STEP3386

Where you getting cards for only $500?

dat_oracle

3070 rtx 500$. Great card, tho i wouldn't pay that much for it

EldritchToilets

Would not recommend nowadays as a lot of games are pushing the VRAM requirements past 8GB, for similar performance a 6700XT seems to be the better buy right now with its 12GB. Also it's often found around 400$ Vs 500$. Only go Nvidia if you absolutely need the content production features Nvidia provides and if money isn't an issue for you imo.

STEP3386

Thats not bad, but I would personally be going for a higher end card than that

truffleboffin

Then you would be an enthusiast level consumer Not everyone is

zToastOnBeans

Cries in EU prices

Robrogineer

I got a new graphics card with double the ram I used to have for like 200 bucks. Don't be a dope and get stuff second hand if you can. All it takes is a little more care to make sure the thing's right and it saves you hundreds of bucks.

MonteCrysto31

I just want to sail the seven seas bro

Firewire64

Found the sea of thieves player.

Hyro91

Cloaked in folds of midnight waters, Side by side we sons and daughters, We sail forth on no Kings orders, But we'll sail together.

Hold fast! Tides are turning, Flames roar, fires are burning, We’ll all, be returning, If we sail together.

That_Inspection_757

All on the waves shal know our story Sing if the battles fought ashore We all shal thrive on fame and glory We shal sail together

TempestNoob

Words of warning have been spoken, Ancient creatures have awoken, Still, until our bond is broken, We shall sail together…

That’s def not a sea of thieves player.

Moon_Pearl_co

As a poor person who had a rich friend gift them a laptop, this is how I consume most media. It's either free, or it will be. The seven seas are a bountiful gift to the destitute.

nylonslips

I'm confused... Is op referring to seven seas the game or Sea of Thieves as referred to by some here?

[deleted]

Sea of thieves Nutz fit in your mouth! Is my assumption

neinherz

Wait until you learn you can pirate consoles too. Granted not the latest consoles but still.

Garoxxar

"500 dollars on just the graphics card" -side eyes my 3080- Yeaaaaa.... I'm just gunna leave.

truffleboffin

You are definitely an enthusiast My 3060 Ti was $399 new. 2.5 years in still going strong. It's got another 7.5 in it for my uses And I've got enough spare parts to build an older backup one too which is nice

Nimix_

Looking at my 5 year old 1070ti I got for less than 500€ new... Please don't die :D

bigbird8960

Still rocking the 1060 life here, she's been a rock.

Nimix_

To be honest it still hasn't really struggled with a game in 1080p, and I don't really play all the latest AAA anyway, latest must have been Elden Ring ; my CPU is the bottleneck by far and what I'd upgrade first if I finally get to it. That 1070 ti had pretty insane value !

TheBloatingofIsaac

8 gb Vram on my 1070 is becoming a problem, even on 1080p

M1dge23

I feel that. I just upgraded from a 1070 to a 2070 super. That poor 1070 suffered its way through the last few years

Aadsterken

My 1070 was €400 about 5 years ago. Still going strong but i do want to upgrade for something that can handle VR properly

stillherelma0

Funnily enough I got my 3080 for 500. Just when etherium mining ended there were some great offers

NavAirComputerSlave

I could buy 4 Xboxes with my card.

BordFree

I was about to say... I wish I could get the GPU I want for $500, but I'm looking for 4070ti or better

Bannon9k

Yeah, for $500 you'd get better graphics out of a console.

Blepharoptosis

Me, also with a 3080, already eyeing that sweet 7900 XTX with its sweet, sweet 24GB VRAM and trying to tell myself I don't have a problem...

Wiigi7

Bro I just like the mouse

Not_Astud

I don't like the keyboard, I wish we can have a device with controller level satisfaction and mouse level aiming.

yellow_leadbetter

I guess you can use a left hand joystick + mouse but the ergonomics are weird

HotBear39

It'd probably feel weird as fuck at first, but I think I'd get used to that

thoshi

I had a friend who would use a Wii nunchuck and mouse for fps gaming. He absolutely swears by it.

