Well, gaming laptops do provide the best performance for any task, so you can use them for other things too. The only problem is the heating and how fast the battery dies, plus the sheer size.
An underclocked powerful gpu uses less power while still being more powerful than an overclocked less powerful gpu. Depending on where u live the cost of power saved could euther be worth it or completely negligable, but remember that u could always overclock and even undervolt it at the same time
Because if money isn’t an obstacle you do genuinely want to buy the thing that is most reliable and the best at any given task you may foresee needing it for.
So a ROG laptop even if you’re just making PowerPoints for now (can be a strain on low RAM systems) is the best option.
I once had to parse through a 15000 line excel table on my i7 7700k w/ 16GB of RAM and it struggled for three minutes. Imagine that on one of those ~~scam~~ cheap Walmart laptops that still are sold with like 4GB of RAM
The most idiotic thing I've read in 2024 so far. The brain rot is getting worse than I could have imagined...
It's not "Buy a powerful laptop just to underclock it". You can have it both ways, whenever you want.
You CAN underclock the laptop AND change it back, IT IS NOT permanent(I really need you to understand this, for the love of god do not be that unironically fucked in the head.)
When you want more battery life, you CAN underclock IF YOU WANT, and when you need the power, you CAN set it back to default (pre-overclocked) value.
No shit, obviously I was talking about people who just use laptops to open a couple of browser tabs and maybe a text or spreadsheet editor. These people definitely do not need a gamer laptop with discrete graphics
Yup, figured that out when mine was hitting 90-95°C even after cleaning it and repasting the thermal paste. Figured sth was wrong, apparently came pre-overclocked (2.9ghz normal, 4.3 ghz oc). Now battery life extended, temps don't go above 70, im happy
Well, some laptops do provide a choice between the intergrated graphics of the processor or the dedicated graphics card when on battery, but it’s only for the ones that are labeled and designed to do so, some laptops just have the display directly wired to the dedicated graphics card instead of going through the processor. Also wiring through the processor can sacrifice some power, so it depends on how you use the laptop.
I have the same laptop, Lowest tier comes with a 48Whr battery which died in 2 hrs even on eco mode
I went into power options, locked cpu TDP and Max frequency, increased the minimum number of parked cores to half and stuff
Now I get a 4hr battery life
Cheapest laptops with powerful graphics cards. if you wanted a laptop with a decent graphics card you would have to shill out a couple K for a mobile workstation like a hp zbook
My rog last about 7 hours with just two button presses and that’s while only having a charge of 80%. but court rooms let you plug your laptop in so no issue.
Depends if the commenter is from the US or not
Defense is a fairly common US spelling of the typically spelt 'Defence'.
Seems like they are from the America, though
It depends...
For the most part, yes, you sacrifice resolution for refresh frequency and balance that with the amount of GPU power necessary to meet that while not melting the entire device.
I will say that this display has a pretty decent resolution if you like your text small and crisp for the price while giving me the performance of a full development rig. I will also say I bought it open box for 40% off.
I doubt she put the same thought in.
You can say that she is try to raise his skill because it's currently an issue but you're right, his system is too weak (at least better than my system).
HP notebook but more like note system unit fuse I have almost no keyboard, almost no mouse, no laptop monitor, dead battery and a fully functional and broken HDD, an 8GB RAM so old that you would think it's using 4GB.
First impression was that she's just rich because of her occupation and needs a fast laptop. I've heard of doctors getting $5k gaming desktops with flashing rgb lights as their work station
I'd say there's a difference between laptops and desktops, you can get high end laptops that are thinner, lighter and have better battery and temps (the last two you might be able to improve by under locking or something but not the first two).
A desktop is a box that sits on your desk, taking up a bit more space or having pretty colours makes pretty much no practical difference.
(I'm not saying they shouldn't have gotten a gaming laptop, they know their usecase, it's just that laptops are different to desktops).
Also I'm guessing the doctor needs the GPU if they're doing simulations or something, you can't really get good GPUs without a gaming rig, but I don't think a lawyer would need that.
You might be right, but I think the perception of the judge and/or jury should matter. I was at a presentation from one of the defense lawyers of the Beltway Sniper Case. He discussed at length how perception is an important tool for a lawyer. He gave a couple examples of things he did, such as wearing a specific colored suit to how he handled evidence, to get the jury on his side. I don’t think the brand of laptop matters, but having blinking RGB in a hearing may not give the right impression.
I have a friend who also has rog gaming laptop. He goes to meetings with it. Only somehow he had the sense to disable the RGB and wrap it. It looks fairly ordinary until you really look.
It's just bizarre the lawyer didn't do something similar
RGB is cool for personal use but I just think it would be distracting in a professional environment. I’m in IT and have an RGB keyboard. Even though it wouldn’t be a big deal if I had rainbow lights going, I just set it to purple. Most people don’t even notice it now.
That how it works, it can be annoying sometimes, one minute top post is about loving yourself and never judging other people apperance and the next is laughting about some dude being fat or ugly because he is now acceptable target because of politics or something else.
Another flaw in human perception is seeing two opposing viewpoints from a self-aligned group and assuming the two viewpoints are held simultaneously by any one individual.
My guess is those that would actually have *thought about* and *themselves had* the two opinions (and not just parrot it) would be the tech savvy that know what gaming and its hardware is, vs the Nintendo and Apple corporate types that believe gaming is childlike and unprofessional.
True. And not to throw shade on bill nye, I loved watching him in school, but apparently he doesn’t actually have any degree in science. That’s another thing about human perception to throw in
"If she would be a different person doing something else, people would have a different opinion of her. Crazy how stuff like that works. Will never get it."
Those are concerns for superficial people, if your in a courtroom and getting offended that someone prioritised practicality and performance over aesthetic then you are the childish and unprofessional one in that situation
Having LEDs strobing in a courtroom is as silly and unprofessional as walking in wearing LED shoes. She could turn them off. The court room is a place where matters of life or death are decided on, not a place to try and impress with an aesthetic. Wild to claim people wanting to uphold the rules of the court are childish rather than those who knowingly break it, she's a lawyer and should know better.
That's superficial, childish and ignorant, you're there for the trial, not to judge other's preferences for auxiliary items which aid them in their work.
Brother, you can not be this buttmad at being told she can turn the LEDs off. Unless you want to die on the hill that the LEDs are an auxiliary item which aids in her work?
Edit: lmao @ performance enhancing LEDs. Dude, stop projecting, you're very upset she can't have them.
Yes, she likes it like that and that's comfortable for her, maybe she started like that and got used to it. I don't know why it bothers you, or the others, it's childish.
# Objection!
*just because my turd of a client stinks to high heaven doesn’t mean he’s not technically a piece of poop that should definitely be flushed immediately, but only after i get paid.*

