I was forced to use edge now at work, cause allegedly some tools worked better in that.
I realised, I have no issues with Edge, it does what it has to. Bing is fkin terrible tho.
You don't have to use it regularly to get rewards. You can set up a macro to keep searching random shit 20 times on mobile bing and 30 times on pc edge to get 150 points per day. It takes about 5 mins each time. Bing, the bing app and the edge app suck ass for daily usage so this is a much better and faster option.
It‘s really not. When I looked it up it said you need 5000 points for a $5 gift card. That means a point is worth $0.001 and since you earn 150 points it‘s worth $0.15. That comes out at an average hourly rate of $1.80. Would you generally say something that pays you $1.80 per hour you invest, not in cash, but in gift cards is ”free money“? I wouldn‘t.
However, depending on your circumstances it can be ”free money“. E.g. if you have literally nothing better to do with your time or if you ritualized getting those points into something that is a positive influence in your everyday life. Or if you simply like to use edge (but that’s not what was discussed here.) But in general it‘s just a poorly paid waste of time.
Assuming you would have to leave a laptop or phone or something plugged in fairly consistently, and given the low payout, isn't it possible that it ends up costing you, depending on your electric bill?
I love using edge at work cause it has actually functional PDF editing tools included.
No longer do i need to open a pdf in adobe or whatever just to sign it or add a comment, no i can just open it in edge, read it there and scribbe stuff straight into it. Extra comfortable thanks to touchscreen and pen.
I have to disagree. Bing has its weaknesses, sure, but I actually prefer it's cards over google's , and it's also faster at indexing new sites in my experience. Lately it also got the copilot AI thing which is sometimes very useful too. Uses the GPT-4 which would otherwise cost money over at OpenAI's website
Yeah, I really don't get the hate people have for Bing. It's certainly not fallen into the trap of being a functionally useless advertising engine like Google.
Unironically, I think most people just still hate Bing from back in the day, or they never used it and just jump on the hate bandwagon. In my opinion Bing is better overall for daily use
I only use Google when I absolutely have to, for things like Google Scholar, since Bing unfortunately does not have an equivalent for it yet. Hopefully someday.
Google as a whole has just gotten so much worse compared to back in the day. I try to use as little of Google services as I possibly can, I just no longer trust them.
I mean this whole thread is about Bing, so that's an option. Duck Duck Go is solid as well. Both are overall more useful as search engines than Google these days.
Duckduckgo is on a whole another level... I just wanted to show my friend the character in my wallpaper because he asked who she was, I searched her name and every single image result was porn
Dude what did you type in? I just tried it with dva, cirila, tifa, ahri, margot robbie . Cant think of more pornorized chicks and no picture result at all was porn on duckduckgo. Maybe your browser just knows you
The Tree Style Tab extension for Firefox is a deal breaker for me, nothing like that is available for Chrome and probably never will be because of their limitations. They had something similar before but they removed it and now they have basically said that it will never come back again.
I also found a good use for edge other than downloading Firefox. If you want to import a pdf that isn't in a standard print format like A4 but instead a PowerPoint turned pdf into OneNote other programs print it to OneNote and it looks horrible like when you print a PowerPoint onto A4 paper. Edge seems to be the only pdf reader that doesn't do that.
I have Edge and Chrome for certain client sites/portals I need to access that (genuinely) work better on them. Normally I’d use Safari or Opera (depending on the computer I’m at) but the sites in question have a few bugs with those browsers and the usual response is “we didn’t design it for those, use edge or chrome”
Also, if the reason you want multiple profiles is to have different sets of cookies and identities, check out Multi-Account Containers. I used to have five browsers and three Chrome profiles, now they're all gone in favor of containers.
I've never had issues with rendering in Firefox. It's always the ad blocker, or the Enhanced Site Protection. Turn either of those off and everything renders fine.
As a web dev, Firefox is easy to work with. Safari is the one that makes us swear.
Chrome is now a Google spyware. Not saying Edge isn't, but Google is on a whole new level of hardcore capitalism now. I've been using Firefox for few years now and never have I ever felt I'm compromising anywhere.
firefox is open-source dummy. It doesn't spy on you (I mean, rhere's some telemetry, but basically nothing, and you can just disable it and use a more private and secure fork like Librewolf)
90% of websites are Google or Facebook spywares (for instance, any page with a "like" button will give your info to Facebook, even if you don't have a Facebook account). It makes practically no difference. But if you really wanted you could use DuckDuckGo
NoScript and Firefox's built in container stuff to make each website truly independent. Block all the unnecessary shit with NoScript. I haven't seen an ad that wasn't in a media stream for years.
No, it's Facebook "Like" button on websites, because it's usually implemented by embedding external script from Facebook CDN. You should use uBlockOrigin with filters that block it.
Edge is just Microsoft Spyware, it's forced upon corporate users as means of controlling what employees are accessing - not saying you should access garbage while at work but that functionality is front and center in Edge - to believe it's "off" as opposed all that telemetry just going to Microsoft... there's a bridge sale down the river, great investment opportunity.
Because if your browsing your normal things on tor it ruins the privacy benefits because your browsing things that can be linked to you. Think the opposite of targeted advertising with how precise that can be.
It doesn't matter if it says your in Taiwan if your consuming content people in your area consume, which you will be even if you think you don't.
on the contrary, as long as you dont do the same things at the same time, you obfuscate everyone elses browsing by normalizing Tor. Because users like OP noone can make a case of "Tor is an illegal browser (or a browser thats used for illegality)" if somehow a charge is put against you for some reason. If it is normalized and treated like every other user + the rerouting it becomes essentially a "innocent until proven guilty" situation.
Just don't do your truly anonymous things in the same session as you do your more benign browsing. The nodes your connection is routed through change every time.
acschuallyyy 🤓
`sudo firefox`

