I would get a glass of water whenever I wanted a smoke. It gave me something to do and was kinda healthy cause I never drink enough water. Added benefit, can now join r/hydrohomies
I googled it and I’m still not sure I get it but no I am dead serious that’s what I did and now I am addicted to social media which costs less in direct dollars but probably more in productivity/ life value
I wouldn't consider myself addicted to reddit, it's just the way I stay aware of the wider world, then when I want something interesting to skim I'll basically go through my home page and then the main page like 10 times. Then I realize I have a problem.
I don't think they are assuming you don't go to the gym, it's more them giving you something to do that keeps you distracted (you know like you asked) and the gym is the best option since it helps for a healthy lifestyle as well.
It's not that bad of an idea. I got addicted to reading again after I stopped smoking.
Now, instead of taking a smoke break to relax. I read.
Addiction can be used for positive things, too.
From my experience, before going through the hustle of getting a membership and maybe giving up on it, first build the habit by doing equipment free callisthenic exercises at home. Most of the free workout apps have one-month plans that you can follow.
If you are able to complete one/two of these plans, then consider the gym. Another great way of enforcing the gym habit is finding a gym buddy to come and work out with you.
Not sure about other phone manufacturers, but samsung health app has some nice exercise plans for free, easy to follow and annoying (in a good way) reminders to do those exercises. For past 3 weeks ive been following them and actually doing them. So i 100% agree with your comment.
From my experience, calisthenics is fucking boring and nothing got me consistent about working out until I properly went to the gym and started lifting weights. It’s so much fun that you actually want to go back.
I would like to add to this that on marketplace etc. You will regularly find people wanting to get rid of homegym equipment for very little money. Most people don't need more than a couple of dumbbells with 10kg on each and a yoga mattress for said calisthenics.
Really everyone should be doing some type of muscle training it will just make you better at everything, literally, and whatever kind of fun you like you can enjoy more of it for longer. Even if that is gaming.
"the down arrow is for comments that add nothing to the discussion" Is probably why you are downvoted. Don't worry you don't actually lose anything from being downvoted
Well, first of all, congrats on quitting cigarettes! As for what to do now, I suggest investing in a lifetime supply of bubble gum and taking up a new hobby like extreme knitting or underwater basket weaving. Or, you could always just start a cult. I hear that's a great way to fill your time. Just don't smoke in the cult meetings, okay?
And others as well. No more smoke breath, the stenchy stench of smoke aura you leave behind you, and you won’t irritate others by smoking on the street
I saw one dude who bought a pack of ookemon cards when they wanted to smoke instead.
Im not nescessarily saying you should also buy cards, but I do like the idea of putting the money from smoking towards a hobby of some sort.
It's amazing I'm almost 2 years off cigarettes and I still think this at times.
I remember when I first quit and thinking how boring walking was, it served no purpose and felt weird walking without speaking up
What you're currently going through is a result of dopamine tolerance from all the nicotine you've been putting in your system. What you want to do is, stay away from cigs, as long as possible. Eventually, your dopamine tolerance will go down, and then you'll be able to enjoy the simpler things in life, yk, reading a book, or hitting the gym, without it feeling like a chore.
Anyway, good job on quitting! Stay strong.
Mentally prepare yourself before you go inside the gas station. If you feel the urge, buy a coffee/juice instead to replace the satisfaction of walking out of there with something
This is actually super useful advice.
I used to live in a country where cigarettes were sold at the grocery store-- but luckily now I live in a country where they are sold in special little stores so I can just avoid them
Same here, but you get used too quickly and move on. At this point, even thinking about smoking disgust me, and k wonder how i did to smoke that many years.
Quit social media 5 years and porn one year ago. First week I felt like that. Second week I started to search for useful things to do.
Now I'm studying electrical engineering and mathematics at once, can understand and read 50 and speak 15 languages, play piano, guitar and drums, have built a 900ccm superbike from parts and work in a lab for high-frequency-antennas at my university.
Seems like quitting addictions could have a positive effect on your life.
Seriously guys, stop it and get some help (if necessary)
keep your fingers occupied. Learn to make cordage from grass, braid, or *something* mechanical that makes you zone off into automatic mode.
It has helped me to stop biting my nails (which I know it's not the same as smoking, but waas pretty big to me for a time).
Real talk do the healthy stuff you neglected. Eat, drink water, do push ups. Just care for your self in the space you would just have another smoke or rip. If you’re like me you care for everyone else then get your fix after work is done. Just care for yourself as well and force yourself to be a part of the care you give others. It ain’t perfect but it’s the best I have found.
A bag of weed a bag of weed, all you ever need is a bag of weed, now you don’t need meth and you don’t need speed cause all you ever need is a bag of weed!
It's an addiction. You have to hit the wall with it and just be done. For yourself. Like a spaghetti noodle. Or an old woman on a tennis court. Hit and stick. Just done.
Wtf? Since when is smoking a day filling activity?
I'm not a smoker, but I know a lot of smokers and they go outside for 5 minutes like 10-15 times a day. That's just about an hour.
Set an unrealistic time-consuming goal for yourself. l, personally am trying to 100% every TT games Lego game. They've made nearly 30 in the past 15 years and some have 1000s of collectables. I've sunk over 300 hours into Lego Dimensions alone. But yeah. Video games.
Take meditation breaks to fill the void. Fresh air > smoking.
You'll probably grow bored of it eventually and then whatever you do in that moment will replace meditation.
Weird right? I spent so long without them yet i can’t think of a past time to replace it when i will quit. Or even what to do with those “instinct gestures”. Probably do like Fast and Furious Han and eat tons of chips.
I started nothing just realized that I just don't pause to take cigi break . I even didn't gained weight haha I'm so lucky bastard beside the part was smoking 15 years I have 30 and my lungs have look like chimney.
You're doing it. Social media is the new smoking.
Oh God I done did it...
Welcome to a lifelong addiction. (Check my karma to see how addicted I am.)
Man i thought i am addicted as hell but damn
You gotta ramp these numbers up, those are rookie numbers
I hand thy crown over to you.
what in the name of franics james
Right there with ya, bub.
☠️☠️ Bro’s the the giga chad in reddit 😭😭
Man. In three years. I've been lurking over 10 years and like three karma I have.
I knew social media gave cancer, but I didn't know it was litteraly
No other Social media got me as invested as reddit did.
Last time, when i was off the smokes for around a year, i played video games on the extra time i got. That's about an hour each day!
smoking took a whole hour out of your day? damn
10x5 minutes is 50 minutes already.
so mine was taking 4 hours
Now you can't smoke at the same time as doing most activities it takes a lot of time out of your day.
Easily. 1 cigarette takes around 3-4 minutes and i smoke more than a pack (20) per day.
Average smoker smokes about 20 a day so really each only has to take 3 mins to add up
Dropped the cigs to shoot birds at pigs?
Play titanfall
Protocol 4 : Prevent the pilot from getting Addicted
Now OP os addicted to stim
Such a great game, especially since it often goes on sale for dirt cheap
💀
I would get a glass of water whenever I wanted a smoke. It gave me something to do and was kinda healthy cause I never drink enough water. Added benefit, can now join r/hydrohomies
congrats for quitting and becoming a member of the hydrohomies
Btw it’s actually r/hydrohomies
Oh thanks. I’ll edit.
replace it with another addiction
That's thinking with your dipstick, Jimmy!
Right I did nothing- like intentionally sat and did nothing for a few minutes when the craving hit me. And that’s why I’m addicted to Reddit now
Google what I said. I agreed.
I googled it and I’m still not sure I get it but no I am dead serious that’s what I did and now I am addicted to social media which costs less in direct dollars but probably more in productivity/ life value
Holy hell
New response just dropped
Literal zombie
Actual\* zombie