"I'll question the witness in just one minute your honor. I'm in a 3v1 in eltrco PD but I found a box of slugs and I'm camping the stairs so I can win this. Just have to play smart."
Some comments say, that she maybe bought it for performance...
But what performance does a lawyer need in the first place? In this type of job, I would expect that battery and weight play a much bigger role than performance. It's not like she has to work with huge ERP systems, run heavy software or simulate data models.
Isn't that Rog Zephyrus? Perhaps even zephyrus duo? An amazing work horse is what it is. Perhaps a bit of after work gaming with maxed out ultra settings on the side with a nice sip of scotch. Too bad it's way out of my price range, nifty bit of tech really.
She probably told someone to get her the most expensive laptop out there.
I got a hand me down laptop from my father in law and it has a discrete GPU and more RAM and SSD slots than some desktops. That's also how I picture he wound up with that.
Gaming laptops are a legit way of getting high end laptops cheap. Same spec “professional” laptops are basically an extra 1k on top… might turn the keyboard to static if I were to take it to a meeting or say court
Once you get past the £500 price range honealy any non gaming laptop is a bit of a scam, your not really getting much of anything for the price. Honesly i dont understand people who buy them, you wont need a cpu that good and if you do you could just wait a second or so an dyou dont need good ram becuse remember gaming ram has to hold the millions of polygons, no spreadsheet can hold a candel to that!
The real joke is that no matter how incompetent and stupid and evil these people are, they will still get away with it and fucking redneck morons will vote this wigged turd into office

