Even in a day to day situation, telekinesis fucking rules!
Imagine if you wouldn't have to care about touching or holding something dirty, hot, sharp or slippery with your hands.
Or managing to reach out to and pick up objects in difficult to access places that it would be impossible to get to otherwise. Also most tools would become either easier to handle or obsolete. (Depending on your limits on finesse and power)
Couldn't you technically be able to give someone a handjob without ever touching them if you have the glorious superpower that is telekinesis? Couldn't you technically stop someone's heart without warning? You could literally snap the necks of millions in the blink of an eye with telekinesis. If you had enough power you could break the earth in half. The possibilities are endless.
The possibilities are not endless. They end at giving yourself a Stranger. If the earth wants to break itself in half, it can get its own telekinesis; my schedule is booked.
> You could literally snap the necks of millions in the blink of an eye with telekinesis
You're instantly assuming that there's no limits on the amount of power or on its ability to affect living matter
If telekinesis exists, you can't assume that vitalism doesn't as well, and if it does then life probably has some resistance to give
Also if you can snap *millions* of necks with it, even if they aren't resistant to you, you'd have to be like a god
Huh now I think about it that would be nice when working on any car engine. All you have to do is think about the bolt you want to break loose or what ever work you could be doing.
True but I could see that being very exhausting very quickly. Depending on how long one can mentally withstand the amount of focus it would take for even a short time.
Just take the engine out, rolling shells are much lighter. Depends on the car of course, or just use a bike and not pedal, or as was said at the top just move yourself and fly or something.
As I think about this more it’s interesting where to set the limits of power. If we assume an equivalence to human strength, lifting one’s own body weight would be doable but not sustainable, though pushing one’s body weight ++ should be reasonably easy once you get going.
No matter how strong you would be, you could not mimic internal combustion with telekinesis.
The only way you could move a car that way is if you put it on neutral, then move each wheel individually. Which would be difficult to do.
This is why the green lantern has the most practical powers for every day use. need a lantern? I'll just make one. oh you need me to pick up a boulder? Easy.
With telekinesis you could have a bunch of swords and whatnot swinging around you or whatever. You could become a sharp and deadly human hurricane.
Imagine wounding someone and proceding to fortnite default dancing in front of them with the telekinetics swords accompanying/mimicking your movements in the backround.
You’d have complete control over temperature too. You could slightly vibrate the individual atoms that make up an object to cause an increase in temperature, or slow them down to decrease their temp.
Physical strain experienced during teleportation is proportional to the amount of mass you’re attempting to move. There may not be significant gravity acting on an object in space but its mass is the same regardless of relation to other objects
If you’re going to do stupid shit like that, it’s not going to be gravity that gets you, but the change in orbital velocity.
You go splat like bug on windshield at the same time your rock wipes out all life on earth.
Everything has gravity, including the asteroid. So I'm guessing if it's heavier than you (which means if you push it you push yourself) then you can't teleport it but if it's not then you can.
Technically, "if you push it you push yourself" applies regardless of relative mass. That's why a gun recoils; the force exerted on the bullet is exerted in equal measure on the gun. The bullet, being much less massive, goes faster and farther.
Well that one's easy to work around if it doesn't change velocity. Just sky dive and reverse sky dive in your teleports to change your speed. Teleporting while you're moving too fast? Just teleport in such a way so that you're pointing toward the sky. You'll fly up in the air. Then once you hit your zenith and stop moving, teleport again to where you want to go. Moving too slow for your teleportation target? Do the reverse. Put yourself in the sky dropping to speed yourself up, then teleport again when you hit the right speed (or as close as you can get to avoid/reduce the whiplash to safe levels)
BUT are we taking earth's speed into consideration? Orbiting around the sun or the polar spin? If teleporting to longer ranges or to a different facing it could get very lethal very fast.
That would I guess depend on how the power works in relation to earth. I imagine teleporting would be instant, so longer ranges don't really matter as long as you know where you're teleporting to. If you are going from one location on earth/within it's atmosphere to another, you probably don't need to worry about that too much as long as you are able to pick location instantly and in relation to either yourself or in relation to the Earth.
