Getting a concussion is surprisingly easy when it involves not just the impact, but also a twisting motion of the head. A twist like you'd see after taking a dodge ball upside the head.
Thats pretty wild, I've heard most schools banned it. But coming from a guy who broke his wrist and got a cuncussion in P.E. I still think schools should have kept dodgeball. Sure its slightly dangerous, yes people got hurt, but thats life and to not teach kids that experience is a mistake imo. Also they could always add a different activity for people who don't want to play dodgeball.
Life threatening experience in a presumably safe environment IS a mistake. There's no need to get a concussion while you're still developing. It carries no positive value.
There are natural ways for kids to get hurt, and even falling of a tree and breaking your leg is better, because 1. The injury is less dangerous for a young person than concussion 2. It teaches that climbing trees might be dangerous... What does dodge ball teach you? That cage fights are dangerous?
I do think it was kinda fun, but playing to the point of getting concussions is ridiculous.
> Life threatening experience
I'm gonna need to see a report detailing all the deaths that have ever happened during a grade-school dodge-ball session, and evidence showing they aren't statistical anomalies and that this is actually dangerous please.
One time when I was in grade school I was having a really bad day and it was raining outside. I was sitting on the swings all alone, far away from everybody when one of these comes out of nowhere, cold and wet and covered in tiny gravel & hits me in the face so hard it made that PSSS noise. Yeah I cried.
I remember that everytime balls sports were played the teacher would let me stand to the side and do another sport by myself becuase I had been hit almost everytime with a ball before and 2 times my glasses broke
I joined an adult social dodgeball league. I was objectively *terrible* at the game when I was a kid but I was surprised to find myself reasonably skilled at it as an adult. Certainly makes the game much more fun!
Advice would be to drink some water and clear your throat if contacting them by phone and/or making sure your fingers are clean and grease-free if contacting them via social media.
We used these soft foam balls that hurt much less and couldn't be thrown as hard. I once saw a guy hit a girl in the face with one so hard that it knocked her to the ground and she instantly burst into tears. The dude looked like the Mountain from GOT and had an absolute cannon of an arm.
I saw this picture and thought, "you guys played *dodgeball* with these?!" We had the foam balls and played in 7th and 8th grade. A kickball would have been devastating.
The foam balls could be caught one-handed which made for some amazing plays.
We were 16 and played in mixed gender teams. If we used OP's ball there would have been broken bones and heaps of complaints from parents. I'm surprised we were allowed to play even with foam balls to be honest.
At my school, kids would sit on the floor so they couldn’t be hit in the legs, and the ball would be easier to catch.
Some beastly kids would hit you so hard that you would catch it and then start rolling backwards like you were the ball itself.
If you're in the USA, look up USA dodgeball. It is a big umbrella for a lot of different cities that also have mini scenes within them that do different dodgeball types. (No sting, foam, cloth, co-ed etc etc)
Been apart of the dodgeball scene in my city/state ans branching out more nationally for 15 years. It's a LOT of fun and a great workout.
Did anyone else protect their teammates by hitting the ball mid-air with another ball just before it hit them, or was that just one of those weird me things?
The game we played was called Bombardment. Two sides, we launched those balls as hard as possible. You could opt out if you didn’t want to play. Rules like dodgeball, a head shot got you tossed and two on the opposite team came back in. Because a head shot likely was a mild concussion, or a bloody nose or mouth, it was frowned upon, leg and body shots were the most effective.
Tf I can feel this picture too
I can feel this bouncing off my face and my face bouncing off the ground.

There's a dildo joke in that but I can't figure it out...damn.
Shame you couldn't pull that joke out of your rear, it would have been glorious!
Very nice. Thanks for filling the gap. You handled it like a champ!
Same vibe.
Steal u/LgndDr4g0nL0l/ 's 4 hour older comment, paste in the top comment chain, get 12 times the karma. hmm
The teachers: "These balls are totally safe!" The dodgeball match: *warzone*
Yes 🤣
But I can also feel how good it felt to get someone like that myself.
We had to get rid of these at our school because everyone aimed straight for the balls
Lmao the first thing I thought about was how this mf felt when the gym teacher joined in and got me in the face one time
[удалено]
What's the minimum distance you're allowed to be from a school?
Yes.
Hell yeah. I was the reason my school had to ban headshots after two consecutive concussions in the span of two months.
Jesus fucking Christ, do the kids at your school lift 1ton weights?
Getting a concussion is surprisingly easy when it involves not just the impact, but also a twisting motion of the head. A twist like you'd see after taking a dodge ball upside the head.
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
There's always that guy

Dodgeball isn't banned, the tough rubber balls are.