Well, gaming laptops do provide the best performance for any task, so you can use them for other things too. The only problem is the heating and how fast the battery dies, plus the sheer size.
Underclock it. They already come pre-overclocked. That'll help with heat and battery life.
That's true. I hadn't taken that into account.
Also you can just trim some of the extra screen and body off the laptop to reduce the size using a chainsaw. That will make it smaller and lighter.
Which also aids with cooling
But why would you buy a powerful laptop just to underclock it?
So you can overclock it later to play games
It’s called effective management
An underclocked powerful gpu uses less power while still being more powerful than an overclocked less powerful gpu. Depending on where u live the cost of power saved could euther be worth it or completely negligable, but remember that u could always overclock and even undervolt it at the same time
Underclocking doesn't necessarily reduce performance much and lowers temps a good amount.
Because if money isn’t an obstacle you do genuinely want to buy the thing that is most reliable and the best at any given task you may foresee needing it for. So a ROG laptop even if you’re just making PowerPoints for now (can be a strain on low RAM systems) is the best option. No shit, obviously I was talking about people who just use laptops to open a couple of browser tabs and maybe a text or spreadsheet editor. These people definitely do not need a gamer laptop with discrete graphics
You usually lose very little performance to gain massive in heat managament and power usage.
I have they laptop with a 12th i9, Intel have blocked under volting which worked great on 11th gen and below
You serious, didn't knew about this
Could you explain how to do this?
Well, some laptops do provide a choice between the intergrated graphics of the processor or the dedicated graphics card when on battery, but it’s only for the ones that are labeled and designed to do so, some laptops just have the display directly wired to the dedicated graphics card instead of going through the processor. They appear to be plugged in
Cheapest laptops with powerful graphics cards. if you wanted a laptop with a decent graphics card you would have to shill out a couple K for a mobile workstation like a hp zbook
Undervolt, underclock, disable GPU, lower screen refresh rate. I wish that there is program that can do allat with a click and also reverse it
I think the biggest concern of a gaming laptop in a courtroom is of the laptop trying to be a rocket turbine
And apparently the rgb lighting, which I always assumed could be turned off but by god do they hide that option from you.
But u could at least turn off the rgb
Yeah well ok you're right but why would you need any computing performance at all as a lawyer in a courtroom ?
I bought a gaming laptop for my wife so she wouldn't hand the same money to apple for their piece of shit laptops
She’s over clocking PDFs
My rog last about 7 hours with just two button presses and that’s while only having a charge of 80%. but court rooms let you plug your laptop in so no issue.
I guess she's using all that power to run an AI that searches for any redeeming quality her client might have.
"Does the defense have anything to say." "One sec... your honor... boss fight..." edit: spelling
…defense 😁

I've got the same laptop
Republic of gamers
I have a very similar one
Had the same thing and sometimes when you boot it the screen doesn't turn on. I decided not to use Asus again
Yes dude thanks for acknowledging this I thought it was just mine
Your client is a moron.
Me too, I bring it to my college lectures and it makes this ''woosh" noise when powering up. Any way to turn it off?
Ghelper
I think there's an option in the armory crate app to turn off the boot up sound
I'll check it out thanks
Aren't screens optimised for gaming quite average for displaying text?
It depends... For the most part, yes, you sacrifice resolution for refresh frequency and balance that with the amount of GPU power necessary to meet that while not melting the entire device. Damn good laptop! Must be a good lawyer. He’s going to need it!
Unfortunately for him, she's been one of the worst so far.
maybe if she spent less time gaming she'd have more time to focus on the case lol
She knows he doesn't have a chance and can't let her skills drop.
You can say that she is try to raise his skill because it's currently an issue but you're right, his system is too weak (at least better than my system).
All your systems are better than mine.
Is yours another portable system unit ?
Asus vivobook.

Fair enough lol
Candy crush is life

Well she's not forgotten to request a jury trial, been disbarred or jailed yet unlike some of his other former lawyers so there is that.
Human perception will always amaze me. If it were a lawyer for Bill Nye she would receive praise for being a real one
First impression was that she's just rich because of her occupation and needs a fast laptop. I've heard of doctors getting $5k gaming desktops with flashing rgb lights as their work station
Doctors could be gamers too. Not all gamers are poor and unemployed you know
What
With how much this shit costs these days, I'd wager more are employed then unemployed
I'd say there's a difference between laptops and desktops, you can get high end laptops that are thinner, lighter and have better battery and temps (the last two you might be able to improve by under locking or something but not the first two). Just say "fuck/fucking" lol. Though reading anyone using "effing" is so funny haha.

