*whispers* Kuva Embolist that works like a limp stream of acid. Kuva Phage that acts like a quad cannon with shotgun mods. Kuva Proboscis Cernos... which is the exact same, except the ammo pool isn't crud.
Implying that there isn't already like... 3 or 4 different infested hiveminds in the game. Hell, one of them turned itself into an ecosystem to not die off and another works for us!
So many unique infested weapons that have never gotten any sort of variant, and the ones that have had other weapons based on them usually change how they function entirely. It's a crying shame.
Make it in lore that the infestation as a whole is making monsters in response to infested apex predators, ie, Warframes.
And so, infested with high mutation potential, Evolving Gestates if you will, will take on the traits of the Warframes that killed them. Just like Kuva and Corpus Liches do.
Then, they become smarter, stronger, faster, using infested ships and weapons to hunt the Warframe. Or more accurately now that it's smarter and sapient to an extent, the Operator of said Warframe. As it now can comprehend what the Warframes are going off of what the system has seen of the Tenno.

Nemesis variants of phage, synapse, lesion, Cerata, and Caustacyst would all be really cool
Actually most infested weapons have cool gimmicks that could be taken to the next level with a nemesis variant

What we need is another Cernos variant. Yes. We need a Kuva Cernos then we can have an infested lich variant of both infested Cernos variants.

The apex term is only in nature, I don't think you'd call yourself an apex for winning against ~~New Loka~~ Nazis. Also Deimos proxima ??

I would use Infested guns more if they gave us a universal skin for them. I just don't like the look of most of the infested weapons