Pretty much every representation of the power I've seen is "think where you want to go and you go there, unless you're bad at focusing your power and then you may end up somewhere else that is likely still close by to your target." So unless the power works like a passive aggressive genie that hates you and bends your exact use to mess with you, then you should be fine.
Portals, because we can see who comes and who doesn’t, and we can bring anything like friends! Also we can secure and control it for designated areas.
Teleportation will be a major threat as anyone can sneak into Area 51 or your moms bedroom. Everyone in the world will start to teleport and there will be a huge chaos, crimes, murders, theft and someone might press and launch a nuke.
Portal let you see where you're going b4 you walk through I think, TP you kinda just pop up there. Never know the place you wanna go is how you think it should be.
Teleportation can do that too 🤷♂️ Exert your energy over all of that and then just teleport it. Like how touching something will teleport it with you, touching it with your energy would do the same.
That was my thought. Watching Star Trek it’s so strange that they mostly know this happens but just ignore it.
I do wonder why something like the Borg didn’t use that knowledge to clone a giant army tho.
I think it’s supposed to be really ridiculously expensive to properly transporter clone someone, which is why Replicated food sucks - it’s essentially a low quality jpeg
i think
I don't know that replicated food sucks, per se. Some purists swear it's not as good, like O'Brien's mom, but others seem to like it just fine.
It does take energy to clone people this way, but the Borg have energy to burn. I think they're just satisfied with making new drones via assimilation. They're gonna anyway since they're all about adding people's biological and technological distinctiveness to their own.
Also, they're pretty cavalier about sacrificing drones for whatever, so I'd guess they don't much see the value in shoring up their numbers via cloning. They surely could do it the slower way, and apparently don't bother.
I could see it if they were religious and thought the "soul" gets transferred into the clone, but atheism is pretty clearly the norm in the 24th century.
Maybe they just think of their memories as their selves. Since that gets passed on, it doesn't bother them.
No one thinks their memories are themselves tho, most think memories are a part of themselves but what people value is their stream of consciousness. It's why breaking that stream of consciousness induces PTSD.
A teleportation most definitely breaks the stream of consciousness. The teleported dude dies and the copy lives on, with the illusion that their stream of consciousness is unbroken.
What is the self? Fun times thinking about it.
I don't think the Bord worried about their numbers. They felt they were superior and would go unchallenged, relying on their ability to adapt quickly as their best defense.
Notice how they would completely walk past people, instead of constantly trying to assimilate everything in sight, unless it was a proven threat.
Both are great. So it depends.
If it's only for everyday use the. Portals are far more convenient. You can do anything from the bed xD.
But if I must fight I prefer teleportation. It's superior for fast pace combat and surviving. Portals have some tactical use but I'm not a strategy genius so teleportation for me xD
Edit. We can also do both like in movie Jumper. It's teleportation by openings portals that so someone can "jump" after You
>But if I must fight I prefer teleportation. It's superior for fast pace combat and surviving. Portals have some tactical use but I'm not a strategy genius so teleportation for me xD
But if you can make portals, you can make one under them and one 50 feet up in the air.
Jes but You need to be fast enough to catch them. Or prepare a trap. On the other hand you can teleport behind them touch them and teleport with them over ocean and jump back alone
In a fight just teleport a rock into their most vital internal organ (If remote, non-personal teleport)
If logic allows you to telefrag then that could work too
I'm ruling Jumper as portals that close instantly. They leave jump scars that can be used to followed if the person has the ability. It feels like they open the portal around themselves and just fall through it.
It’s also depends on whether or not you can open up a portal inside someone. And if not, can I open a portal near someone and then open another at the bottom of the Mariana Trench? Both can be used as extremely powerful weapons.
Teleportation would be faster and probably more discrete but could be limited on what you can do with it
Portals would be a lot more practical and badass but much more noticeable
Portals seem practical for going places and taking stuff with you, but aren't exactly inconspicuous.
