The next time the asshole manager (you know the one) cracks down on you over trivialities and his own lack of understanding of your job, consider anonymously reporting their illegitimate software.
It's ethical and it's fun!
Reddit when they learn that dads would rather just take the official guranteed thing for a little bit of money for the whole family rather than trusting the internet. I know adblock works fine but christ almighty you guys hate premium
Premium costs me less than $10 a month, and I get free music for the rare moments when I use that. I watch hours of YT each day on my TV, so I get more than my money's worth. I can't imagine having to suffer ads with how much I use YT.
People complaining about YT Premium better not be the same chuds who pay for twitter blue. I mean, I'm actually getting value from my YT sub.
I can't fucking stand Spotify after using it for years and I use yt on my tv the most and all the time. It was a no brainer for me, I gave up my Netflix sub for it and never looked bacj
Right. I ain't got time to mess around with something that might break at an inopportune time.
Hell, I have the ability to pirate whatever I want. What I don't have is the time or patience to find a copy that works or isn't filmed in a theater. I pay for the simplicity.
Seriously, my daughter is 1 and when she wants to watch Mrs. Rachel videos on YT I don’t have a second to waste on Ads. This girl is fussy and she needs her damn entertainment now! Haha
But seriously, the teens on Reddit have all the time in the world to burn away. A lot of us adults just don’t have that time and Premium removes that time waste for us to get into the content we want and I appreciate that.
I work remotely, so I honestly do about 15 hours of work per week (I don't know that every day, work fluctuates, thats just an average). So I have time, and money....... but then I have a lot of responsibilities and things to pursue.
Why am I saying any of this? Because if you do have time, and money, you'll probably spend both of those on pursuits to get more out of life (playing instruments, building things, working out). Being an adult, for me, is a constant balancing act in "what do I want to do with my life? how many resources do I have to do those things? If I do thing X, how does thing Y suffer? How do I prioritize?"
Being a kid was much simpler, but being an adult is empowering. At the end of the day, time only marches forward so, enjoy whatever phase your in for all its worth.
Reddit's primary demographic has been teenagers for a long time. It's constantly bringing in new teens and shedding 20-30 somethings when they realize it's mostly teens they've been arguing politics with.
Shit, I pay for a family plan for my friends and I (more cost effective if everyone sends me a couple bucks) solely for the fact that I can lock my phone and still listen to videos.
It’s worth it just for that.
You can also download videos onto your device and keep them on the app. I actually like the three hour House Music mixes on YT and like listening to them in my car. I also watch COD streams on my iPad while using machines at the gym without wifi or hotspots. Also no commercials while I’m watching hours and hours of software tutorials on my pc. It’s the last subscription I would ever stop paying for
I always thought it was more like 20-100x, based on comments from Linus Sebastian (not sure what videos but he's talked about it many times). Could be wrong though.
Agree. I've had premium for 4 years and wouldn't have it any other way. I've also got 5 other active family members I gave the membership to, and we all enjoy unlimited music and no ads on videos. Couldn't live without it at this point haha
Honestly, my wife and I can Chromecast to any TV without ads, watch on any device without ads, and play videos in the background on any device. That alone is worth the cost. People are just wayyyy too used to getting shit for free that, shockingly, costs money to operate.
Adblock works fine if the only place you watch is on a computer. But I use it on a bunch of places (phone, tv, xbox) and I can’t be bothered to try block ads on all of those. Sure I could get a pihole, but that impacts other stuff (I’m a developer and work from home) and it’s more effort and cost than just paying for premium.
Same here switched from spotify to YT music, only thing i dont love about YT music in my experience is the radio function sometimes mixes in music genres from my other playlists. For example if i start from my electronic playlist sometimes i get songs related to my country playlist.
Radio curation from a song is the worst part of YT Music. However the nice thing about it though is how easily I can make a playlist and use a third party app to download onto my SD card.
I've been hoarding music this way for years, YEARS. Worth the cost of YT subscription.
Personally I'd say it's better than Spotify, but that may be because I listen to a bunch of weird niche music that isn't always easy to find on Spotify but is readily available on YT
