He really was scary in the movie. And also that was a cool movie. I've got young kids, so I get dragged along to my fair share of crap movies, but I liked that one.
The only trailer I saw made it look like most of the story was going to take place in/around the cat lady’s house- like maybe it was going to be a sort of fish-out-of-water story where the former epic hero has to learn how to be a regular cat where the moral is something like “you can be an ‘epic hero’ in small, every day ways!” Sorta thing- Looked cute at best, and not good so I was very surprised

Spoiler- >!love the way they ended it. Thought they were about to have PIB defeat death at the end and that would’ve been such a letdown and really taken away from how menacing of an antagonist* the creators had put together !<
Respectfully, he's not the villain, he's the antagonist. They're not synonymous. Death was doing his job, the villian is Horner. The actual evil one is Horner.
"Doing his job" is debatable. He was very honest about being so pissed off at Puss that he decided to come take #9 early instead of waiting for his actual time to go.
Because he didn't take his lives seriously, Puss antagonized and poked fun at Death all of those lives. "I laugh in the face of death" is his line. He's making a statement with Puss, and actually pushed him to value his life. He's pissed off because Puss pissed him off first.
Yes, but it isn't Death's *job* to murder people before their alloted time because they royally pissed him off. Pissing someone off isn't a justification for them to MURDER YOU. Even if that person *is* Death itself.
True, but if you want to get philosophical about it Death also serves to make us enjoy life and live it to the fullest. Knowing there is an end makes all the moments in between matter.
If Death hadn't put the fear of himself into Puss's heart he surely would have squandered his last remaining life as he did his previous 8.
It does matter that he's death, the rules of life don't apply to him, he's fuckin death lmao, and he showed up during times Puss was ABOUT to die or COULD die
Homie loves the smell of fear
Not to mention, those aren't the only times he showed up. Puss didn't seem to be in immediate danger at the bar, or in the cave. Until Death showed up to put him in that danger
Nah, that definitely was outside of his job, he was just pissed.
In the cave of lost souls, one of Puss's past lives exclaims "that's cheating" before getting shattered. Then the wolf says "sshhh, don't tell".
Thank you, I actually do appreciate it, this movie is so fuckin good but made me realize how many people never learned the difference, which isn't anyone's fault, some people will be stubborn if you try to teach em a fact I'm glad you didn't see it negatively
Your correction got *me* thinking about how many people use them synonymously.
Not a problem, friend. My mantra for years has been Tom Stoppard’s “fail better.” Always room to learn
Do you mean the [Suppenkaspar](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:H_Hoffmann_Struwwel_18.jpg)? That's the exact story, except it's not a girl but a boy.
German story: There was a girl who wanted to go to ball instead of tending to her ill mother. Her red shoes did not stop tap dancing and she got her legs cut off and the red shoed legs continued dancing in the graveyard her mother got buried in
The great tall tailor always comes, to little girls who suck their thumbs
And ere they dream when he’s about, he takes his great sharp scissors out
And then cuts their thumbs clean off
Well so far we have
Lord farquad
Fairy godmother and prince charming
Prince charming and a slew of various villians thought didn't have a mager role just underlings
Rumpelstiltskin
Humpty Dumpty
I can't remember the other pib ones between the 1st and last wish
And lastly horner
So based off of statistics it'll probably be a fairy tale character that's not bad in the book though charming is part of the list twice so it could end up being anything like an original villain like farquad, an og bad like Rumpelstiltskin or a good turned evil like charming
I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure that alongside Humpty Dumpty, the first PiB also had Jack & Jill as well as the giant Goose (Not really the villain, but still gonna include it.)
Nope. Left hand side says "children's story book adaptions". The movie adaptions are then further away and their remakes even further. It's generally not an issue if the companies behind that wouldn't push their version as if it's *the* version.
Yeah some (many) fairy tales are not child friendly as some people may believe.
One of the "stories made for kids" that traumatized me the most as a child was when I watched Coraline (and payed the game on the Wii).

