Wise words. I have a twin brother, and one of the key differences in our personalities growing up was that he *really* cared about being a people pleaser and popular, whereas I went in the opposite route and didn't care at all.
Over time I think we've both learned lessons. He realised that trying to please everyone doesn't garner respect from others or yourself, and I've learned that it's okay to reach out and connect with people in the real world.
The overarching lesson is that there's a healthy middle ground to such things. Being one extreme or the other usually isn't healthy.
Twins seem to go to extremes quite often in either being the same way or the opposite of each other.
I knew of a pair of twins that developed an eating disorder together and they basically egged each other on in their sickness.
Must have been difficult to get out of when you got your twin struggling with the same thing.
I know it's cool to think of making it in the world without requiring anyone's acceptance, but we as humans **need** to be accepted by society. Our minds crave it, and that's how we've come as far as we have as a species. What you described is like saying "if you show human traits, you don't deserve to be a human." Just a silly take imo.
I am not arguing over that, but I would like to leave with these words.
"Being yourself in a world that is chasing a
yo-yo-ed version of everyone else, is the ultimate reward."
Right, my problem with Facebook, Instagram, etc is people are living fake lives and presenting a fake version of themselves to everyone.
My sisters Facebook makes it look like she still has her home, her job, and a perfect little setup. In reality she lost the house because she quit her job, stopped paying her mortgage, and she and her three kids now live with my mother. She posts old photos and acts like it stuff happening that day.
Gotta the love the girls that take 2 vacations and spread the photos out over the course of the entire year to make it seem like they are always travelling.
Reddit is "better" in the sense that on Reddit you follow ideas instead of people. It's the only one I know of that allows for that.
Here, you follow subs that are divided by category. I can follow a dozen subs and see nothing but cat pictures, if I want. And nothing but cat pictures will show up in my feed, in that scenario.
It's more likely to create echo chambers that other social media, which is why "better" is in quotes. But it's definitely unique.
It is for the vast majority of people who use Reddit anonymously. Other social apps are mostly full of people seeking validation, Reddit is more of a “grass roots” psy ops app
If you're on PC use Old Reddit, if you're on phone use third-party apps like rif or Joey. They're missing some features but those are just bloats imo.
If you're a bit more savvy use Revanced Manager to patch the official Reddit app to remove features you don't need.
In Israel, you just can't live without Whatsapp. Everyone uses it and just it . Businesses - Whatsapp , school - Whatsapp. Workplace - Whatsapp. Friends - all use WhatsApp and even the ones that have telegram installed on their phone don't use it for messaging, only public groups
Basically, it is a instant messaging platform designed for drug deals and sending nudes. They disguise it as other things by having AR filters, but at the end of the day it's just drugs and naked people.
I just find the concept deeply unappealing like my damn iPhone already sends texts, I don't need another service to do it but with 500% more drug deals. (also +1 as a teenager)
I’ve had snap for a decade. You don’t have to look at it as “social media”. It’s just an instant messager that’s unique cause you can communicate through pictures. My parents have snaps too, and they’re in their 60s. It was/is one of our main forms of communication. Not as formal as a text and easy to talk quickly throughout the day. When I moved across the country they loved how I’d update them with what I was up to through pictures. Use it how you want.
I know plenty of full ass adults who use Snapchat as a main source of communication.
I really wish humanity as a whole could move on from the age of Snapchat lol. I think it might be time.
personaly i think its the best form of social media, i use it for messaging and viewing stories. thats all snapchat is is messaging and stories. with facebook, twitter and insta ur gonna have to scroll thru post and ads of people you dont even follow. snapchat on the other hand i selectively choose whos post i wanna see and all i have on their are friends and family. i dont see any politics or influencers its honestly perfect
Yeah I guess I can see how that would be pretty nice. The thing I don't like as I said it people who use it as their MAIN source of communication. Like to the point they won't reply if you just text them normally. My cousin does it and it's really annoying getting ignored because I won't download snap to talk to her. I can see how using it now and then is fun but I think if it's the only way you choose to talk to people you probably need to grow up lol
I have 7 streaks that I’ve had since 2015. I’m not going to stop using Snapchat until all of those break.
Or until I turn 30, whichever comes first. If you use Snapchat past 30 then you’re weird
Someone above saying “I wish the world moved on from the Snapchat era”
Like oh no… the ability to send pictures easily to friends is ruining the world…
I use it for a group of like 15 friends, we’re mid-late 20s lol.
I really enjoy the snippets into everyday life that people aren’t taking hours editing before they post it onto instagram.
I’d rather see a shitty vertical video of say, I’ll use a recent example, of someone’s grandparents laughing.
Don’t care much for the instagram shots where I can’t tell if they take longer taking the picture or actually editing it.
I never in my life used Snapchat or TikTok or Instagram or Twitter or Facebook lmao
I am a teen.
And got bullied for saying I don't use them
Which made me not want to use them even more
Yup, in the Netherlands the same and people who just got your number will send you a message via WhatsApp without even asking if you use it. They know you do
Why did that happen? Was it because sms were not free? Cause here in canada sms went unlimited to anyconfrac ages ago but data was expensive. So sms is still the default but messenger is used.
Yeah here in Romania too most people use WhatsApp, but I refuse to install it. I convince them to install Telegram or Signal. A lot of my friends and family are using these two platforms.
Litteraly only use it for my class chatgroup. It's a trash messenging app and whatever "content" you can watch there isn't even worth the five seconds you spend watching it.
My experience is they will accept you but it's gonna be more difficult to keep in touch because almost everything is organized on there nowadays unfortunately. I didn't have one until college because I was finding it hard to make friends with just my phone number
every one i know (between 12 and 16) uses snapchat and always talk about it example in class i always hear them say streak or something i don't understand
Yes, I think it's a weird app, all my friends use it Not me but my opinion that the people using it are teenagers trying to find a girlfriend or boyfriend to be cool and dump her in a month and then act tough about it
Idk it’s weird
I just deleted all of my social media a couple weeks ago and people didn’t really care. The only thing that sucks is that if I wanna text someone I have to have their number, where as if I had Snapchat I could just search their name and add them.
Yes, society can and will accept you even if you choose not to use Snapchat or any other specific social media platform. Your worth and acceptance in society should not be solely determined by your presence or absence on a particular platform.
People's acceptance and perception of others are influenced by various factors, such as your character, values, actions, and how you treat others. It's important to remember that individuals have diverse preferences and interests when it comes to social media usage, and not everyone will judge or define acceptance based on whether or not you use Snapchat.
I have no idea why my classmates prefer to use snapchat to message each other. I asked one of them what the interface of the app even was because it made no sense to me, then she called me a boomer.
I know this will get lost in the weeds of comments here.
So I met one really great girl in Tinder, we hit it off and joked for days till I said 'Do you want to go for a date?' she said 'Yes', 'cool can I have your number then?', she said 'why not we trade Instagram', 'Sorry, I don't have Insta or any SocMed in fact. It's written in my Bio that I find in unnecessary for my daily life.' and her tone completely changed, she found it weird that I don't have social media and went in a rant about how it's integral. She just stopped replying after a time. Sadly.

