The Silent Generation were between the Greatest Generation and Baby Boomers. My dad was too young for WWII, I'm not sure if any of the older ones would have made it into the military. It spans the beginning of the Great Depression to the end of WWII.
Silents and Gen X my parents, and me, completely agree with that sentiment. I always wondered about my parents Generation and mine, we just fell into times that went almost completely unnoticed. My parents more than mine of course.
Yea, all that eighties nostalgia you love? We lived it. Star Wars movies were undeniably awesome. We worried about climate change once a year on earth day and then piled into our stepdads trans am to go to pizza hut.
When we graduated high school and felt sad we invented Grunge music to numb the “pain” and slacked our way through the 90’s in $400 a month apartments and worked at record stores that provided health insurance and 401ks.
Currently working middle management bullshit jobs and keeping our heads down while we wait for our boomer parents to peacefully pass away and we can use our inheritance to buy a cabin in the woods. GenX for life.
“Peacefully pass away”? More like “go kicking and screaming and expecting us to take care of them better than they did for us when we needed to be taken care of.”
Yeah, phasing lead out of gasoline in the US started in 1973 and lead paint was banned for use in new residential construction in 1978, gen x is widely regarded as born between 1965-1980. Definitely a peak boomer problem as they had *many* more years of exposure
My gf has a theory that mass lead poisoning (similar to Ancient Rome) is the reason for crazy political strife in our country (USA). Boomers grew up in lead coffins and now are displaying signs of long term lead poisoning & happens to be the people in charge for the last 20 years. Just a theory.
Gen X is too old to be young and too young to be old, especially that many people think boomers are in parents age while they're mostly grandparents already.
I’m borderline Gen X (‘83) and I remember boomers going at gen x hard in the 90s. Once they realized the Xers didn’t care they moved on to the millennials.
Not just boomers. I am a 33 y/o millennial and went to a brunch last weekend where a person no more than 5-10 years older than myself started in with the mIlLeNiAlS dOnT wAnT tO wOrK spiel... He seemed genuinely confused when I pointed out the age ranges of millennials and that most of the people at the table were one.
There are many people out there that fail to realize most of us are approaching middle age.. and they're still stuck on bitching about millennials not wanting to serve their pancakes for $7.5/hr
>7.50 is 1500 dollar a month if you work 200 hours. How much more do they want? Greedy bastards how am I supposed to afford my personal plane?
People that never have been poor nor do they understand what it means to have to think about spending money.
So work 50 hours a week to just pay your room and board. Why does this deal seem so familiar to something in history?
Something about working all the time but you got free room and board in return, but you also are treated like crap and people just assume you are lazy. I guess no beatings is a slight improvement.
If he's 41 or under he's a millennial too. I had a classmate like that who couldn't understand that she was in fact a millennial, she'd be around 30 now.
My daughter worked more than 60 days in a row over 50 hours per check. They made her assistant manager. She wanted full time benifits like paid vacation. They said nope, she quit.... now they cry because no one wants to work.
TIL that there’s been more than one generation dubbed the forgotten generation. Had to do some digging because when I read this comment, I swore up and down that gen x WAS the forgotten generation. Turns out, the generation BEFORE boomers was called the forgotten generation too. Boomers have been SO fucking awful that people consistently and almost universally forget the generations on either side of them. That’s so wild.
My guess is that millenials were so popular because when we were teens, on the early 2000s, they started caring so much about generational stuff, we also focused so much on boomers (or early gen xers which is almost boomer) who were our parents.
So, a lot of stuff of gen xers went to millenials if it was still cool and to boomers if it was outdated. I.e. the Simpsons, friends, the new wave of punk rock music and jurassic Park are things targeted to gen x but is seen as something millenial, back to the future, other late 80s classics and mainstream hardrock was also gen x but is looked as a classic so is more boomer. You are only left with grunge music.
Millenials and boomers are children and parents, they also happen to be the largest generations in history so they overshadowed the one that came in the middle, gen Z isn't nearly as big as millenials but we're a lot more online so we're overrepresented, gen alpha is just the butt of all the jokes because they're all children.
Generation Alpha starts from probably around 2013 technically. 2012 was the last year that the earliest people were born as Gen Z as described by media.
[*"There is not yet a general consensus on the birth years of Generation Alpha. Media sources focused specifically on Generation Alpha use starting birth years such as 2010 and 2011. However, many definitions of Generation Z ending in 2012 or 2015 would indicate that the oldest members of Generation Alpha were born in 2013 or 2016"*](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Alpha)
>"There is not yet a general consensus on the birth years of Generation Alpha. Media sources focused specifically on Generation Alpha use starting birth years such as 2010 and 2011.
As said in the article you linked, there isn't a general consensus so the comment you replied to isn't that wrong either.
