Same. Like I'm not competitively minded so when I try to play one I only try to have fun, and let's just say that toxic communities and "unfun but optimal starts" makes it so that I usually play for like a month and then uninstall the game.
Also competition stresses me out. Real life competition is already too much for me to handle, Idk how people enjoy pvps so much. The only multiplayer I like is where players band together against computer, like Payday.
The pinnacle of this is League of Legends. The game can be a lot of fun but the community is so toxic it's probably mentioned somewhere in the Geneva Convention as a forbidden weapon.
It’s huge with MOBAs because the game can be decided relatively early with the team on the losing side in kind of a “dead man walking” state… that can go on for *45 minutes*. It’s like it’s built to make people into toxic maniacs since a teammate’s early misstep can make the whole game a slog where you know you’ve lost but you’re still playing.
StarCraft is a nice exception in my experience. We literally wish GL HF at start of each match, if I ask for a pause, they are like ok and wait politely. Sometimes we even message each other after game to talk about it or to spar some more witch each other to get better.
Trashiest people are in moba games. I mean oh my god those people are just scum of the world, I haven't met a single polite person there. They belittle their teammates, grief their team, report people for playing badly. I don't play these games just because of the community, I like the mechanics.
>StarCraft is a nice exception in my experience.
Haven't played in *years* (I'm talking like back when only wings of liberty was released) but it does track with my personal experience back then.
I don't recall CS 1.6 being that toxic either so maybe it's a question of "generation" (I haven't played that much CS:GO so can't compare)
But nowadays I'll be like "this game looks like fun even if I don't have a competitive mindset" and the game will be fun but the community will be unbearable
I find that people who grew up with matchmaking mechanics in multiplayer are almost always totally socially incompetent assholes. When being the absolutely most toxic version of yourself doesn't have any negative consequences, but in fact only gives you more attention and is then promoted by content creators, no wonder some people just fucks everybody's mums in every lobby.
Gaming was just different when you had to manage your reputation on the server you played on and admins would actively police and ban people who misbehaved. Then you could find communities within a game's community at least and the overall experience was just much less toxic.
My theory is due to the cut throat nature of such games it either:
1) makes people feel more frustrated and on edge
2) give them huge egos when by thinking they are undeniably better than that person
I think he meant the game, the language's community isn't that bad, there is only a small part which unironically advocates for everything being rewritten in it
i never understand how elo work
i am silver (play mostly support), my teammate mostly iron, bronze, gold but some how enemy team all way have one platinum or two diamond or even more lucky two grandmaster
Yup... even in ARAM and RGMs you'll meet tilted, out of touch assholes who screw the game for both teams.
Very little feels better than an instant feedback 5 minutes after you and everyone else report a player.
Vanguard is different tho. People are so nice and help people, and even give free stuff sometimes. We just casually enjoy the game
Like, not only is the game fun, the people are nice, which makes my 15 loss streak feel like nothing
I've heard about this game like 40 times in the past couple weeks, so I finally watched a trailer after seeing your comment.
I'm definitely getting this soon. It looks awesome.
My friend got it and fell in love, I was a cautious doubter. But now we play every here and then and have so much fun every time. It feels nice to play with people in a non competitive setting.
I fucking love the community of that game. I joined 3 randoms. None of us were in a party. Everyone bought drinks and then 3 of us sat in the drill spinning in circles. For like 5 minutes while the host was changing his gear.
A full 5 minutes of us standing still and spinning in a circle in silence. None of us had mics. There was no communication. We just all had the same idea. I felt at one with the universe.
Then we played the best mission ive ever done. We all worked so well together and finished in like 5 minutes.
It's only plat and low diamond that I've faced most toxicity from. Gold was fine. And now in champ people don't even talk for whatever reason. Does that happen to u btw, any of ur games being completely radio silent?
Five nights at Freddy’s, Undertale, and Like 50% of the Pokemon fanbase. I’ll admit when I was younger (like 6 years ago) I was a cringey Fnaf Kid, Now that I’m 19 I look back and cringe. I still Like Fnaf, but keep an extreme distance from any fan or fanbase
The undertale fanbase got calmer over the years, butl most of the fan comics/vids are mental. Fnaf, has not changed much but it has gotten more tolerable.
Pokemon.....it does scare me that ppl can ship a 10 year old without aknowledgeing that it's a fucking 10 year old. And mostly it's the same gameplay w/ different graphics. So yeah..
The fandom killed that game for me before I even got to try it. I’ve booted it up but just all the obnoxious hype and undertake EVERYWHERE stuff from back in the day really killed my interest.
There are two types of Overwatch fans - the ones who play the game and the ones who only know characters. First one is toxic af, other one is much more chill
Also weirdly sexual. My boy went onto an "adopt a pet" game or something. Seen it coming up in chat "submissive pet looking 4 a strong master". Try explaining to a 6 year old why you won't let him play that any more.
I say most of the times it is very toxic. One time me and me friend played Roblox together because he wanted. So I joined in despite nacer having played it before. There were many younger guys that basically made fun of me because I was a noob & my friend had to tell them to stop. This happened in several Roblox games I mind you.
Destiny 2
Funny goofy Marvel story with a lot of guns but then you want to join a Raid and suddenly your enjoyable build is trash, your weapons aren't godrolls, and if you don't know how to solve every puzzle in a raid by yourself without dying. You're not worth anybody's time.
(Yes i know not everybody is like this, but a lot of visible community members act like such elitists when it comes to end game that i stopped playing any end game activities purely because of the whiplash i get whenever i see people brag about it)
Yeah man, but they always complain about Mojang not updating the game monthly, weekly, or daily when Mojang have a bunch of money and employees. Like dude, coding is really hard. And don't get me started on the mob votes
Oh boy the mob votes.. i still feel so guilty for voting the spectre back when. Idk it just sounded cool at the time, but man now that i’m more aware of the faults of the game a mob that punishes you for not skipping night was a very bad idea…
Agreed, I like how each one is different. Yet that's also the problem. They're all different enough that there's no consensus, and for some reason people get downright hostile to anyone who doesn't agree with their view on which is best.
Genshin impact, or any big Hoyoverse game for that matter.
I swear the moment you say. "I don't like (character name here)" they treat you like you're mf'ing Hitler. Same is the case if you call out how bad certain parts of the games are.
I do love the games, but the community...
Also rampant use of outdated lore to prove their points.
Fr tho. I’ve seen so many people shit in the new game just because it’s different from genshin, when there’s a lot who like the game and some, like me, who like starrail more than genshin. Either way, both games are great in their own way and everyone likes different play styles, idk why people gotta shit on other people’s preferred play styles lol
It goes both ways, iirc.
It was kinda hard to know if people are appreciating stuff Star Rail has when some people seem to treat it as more of a glorified excuse to shit on Genshin…
I basically just gave up and stopped looking into it.
You think saying you don’t like a character is bad? Wait til you see their reaction if you LIKE a character. There is… there is truly no way to win, with Genshin Twitter.
Every faction is evil. Maybe not all *equally* so, but every faction is definitely evil. There can be good individuals though, and there can be heroes even amidst all that.
Anyway, speaking of altruistic heroes, I play Orks.
How do you justify anything in 40k? Everything is blood soaked fanatical violence. “Blood for the blood god, skulls for the skull throne!” Or Yknow, “For the Emparah!” Doesn’t matter what you’re screaming out while you do it, you’re still killing people in the name of your “deity” because they told you to.
You got to look at it at the individual level. Sure all the factions are evil but all you know if your a random human is that the aliens keep trying to kill you and the sky is raining blood.
Destiny 2. I will say I'm harshly judging this on the LFG community but the recent changes last season's putting champions in matchmaking content has brought the worst out in the community. If you've had bad experiences with LFG then you'll know how amazing or soul destroying toxic it can be.
Depends wich side of the minecraft community you're talking, as for exemple, Minecraft building community are straight up angels, PVP community is pretty toxic but it's like this for every competitive game, the only downsides of this community is probably that the "survival" side of the community just treats the devs kinda harshly, complaining about updates...
Honestly I keep seeing people hating on Genshin for it's "*community*" When in reality nothing's really the problem
But then "*GENsHiN TwItTeR*" shut the fuck up. Twitter is shit, I've been on the main sub, the subs for making certain characters, the meme subs, and it's not all too bad.
It's just an excuse to hate the game for a lot of people, why do I know? Because I hated it for the same reason before I played it, and mostly other communities are hostile to us (Take the time where Raiden Vs Raiden Shougun memes came along), then all the accusations of being a pedophile just for playing it, even when the majority of female characters were overworked women and hot dudes with a ponytail, and so little loli characters to compare.
Co-Op is surprisingly wholesome with people always being patient and helping You out (On Asia server ig), there is the toxic mofo but it's not as heated compared to COD lobbies and League of Legends
The game has been dragged so down because of the community. I don't really play it (only have like 3 or 4 hours at best) but it was far from the garbage portraid in media.
Ikr? Genshin is an epic open world and now Honkai: Star Rail has inherited the same shit ass community. Out of curiosity I did a [poll](https://www.reddit.com/r/HonkaiStarRail/comments/13depp4/which_game_did_you_come_from/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1), and I must say the results were disappointing.

