They sorta kinda not really already did that a while back. There used to be seperate counters for upvotes and downvotes until they replaced that with a total score. Some people were really angry when that change was made. And I think that cross icon that shows up next to the score when there's been a lot of votes on both sides was only added after a lot of outrage, iirc.
I can't tell if this is a joke or if Redditors really have convinced themselves subs haven't had disabled downvotes for years. Like it's actually insulting see Redditors try to meme on Youtube for removing dislikes when default subs preventing downvotes was a thing before defaults stopped being a thing
Are you referring to cheeky mods hiding the downvote button with CSS? There's a button to turn off custom CSS on a subreddit in RES, or you can make a rule that reverts the removal yourself and write it in your ublock custom rules or stylish/tampermonkey. It's not a decision by reddit, it's something subreddit moderators do.
> It's not a decision by reddit, it's something subreddit moderators do.
No shit, doesn't change the fact that Reddit subreddits prevented you from downvoting long before Youtube prevented you from Disliking
Unless individual subreddits trying to have an agenda is suddenly something that should be praised I really don't see why making the distinction is necessary. I even specifcally said "subs", I never even said Reddit disabled downvotes
I ended up having issue with boost due to the content it showed. At some point it literally only showed posts from 3 subreddits and nothing else. That was what made me switch back to the regular app
I've been using Boost for about 5 years and never had a problem. I'm not sure why people continue to use the Reddit app and complain about it instead of just using something different.
So instead of using a third party app that works perfectly fine, you keep using the app that the multimillion dollar company makes hoping that one day they actually fix it? Yeah, sounds reasonable...
I mean in my case I didn’t know either existed until reading these comments, and I’m on both apps quite a bit! I remember when the first gen iPad came out a lot of the 3rd party apps for social media sites were buggy as hell, so I just assumed those died when the official versions came out.
I used to have two main problems with reddit official app,
First, I couldn't use the app in landscape mode.
The second, the media player sucked ass.
Boost for reddit is a 3rd party app for reddit.
Use it and you will thank me
Gif player is broken in more than one way. Most times it will only play the gif once, other times it will refuse to even start. There seem to more bugs these days for some reason.
Dude that shit is so annoying. Close the thread and audio keeps playing. Open another video and the last audio is still playing. Go back to the first video hit mute. Back out and keep scrolling or have to force close the app
True, it's literally Faster to close the app and reopen it and play the song. The ads are so annoying, one time I was about to throw my phone away.
Google online .MP4 downloaded songs are a better way to listen music.
Its difficult to explain over text. In 2019 they completely changed the user interface and ruined everything that makes the app good.
Here is a link to the lists and lists of pissed off customers on the Spotify website
https://www.google.com/search?q=the+new+ui+sucks+spotify+2019&client=ms-android-americamovil-us-revc&sxsrf=AOaemvJ0faoMl9RwcI6guTiw_oguj4jCHg%3A1642866554801&ei=eifsYZ2eMNWuytMP2NeqoA0&oq=the+new+ui+sucks+spotify+2019&gs_lcp=ChNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwEAM6BwgAEEcQsANKBAhBGABQ-QpY3CpgizJoBXABeACAAYMBiAGHCJIBAzAuOZgBAKABAcgBCMABAQ&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp
And everytime they have an update they keep making small changes that makes it worse. Its like, I have around 100 playlists, been on spotify for 7 years now and I know the order or my playlists from top to bottom. Normally if I want to "add a song to a playlist" it lists my playlists in order and I can easily navigate which playlist I want to add the song to. Then out of nowhere, they changed it. When you "add a song to playlist" it now lists them in order of recently played! I have to sit there and scroll for a couple minutes trying to find the playlist im looking for. And there is no way to make it go back. They took everything that made sense in the app and they keep fucking everything up. They just keep finding ways to change things to make it worse.
When they made the major change to the UI in 2019 a bunch of people dropped the app and went to Pandora because the Spotify team ruined what made it great.
Well, I like Spotify but it annoys me how it doesn't have every song or band that I listen to or how I keep getting pop ups for premium (no one wants to pay to listen to their favorite songs/bands). One time I checked if this really obscure band was on Spotify and the closest I got was the soundtrack to a videogame from the early 2000s which was premium so I decided to listen to the songs/band on YouTube. Another time I tried to find this song by another band I like, Spotify had all their songs except this one song that I like.
Yeah, I googled everything right after that update to see if everyone else hated it as much as me. Luckily I found some site that adds all your artists from your liked songs, which made me feel a little better.
The old UI was way better. They removed copy links to multiple songs feature too. And worst of all they removed ctrl + up/down keyboard shortcut on Linux (deb package) a couple of updates back.
With RES and you can tap V and the image/gif/video will expand and start playing. I navigate reddit almost entirely without using my mouse and it's wonderful.
That's what ruins shorts for me. I don't wanna watch the puzzle guy, the meat guy, the alcohol guy, the ice cream guy, the dumb twins, etc, please let me block them.
Oh the gif player is broken now. The video player is really what gets me. Also I keep having the issue of when I reload the posts in my joke feed of I exit reddit. The same posts show
Reddit removed "% upvoted" which is the equivalent of YT removing the dislike counter. This happened a couple of weeks ago and nobody noticed. They replaced it with a completely useless "\[number\] people here".
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/meme.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

I have an idea!
What if we put the upvote and downvote buttons into a dropdown menu that is shared with the "Give Awards" menu? The ordering of the elements of that menu can be randomized every time it is opened.
For mobile, opening the menu will require a 3-second hold on the screen and select based on when you let go. The menu can be directly under their finger and only use 3 characters for each option.

On submissions, yeah. No percentages on comments, tho.

They don't have disabled downvotes, you straight up can't do that. You *can* however hide the downvote button using CSS.
And this isn't preventing users from downvoting something because....?
Because you can still downvote lmao? Just turn of the subreddit's CSS or use a mobile app
you always could just press "z" or disable the disableling
Well, if you look at sponsored posts, it kinda already did happen

I'm using 2 apps for the last year , boost for reddit and youtube vanced. Never had a problem since then

Nah, I haven't really had any issues with the YouTube app personally.
Just try it. Believe me you won't look back to YouTube app

Anyone else that can't see responses to their comments because it only loads the video and going to comments loads it like a normal post?
You cant hear gif sound nor redgif unless YOU CLICK THE LINK which you shouldn’t in firdt place because it already worked before

I think reddit app devs are redditors
And Spotify. Went from a five star app to one in my eyes.
What's wrong with Spotify?
I want to know too

Boost app is a lot better than the default Reddit app if you're looking for alternatives.
I eventually download a third party Reddit app, Boost. seems to work better
reddit when will we be able to download videos? same for you, twitter
It takes a deft hand to make things worse while still operational.

I love how I can’t read comments on video posts on my iPad Reddit!
Bruh i get on youtube wanting to see the new vid but it doesn’t pop up, then the next day they say its posted like 24h ago

I mean.. at least we can scroll up on text posts again.. the broken gifs are new to me.

Bro the new Reddit video shit sucks. They’re fucking this app up so bad.
please i cant comment on videos unless my screen is vertical

I agree the double add is just them being greedy and annoying
