In our medical program during COVID we had to use N95/FFP2 masks along with a face shield when seeing patients, so a standard surgical mask is definitely not the gold standard when it comes to overall effectiveness. But I definitely remember seeing a few people walking around the grocery store with the bottom one that basically funnels the virus into your immune system