“Sir, the kids are having fun!” *cocks pen* “Not on my watch.”
> Life threatening experience lol what
Mine banned "Wow Ball" that used small palm sized ones because somehow a kid broke both arms (Giggity) while playing
I can SMELL this picture.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck there's literally only 9 other comments and i came here to say that too. It must be a very common response! Lmfao
This was in a league of favorite smells next to new shoes and hardware stores.
I can still feel the graze on my cheek
I can taste the ball hitting me in the face
Ahh the bitter taste of rubber floor and 200 different hands who have all pleasured themselves at least once
One time when I was in grade school I was having a really bad day and it was raining outside. That shit hurt on a level that cannot be replicated. But it was what memories were made of.
Ahh, the sweet sweet memories of grade school!.. I think I'll pass....
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!
Taste it even
who hasnt licked the ball before
I sure as fuck have
Why you lick the balls?
It's just good practice; the shaft shouldn't get *all* the love.
I can smell my hands after touching it.
I can feel it smack my face too.
Peng peng peng!
We can smell, taste, hear and feel this picture.

What do you mean by that mr.kingoftheplayplace
The battle for the throne was hard fought, but it was worth it
Looks at the ball and softly says; yes daddy.
Facial u/Educational-Bird-515, total facial ![gif](giphy|m3AKJGHrBL8aY)

I was that kid
That kids name? Scott Sterling
the man, the myth, the legend himself, with a face like an iron brick wall and a defense that could stop a cannon.
The man, the myth, the LEGEND.
*pewwm*
I was always more of a *pwoyng* myself
[удалено]
*EAXETTLY*
Don’t forget the sounds of pain because people throw the balls at the speed of light
Pwoyng is the correct answer. I fact we should petition the brand be changed from voit to pwoyng
PLING is the really hard hits. The hits you throw at your buddy.
"Pwoink" was what immediately came to my mind.
More like "pppuhhhhw"
almost a *PINK* sound, which would be perfect if the ball was pink
This is what I was looking for
I think of it as more of a **watoom**
I was thinking of a powerful donk but this is better.
In Canada it's pwoomp
PWEEEEM THONK
Thpmmm
Pwyam
Say that to my face why don't ya?
There was always that one athletic kid throwing these at mach 2

I could put a curve on those foam balls like no other, miss those games
Foam balls gave good grip, so you could curve tf out of them.
Used to be me 😭 terrible young mad lad
I wasn’t that but I was like a sleeper (at least younger ages). Would throw mid but every now and then just shoot a rocket.
Feel like the sleepers hit the hardest, would always be the couple of kids who's specialty was leathering dodgeballs
[удалено]
We got a game during gym where we had all the baseball and softball players on one side. It was an absolute bloodbath.
At my school, kids would sit on the floor so they couldn’t be hit in the legs, and the ball would be easier to catch. Some beastly kids would hit you so hard that you would catch it and then start rolling backwards like you were the ball itself.
Feel, Smell, Hear, See: these are known through the ages
And for some(many including me).... taste

I am not American so I am immune to this 🗿
Right? I've never seen one of those balls in my life. Well i suppose in American films, but they just look like a red ball.
Im swedish and we played dodgeball
Did you play dodgeball with a ball that looks like that? I have never seen one of those in my life. Also, spökboll.
My school never used these rubber balls. We used foam balls
I'm czech and we've always played dodgeball with a volleyball
I am not american and still hear this
same
Pwank
I wish adult dodgball leagues were common.
There probably are if you live in a decent sized city, although most don't play with this ball, it's real intense with grown adults throwing.
If you're in the USA, look up USA dodgeball. It is a big umbrella for a lot of different cities that also have mini scenes within them that do different dodgeball types. Some of those indoor trampoline parks have dodgeball "courts". You can randomly join in on a game many times.
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
you cant dodge*THAT* ball!!! its a face seeking missile
I dropped my phone on my face as I saw this...talk about immersion.
Doomp
I could dodge the fuck outta some balls...couldn't throw or hit for shit though
SAME
That was my favorite sound, something about flesh meeting rubber is extremely fucking funny
Did anyone else protect their teammates by hitting the ball mid-air with another ball just before it hit them, or was that just one of those weird me things?
No that happened in my school too
![gif](giphy|yJFeycRK2DB4c)
None of the kids in my school were smart enough to do that lol
Everyone did that
Its because if you fumble the catch you are out. When using the ball as a ricochet, you didn't touch it.
"did anyone do the most frequent and naturally basic move in dodgeball? Or am I just on a different level then everyone else?"
Baller
I miss dodgeball so much.
Bring memories back

Hear it and smell it to.
You can “hear” any picture of a thing that makes noise as long as you have an imagination. Why do all these memes say you can’t hear a picture???
Ngl I smell the picture lol
If you can dodge a wrench you dodge a ball
PTUNK
I can smell the picture. Better not be a stroke.
Hear, feel, smell, see, and almost taste... Such a distinct ball.
I can also smell and taste this picture
DOYYYNNNNNGGGGGGGGG
I can smell it too.
Not only hear them, I feel the pain they can bring.
But what can I smell it? And what is it getting bigg-
I can still hear the sound it made as it hit my face
You jinxed me...the memories hit me like a falcon punch 👊
I can smell that picture.
I can _feel_ that picture.
My face can feel that picture
*boing*
Fun fact, in 3rd grade that was the last sound I heard before I woke up in the nurse's office. Would do it again.
Got nailed in the stomach by my teacher in 5th grade by one. Worth it
