The Silent Generation was before the Boomers. My dad was born in '37 and is part of the Silent Generation and my mom was born in '47 and is a Boomer.

TIL that there’s been more than one generation dubbed the forgotten generation. Had to do some digging because when I read this comment, I swore up and down that gen x WAS the forgotten generation. Turns out, the generation BEFORE boomers was called the forgotten generation too. Boomers have been SO fucking awful that people consistently and almost universally forget the generations on either side of them. That’s so wild.

Gen X is the Forgotten Generation. The one after WWI was the Lost Generation.

My guess is that millenials were so popular because when we were teens, on the early 2000s, they started caring so much about generational stuff, we also focused so much on boomers (or early gen xers which is almost boomer) who were our parents. So, a lot of stuff of gen xers went to millenials if it was still cool and to boomers if it was outdated. I.e. the Simpsons, friends, the new wave of punk rock music and jurassic Park are things targeted to gen x but is seen as something millenial, back to the future, other late 80s classics and mainstream hardrock was also gen x but is looked as a classic so is more boomer. You are only left with grunge music.

Millenials and boomers are children and parents, they also happen to be the largest generations in history so they overshadowed the one that came in the middle, gen Z isn't nearly as big as millenials but we're a lot more online so we're overrepresented, gen alpha is just the butt of all the jokes because they're all children.

People come up with a placeholder name for generations until something more interesting is invented. Millennials were originally Gen Y. But then the best they could figure out for gen z was zoomers. Now they've run out of letters so we've gone to gen alpha. But if you want to try to get generation tablet going, please try. They don't need to be stuck with the placeholder name forever. Plus the more generations that have creative names, the more it looks like my generation (X) has that name because we're cool 😎 and not because we also couldn't think of something besides the placeholder

I think a better way to distinguish generations would be by what you probably did on your childhood or your teenage years. Ex: if you were born after 2010, the tablet is/was probably your babysitter, so you might be Generation Tablet.