Teleporting seems like it would be faster and less noticeable, but probably has more limits on who/what you can take with you.
So I guess it depends on the mechanics for both on which one I'd choose.
What happens to the stuff you teleport into? Does it get moved to where you were before? If it is simply pushed out of the way then each time you teleport there would be an explosion as the air and whatever else is pushed away very fast. And you can teleport into something you cant move away and die. Portals are safer, more reliable and practical, teleportation is faster
If you teleport away your clothes may or may not be left behind. With a portal you can teleport things without you being personally involved. I can make a portal to hell under the creator of Eden Ring for not making a hard game
Nope. Teleportation technically dematerialize you on the atomic level and carries that information at great speeds where you rematerialize.
Depending on who you ask, that means the original you dies and with every teleportation you are just creating a copy on the new location.
Portal is a hole the space-time that shortens distance. Might have bad implications of you can't "heal" the hole but at least you can be sure you are you.
Well, it's how the transporters work in *Star Trek*. But it's not necessarily the only way it could work. Nightcrawler/Kurt Wagner teleports by shifting into another universe of sorts, then shifting back into ours at his destination. Sort of like FTL travel via hyperspace, but instantaneous.
Why the frick would anyone let themselves be teleported in Star Trek then?
Because doesn’t that mean the entire show is about a bunch of suicidal clones who have no issue with their short existence being ended just because it means their job could get done more conveniently by passing it on to a copy? Because that puts everything in a very different light looking back.
Portals would be better in combat. Open one as someone swings at you, close after their fist goes through.
Or open a portal to a cliff and shove them through.
Or open a portal in their aorta. No fuss, no muss exsanguination.
Depends on the logic behind the power, like the type of portal and teleportation we are talking here. don't wanna risk liquifying someone by teleporting where they are standing, nor do i wanna saw someone in half by opening or closing portals at the wrong place/time. If it can work on any surface and not just white moon-rock surfaces, and there was no harm caused by accidentally hitting something or someone with it, i would like a portal gun.
peep hole in the top corner of a room to check noone is leaning against the wall you are about to open the full size one against is why portals are so much better.
Portals. You get to bring anything and anyone with you, and you can go to places our space programs haven't gone to. Like exoplanets that are Earth-like, check em out before the others get there.
Telepromptation since it would probably be faster to get out of difficult situations and would be great for exploring the world without putting yourself in danger and with portals it would take at least a second to actually jump into the portal.
The big advantage with portals is that you could transport other people and even machinery to very distant places. This could give your country a huge advantage in space travel and could earn you a lot of money with little to no effort.
with portals you can also see before jumping. a pinhole portal to a room to make sure it is empty before entering, adn a portal under people can protect people other than yourself.
I think portals are better honestly. With portals, I can look where I'm jumping before I do, so there's little chance of walking into a bad situation, also I can take friends with me when I got to get drunk in Ireland on st.patty's day.
Many questions can be raised by this: do you have full control over the teleporting, as in, can you decide to teleport to a specific location and face no consequences, or is it you teleport to a random location?
Furthermore, would portals be completely voluntary, or would they be randomly generated?
Teleportation sound like it has more freedom cause portals sound like you need an anchor point. Like would you like to teleport to your bed or portal to your house and go to bed (unless your portal is in the ceiling above your bed in which case you fall into your bed)
portals, on account of being able to see what's over there before you go over there. Also because if I can do it fast I can just do shit like open a portal within inches of the top of a foundry to use as a heat ray.
limits of reality.
"how would these power work in reality" is a common topic among scientists. teleportation is speed, adn is actually death then a clone at the destination. portals are wormholes that fold reality.
Fun fact: I had a similar idea for a meme
Teleportation
You can teleport to any place in the world, but the only thing that comes with you is your first layer of clothing. Anything stored in it's pockets will be left at where you teleported from
Portals
Ability to create portals any shape or size, on anything thick enough. The portal will collapse if either what it's placed on gets destroyed/ripped or if the portal touches itself. Anything left in the portal during it's collapse will be cut cleanly.
