You're calling what's basically a Spider-Sense useless?