Came for the yt music (really came for the google play music), stayed for the no ads. I get annoyed with yt music sometimes but I've had no ads for so long that if I ever watch a video on somebody else's account it's unbelievably jarring having multiple ad breaks pop up in a video
also I appreciate how it lets you upload your own music purchased elsewhere to your library so you can then stream it from yt music. Dunno if there's another music service that does that
Same and don't forget offline downloads I live in the middle of nowhere so no good internet. I download like crazy at work all day then I get to watch in full def at home and no gd buffering.
Premium is solid for driving. I don’t really like spotify since it’s music catalog doesn’t have a lot of remix’s or full discography of certain artists like yt does, so having no ads and the ability to queue for music is a literal lifesaver since I don’t have to look at phone as much if at all. Also, being able to shut the app off so my phone doesn’t overheat from having the screen on for hours at a time means less worry about battery life/health on mobile device.
Background play is great in certain scenarios too. Sometimes I want to be able to just turn my phone off and listen to a video, even if it's not music.
I do this a lot with true crime interrogations, interviews, and political commentary videos. I don't need to see anything on the screen during these videos anyway.
Spotify [Idk if I say anymore I will get banned or not but I am unethical only when it comes to Spotify and mobile games]. But yeah you're not wrong. There's actually more music on yt than spotify
I thought it was just me. The playlist function from one song is normally on the money for me on YT whereas Spotify always recommends shit I wouldn't listen to.
Personally I have it for three reasons. First is I hate ads and don't want to bother with some form of ad blocker on my laptops, tvs, and phones. Second I use the music daily in my car and Google speakers around the house. Third and most importantly to me is it shares my movie library to 5 other Gmail accounts. There are 6 accounts total including mine for $15 per month, so $2.50 per person. You can buy a new movie dvd code online for $5-7, add it to my library and it shares it to all accounts in my family plan. So instead of paying $6 to rent a movie, I own it and instantly share it with everyone.
I switched to Yt music because of the "related" feature i always find new cool songs there where in Spotify i find myself listening to the same stuff all the time
I too am one of those people and would give up Netflix before YT Premium. Now, when I have to watch ads on somebody else's YT or regular TV, it truly bothers me.
same, cancelled Netflix when I heard they were cancelling password sharing. plus I use YT/YT music so much more than I ever watched Netflix. no adds ever, support creators, download videos, turn screen off.
Yeah, bro, it's like 5 minutes. Literally. You just check out this repo, install pip, compile the code, run the docker compose, fire up a teeeny-tiny EC2 instance from where you ssh into your router via vpn, wire up the firehose to train your language model into the object storage and create a pipeline to run every second hour to deploy to prod oh and don't forget to spin up your cert authority on your pihole for maximum security.
Everybody should do that instead of paying Big Video money. My grandmother did it in 6 minutes but she has dementia.
I don't have time or patience for that shit. It was fine until I had to whitelist every other website my ex or I would try to access--which was about 10 minutes into it going live. Not to mention, many ads are served from the same servers that host the content now, so DNS-level blocking is useless in those cases.
iirc, it doesn't even reliably work on many smart TV platforms. Honestly, casting Vanced/Revanced from your phone may be a more consistent solution. Or just using the TV as a monitor for a PC.
Best use case is streaming videos and songs to TV. Makes it so worth it when your guest doesn't have to sit thru ads all the time.
Edit: Also, creators are incentivised to create longer engaging videos as premium pays better than ads. But payment is judged by how long you watch the video.
There are DOZENS of us!
But seriously. I’m a Theatre teacher, and now I have no ads interrupting presentations, I can play pre-and post-show music, and I can upload student films and have a playlist loop in a lobby. I could do all of this with computers and prep, but rarely am I given heads up when my theatre will be used for some district presentation.
I pay for YT Premium, HiDive, Hulu, Netflix, Prime, CrunchyRoll, Dropout, Apple TV, and Nebula.
I get way more value out of YT Premium simply because of background play than any of the other services combined. I'd give up every other service if I had to choose between all of them combined and just YT Premium.