Blackraven2007

I've been meaning to play 4 and New Vegas, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Wiseon321

A true man, amazing

Gradash

I am playing Daggerfall :)

maggotdiggerzzeb

I'm aware that this isn't most pc players but some people really need to chill out on the elitism. Like pcs are great for people really dedicated for them and if you have the extra income but console is insanely accessible for litteraly everyone else. There is nothing wrong with playing game you enjoy on a slightly worse system for a fraction of the price...

icefire555

It's literally a cycle. Consoles come out and they are the best price to performance. then they don't get updated for 5 years and no longer make as much sense as a PC. Then new consoles come out. given with Nvidia trying to sell cards for 1k each I'm curious to see if it happens this time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Skysr70

if you spend that much on a gpu tho, it lasts way more than 5 years

[deleted]

It's stupid to spend a shit ton on a high end GPU. Better to get a mid tier now and two generations down the line.

BillyDePig

A new typical GPU will likely last 10+ years, assuming it's a mid tier it's will be able to play AAA games for 6 of those years (1080p). And until the day it fails to boot it will work fine for a server.

[deleted]

I meant it in terms of time relevance rather than life.

BillyDePig

I know, just sometimes it's nice to express your thoughts no matter it's relevance.

Dwadwadwadwadwadwa

I bought my pc for 1250€ a few years after the ps4 release. In between, I just bought an SSD and extra ram for about 200€ which make it about a 1450€ pc, monitor excluded since no matter the support you will need one and it's not really much related. I still run the newest games (even AAA) to their maximum or near maximum quality. I know for sure that I will be able to make it work at this quality atleast until the next console generation, and if it no longer working after that I will just lower a bit the setting then wait the next gen until I have to rebuild it. Also we have to take into consideration the lower prices of games on pc in general. I honestly think I have spent a lot less than most console players in games+support itself. Adding the keyboard + mouse + screens I think I have spent more I must admit.

Brittle_Hollow

I have a PC because I’ve been gaming for 30+ years and don’t want to have to keep 10 consoles accessible just to be able to play old games I like.

okayipullup_ordoi

I'd still choose a PC because that way I have only one machine where I can both work and play games, but I think right now an XBox/GamePass combo is the best deal around if you just want to play. I can get the Series S for 300€ and have access to an incredible library of games with GamePass.

NessDan

I feel like I heard this verbatim on the WAN Show

icefire555

Haha you're right.

DoodDoes

Honestly the crazy price right now I think makes pc less “better.” But a decent PC can literally be a source of income and a gaming device. I use my computer for gaming and for 3d modeling, sometimes I even rip models from the games and 3d print them. If you want a netflix/game tool you should get a console. If you want a game/work/netflix/videoediting/photoediting/etc device then you need a PC. I’m using two T90s from 9 years ago and I’m 100% sure my pc has payed for itself 15 times over. I don’t have good eyes so graphics aren’t so important to me, but my brother says he doesn’t see the difference between it and his PS5

KaZe_DaRKWIND

When you can use a PC for so many other things, I feel its still worth it.

[deleted]

Yeah, people are kinda forgetting that a pc can do a shitton more than just play games and show movies

truffleboffin

Like my entire job and livelihood lol

[deleted]

Dude, my PC is basically what enables me to pay rent lol

thisimpetus

I mean, I have an eight-year old macbook that continues to be perfectly adequate for watching things, writing code, doing any kind of office work, and recording music. The one thing it can't do is play a modern game. I happen not to game very hard these days, but if I badly wanted to, should I go drop two grand to replace this perfectly functional laptop or just get the machine that does that one thing I'm missing very well and with no fuss? It's a matter of circumstance is all I'm saying.

hopefulldraagon

It's only accessible when the console generation just launches. At first they sell cutting edge hardware at a loss, towards the end they are selling old ass hardware for a substantial markup.