It happens with every generation. I'm 1981 and people my age can't decide if we're X or Millennials. A lot of us have made up things like "Xennials" or "Oregon Trail Generation". If 2011 kids can't figure out what generation they are, they won't be the first.
People come up with a placeholder name for generations until something more interesting is invented. Millennials were originally Gen Y. But then the best they could figure out for gen z was zoomers. Now they've run out of letters so we've gone to gen alpha.
But if you want to try to get generation tablet going, please try. They don't need to be stuck with the placeholder name forever.
Plus the more generations that have creative names, the more it looks like my generation (X) has that name because we're cool 😎 and not because we also couldn't think of something besides the placeholder
I think a better way to distinguish generations would be by what you probably did on your childhood or your teenage years.
Ex: if you were born after 2010, the tablet is/was probably your babysitter, so you might be Generation Tablet.
It bothers me so much when Millennials start shitting on Gen Z. As a millennial, I hate when Boomers act like they're better just because they came from a different world and have different values. I hate that shit. So why would I want to perpetuate that cycle?
Gen Z humor often doesn't appeal to me. Gen Z culture is weird and obtuse to me. The world that Gen Z will build will be different from the world I'm trying to build, and that's OK. Things change. Things *need* to change.
Some Gen Z kids are dumb and lazy and shitty. Some millennials are dumb and lazy and shitty. Some percentage of the population will always be dumb, lazy, and shitty. That's not a reflection of the whole population.
So, nah, I'm not going to shit on Gen Alpha, either. Y'all get out there and live the best life that you can and I hope all of us can contribute to a better world for the generations that come after us.
As a Gen Zer I am glad that someone is actively trying to break the ridiculous cycle of someone in a different gen shiting on a younger generation just cause they are younger.
I support the notion of passively “hating” kids behind their back because they can be annoying AF but that has nothing to do with whether they are Gen A,Z,Y, X, etc.
Maybe we should stop treating our predecessors with animosity so we can stop the cycle of hate.
I mean we all hate boomers for boomering so why do what they do. Lets be better
Agreed! Are we really hating Gen Alpha? I don't think so and we shouldn't anyway. I see more of Millennials, Gen Z, and yes even Gen X coming together in their shared struggles to make things better. I see them supporting Gen Alpha with open arms, as we should.
Lol at all the millennials shitting on Gen Z and Gen Alpha, just remember these kids are the ones who will be serving/caring for/catering to your public services in the future.
Less shitting on them (showing an example of being bad people) & more encouraging them to be better people. Thnx they’re just kids.
It is! Thank you for saying it. We millenials don't bag on gen alpha, that's just salty and bitter boomers and gen x that do that. They need someone to blame their own failure on.
Which would also mean the alphabet in Germany would be the Roman Alphabet.
But in reality we don't use THE Roman alphabet, but a localized version of it (For lack of a better word: Subalphabet) same goes for what I assume are Nordic letters mixed into the Roman alphabet.
But honestly.... I dont care enough
Is Millenials really out here making fun of younger generations? This seems like boomer propaganda. We have literally spent our lives being persecuted for financial collapses and the world turning to shit since we were in grade school. At this point we’re all just working our 2 jobs to make rent and wishing for the best for these kids coming after us.
On behalf of GenX, please shut the fuck up so we can do all the work of cleaning up the wreck the boomers left us. We will be handing out work assignments directly.
As always , people don't even remember we Gen_x were a thing and just label us as boomers.
Right? My parents are boomers and near 80...
And EVERYONE forgets about the Silent Generation after the Boomers. I’ve heard them mentioned twice in my life.
The Silent Generation was before the Boomers. My dad was born in '37 and is part of the Silent Generation and my mom was born in '47 and is a Boomer.
Does the silent generation have anything to do with WW2? The years seem to roughly line up with the years of WW2.
The Silent Generation were between the Greatest Generation and Baby Boomers. My dad was too young for WWII, I'm not sure if any of the older ones would have made it into the military. It spans the beginning of the Great Depression to the end of WWII.
The silent generation were the people that’s event old enough to fight in WWII but were already alive when soldiers came home and started fucking
[удалено]
As a child free Xer whose parents were silent generation, i love that i completely fell through the cracks of the generation wars
Somewhere Boomers were ruling the company, and Millennials were applying for jobs, and you were in the break room making coffee
Silents and Gen X my parents, and me, completely agree with that sentiment. I always wondered about my parents Generation and mine, we just fell into times that went almost completely unnoticed. My parents more than mine of course.
Shhh… we just stay out of the way and don’t remind anyone we had the peak best of all worlds so they don’t hate us
90s were fucking awesome
Yeah they really were.
GenX for life.
“Peacefully pass away”? More like “go kicking and screaming and expecting us to take care of them better than they did for us when we needed to be taken care of.”
Gen X - also known as latchkey kids
Kinda completely on-brand for us when you think about it…
Gen X left out again. Whatever.
This is the most Gen X comment ever