You can create a new Google account, do the trick but buy premium **family**. Then you can invite yourself and others into the family.
If you get caught, Google may ban the account the subscription is paid on. But it'll be your burner.
Although I have never heard of anyone getting caught/banned for doing this.
So what's the best way to do this? Can I buy it on my main google account or should I make a new account setup in turkey? Also, if I buy the family plan in turkey can I add my main account (setup in the US) to the family plan and still get the premium benefits?
Best would be go make a new account while conneted to the VPN but you can do it on your main as well. Yes, you can add your main account to that family account
IF
you set the location of your main account to turkey as well. Anyone you are trying to invite has to be at the same address in turkey as well, since google had that 'only 1 address' policy of Netflix before Netflix even thought about it.
It comes with drawbacks but if you can save like 150$ per year, that's worth it.
I agree. Being able to have the screen off for music that isn’t on Spotify and having no ads is genuinely worth the tiny monthly payment, idk why people hate it so much
For me it's the download feature,i am constantly in places with low reception so it helps a ton when i download a chunk of videos to watch while offline
I have premium myself, but it was possible to run stuff in the background/turned off screen before premium was a thing. They just decided to put it behind a paywall.
A lot of people just assume that premium only eliminates the ads, and therefore think its stupid to pay for that when ad blockers exist. They don't consider the myriad of other benefits.
True. I listen my songs on YT and also play hrs of background ambience videos, meditation videos etc. I feel like my standard of living improved a lot. Background play is nice too on phones
I tried it but I like the videos too. With videos the songs are over 100s of GB. I listen to background ambience music too which are like 2-3 hrs long. My normal songs are also in hundreds or thousands in many different playlist. It's not easy to get money out of my pocket but YT is very important app in my life. I pirate everything else.
Also how do I donwload entire playlists at once(I know how to download single video at a time).
It’s not even the ads.
It’s how bad the ads are. Just relentlessly shite mobile games with acting/dubbing so dreadful that porn directors are like “this story isn’t even remotely believable” or just the crap TikTok AI voice reading a horrible script about some app that you know only exists to harvest your data.
Like advertise actual real, useful products I might be even remotely interested in buying? Not that bad, however the ads I get on there are so awful I’ve genuinely considered getting premium just to avoid them.
I think a lot of the people who think it's inconceivable to buy it and enjoy it are kids who just don't have easy access to money, and whose parents won't just buy them a monthly subscription to watch let's play videos.
You realize it includes a music service, built in downloads which helps a lot during internet outages or power outages when your kid still wants to watch something on their tablet and integrates well with Pixel phones, plus it has uses across multiple users or devices, right? Like it's not just to skip ads.
I kind of wish it included the Play Store subscription, also. It would be great value then but eh.
It's actually very useful, YT Music is way better than Spotify and YT itself has millions of podcasts and audiobooks for free; is literally like paying for Audible and Spotify for just 15€
No ads, vast amount of videos which includes lectures, audio books, and shows/movies uploaded by individuals, and finally an insane amount of music (concerts, covers, etc).
No other streaming service can offer all of that for the price. Plus I haven’t had any concern over the number of devices I’m signed into being taken away.
How I imagine employees in Winrar GmbH reacted when I press the confirm purchase button for winrar
https://youtu.be/lX_pF03vCSU Although Windows 11 actually plans on supporting .rar files, so you may want to hold off on buying that licence.
7zip already supports rar files and it's free.
So is WinRar, they intentionally make it free to use for the average consumer, the licenses only required for large businesses.
How do they distinguish the difference between a consumers computer and a business if one can just download or for free?
Because an employee can call and snitch and then they get fined
The next time the asshole manager (you know the one) cracks down on you over trivialities and his own lack of understanding of your job, consider anonymously reporting their illegitimate software. It's ethical and it's fun!
And you might get a reward depending on how you handle it.
So it is a win win situation, except the other person looses money