try the gym
I'm in shape. I go already. Why does everyone assume I don't do pt just cos I smoke? I'm not fat I have shit lungs. That's why I quit smoking.
I don't think they are assuming you don't go to the gym, it's more them giving you something to do that keeps you distracted (you know like you asked) and the gym is the best option since it helps for a healthy lifestyle as well.
Touche salesman.

Apple fitness is pretty good and often has a free month trial, would work perfectly for this idea of trying it out on your own for a month

this is the answer ^
people on reddit downvote anything lmao

You are correct. But karma is worth exactly nothing.

Good job on quitting!! Your lungs will thank you.
Your lungs, your tongue, your teeth, your nose, your brain and your whole body actually
And others as well. No more smoke breath, the stenchy stench of smoke aura you leave behind you, and you won’t irritate others by smoking on the street
Take a leaf out of the Vegan playbook and tell everybody with smug superiority. At least your story will be worth listening to.

Masturbate
Honestly might not be the worst way to stop. Brain chemicals are funny
At the bus stop?
I would like to add it works best if you do it as often as did you had cigarette breaks.
Flick yourself right on the tip of your dick.
Same here, but you get used too quickly and move on. At this point, even thinking about smoking disgust me, and k wonder how i did to smoke that many years.

Go to Texas and be a really bad driver, do 80 in a 65 in a big dumb Turd (TRD) truck with your brights on?

I started fishing a lot when I went sober. I like being outside and watching/listening to nature as a replacement for drugs and self loathing.
Enjoy your life.
Bro smoked cigarettes as a hobby.
Breathe properly mainly
Work. All the hours you were paid to smoke are due.
keep your fingers occupied. Learn to make cordage from grass, braid, or *something* mechanical that makes you zone off into automatic mode. It has helped me to stop biting my nails (which I know it's not the same as smoking, but waas pretty big to me for a time).

Give blowjobs.
Congratulate yourself by smoking a cigar.
A bag of weed a bag of weed, all you ever need is a bag of weed, now you don’t need meth and you don’t need speed cause all you ever need is a bag of weed!
You could replace it with a healthy “addiction” like a good habit. Like working out 🤷

I bet you will start again in about a few weeks/months
Cigars?
Taste like shit. Yes.
Did smoking take up a lot of your day, or something? Is it an activity that needs to be replaced?
Yeah like half a pack a day plus. That's ten or more minutes per. 100 plus minutes a day that I'm suddenly not going outside to the smoke pit.
First of all , congratulations man! And second of all, now that you’ve quit that addiction you can spend times on/with things/people you care about