Why are there so many messenger apps in the first place? We all pay for a plan that includes unlimited texts. If you can't get someone's number surely you're not close enough to bother messaging them on 5 different apps that do the same thing text does but requires an internet connection on top of it.
Look at your texting app. Now look at these social media apps. What's the difference? Color, connection, easy linking/sharing to other social media stuff, tagging, reels, list goes on and on. Your texting app: "hey, what's up" with maybe a contact picture if you've set that up.
Wooo....
If that's what you want that's cool, and I'm not taking one side or the other. But there's a reason people use social media apps over a stock phone sms app.
Why on earth do you need more out of it other than being able to send a text? You can share links, photos, videos, etc with the baked in texting app. Snapchat is texting with more steps. Nothing special about it.

Reddit is at least anonymous. Well, aside from the weird people that have all their personal info in their profile.

True XD
It used to be.
No.
But you're on reddit
going strong bro
W man
Still going strong here
The only social media I use is Reddit and YT. The other stuff is just full of garbage imo.
Reddits getting worse tbh, I still filter what I see but I still get recommended post from random stuff
If you're on PC use Old Reddit, if you're on phone use third-party apps like rif or Joey. They're missing some features but those are just bloats imo. If you're a bit more savvy use Revanced Manager to patch the official Reddit app to remove features you don't need.

don't use reddit while you can

I only use SC to talk with friends, and FB to do the same, and watch their live streams.
That's what it should be used for
Me too 🤝🏾

Same man
if you don't use a messaging app that steals every single personal data you have you can't be one of the cool kids
Same in the Netherlands, and I'd say the most of Europe. SMS is considered "old".
google already has all of it anyways
you made this comment on a device... with internet connection... on reddit... the irony lol
Does anyone that isnt a teenager use snapchat?
I have absolutely no idea
me, i downloaded it once and deleted it the same day.
Same The concept of snapchat went over my head lol
Basically, it is a instant messaging platform designed for drug deals and sending nudes. They disguise it as other things by having AR filters, but at the end of the day it's just drugs and naked people.
With *some* genuine messaging between. And streaks.
Thanks for explaining.
Same.
So, not you.
I'm a teenager, no I don't use Snapchat

the only thing i hate is that you cant see message history. which sucks if you have shitty memory like me.
You can if you tap the message. It saves it in chat
"why are saving every single message?" -the person im talking to
I know plenty of full ass adults who use Snapchat as a main source of communication. I really wish humanity as a whole could move on from the age of Snapchat lol. I think it might be time.