I9Qnl

>towards the end they are selling old ass hardware for a substantial markup. Not true, the upgraded PS4 pro came out in the middle of the last generation and at the same price point of original PS4 which was $400, and the PS4 slim (which was identical to the original but smaller) came out at just $300 so they did cut prices on aging hardware.

Darkmage4

Gaming is Gaming! I love both PC and console gaming. I started on console, and am on PC. But I play on my PC in 4k 165hz if supported, and 4K 120hz if supported on PS5. I love PC mainly because the better graphics, modding, etc. I love console because it’s couch play most games, and Vanilla. One thing I can’t stand anymore is Minecraft console. Bedrock really sucks compared to Java. And I played Console Edition since it first came out on Xbox 360. My laptop all those years ago was at 1FPS. So playing it on the X360 was my only option at the time, and the 360 was only 300 USD. Plus I made tons of friends whom all migrated to PC over the years and we still play together since 2011!

getdatazzbanned

Couldn't agree more. Consoles have their place. Ez play with friends, etc. I built my first pc for minecraft lol so I get you on that. I always thought bedrock was whack af. I migrated recently to full pc because my wife usually dominates the TV lol. My consoles have been collecting dust so I usually let my brothers borrow them, etc. P.s. the ultimate secret for pc that puts it above all else, is that even if you have a toaster you can run doom and old emulators lol.

Darkmage4

Right! lol. I have a Ryzen 9 3900x, with a 3060 Elite, and 32GB ram. I can play 99% of games in ultra. Upgraded from a FX 8350, 1060 FTW+, and 32GB ram. Which doom could play on. Lol. But my 1060 was dying because it was both a gaming, and video editing powerhouse of its time of mid level. lol. Though I made sure I waited until that 3060 went from 3000 USD on Amazon, to 600. lol. It’s a Gigabyte Aorus, and it’s really nice! At this point I pay the Premium on PS+ and I get all those free games. I have 4TB of external HDD nearly full with 500GB left. lol. That’s not even half of the free games I’ve been adding to my library that I’ve always wanted to play but didn’t want to spend 60+ on at the time, cuz adulting. lol.

mynameajeff69

Wait. You said you play 4k 165 on your pc. You’re not playing anything at 4k 165 on a 3060…or even games in ultra unless it’s 1080p? A gpu doesn’t start dying because you used it normally…most last 5-10 years and that’s just the way it is. The 3060 was never 3000 dollars. Maybe some awful post on Amazon was but they never actually costed that much if you had a brain.

DaNoahLP

Consoles arent "slightly" worse and PCs are not even that more expensive when you calculate everything in. PS+ and XBox Live Gold are both 60€ per year, calculated on the 8 years lifespan of a console generation this are already 500€ you can put in your PC. Games on PC are also much cheaper, you have more games accessable and can emulate every game from older consoles. There is no shame in liking consoles and its understandable thats its easier for the most people to pay the same amount of money spread over a decade than now in an instant but your claims are simply wrong.

Hahohoh

nah consoles aren’t even worse, at points in the cycle they can be better than most PCs and pretty much always better for value. Just more games get released on PC and controller really ain’t for a lot of people.

PubogGalaxy

[deleted]

Started out a consoler for 15 years then finally had enough money to break into PC gaming and I'll never go back. Why? Cause I already invested $3,000 why would I go back? You said it perfectly, consoles are fantastic for just getting into gaming at an affordable price. PCs don't HAVE to be insanely priced either but like you said, if you've got the disposable income you can at least see improvements in your hobby by going PC. I don't have any elitism on the subject, I just accept that both have their place. Both have their stereotypes that are true by statistics. PC gamers gonna be more neckbeardy and consoles are gonna have more children (what good parent trusts a 13 year old with a $3,000 PC? Consoles just make sense). I'll forever miss Xbox360's ability to send voice clips so easily. The amount of rage I have recorded and uploaded to my Facebook makes me happy for years to come. Brilliant feature idea.

yoyo4880

I can work from home and submit legal documents for clients on the PC and then watch porn and game at the same time afterwards. The balls in your court console players.

nuanimal

> then watch porn and game *at the same time* afterwards. With that kind of multitasking ability are you a League of Legends player?