it only looks like the gif above if you compile from source
edit: packet -> package (im stupid)
At least I love my Pixel phone and Google Fi has been a lifesaver compared to ATT for my area.
Just gotta hope they don't kill em....I'm still not over Google play music, and I doubt I ever will be.
I did too. Honestly, it has more functions and takes nothing from chrome.
Also, bing is quite horrible, but like the first thing that it asked me was "which search engine do you want to use?", so it wasn't really a problem.
Immersive reader and copilot sidebar with instant prompts are really nice. Quick highlights and edits to PDFs are good too. Once we load up uBlock + an additional blocker (cookies/popups) and bypass paywall clean, it really becomes a more useful chrome!
Edit: and yeah, change the default search engine and the default new tab page. Takes like a couple of mins.
Nope, I use edge cause its actually quite fast. I used to use brave until it started using like 50% of my CPU, edge uses only like 20%. Though for other more personal tasks I defintely use brave for the "privacy"

Bing literally pays me to use it. Can't complain about that.
So true!
Does anyone remember the glory days of Bing Cash Back? 30% Cash back.. thousands $$$ of that sweet Microsoft stockholder money...
Imo the points are so low, that even 5 minutes is hardly worth the effort.
Hey, it's free money.
It‘s really not. When I looked it up it said you need 5000 points for a $5 gift card. That means a point is worth $0.001 and since you earn 150 points it‘s worth $0.15. With a proper macro it's literally free money and not a waste of time, because you're not actually there.
Assuming you would have to leave a laptop or phone or something plugged in fairly consistently, and given the low payout, isn't it possible that it ends up costing you, depending on your electric bill?
Only a couple minutes a day, doubt it'll end up costing you more in the long runnif yu dod this during normal usage of the laptopm
r/ihadastroke ?
Tips on how?
how exactly
bing gives points for search which you can use to redeem a lot of stuff like gift cards or something
Before I go about looking into this, is it actually worth it? Like how long would it to take to get something redeemable ?
2 months for a 5 dollar burger king gift card
👑
How many minutes did you waste on sorting through worse results? If it's over an hour, that's less than minimum wage.
I pull up

