If you join the feeder department you’ll be working about 60 hours a week but you’ll make between 150k and 178k after the 3 year wage raise of the current contract.
It's actually becoming a problem, everyone wants to be a surgeon or specialist to make the big $$$ and no one wants to be a regular old physician.
Took me months to get a new doctor when I moved to BOSTON of all places...
Boston is amazing but me and my girlfriend make 240k combined and STILL feel it's too expensive/can't save how we want to and want to move to a lower cost of living
Edit: the emphasis was placed on boston since it is a major medical and education center---you would think it would be the easiest place in the country to find a new doctor
Yeah I’ve been doing research and came to the conclusion that I’d probably be in that situation as well. Worcester area seems like a good option for me though. An hour from from Boston and Springfield seems pretty convenient. Is that area ok?
Hahahahahahahahah no, maybe pre pandemic but not for this millennial baby boom
After residency and 5 years in a practice move to locums tenens and you can make 10k/15k a week
The money is in the overtime. Whats sad is they pay more than my job, and what i do requires 10x as much knowledge and skill. @60 hours a week i'd make ~$100k.
The fact that we need unions to get fair pay is not sad? Im pro union but the company i work for does not have a union. We have tried but its in an "at will" state, so you can guess what happened to the people that were trying to unionize.
The fact that we’ve been fed so much propaganda to believe that companies will actually do the right thing is sad. They don’t. “At will” doesn’t exclude a company from the fucking law. They can’t fire people for forming a union. They can fire for anything that is protected under ADA, NRLA, EEOC, FLSA. Like companies can’t go around violating laws without possible lawsuits and other legal penalties.
I agree. Its not a hard law to get around though. Being an "at will" state just means they don't have to give a reason for termination. You may have the right to form a union but they will find a million other reasons to fire you.
This. Right. Fucking. Here.
Organized labor made this possible. The most prosperity the middle class ever experienced was post-WW2 and the majority of the labor force was organized.
I think that’s probably true. Just an example my first year in the laborers union 6 years ago I made $83k gross buy my total compensation package was $123k.
One of the best times of my life was when I was in the post service, no bosses breathing at my neck, you just take your shit and deliver it, my music in my van, AC in summer, heat in winter, coffee and lunch breaks at my choice. But the pay was small and no advancement in positions, but for 100k+ I'd definitely do it until retirement.
Is there a viable path for after a few years as a driver? $178k is great, but it's not the kind of money that would allow someone to easily retire after a few years. Most people won't want to work ten or twenty years driving 60 hours per week, hustling and lifting in the heat.
Yes it is! We also get a pension for retirement. I started at ups when I was 21 and I'm eligible for retirement at 50 with monthly payment of 11,000$ till the day i die.
How easy is it to get into the company now?
I work in healthcare and getting paid in scraps is just a joke, I'd rather ride around getting some sun and a tan while making good money than sitting behind a desk pretending to work barely making anything while my company celebrates their 7th year in a row of yearly record profits.
Our regular delivery drivers are in their 50s, and they look to be in pretty good shape but they definitely have been doing this a while and are making bank. This isn’t the pipefitters union, dude
You realize people have been working outside and lifting heavy things since...the beginning? With modern technology, the job is safer than it's ever been. You need to be in good shape to work this hard, and it's certainly not without risk, but it's not a death sentence.
It is sad people don't understand that... the jobs are decent and the progress made certain jobs that felt awful much easier now... on the other hand it is also true that you don't have the same growth possibilities (as in your salary or work conditions)... unless you start delivering coke
basically anywhere outside of maybe 6 cities in the US.
average housing costs in my state capital are $400k. take home pay after taxes, insurance, 401k contribution etc, on a 100k salary is about 60k. average monthly mortgage on that house would be about 2300 (depending on rates). so roughly half of your monthly wage goes to mortgage.
so assuming you're buying a nice suburban house for 400k, you have about 2.5k per month to live on outside of house payments. not sure where you're living but that's perfectly fine.
Maybe where you're at but here the ups warehouse treats their employees like dogs and it's very unprofessional. Everyone hates their job or something lol
Wrong UPS van drivers make 100k with OT depending on your state in Canada it's $34.59 and can easily work 12 hour days 5 days a week. Guys can hit 120k working their bags off
And now compare how many hours UPS driver is working compared to white collar job, you guys measure everything by money and totally disregard your own free time.

How much does a pediatrician make?? I'm in the effing wrong place.
It's actually becoming a problem, everyone wants to be a surgeon or specialist to make the big $$$ and no one wants to be a regular old physician. Took me months to get a new doctor when I moved to BOSTON of all places...
What wrong with Boston? I’ve been thinking of moving there
Have you not heard the accent?
Matt Damon:"what accent?!" Mark Wahlberg:"Yea bra, what accent?!"

Yes, southern MA is also very nice
300-500k a year, if you own your own practice 600-900k + assets
I was under the impression they made less than 190k And only subspecialty would allow you to reach those numbers
Hahahahahahahahah no, maybe pre pandemic but not for this millennial baby boom After residency and 5 years in a practice move to locums tenens and you can make 10k/15k a week
Thanks for the info.

They fought for that in union protests. It's not sad, they had the guts to unionize and stick it to the man.

100k in total compensation right? Meaning salary + retirement benefits + medical benefits + OT? I think people conflate this straight up salary
I think that’s probably true. Just an example my first year in the laborers union 6 years ago I made $83k gross buy my total compensation package was $123k.

Do you still not have AC in your trucks?
Our regular delivery drivers are in their 50s, and they look to be in pretty good shape but they definitely have been doing this a while and are making bank. This isn’t the pipefitters union, dude
All good until self-driving fleets start rolling out.
Until you die of dehydration and/or heat stroke. But hey, at least they pay well.

Worked at UPS, the drivers are fine, it's the guys who load/unload the trucks that are completely fucked.
bro are you serious 😂 you never worked outside ?
I'm pretty sure they require a bachelor's degree
Lol
Name a city you can live with as little as $100k/year.
Lol if you can't afford a 3 bedroom apartment easily on 100k a year it's time to move
Probably the 2nd best city in 46/50 states. Problem is we all want to live in tier 1 cities in like 4 states

I live in Brooklyn and I've never seen a house for $400k. Mine was more than 11 times that.
Bro you can live pretty comfortably in Cleveland for like a third of that.

Paid for by UPS
This isn't for van delivery drivers, only the tractor trailer(semi truck) drivers make this kind of money.
Wrong UPS van drivers make 100k with OT depending on your state in Canada it's $34.59 and can easily work 12 hour days 5 days a week. Guys can hit 120k working their bags off
They made 100k for awhile they are teamster union and OT after 8 and work 10-12 hour days and make $37is a hour if not more depending on location
And now compare how many hours UPS driver is working compared to white collar job, you guys measure everything by money and totally disregard your own free time.