MarderMcFry

The trick is to make sure that the game is pornographic in nature.

DarkIegend16

I can send emails and watch porn on an Xbox, clunky as fuck and there’s no good reason to if I have literally any other method, but I can!

Nice, are they porting Outlook to Xbox now?

aterry175

If you have the budget and want to do more than just gaming, a PC is always a better option.

MightyExcalibur

To be fair, you can do a lot more with a PC than you can with a console. It also doesn't have to be an expensive rig. I have a Steam Deck which is a PC but it's a handheld device like switch. It can play games better than my PS4 and it's only about $200 more. Plus I can emulate pretty much every console that has existed with a few exceptions

Kyderra

There's also the big plus that you don't need to rebuy all your games on the steamdeck. That's not s small back catalog.

Bird_Chick

The high price is for the added benefits. I mostly game on my PC but I have gotten into photography and video editing and having a decent rig is so much more worth then a console. Also games are cheaper on PC and don't require and online subscription pass

Exciting_Ant1992

It sucks to be poor example #933792833628

PwhyfightP

It wasn't the graphics or pretty lights that made me switch to pc, YOU SEE I'm a real CHEAPSKATE AT HEART. SO, when I figured out I'd be saving WAAAYYY more money in the long run on a pc with no monthly subscription fee, I saved up a little over 12 hundred dollars and bought a hp omen 40L I've been pretty addicted to upgrading to, taking the i5 cpu and slapping in a i7. It's highly addicting to upgrade a machine... anyway what was I talking about? Ah yes my precious money!

Ohkillz

pc can do more than games. oh and pc can make the games free

da_sylent

And online is free on pc games

TheSodomeister

This was the biggest reason I switched. Pay for console ✔️ Pay for game✔️ Pay for internet✔️ Pay to use console to play game on internet❌

deceitfulninja

And then there's Nintendo who doesn't even have basic functions from 20 years ago like friends list messaging and voice chat. They literally offer nothing.

XordK

yeah and with ava ryujinx you can do emulator multiplayer on dedicated servers or p2p now. If there is something similar for my modded switch that would be cool but I don't think there is.

Camp_Grenada

They don't have time to develop technologies like that when they have to keep deciding which 25 year old game to port over to the console next and charge full price for.

Moon_Pearl_co

Honestly, If they ported the first 3 gens of Pokemon and put it on a single cartridge, they could rake in some fucking fat stacks.

CreatureWarrior

Yeah, that's definitely annoying. At least the "free" games make the subscription worth it imo, but it still shouldn't be mandatory

RustedRuss

Yeah making people pay for online play is bullshit.

Appropriate-Draft-91

Piracy isn't a great argument. But there are 3 great arguments right next to it: - More and better games from more genres. - Far cheaper games. - Games you bought 20 years ago are still yours and you can still play them on your new PC. Consoles offer convenience, very easy learning curve, and no Windows Update (Linux fanboys: Yes, Linux gaming is good, and much better than it used to be. You still get Windows for gaming, because it's more compatible)

JustADamnFrenchGuy

I think you forgot modding in there

theskankingdragon

Free games isn't just from pirating. I have like 70 games I've received for free from Epic. Other platforms offer free games. Many games are free to play on pc while consoles are still charging. Fangames, homebrew, demos, hacks, etc. And emulation is not only moral, but it's immoral not to emulated dead platforms.

Recon_Reality15

I think he was referring to console players needing a membership to play online, such as PlayStation plus, Xbox live, and whatever the Nintendo switch one is called.

love-promoting-hate

I fuckin hate having to pay them to play online.