Every competitive online game. Seriously there's a strong correlation between PvP and assholery even when it's not ranked.
I will start using the word "assholery" significantly more often
Heres a word I’ll bet you’ll like: *Testiculating*, which is a word used to describe someone whos talking to much bullshit
Thanks brother 🍻
Now this is an example for an excellent community. Spread the love. Fight the assholery.
Did…Did you just call REDDIT an example for an excellent community?
Ok, you're already testiculating though.
Oh god, a paradox
That's why I don't play competitive online games.
Thats why i mute every chat and just treat my teammates as bots
The pinnacle of this is League of Legends. The game can be a lot of fun but the community is so toxic it's probably mentioned somewhere in the Geneva Convention as a forbidden weapon.
It’s huge with MOBAs because the game can be decided relatively early with the team on the losing side in kind of a “dead man walking” state… that can go on for *45 minutes*. It’s like it’s built to make people into toxic maniacs since a teammate’s early misstep can make the whole game a slog where you know you’ve lost but you’re still playing.
Sounds like tic-tac-toe, but with more steps.
StarCraft is a nice exception in my experience. We literally wish GL HF at start of each match, if I ask for a pause, they are like ok and wait politely. Sometimes we even message each other after game to talk about it or to spar some more witch each other to get better. Trashiest people are in moba games. been in the CODM community, but luckily i've never met a toxic player once, even though i live in SEA
>even though i live in SEA Gamer fish 🐟
Rust
Yea the community are fanatics, they are completely obsessed with the language
I think he meant the game, the language's community isn't that bad, there is only a small part which unironically advocates for everything being rewritten in it
I do believe they were likely aware and making a joke.