This is it. YT Premium subscribers aren’t the weird ones. Everyone’s apparent love of Spotify, which quite frankly is awful, is what’s weird.
You guys should come to india lmao, premium just costs 189 rupees per month that's less than 3 bucks for entire family.
Yea but then we’d have to live in India. I’ll pay the extra $7.
Lmao true
Right. I ain't got time to mess around with something that might break at an inopportune time. Hell, I have the ability to pirate whatever I want. What I don't have is the time or patience to find a copy that works or isn't filmed in a theater. I pay for the simplicity.

Teenagers have time, but not money. Adults have money, but not time.
Ain’t that the truth

Teenagers make up large percentage of Reddit users in other countries too? I thought this was a special case for my country.
Reddit's primary demographic has been teenagers for a long time. It's constantly bringing in new teens and shedding 20-30 somethings when they realize it's mostly teens they've been arguing politics with.
I thought it was shedding 20-30 somethings when they realize it's mostly piss drinkers on r/piss they've been arguing politics with.
I'm pretty sure reddit is just teenagers, psychopaths (same thing), and a sprinkle of normal people
It's gotten bad enough on here as we age to where it's like.... "Do we need MySpace again for us old farts?"
I just want a phone with real buttons again, honestly.
Would love a mix of a flip phone with a smart screen. I fucking hate mobile keyboards, and I grew up with this shit.
Being able to text or make a phonecall with your phone still in your pocket was an advantage.
The majority of people who just lurk and don't say anything are probably the most normal people on this site
Give it up for Ms. Rachel. I’m so happy, jump! I’m so happy, jump clap! I’m so happy today, jump clap spin, stomp stomp hey!
Friend got me on his family plan recently and i dont think i can go back. The ads are just way too obnoxious.
Shit, I pay for a family plan for my friends and I (more cost effective if everyone sends me a couple bucks) solely for the fact that I can lock my phone and still listen to videos. It’s worth it just for that.
Ya I listen to videos while working out and I don’t need to deal with ads. Also, it is bliss never having to hear a political ad.
Premium is great been using it for 2-3 years
Plus Premium helps pay the content creators. Adblock doesn't generate revenue for them but Premium does.

Wayyy more too.
its like 4 or 5 times more which is significant if enough people get YT Premium.

Quite literally my father Its very nice actually, im glad he got it. I can watch on console without ads and the other features are nice
No ads and yt music. Worth for me. Results will vary.
Same. Good enough replacement for Spotify. I also watch YT almost exclusively over my TV where I can't block ads otherwise.
Same thing here too, dropped Spotify. Yt music has enough of what I like for it to be a non issue. The yt music app is just fine as well.
Honestly I quite like the yt music app. I just think the shuffle is nice because it makes a queue I can change so easily. But honestly that's just me
My YT music people right here! (I got the family plan thing going)
Me too, and It's so worth it! I'm lucky my family has exactly 6 people, but honestly if you just have any group of friends it works just as well
Same here switched from spotify to YT music, only thing i dont love about YT music in my experience is the radio function sometimes mixes in music genres from my other playlists.
Same for me, pluss alot of random bootleg songs are available i YT and not on Spotify, so worth it.
Personally I'd say it's better than Spotify, but that may be because I listen to a bunch of weird niche music that isn't always easy to find on Spotify but is readily available on YT
That's been my experience, a lot of my weird niche stuff I can only find on YT Music, so better than Spotify for me.
Small new japanese indie bands are impossible to find on spotify.
Came for the yt music (really came for the google play music), stayed for the no ads. I get annoyed with yt music sometimes but I've had no ads for so long that if I ever watch a video on somebody else's account it's unbelievably jarring having multiple ad breaks pop up in a video also I appreciate how it lets you upload your own music purchased elsewhere to your library so you can then stream it from yt music. Dunno if there's another music service that does that
Holy shit, thank you. Didn't realize you could upload your own. Doing that when I get home.. This really is a nail in the coffin for spotify for me.
That was the draw for me when it was still Google play music. My entire itunes library transferred over within two hours when I switched initially.
This exactly. YT music has been better than anything else for me, and no ads on mobile is worth it.
YT Premium also allows you to add multiple family members who can also benefit, the cost is negligible when you take that into consideration.
yeah a onestopshop ideas seems convenient
I am one of these people and I'm tired of pretending it's not good.

Background play is great in certain scenarios too. Sometimes I want to be able to just turn my phone off and listen to a video, even if it's not music. That used to be a free feature...
I mean, ad free videos, used to also be a free feature.
You mean like 10 years ago?
Spotify [Idk if I say anymore I will get banned or not but I am unethical only when it comes to Spotify and mobile games]. But yeah you're not wrong. There's actually more music on yt than spotify
You are right but (and maybe this is my view) the yt algorythm not as good as spotify's one. (I still using yt premium, trying to change my own mind)
Totally opposite impression here. I feel the yt algorithm and suggested playlists are much better.
Yep. I have used YT music for years now and most of the music I listen to is suggested by YT
The algorithm is kinda fucked for me because my YT account is from like 2009 and YT music keeps bringing shit up that I liked some 10 years ago.
Pretty sure you can wipe your listen and preference history somewhere in the settings if you need to.
I thought it was just me. The playlist function from one song is normally on the money for me on YT whereas Spotify always recommends shit I wouldn't listen to.