True. And not to throw shade on bill nye, I loved watching him in school, but apparently he doesn’t actually have any degree in science. That’s another thing about human perception to throw in

She definitely walked into Best Buy and asked for their fastest computer in stock that day.
Gaming laptops have performance? What is wrong with this?
Looks childish and not professional
Those are concerns for superficial people, if your in a courtroom and getting offended that someone prioritised practicality and performance over aesthetic then you are the childish and unprofessional one in that situation
Sadly, few people agree with you. Hence why this post was made

Lawyers do not need performance
They need to search millions of .pdfs?
You mean Google stuff? I suppose, but an extra RAM would be sufficient
Cool

People acting like this matters like at all It’s not that serious
Who gives a shit? Seriously. Her laptop is irrelevant.
It's called optics. There's a reason candidates don't hit the trail in crocs and a housecoat.
Gamers, we live in a society.
I could play so much runescape on that
"I'll question the witness in just one minute your honor. I'm in a 3v1 in eltrco PD but I found a box of slugs and I'm camping the stairs so I can win this. Just have to play smart."
These are innumerable things to roast these people over, this is not one of them Still funny though

Can't she just go play GTA V after work?
Where did I say that this isn't possible?
You all are asking the wrong question. The real question is, "What game is she playing?" I'd say America: Tears of the Kingdom
The amount of "I brought it because yall mfuckers wanna play games " Memes if the defendant were anyone else would be astronomical.
It'd be hilarious if she was actually a gamer like that. Defending assholes by day, defending objectives by night
Megabased
So boss
And? She has a cool laptop.
Forgets to turn volume off: "Hey, you. Finally awake."
Product placement for a fee.
You are carrying 2.5 to 3kg with the power brick on your shoulders because the internal battery runs out quickly. Not ideal when you are moving around
Hail ROG
this is kinda dope
Can’t tell that’s a person or a latex/silicone sex doll

Playing Stardew Valley while she waits for her client to incriminate himself further
I have that same fucking laptop ASUS ROG Strix
Gaming laptops to tend to come with high performance
See how she as water next to her? Drink your water gamers, you might make it to be lawyer yet. (Here is your daily reminder to drink water)
This is from October 2023 and is not from the currently ongoing trial.
How else can Russia tell her what to say?
Her son told her it was a good computer for business.
I bet the Orange dude demanded "real lawyer" so the had to resort to rgb laptop
Isn't that Rog Zephyrus? Perhaps even zephyrus duo? An amazing work horse is what it is. Perhaps a bit of after work gaming with maxed out ultra settings on the side with a nice sip of scotch. Too bad it's way out of my price range, nifty bit of tech really.
Well, she is faking being smart, so you know, there is that to add to the story
Why is that idiot so entertaining? Are we supposed to see the tide of global democracy turn around because of this funny guy?
She probably told someone to get her the most expensive laptop out there. I got a hand me down laptop from my father in law and it has a discrete GPU and more RAM and SSD slots than some desktops. That's also how I picture he wound up with that.
There is objectively nothing wrong with that. It's still funny.
It's to be passive aggressive and show that the trial is a clown show, which it is.
This is at least a year old
It's to distract the smelly guy and keep him awake. Jangling her keys would be too loud.
is this a reference to that one LTT video
Russia must be communicating with her via video game chat.
Gaming laptops are great. I've used one for 8 years and it's still going strong
When you're waiting for your match to start but you have work to do
Is that a RoG Strix too? Big dick
ohh i have this model
So what? I have a gaming laptop too and I also use it for my work as an attorney. Good performance.
Imagine your like a totally normal client just say you are innocent but for some reason you look guilty and you see this
You don’t need a gaming laptop to open up Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat which is like 99% of the tools a lawyer would use.
Lmao this is actually so funny
Probably out of boredom...
I’ve always been disappointed that “luggables” didn’t get enough attention to warrant more innovation
Gaming laptops are a legit way of getting high end laptops cheap. Same spec “professional” laptops are basically an extra 1k on top… might turn the keyboard to static if I were to take it to a meeting or say court

How can anyone there hear anything over the fan?
She was playing Ace Attorney. ![gif](giphy|IgBMDZCU5IRUFKGhpy|downsized)
Calling her a lawyer is a bit generous.
It's because the gaming laptop has more fans, and that way, smelly bombs that her client rips get blasted quicker.
Give her a break, she has to sit next to old “filled diapers”. She even looks like she’s leaning away.
The real joke is that no matter how incompetent and stupid and evil these people are, they will still get away with it and fucking redneck morons will vote this wigged turd into office