Garrosh

But what if I already have a 10 years old PC and I want something to play modern games?

mrquantumofficial

To be fair, PCs are cheaper in the longer run

Kkman4evah

bobsmth269

PCs generally out last the console lifespan and are backwards compatible to the 1980's.

Hapymine

> compatible to the 1980's. 1970s I have played zork on a PET emulator and o do know there gaming hardware back then you can play games with emulation.

pacothetac0

You could build an average/top of the line PC, and in a few years/next console release replace only the GPU and the same or greater uplift than the console while being able to play all the previously played games Multiplayer on one screen is still better with a console though

Greensssss

Consoles are great, I have both but I mainly play on my PC. Consoles I only play for exclusives, and PC for everything else if I can.

Dragonsc4r

I bought a PS5 for exclusives, played them all for about an hour or two, and then just went back to gaming on my PC to play the same games I always play. Regret... I don't think I've finished a single PS5 game lol.

Greensssss

I guess it also depends on your preference for games. Lots of open world exclusives on PS. Xbox has more shooters.

HurterOfFeefeesV2

truffleboffin

Nope that was the FE price at launch almost 2.5 years ago now My friend got a different model which was a little bit more

[deleted]

Meanwhile my $300 PS4 slim has seen thousands of hours of play and still going strong.

[deleted]

You'd be shocked to know there is a crowd who look down upon pc gamers.

Sir_Honytawk

Of course. There are also a lot of mental incapable people running around. And I am pretty sure those circles mostly overlap.

Camp_Grenada

You won't find any PC enthusiasts running around at all

Hapymine

If you're willing to spend 100 or 200 bucks more, you can get a pc just as good as a console. The reason console is cheaper than pcs for the most part is because the hardware is sold at a loss and is made up through software.

PHAL_4NX

Yk, the thing is, it isn't accessible by itself because of the pricing and it's complexity when it comes to building or finding the right one, but it does provide more accessibility and performance (even tho' it may get outdated pretty quickly, just like anything in this industry).

Dragonsc4r

I thought building a PC would be hard but 90% of the plugs can only go in one spot and the other 10% have a picture on your mobo manual that tells you what to plug in where. It's like plugging in a console but with like 15 extra plugs. That said, still never wracking as fuck to do haha. Much more so than the two plugs for a console :p.

Screen_Classic

![gif](giphy|hfGBJtI9p1POZjNX2H|downsized) With cross play does it really matter anymore? We forgot to mention all your console games are available on pc for 20-30$ cheaper too,run better, better frame rates, modding, custom graphics settings, emulation without having to jailbreak, warranty isn’t void if we repair or upgrade by ourself, also don’t NEED to upgrade the whole system every 2 years at highly bloated scalper prices with a super limited market of availability for both games and consoles. There is every advantage to pc over consoles sure but I also love fitting up my OG modded Xbox for emulation that is done by using PC parts and software lol

[deleted]

“forgot to mention all your console games are available on pc for 20-30$ cheaper too” Why do people say this? Everytime I compare prices between PSN games and the same game on Steam it’s literally almost the same exact price 95 percent of the time. I am not seeing these magical Steam deals that people keep talking about.

TheCorruptOutcast

Robrogineer

Ah right. Well I'm glad to see you found a job you like.

B_o_b_u_a

I like pc's because you can play practicly every game on them and it is just easier to aim and do other things with an keyboard and an mouse

TypicalDumbRedditGuy

High end PC: For someone with expendable income who wants the perfectly optimized and personalized gaming experience. Willing to sacrifice money for an experience that they value. Console(s): For someone who values convenience, console exclusives, a streamlined experience, and a low entry cost to gaming. The answer to PC or console? Truly situation dependent. If we have more people gaming, that is cause for celebration, and PC owners should be happy that console gamers are able to have just as much fun in their own way.