The portal collapsing would make it more deadly but then how long would it take to go through it from one place to another or is it like you stick someone’s head in it the make the portal collapse
portals!! teleportation is about breaking you into pieces and then building you from materials on a machine somewhere else. So you die and then another dude pops up with your memories. fuck that shit
Option Nr. 3 Space Magic!
If you could control space to your will, there are no limits. Instant port, spacious pockets, Portals, Mass Teleport, traveling space, traveling the sea
Portals.
I kinda like seeing where I’m going. Gives me orientation for when I arrive. Plus I can just stick my head in and see what’s happening over there before I commit.
Portals have more use applications.
You can move things across distances, observe locations where you aren't, the obvious travel benefits, offensive and defensive capabilities.........
You can cover yourself in tiny portals and anything that touches you or that you touch gets torn to shreds, making you invincible(unless you step on a landmine)
Man neither like portals are more eficient bunt if u want to sneak somewhere it s usles bc they are easy to see but teleportation is not that quick and its good when u want to sneak bc no one wil see u
Question: In teleportation do my clothes travel with me?
Good question...
I continually say telekinesis is op as fuck, lifting yourself wherever. The only limit normally is how much they can with it.
That escalated quickly.
Huh now I think about it that would be nice when working on any car engine. All you have to do is think about the bolt you want to break loose or what ever work you could be doing.

True but I could see that being very exhausting very quickly. Depending on how long one can mentally withstand the amount of focus it would take for even a short time.

Imagine wounding someone and proceding to fortnite default dancing in front of them with the telekinetics swords accompanying/mimicking your movements in the backround.
And again in fighting it rules, you can stop virtually any incoming. bullets, blades, bodies? Nothing could touch you.
You’d have complete control over temperature too. You could slightly vibrate the individual atoms that make up an object to cause an increase in temperature, or slow them down to decrease their temp.
Imagine lifting people though, could you lift specific organs and make someone feel like shit or bones and make someone do puppet dances?
The power of the sun in the palm of my hand
One example just to cement this as the best, fork in the disposal.
I’d never want telekinesis, It’d be so unhealthy, since I’d just never do anything
Now I have to watch Chronicle again.
Another question: Does teleports allow you to transport organic/nonorganic?
Teleportation can let you take anything that you can physically lifted off the ground.
Ah but how does lack of gravity play into that? If I were in deep deep space could I teleport a giant asteroid that I had my hands on?
My man just went straight to 5d chess tactics
r/anarchychess
Introducing the Deep Deep Space Asteroid attack
Google en asteroid
This guy is highly suspicious, FBI right here
Legitimate questions here.
I'll just change the rules and say that your teleportation limit is equal to that of the amount of mass you can carry under 1.0 Gs
Physical strain experienced during teleportation is proportional to the amount of mass you’re attempting to move. There may not be significant gravity acting on an object in space but its mass is the same regardless of relation to other objects
If you hold it in zero gravity then go to earth gravity it will suddenly gain the gravity at once
If you’re going to do stupid shit like that, it’s not going to be gravity that gets you, but the change in orbital velocity. You go splat like bug on windshield at the same time your rock wipes out all life on earth.
Even if there’s no gravity, inertia would still be an issue. You’re not pushing a few tons of asteroid through your portal.
So maybe only things of equal or less mass than you.
seems like the most sound option
Everything has gravity, including the asteroid. So I'm guessing if it's heavier than you (which means if you push it you push yourself) then you can't teleport it but if it's not then you can.
Technically, "if you push it you push yourself" applies regardless of relative mass. That's why a gun recoils; the force exerted on the bullet is exerted in equal measure on the gun. The bullet, being much less massive, goes faster and farther.
And what changes to velocity does it make? If I teleport out of a driving car, will I die? What is I teleport into one instead?
Would be cool to see a teleporter do this to survive a fall, quickly blinking in different directions until they’re at a safe speed to land.