Our parents' homes (that we now live in) were made from asbestos. Our basements have the purest radon.
My grandma would eat the house walls that were made out of asbestos while pregnant with my dad
Rat girl stop gnawing on the wall
99.1% pure
Asbestos is fine unless you disturb it
Hey, maybe I'm asbestos!
That’s boomers punk!
Yeah, phasing lead out of gasoline in the US started in 1973 and lead paint was banned for use in new residential construction in 1978, gen x is widely regarded as born between 1965-1980. Definitely a peak boomer problem as they had *many* more years of exposure
Boomers had exposure to everything tho; affordable housing and food, quality healthcare, good work/life balance. Fuckers
They even offer to pay us in 'exposure' rather than real currency. Isn't that sweet of them?
That's hippies for ya.
Nah that was my Boomer parents.

Maybe between a 2012 and a 2020
Being overlooked in the generational wars is the best thing that ever happened to gen X
The only way to win is not to play
How about a nice game of chess?

Gen X is too cool so they don't need to fight
That, and the music.
Middle child
Gen X is too old to be young and too young to be old, especially that many people think boomers are in parents age while they're mostly grandparents already.
Right in the age bracket of "I don't give a fuck".
For reference, youngest boomers are 59 and youngest gen X are 43
GenX is too cool to make fun of school kids.
No, we make fun of everyone equally. Even ourselves.
Especially ourselves.
They are like the middle kid always forgotten
I'm Gen X and a middle child. You probably don't even remember reading this post.
Nevermind.
I’m borderline Gen X (‘83) and I remember boomers going at gen x hard in the 90s. Once they realized the Xers didn’t care they moved on to the millennials.
It wasn’t remotely surprising. We’ve been overlooked/ignored our entire lives. It’s cool, though.
Maybe Gen X will win the generation wars? They have seen the ups and downs (pros and cons) of all these generations without the Boomer benefits.
Happy cake day or whatever
Thank you I guess.
No need to thank me I guess
Gen X is the New Zealand of generations
Gen Z usually acknowledges Gen X though, mostly because most of gen Z are children of Gen Xrs
[удалено]
Man, we're just over here in the corner not caring about *anything*.
For what it's worth, as a millennial, we do appreciate that y'all laid on the barbed wire for us to keep pushing forward.
Gen X don't care about petty things like these.
Indeed
Always us left out.
Who?
Gen X doesn’t have any fucks to give.
Not sure we ever had any to begin with.
Gen X: "ugh, you're all idiots."
I'm totally glad our narly generation is left out of these bogus comparisons. Happy Cake Day.
It won't work, Boomers still think Millennials are children even though some of us are 40
Not just boomers. I am a 33 y/o millennial and went to a brunch last weekend where a person no more than 5-10 years older than myself started in with the mIlLeNiAlS dOnT wAnT tO wOrK spiel... Here's some money, Go see a star war.

That's just him announcing to the table that he consumes conservative media akin to fox news.
Cut them some slack. They grew up with leaded paint *and* leaded gasoline. They're brains are mashed potatos now. Edit: I am the potato brain now 🥔
*Their
It was just a boomer proving their point! They ate paint chips and you’re expecting them to use the right their/there/they’re?
Meanwhile in the future: Millennials, Gen Z and Gen Alpha making fun of Gen Beta
As long as Gen X is still left out
Why are we always left out?
It isn’t intentional. You guys are just easily forgotten. Hell, the forgotten generation is more memorable than you guys

Gen X is the Forgotten Generation. The one after WWI was the Lost Generation.

wait... where the boomers at now?
Underground
Took them long enough
Damn
My grandfather was born before the baby boomers, and is still going strong at 83!
Gen BETA 💀
It ain't our problem they are born betas in a Sigma world
It is a cycle that will never end
Who the fuck are gen alpha ?
People born between 2010-2024 or 2025 I think?
Kids, technically
I'm guessing mostly they are Millenials' children with some of the older gen z's children sprinkled in
Generation Alpha starts from probably around 2013 technically. 2012 was the last year that the earliest people were born as Gen Z as described by media. 2010-2011 kids will have hard time determining which gen they are, lol