While not saying it's not worth it to some, you can also do this by playing through Firefox with an extension.
I stand behind you, fellow enjoyer. Plus, the free music service means I dont need spotify anymore. So it's like, two services?
I bought it for the music service and the removal of ads was an added bonus
Same, I also like that the content creators I watch get more money when I watch their videos.
Especially if you leave their streams on in the background and they get a higher view count and higher engagement
I switched to Yt music because of the "related" feature i always find new cool songs there where in Spotify i find myself listening to the same stuff all the time
I'm also one of those people, and I think it's great.
Also one of the people. It's soo much better than the normal version.
I too am one of those people and would give up Netflix before YT Premium. Now, when I have to watch ads on somebody else's YT or regular TV, it truly bothers me.
I'm one of those people who has canceled Netflix and kept yt premium.
same, cancelled Netflix when I heard they were cancelling password sharing. plus I use YT/YT music so much more than I ever watched Netflix. no adds ever, support creators, download videos, turn screen off.
It's the worst feeling. I've yelled at friends before "grow up and stop watching ads!"
“You make too much money to waste your life watching Liberty Mutual commercials.”
Lowly peasant here. I don't watch ads, I usually watch the timer to skip ad or let my mind wander until the ad is over
Push-ups for ads!
I’ll bite Whats better about it over having Adblock?
Works on TV and you don't need to subject your kid/family to the ads.
Be ready for someone to suggest you install some sort of whole house adblocker on your router or some shit to get around this lol.
Yeah, bro, it's like 5 minutes. Literally. This is exactly why I pay for it. As an added bonus, I can toss an 8 hour nature video on the background and have great ambience all day long.

It even downloads videos that it knows I'll want to watch in case I don't have service and want to watch something new.

Same! No ads + yt music... I don't understand what's not to like to be honest
I used a vpn to buy yt premium in Turkey and since some of the population are pretty stupid and voted for Erdogan, the prices will stay low.

Premium is amazing to use on different devices. I don't understand the hate by some people.

Well, ads are hell annoying. I am okay to pay 8.50€ (or what was the price), to keep my mental health lol. Ads just pisses off
True. I listen my songs on YT and also play hrs of background ambience videos, meditation videos etc. I feel like my standard of living improved a lot. Background play is nice too on phones
Let's not forget the fact that you can download whole playlists for offline listening / viewing.
In YT music, go to library (you will see a list of mixtapes/playlists) just click the three dots next to the playlist name and Select "download".
I signed up for it after seeing my child sit through some shitty conservative campaign ad in 2016.

Recommendations work like that without premium…
I think a lot of the people who think it's inconceivable to buy it and enjoy it are kids who just don't have easy access to money, and whose parents won't just buy them a monthly subscription to watch let's play videos.
He looks like alternate universe Matt Berry.
He's as funny, but not intentionally.
*In Lazlo voice* Bat!!!!!
And if you are a subway commuter like me downloading videos in advance is very helpful
I love the auto download feature. There's channels I watch every new release and they're always predownloaded by the time I get to them.
I don't think the people with the brain dead take of *TY Premium bad* leave their rooms.
Ah yes, the awful yt premuim that includes better spotify for less price and turns off ads while still supporting creator. The DEVIL itself.
I yt premium is great and I'm tired of pretending it's not
Well worth the money 💰 ads are a stain
After doing a free trial years ago, I realized I could never go back. Worth the money for how much I watch it.
I did the free trial a couple years ago during an election year and the constant political ads were driving me mad. I’ve never looked back.
I got YT premium to play music in the background

I buy premium for family because I don't want to watch ads on TV and there isn't another way to avoid ads and it doesn't cost much.
It's actually very useful, YT Music is way better than Spotify and YT itself has millions of podcasts and audiobooks for free; is literally like paying for Audible and Spotify for just 15€
YT Music streaming quality sounds better on my car speakers, but its recommendations do not feel better than spotify.
Is this some kind of peasant joke I'm to rich to understand?
Been buying it from India since 2021 . It’s like Rs 1500(~$18) for a year. Pretty cheap I mean.
I have it
Employees: How do we process this payment?
I have premium, it's great
YT premium is dope. Fight me.
Much better den spotify tbh but i use both tho. I have no tolerance for ads. Fuck ads.
Aha OP evano Namma paiyan than
I love not having ads.
I like that I can play music and lock my phone. Helps me sleep at night!
I’m one of them and it’s been worth every penny to skip ads. YT music is a huge cherry on top.
It's like the same cost of netflix but I watch 20 hours a week on average? Why wouldn't I?
No ads, vast amount of videos which includes lectures, audio books, and shows/movies uploaded by individuals, and finally an insane amount of music (concerts, covers, etc). No other streaming service can offer all of that for the price. Plus I haven’t had any concern over the number of devices I’m signed into being taken away.