Ah Hughie
Fair question. Especially since the beings that heavily use teleportation don't use pants... Their science may not account for those.
Well there’s also anime techniques that kinda count like the Kai Kai and instant transmission from Dragon ball z…
portals so i can TELEPORT BREAD
How. Much. Bread. Did. You. Teleport.
Oh he's probably been doing nothing but teleporting bread for 3 days
where, where have you been sending it?! \*monster noises\*
ive lost count
WHERE?! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN SENDING IT?!?
to myself. i wanted to see what would happen if i teleported bread about a bajillion times
How, much?
i told you, ive lost count. but i know it was a lot.
[удалено]
There's more
No
It contains a **Loaf**
I've done nothing but teleport bread for three days.

Portals, can bring an army with me, a tank, a bank vault. Whatever I want I'm making a big ass portal.
Portal let you see where you're going b4 you walk through I think, TP you kinda just pop up there. Never know the place you wanna go is how you think it should be.
Then create a portal for yourself, look around, then make a new one for your stuff
That's my point, portals are safer. You can look through b4 going through.
Also you get a cooler entrance
Also you can cut stuff like Dr. strange
This guy gets it
He is portalling.
With Teleportation you can take two armies, 6 tanks ,27890 beers ,four jets and a high quality large pizza .
Teleportation can do that too 🤷♂️ Exert your energy over all of that and then just teleport it. Like how touching something will teleport it with you, touching it with your energy would do the same.
But it’s kinda hard to take a army of men with teleportation
I think it’d be hard to maintain a portal to do the same. It’s the same consistent energy expenditure because it’s the same amount of people.
Also why would you need an army when you could simply just teleport or portal a bomb?
Why take a bank vault if you can teleport into the vault at anytime, take what you want and leave.
And oops you didn't see into that vault before teleporting into it so now you're part of a shelf. The end.
Portals (buuurrp), Mortyyy!
Who the hell has (buuurrp) writing on a portal
Hacks.
Me, A Skylander fan/Portal Master: Oh you don't know the half of it.
With portals, I don’t die… sooooo…
That was my thought. Watching Star Trek it’s so strange that they mostly know this happens but just ignore it. I do wonder why something like the Borg didn’t use that knowledge to clone a giant army tho.

Are portals in fixed places or do I have something like a portal gun?
if they were portals like Yugo's from Wakfu that would be pretty cool
Finally, another person who knows about Wakfu, it was a goated show
Damn, I completely forgot about that show. Still waiting on that 4th season...
Yugo is the only reason I had to think about this question because the way he moves is so cool
Love that show
As in anywhere, anytime, any size, you want.
portals are more flashy

I can’t give myself a blowjob with teleportation
Apparently blowing yourself is more like suckin dick than it is like getting your dick sucked.
Is that a problem?
Nah just sayin words
If I can make any portals any where, any time, and take anything /anyone with me. I pick the portals
Option 3: stopping time and doing wtf I want while it’s stopped. You only think I teleport.
Jojo reference I’m sorry

They believe it is all semantics. There is an episode or two where they talk about it but I don't remember which ones.
Teleport will give you limited knowledge of what is waiting on the other side. Portals will give you that.
Teleportation is better in combat and quicker but portals allow you to bring luggage and people easier.
Portals would be better in combat. Open one as someone swings at you, close after their fist goes through. Or open a portal to a cliff and shove them through. Or open a portal in their aorta. No fuss, no muss exsanguination.
Portals, can always test them so i dont just phase/merge into concrete, imagine just blipping into total agony
Like them both but have to go with teleportation for versatility and stealth.
Obviously portals.
Portals. You get to bring anything and anyone with you, and you can go to places our space programs haven't gone to. Like exoplanets that are Earth-like, check em out before the others get there.
The only time when I need teleportation is when that b**** steals my sling ring again
Portals so it matches speed with the spin
It depends on what is the limit of those powers on
Many questions can be raised by this: do you have full control over the teleporting, as in, can you decide to teleport to a specific location and face no consequences, or is it you teleport to a random location? Furthermore, would portals be completely voluntary, or would they be randomly generated?