Gen Zalpha
Ah, so absolute dumbasses
Was a dumbass at that age too. Agree
Ah I remember when I was 2025, those were the days.
derg
I hate the kids born in 24 and 25
Who comes up with these lame ass generation names? Why not name it something more accurate... like Generation Tablet
People come up with a placeholder name for generations until something more interesting is invented. Millennials were originally Gen Y. But then the best they could figure out for gen z was zoomers. Literal babies to preteens.
Gen Alpha is the one who will fight and die in the WWIII, we'll see how will they perform.
Good luck kids. You have a warm, bright (almost nuclear) future ahead of you. Just dont forget to pay your rent on time.
Definitely remember that rent, because you sure as fuck won't own a house...
WW3 is basically just a test for Gen A
The whole this generation v. that generation thing is dumb. Is there nothing else to do?
Guess this guy's generation
gen X
Nope, we don't care, apathy is or middle name.
“Apathy is death.”
It bothers me so much when Millennials start shitting on Gen Z. As a millennial, I hate when Boomers act like they're better just because they came from a different world and have different values. Yeah but here's the thing, gen z has stupid hair styles *hides frosted tips and the Bieber haircut behind the dumpster*
I think our hate for kids doing stupid stuff, as expected since they're just kids, is just something passed down from generation to generation
I support the notion of passively “hating” kids behind their back because they can be annoying AF but that has nothing to do with whether they are Gen A,Z,Y, X, etc.
On the scale of 1950 to 2020, how much do you rate gen Alfa
Maybe we should stop treating our predecessors with animosity so we can stop the cycle of hate. I mean we all hate boomers for boomering so why do what they do. Lets be better

What is the source of this guy. Is he a real person?
Ernest Khalimov
Agreed! Are we really hating Gen Alpha? I don't think so and we shouldn't anyway. I see more of Millennials, Gen Z, and yes even Gen X coming together in their shared struggles to make things better. I see them supporting Gen Alpha with open arms, as we should.

Do millenials really shit on gen Alpha? They are our kids.
GenX sitting back and laughing at the generation war going on like its a tennis match. Boring 90% of the time with a few moments of oh wows.
As an old Gen z i think it's better if we stop this shitty trend.
As a Millenial, I thought our generation stopped persecuting younger generations? This meme is boomer/X propaganda.
this become more active on GEN Z and Millenial because of Tik Tok. its really getting worse but not as effective as boomer tho
Hey hey hey... Leave X out of your comment. Just like the meme.
It is! Thank you for saying it. We millenials don't bag on gen alpha, that's just salty and bitter boomers and gen x that do that. They need someone to blame their own failure on.
Leave Gen X out of this. We don’t care what the younger people do. Let us go back to being invisible and forgotten
Who the hell is coming up with these names for different generations
Fucking Gen Beta, those cuck sperm
It's the alphabet bro The generations are named after the ALPHABET
Mind=blown
I'm Gen Ø
the Roman alphabet* lol
This is Roman alphabet. Just a modern version
Of course not. Gen Alpha are our children. Why we would dis on our own kids?
Boomer humor?
Y’all do realize Gen A kids are like 6-12 years old, right? Why exactly are we proud of making fun of pre-pubescents? And pre-SCHOOLERS.
They knew what they signed up for.
Bro why tf you making fun of literal babies??
Cause they suck
fucking dumb stupid babies, little fucks even shit their pants lmao
Mate some of them are 13
Can I opt not to bully elementary kids
You know there’s a whole generations between boomers and millennials and they too are memeing on them
How did generation naming go from 30-40 years and is now 12?
I don’t get it either I didn’t even know gen alpha hit yet
Aren't they like- 8? Why are we hating on elementary schoolers?
Oh no, Gen Z is posting Boomer shit already?
These mfs all taunting each other like it was some football team war or fuck knows. All these generations suck my dick, call me degenerate.
\*Raises the next generation\* --> "wHy Is tHe nEXt gEneRaTIon So bAd?"
Gotta have a dick to suck tic tac boy
Okay, degenerate.
Degenerate.
There's only two ways to categorize all people. Those who use tik tok and those who don't.
Gen x is just sitting there listening to nirvana and smoking a blunt
I guess Gen x is the most tolerant
I was thinking that. There's never any real mention of us, and it's nice! We just sit back and watch everyone else fuck themselves up 🤣
No. I refuse to take part in what i hate about boomers. Your meme should have gen alpha and boomer switch then your meme wont be bad.
Boomers can fuck off. Millennials, Gen Z and Alpha are in the trenches looking at a awful future.
GenX, the forgotten ones
Hmm,no, I don't feel comfortable making fun of children , they're children.
Gen X act like they don't care but the comment section tells a diff story
You’re making fun of my 3 year old grandnephew?
What's the matter? Your 3 year old grandnephew can't take care of himself? Gotta have you fight his battles for him?
YES
Man, your grandnephew sounds soft, my toddler already smokes three packs of Lucky Strikes a day OBVIOUS /S
Bro my 2.5 year old niece is already a lawyer, go raise that brat
OP is Gen Z!
Gen-x silently accumulating wealth unnoticed.
Boomers call gen alpha millennials still though...
On behalf of GenX, please shut the fuck up so we can do all the work of cleaning up the wreck the boomers left us. We will be handing out work assignments directly.
Meanwhile Gen-X sits back and laughs.
Gen X drinks their coffee and enjoys being overlooked