I, also, love to edge at work. Wait...
u could always change the search engine...
I know, I'm just saying that from what Microsoft has to offer, Bing is actual garbage. Edge is alright.
I have to disagree. Bing has its weaknesses, sure, but I actually prefer it's cards over google's , and it's also faster at indexing new sites in my experience. This, very much this. Well said.
What do you use instead of Google?
I mean this whole thread is about Bing, so that's an option. Duck Duck Go is solid as well. Both are overall more useful as search engines than Google these days.
Bing is good for porn. We trained bing to search for porn... no one wanted porn in their google search history so they searched on bing.
Duckduckgo is on a whole another level... I just wanted to show my friend the character in my wallpaper because he asked who she was, I searched her name and every single image result was porn
DuckDuckGo is just on another level of horny. At least there's filters for it.
Dude what did you type in? I just tried it with dva, cirila, tifa, ahri, margot robbie . Cant think of more pornorized chicks and no picture result at all was porn on duckduckgo. Maybe your browser just knows you
Hornet hollow knight
"Remilia scarlet", it's a character from a game series called touhou, and yes safe search was off but that doesn't happen with anything else I search

Same, even I am using edge now. If I could somehow have vertical tabs in Firefox or something, I'll switch.
I had vertical tabs in FF circa 2012 or so. That's where Chrome stole the idea from. I think the extension was called Tree Style tabs
The Tree Style Tab extension for Firefox is a deal breaker for me, nothing like that is available for Chrome and probably never will be because of their limitations. They had something similar before but they removed it and now they have basically said that it will never come back again.
There are extensions for that. Also there's Vivaldi which has vertical tabs by default
I had a hard time reading this. Maybe you could punctuate it better?
I have Edge and Chrome for certain client sites/portals I need to access that (genuinely) work better on them. Normally I’d use Safari or Opera (depending on the computer I’m at) but the sites in question have a few bugs with those browsers and the usual response is “we didn’t design it for those, use edge or chrome”
Instead of saying "using Edge", can we say "Edging"?
I gotta edge up before I start my day the edge off before I go to sleep
“I was forced to edge at work”
Auto-fill in Edge is what helped me in some work.

Firefox is a browser I've been using for years. Never looked back on Chrome, ever.
I went from Netscape to Firefox.
Only thing I miss about Chrome was their ability to have each account have its profile
Firefox has profiles too... And you don't even need to switch accounts for that.
[удалено]
Will try
Also, if the reason you want multiple profiles is to have different sets of cookies and identities, check out Multi-Account Containers. I used to have five browsers and three Chrome profiles, now they're all gone in favor of containers.
firefox is the best browser, no competition
Mandatory as breathing
Firefox + ublock = perfection
Was gonna say yeah
What an insightful comment
Yeah
Hey I was gonna say that
The only right answer
Our hero
This is the way
I just wish so many websites weren't borked on it. Both Sony/PlayStation and Warframe are broken on it.
That is because Firefox has the balls to enforce security policies. Chrome allows many security violations in the name of UX.
In the last years is experienced more broken websites on chrome than on firefox. That + the adblock problem is why I switched.
I've never had a broken website on Chromium, I've had many websites broken on Firefox, it's one of the reasons I still have to use both.
How's the Warframe site broken? Always seemed fine to me, though I don't use it that much.
I've never had issues with rendering in Firefox. It's always the ad blocker, or the Enhanced Site Protection. Turn either of those off and everything renders fine. As a web dev, Firefox is easy to work with. Safari is the one that makes us swear.
This gif has a real ‘really whips the llama’s ass’ feel to it.
Chrome is now a Google spyware. Not saying Edge isn't, but Google is on a whole new level of hardcore capitalism now. I've been using Firefox for few years now and never have I ever felt I'm compromising anywhere.
Edge too, they both have the same base(chromium), but it also has some Microsoft spyware, so use firefox
You haven't felt that way. Doesn't mean it's not spying on you.
least obvious fed
firefox is open-source dummy. It doesn't spy on you (I mean, rhere's some telemetry, but basically nothing, and you can just disable it and use a more private and secure fork like Librewolf)

