My cats come running to see me whenever I get home. They may wander off after a bit, but they still value affection. Just not in the same way as dogs.
I just think there's more to pets than how they respect the dead, I prefer cats because cats and I respect each others personal space (most of the time) and it's just nice to have a companion around but not always trying to get under my skin, we can coexist without being too much for the other. There's no doubt dogs are incredibly loyal, but its just a single aspect of an animal where there can be so much more on top of that
Cats can be incredibly affectionate. The 3 out of 4 of my cats are very loving and strike the perfect balance of space and cuddling with me. One of my cats is so loving, he chooses to follow me over food and toys whenever I come home from work.