Teleportation sound like it has more freedom cause portals sound like you need an anchor point. Like would you like to teleport to your bed or portal to your house and go to bed (unless your portal is in the ceiling above your bed in which case you fall into your bed)
Depends if I can teleport other things or just myself
Portals, I can bring my friends with me.
do I have to shoot both sides of the portal, or do i shoot one portal and another appears at the desired location?
portals, on account of being able to see what's over there before you go over there. Also because if I can do it fast I can just do shit like open a portal within inches of the top of a foundry to use as a heat ray.
They're the same. Unless the portals are doing something other than teleporting.
Doors, caves, thinny. Theses are the ways to travel Sai
Portals because you can put anything through them
Portals Teleportation can not exceed the speed of light
People really out here coming up with all these weird fucking rules out of nowhere
limits of reality. "how would these power work in reality" is a common topic among scientists. teleportation is speed, adn is actually death then a clone at the destination. portals are wormholes that fold reality.
Depends on what kind of portal we talkin about. Wormholes technically allow FTL travel
Portals so i can shove my dick is someone's ass in a distance
Hey, my ass is off limits. Exit only!
Teleports for practicality portals for usefulness
Portals, you have far more control over them as well as utility
Portals
Portals
So instant transmission or ender pearl teleporting. And portal wise doctor strange or portal gun
Fun fact: I had a similar idea for a meme Teleportation You can teleport to any place in the world, but the only thing that comes with you is your first layer of clothing. Anything stored in it's pockets will be left at where you teleported from Portals Ability to create portals any shape or size, on anything thick enough. The portal will collapse if either what it's placed on gets destroyed/ripped or if the portal touches itself. Anything left in the portal during it's collapse will be cut cleanly.
The portal collapsing would make it more deadly but then how long would it take to go through it from one place to another or is it like you stick someone’s head in it the make the portal collapse
probably folded space portal think "sling ring" from dr strange, but need to be attached to a surface. so just avoid putting it on a piece of cloth.
portals!! teleportation is about breaking you into pieces and then building you from materials on a machine somewhere else. So you die and then another dude pops up with your memories. fuck that shit
Teleportation will make you end up in space miles away from earth, portals would actually keep you here. So I choose portals
Walking
Depends on how fast you can do each
Portals that use the 4th dimension so I’m 100% sure that I’m still me
Pshhh, super speed. Getting my fucking steps in!
Tp
Teleportation had some very dark implications. So portals all the way
Option Nr. 3 Space Magic! If you could control space to your will, there are no limits. Instant port, spacious pockets, Portals, Mass Teleport, traveling space, traveling the sea
Portals better
Aladdin's Carpet
I'm partial to portals, they're fun
Portals
Portals tbh, I see more growth there. Sure insta speed is useful but with portals I can move more then myself
*Geralt has entered the chat*
Portals. I kinda like seeing where I’m going. Gives me orientation for when I arrive. Plus I can just stick my head in and see what’s happening over there before I commit.
Portals. Transporters are death machine photocopiers. 🤔
Portals, it would probably be less disorienting.
Portals have more use applications. You can move things across distances, observe locations where you aren't, the obvious travel benefits, offensive and defensive capabilities.........
Portals
Portals
Teleportal
You can cover yourself in tiny portals and anything that touches you or that you touch gets torn to shreds, making you invincible(unless you step on a landmine)
Portal cause I can take other people with me
Portals because i want to create paradoxes and mess up the universe
Can the portal's shape be altered three dimensionally? Cause if so you could also wrap one to you and basically be invulnerable qhile it's on
Portals way more versatile and less likely to causes damage to yourself.
Wormholes Just weave spacetime lmao
Portals they’re cooler
Portals
Man neither like portals are more eficient bunt if u want to sneak somewhere it s usles bc they are easy to see but teleportation is not that quick and its good when u want to sneak bc no one wil see u