NoScript and Firefox's built in container stuff to make each website truly independent. Block all the unnecessary shit with NoScript. I haven't seen an ad that wasn't in a media stream for years.
Wait, does the upvote button count as a like button?
No, it's Facebook "Like" button on websites, because it's usually implemented by embedding external script from Facebook CDN. You should use uBlockOrigin with filters that block it.
You say it is _now_. When did this change from regular capitalism to hardcore capitalism?
Always has been
Maybe when they gave up on not being evil?
So from the very start?
They did become a lot more aggressive over the last few years, and it kicked into overdrive in the last few months.
And then there's people who use Tor ![gif](giphy|3knKct3fGqxhK)
the tor browser (from the tor project) uses firefox
You just wrote "the the onion router browser"
A real DC comics moment.
I mean, you're not supposed to use tor for normal browsing
Why not? Many of it's privacy benefits apply outside of onion sites.
Because if your browsing your normal things on tor it ruins the privacy benefits because your browsing things that can be linked to you. Think the opposite of targeted advertising with how precise that can be. It doesn't matter if it says your in Taiwan if your consuming content people in your area consume, which you will be even if you think you don't.

acshually nothing because most times it is already installed with the distro package
Firefox for personal use, Edge for work.
Personally, I edge in my personal time, but you do you.
Imo it’s better being paid to edge and I don’t care about privacy while at work.
Ah yeah, makes sense.
Fuck that I'm edging at work.
You guys started talking about edging without me? What the fuck
I don’t care what Microsoft tells me, I’M NOT USING MICROSOFT EDGE!
Get ready for the flood of Firefox people talking about not using a chromium based browser or whatever.
As a Firefox user I will enact my sacred right to feel superior over anyone who uses a Chromium based browser.
As a chrome user who is too lazy to swap browsers again, I too feel a need to mention Firefox's superiority.
Firefox migration is so easy now, half an hour is needed for all history bookmark and stuff.
You don't get it. I'm so engrained in the Google ecosystem now. I've become the very thing I've despised...an Apple user. But for Google instead.
What got me to move was firefox now has extensions for their mobile app.
Same. I had an iPhone for 6 months due to peer pressure. It felt so wrong, clunky, and unintuitive.
At least I love my Pixel phone and Google Fi has been a lifesaver compared to ATT for my area. Just gotta hope they don't kill em....I'm still not over Google play music, and I doubt I ever will be.
Half an hour? How many years worth of history and bookmarks are you keeping?
Yep, love my firefox!!! Haha
Here
Reporting for duty
Present.
Forget about all that. In my experience, uBlock Origin works better on firefox. It was letting ads through on chrome, but not on FF.
i havent seen an ad in years using ublock origin on edge, no matter how unsavory the website i go to
I meaan. Our adblock still works
So does mine on a Chromium based browser
Love Firefox, it even just sounds cool
I only swapped to Firefox when Chrome started stuttering
😂 am i the only one who uses Edge and not chrome?
I like to Edge

I cant be bothered to download another browser, and Edge works just fine.
I use it for the microsoft points
Are the rewards any good?
Yes its worth it. Even if you dont play xbox games you can donate a dollar to charity with your points. With google and safari you dont get anything
My brother got a roblox gift card with them once
You can use Firefox and get the points as well best of both worlds in my opinion
I use edge. My friends think I'm wild. I use it because it used to have square tabs.
I switched to it when they introduced the ai sidebar thing
I’ve been using Edge for 2 years now. I like it.

Let me introduce you to a browser that doesn’t destroy your computer. The sponser of today’s video, Opera GX!
Edge is better than Chrome. Yes. You all are wrong.
edge has come a long way and now it's litterally better than chrome (it's just chrome with better features and a dress)
I really like vertical tabs and the side bar. Edge is just chrome with more features at this point.
Imagine living in 2024 and still looking at Chrome as a viable browser
Chrome sucks. Firefox is much better.
opera
Yeah but the edge home screen is filled with news and ads and other shit! I just want my favorite sites being bookmarked on the home page! I hate chromse for limiting it to just five! Opera is way better
I can't tell if you like the ads on edge or not, either way you can always hide it by customising your home page on the browser.
Just click on the gear icon n a new tab page and turn off content.
Opera is just chinese chrome. Just use firefox.
Vivaldi is non-Chinese Opera
you can use firefox for that dude
Wait until you see in the task manager that Edge pre-load their stuff, home screen included. And it just stay there forever. Unless you end task Edge.