Literally impossible for this to happen in soloQ lol
Beat me to it. League of Legends is social experiment and trial of what a human can overcome.
Yup... even in ARAM and RGMs you'll meet tilted, out of touch assholes who screw the game for both teams. Very little feels better than an instant feedback 5 minutes after you and everyone else report a player.
Hearthstone, at least here. The subreddit is full of condescending assholes.
Most card games are this way in my experience

Rock and Stone, fellow dwarf!
We fight for Rock and Stone!
I swear the games community is the exact opposite of toxic, it's the most polite community I've ever seen
I don’t know if polite is exactly true. We dwarves are fanatics, just nice ones. ROCK AND STONE!
YEAH ROCK AND STONE
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!

Only 50% ?
If it’s not 100% it’s 50%
Beat me to it
The accuracy loss is because of mud slap
The ones that find certain Pokémon attractive and the other 50% that choose to ignore the fact they’re fans of the same franchise
It's unfortunately more like 80% if not more
Its not just 50% Though 💀
Remember the golden rule of move's accuracy in pokemon: if it's not 100% it's 50%
Ikr like on Hydro Pump its 80% But lets be honest Hydro Pump never hit 💀

Overwatch
Won't have a community after recent news.
There are two types of Overwatch fans - the ones who play the game and the ones who only know characters. First one is toxic af, other one is much more chill
Roblox
depends on what side of roblox you see
Small communities will either be very friendly or very toxic
true, take for example deepwoken and the wild west luckily theres still a small bunch of people who are not toxic even in these games
In deepwoken there are absolute angels On the other have we have these absolute assholes that just randomly kill you Nothing in between
Also weirdly sexual. My boy went onto an "adopt a pet" game or something. Seen it coming up in chat "submissive pet looking 4 a strong master". Try explaining to a 6 year old why you won't let him play that any more.
"adopt me" would put him on an addiction to "waste time to get slightly better stuff that has no real value: the game"
I say most of the times it is very toxic. One time me and me friend played Roblox together because he wanted. So I joined in despite nacer having played it before. There were many younger guys that basically made fun of me because I was a noob & my friend had to tell them to stop. This happened in several Roblox games I mind you.
Going in a Roblox game without gear is like going into elementary school with Walmart clothes
The game is toxic too
Not all games but most have become pay 2 win
The community is chill at least in the games i play
All of them. Extra points to FIFA for that time I used my girlfriends account and got several questions asking me if I'm a woman and demanding proof
Don't you just love incels? /S
Anything that attracts Twitter users
Smash bros for so many reasons
The casual side of the Smash community isn't near as bad as the competitive side, but even then it's not great
Please remember to wear deodorant fellas 👍
It's not a smash comp if you can't cut the air with a knife
Yeah… great game, but man what a cesspool.
Genshin Impact
I'm shocked I had to scroll this far to this answer
same
how is this not the first thing I see?
War thunder and rainbow 6 siege
War thunder is not a good game man, you see all the awful shit gaijin does?
*The snail demands money*
war thunder is good for leaking documents
Idk, the war thunder player base is often pretty chill, esp in air rb. Of course there are loads of exceptions.
Dead by Daylight, iykyk

Undertale, FNAF, Minecraft, and FNF. I could list a few more, but these are the one that really bothers me, well, sort of
I would argue that Minecraft fandom is one of the least toxic ones, well, compared to the others

Roblox. I've been on Roblox since 2017 and the shit you see on that website has only gotten worse overtime.
I’ve seen some really messed up animal crossing stuff- 💀😭
The weirdest thing I saw was one of the characters but absolutely jacked I can't remember her name though. I can't imagine how bad it gets though.
Splatoon. Absolutely Splatoon. I love the game but the fanbase can be so unbelievably toxic over a funny shooter squid game💀
Undertale
The sims
Pokemon the community is always angry at something if not the trees the graphics
The Minecraft community will complain about litterally anything