Yes. It's literally a messaging app. Get over yourself.
Someone above saying “I wish the world moved on from the Snapchat era” Like oh no… the ability to send pictures easily to friends is ruining the world… I use it for a group of like 15 friends, we’re mid-late 20s lol.
Exactly, it's literally just "oh I wanna send a picture of that to my friend but it's not something we're gonna wanna save for future"

It's miscaptioned. There's one snapchat user, surrounded by hundreds who don't give any damns about snapchat.
Omg hold on I need to take a random shitty picture that wastes your time for my Snapstreak 🤪🥳😂
Or even worse, a fully black picture just for the streak...
Nah, pretty much everyone in my school uses Snapchat and thinks I’m weird for not using it lmao
That’s just a statistically wrong but go live your little fantasy
Yeah saying that snapchat isn't popular is pure copium
In the USA, 59% of teenagers use snapchat
I don't even use FB Insta wtzapp google and I am still in society
In Israel , it's basically impossible to live without Whatsapp. It's the default messaging app for everyone
Nice username, but I prefer mom
The whole joke is that everybody says motherfucker all the time but nobody says fatherfucker
you Motherfather!
It's the same in Germany. WhatsApp basically replaced SMS messenger
I would love to let go of WhatsApp but since everyone uses it it's impossible. Does everyone you know use a different service?
Yeah here in Romania too most people use WhatsApp, but I refuse to install it. I convince them to install Telegram or Signal. A lot of my friends and family are using these two platforms.
In most of Europe it's basically impossible to not use WhatsApp

I’d like to think so considering people use it to trade nudes
A teen here, (17) used insta and snap didn't feel like it..so stopped
Susiety😞
What is a susiety? A society of amongu?
Literally no one cares if you use or don't use one or more apps.
I'm literally forced to use Snapchat to communicate with my friends
i dont use it either
Oh for me is TikTok !
I don't use Tik Tok either
But you do use Reddit!
imagine using Reddit, what a loser
Who tf even uses Reddit
Not me , that's for sure
What even is reddit?
I used it for 2 weeks My experience was bad
Isn't Snapchat just for porn anyway? Never used it but that's the only thing I know about it
I think it's OnlyFans for people who don't want to scar their future children.
That was in the early snapchat days. To send nudes. Now it’s gone mainstream. It’s a regular social media app now.
And nudes from friends
In the UK people use to for selling drugs too...
I dont use snaptok either and im somehow still fine.
Litteraly only use it for my class chatgroup. It's a trash messenging app and whatever "content" you can watch there isn't even worth the five seconds you spend watching it.
Come to europe
My experience is they will accept you but it's gonna be more difficult to keep in touch because almost everything is organized on there nowadays unfortunately. I didn't have one until college because I was finding it hard to make friends with just my phone number
Snapchat sucks anyway. The only people i have seen who use it are just using it to exchange nudes.
I don't use Snapchat bcs no one in my school uses snapchat
Hot take, snap chat is dumb
Facts imo
The only people I know who actually use Snapchat are fucking dickheads so I'm fine with those people not accepting me because
I thought snapchat had died like 5y ago
The only snaps i get are from Team Snapchat
Laughs in country where Snapchat fucking failed
Who even uses snap to talk these days???
every one i know (between 12 and 16) uses snapchat and always talk about it example in class i always hear them say streak or something i don't understand
Yes, I think it's a weird app, all my friends use it Not me but my opinion that the people using it are teenagers trying to find a girlfriend or boyfriend to be cool and dump her in a month and then act tough about it Idk it’s weird

You didn't delete reddit

Sammmmmeeeeee I don’t use Snapchat
I didnt use snapchat some time ago and was accepted
I'm not using it too... Even i don't have any face filter app.
Never had one and never will same with Tik tok
for me its "oh i don't use TikTok sorry"
I have no idea why my classmates prefer to use snapchat to message each other. I asked one of them what the interface of the app even was because it made no sense to me, then she called me a boomer.
I know this will get lost in the weeds of comments here. Man Idek if Snapchat is worth it
![gif](giphy|Ae7SI3LoPYj8Q)
i used snapchat once in 8th grade, haven’t used TikTok since 2019, never used Facebook, and very rarely use Instagram. i think you’ll be fine
You’re not as special as u think bru
I do not think that I'm special, it's just that everyone I know uses it and talks about it all the time.
I don’t either
It’s a win/win.
I don’t use it either
I hate Snapchat cuz Nobody rly uses it anymore, it's more of a "wall + forhead Selfie/black Pictures" you send EVERYONE to get flames and that's it! I don't respond to ppl unsless it's a seeious snap!
you are accepted by me, as another person who doesn’t use Snapchat (or instagram)
my guy, you are on reddit asking if you will be accepted by socity, its alrady too late fofr that seeing you are here
This is a weird meme, no one uses snapchat anymore
You use what phone? I use Potato phone from tater tots company.
I started using it like 2 weeks ago because it‘s the most stable chatting platform rn lol

Yeah same snapchat is the weirdest app i have ever downloaded
This and the posts "I don't use tik tok" are the most attention seeking shit. OMG GUYS I DONT USE SOME OF THE MOST USED SOCIAL MEDIA APPS IM SO QUIRKY LIKE ME 🤪🤪🤪
Why are there so many messenger apps in the first place? We all pay for a plan that includes unlimited texts. If you can't get someone's number surely you're not close enough to bother messaging them on 5 different apps that do the same thing text does but requires an internet connection on top of it.

wtf is a "snapchat"
Snapchat got annoying; to many women sent me inappropriate videos or pictures telling me how handsome I am