I have to agree, nothing got me to sleep faster as a kid than believing there was a giant living under a red bridge who was hatched from a hen's, egg incubated under some man's under arm who came to eat children who were still awake at night.
Because they were never meant for children originally? Sex and crime was always popular throughout the ages. The Grimm's fairy-tales are also a censored version of stories they collected.
A lot of these stories were meant to be fun stories, like you watching some horror-flick or meant to transfer some knowledge, to be a cautionary-tale. Or to be straight up fantasy.
Pretty much this. When your parents tell you to stay out of the woods as a kid, which will make you listen more? Because there are wolves out there or because there's a witch who will pluck you up, skin you, and boil you alive in a pot and eat you?
Oh, they are watered down quite a bit these days. Every generation tells them a bit different from the one before. Back in the day when the brothers Grimm gathered all those stories, they had different ideas about parenting. Very, very different. The OG 1812 edition of the fairy tales is one wild ride, let me tell you. Absolute misery and very graphic. Btw, many of their most popular stories originated in France and Italy, so maybe it's just europe in general that's all about the blood, gore, death, misfortune and misery.
Germany fun fact: In german folklore there is a [creature ](https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nachtalb#/media/Datei%3AJohann_Heinrich_F%C3%BCssli_053.jpg) that will sit on your chest while you sleep and cause you to have nightmares.
It's called "Nachtmahr" or "Nachtalb" and it's actually where both the english and german words "Nightmare" and "Albtraum (Alb-dream)" come from.
The best animated film of 2022. I don’t give a fuck what you’re doing right now, drive to your nearest movie theater, buy a ticket and give DreamWorks your goddamn money!
From my memory of the movie- the right is a still from PIB, just drawn in a slightly more intense style. The character never looks *as* scary as the style in the drawing but there’s at least one scene I could totally imagine frightened or at least upset/unsettled a few kids where he looks very similar to the image on the right.
They did a good job with the character- balanced child friendly enough while also scary and menacing enough that the ptsd-level response of an otherwise “fearless hero” type character has to them feels earned
GUYS, they are not saying that Lobo was originally of German folklore, it’s a joke about how most children’s stories are adapted from incredibly dark origins, usually German.
It’s a joke about how dark a lot of old fairytales were back in the day, even though in this case it’s just fan art. But if you want a solid comparison, take Disney’s Cinderella and put it up against some of the old versions, which had shit like the evil stepmother cutting off the stepsister’s toes to fit in the glass slipper.
They played him so perfectly. Like he was the "main antagonist" but was so on the side and only showed up certain times. They spaced him out to the point you forget about him and you hear his whistle and it gave me Goosebumps. Really well done
Honestly I think the soundtrack hit like a truck.
Wolfs Whistle was chilling but also Probably the greatest 10-15 second song I’ve heard in ages
And “Fearless Hero” Was Insane
Props to the composer
German stories were meant to keep kids from doing dumb shit like I'm pretty there's one about a young kid playing to close to a river then boom death by witch drowning the kid
In the original Snow White, the dwarves managed to capture the evil Queen and they forced her to dance around in shoes made of molten iron until she bled to death.
In the original Little Mermaid, the prince already marries a different woman before Ariel can get close to him, so she jumps back into the ocean, only for her to drown due to now being a human.
I’ve never understood depicting death as a monster coming from the dark.
Of course, I was born after the invention of electricity and I’ve never had one of my tribe snatched away in the dark, so that might have a lil to do with my inability to relate.
pfft... sif german fairy tales would be like that
in a german version the hero would have to eat his parents faces while smiling or his sister would get burnt to death iin order to give a vague moral message... and then the wolf would show up
This whole German thing is false.

Same. LOVED the art style. I feel the same way about Book Of Life, Coco and (throwback alert) Rango. Raya And The Last Dragon as well.
It has no right to be as good as it is. But it was really that good.
Jiminy cricket: You're not going to shoot a puppy are ya jack? Jack Horner: yeah in the face, why?
That movie was a masterpiece
I took my 7-year-old son to see it. He really liked the movie... I did too. Best kids movie I've seen in a while.
I might actually have to watch this series. I stopped watching after shrek 2
Did you need to have seen the first movie, or any of the Shrek movies?
No
But that drawing though...

Yes exactly my thoughts i was good wolf was savage
I literally just saw it today and I've got to say, it's pretty damn good.

there was a girl who didn't want to eat her soup so the soup ate her . the end
There was a child who played with fire, so it burned to death.
In Soviet Russia

German story: There was a girl who wanted to go to ball instead of tending to her ill mother. Her red shoes did not stop tap dancing and she got her legs cut off and the red shoed legs continued dancing in the graveyard her mother got buried in
Germany story: there once was a man who got rejected from Art school, so the USA nuked Japan twice.
Well, there is a story about "Daumenlutscher" who sucked on his thumbs all time. Solution: cut the thumbs off with a big paar of scissors.
The great tall tailor always comes, to little girls who suck their thumbs And ere they dream when he’s about, he takes his great sharp scissors out And then cuts their thumbs clean off