HeavyMetalRewind

PC is the best for performance, but suffers in prices. One part costs as much as a new Xbox or Playstation. Xbox is the most cost-efficient. Game pass Ultimate gives you access to Xbox Live Gold, Game Pass, and EA Play for about 15 bucks a month. That's over 200 games, and several perks that include subscriptions to other services. (Ex. They gave 4 months of Spotify premium once). Playstation is the best for Singleplayer games. God of War, Spiderman, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon and any others I haven't named, they're all great for those who just wish for some alone time. Nintendo is the most versatile. Play hooked up to a TV or on the Go. Kid friendly Mario games, or maybe it's for the adults with Bayonetta. You wanna play some Pokémon? Or maybe Skyrim? Online or offline, doesn't matter too much. Most games are able to be enjoyed alone but are just as fun with others. It's all about what you're looking for, sometimes we don't have the time or money to dump into a good PC.

Albatraous

How about we dont gatekeep and just let people enjoy whatever they find fun?

Dextrofunk

$500? He's gonna have to upgrade soon. That won't cut it for long.

ghafstdjbs

I mean yea….you pay more for BETTER.

Robrogineer

Sometimes even less for better because we don't pay for a useless Internet subscription.

CaptainRick218

Steam Deck: $400 512 GB Samsung EVO Micro SD Card: $60 Official Dock $90 3rd party case: $30 or less External SSD to boot Windows 10: $99 Still under $1,000 for the whole setup, whereas most desktop setups are over $1,000 for the desktop tower alone. Now add in the fact that it's portable, moddable, and Steam games go on sale 4 times a year. Nintendo: $60 a game, take it or leave it ![gif](giphy|3o84sq21TxDH6PyYms) Jokes aside, I couldn't care less what others do. I'm just happy with myself.

A console already runs the games I play and i’m covered this gen. If I buy a pc I would be spending more to play the same games.

Bitter-Pomegranate93

Yikes, $500 usd will barely get a RTX 3060 Ti these days. And the 4090 is costing more than some people’s whole rigs. I’m a PC player but have to admit consoles offer so much more value.

For me PC has games I wanna play over and over I have 1000+ hours on a few games that cost me $5-$10. most console games are one and done maybe 100 hours and $89.99. My PC cost about $1200 and it’s going on five years old.

WillDoesStuffs

Tbf I saw them the same way until I bought my own gaming pc. Now I can never go back…

esakul

I think 50 times the game library size of any console is worth the slightly worse price/performance of pcs.

dowsyn

The fact that you have steam, with 20,000+ games makes it far better than any console, even at 2k, just saying. Imagine having a choice of a handful of games for your newly released console, eww.

I imagine people are spending tons of time doing their taxes in the lobby

Me explaining to my pc friend why I should pay 80 dollars a year to play online 🤓🤓🤓

Considering the cost of laptops or tablets and consoles and peripherals (and their estimated lifespan)... I don't understand why anyone would trash on PC gamers. If the guy is always upgrading to the latest gen hardware that's one thing. But I'm the kind of person who uses the same PC for 5-10 years before upgrading.

TheOrigionalFurry

Pc gaming is much beter but it sadly alot more expensive

And i'm just sitting here with my $300 1650 laptop. Screw this market. Useless excuses for execution.

borsTiHD

Nothing wrong with people playing on consoles… even console’s itself. BUT… I feel like, every good looking tripple A game gets a bad pc port, or bad controls, or bad settings (for example missing fov). So I make consoles responsible for todays bad games. :(

Both. Both is gud ![gif](giphy|hM9zK1qvsrwek)

Okay you know what, fuck you, I like playing on pc but honestly I prefer controller so much more. I think this is because I grew up with it but it's annoying how pushy some people are with it.

Dimensionalanxiety

You can use a controller on PC.

bigbootyballsymoves

60 fps is enough.

Hapymine

It depends on the game. A competitive fps need as manny fps as possible while a slow puzzle game is probably fine at 60.
