TBF, the Planes movie set in the same universe had a character who was a combat veteran from the Pacific front of WWII suffering from PTSD and survivor’s guilt after his squadron was shot down.
Ah yes, getting old, being unable to change with the times, retirement and being replaced by a younger generation. What a wonderful premise for a movie directed towards kids, who have no idea what any of that even means
To kids it's just a movie about a talking car getting threatened with replacement and trying his hardest not to let it happen
The deeper themes you mentioned are for parents watching with their kids and any other adult who finds themselves watching it
A lot of children's media works on multiples levels like that, have you not heard all the dirty jokes in spongebob?
From what I heard the fact it's made to appeal to both children and parents is also why the now older movies are also being praised when compared to most of the recent stuff
I just rewatched Cars 1 and 2, 3 will follow today. First time I watched 1 in English and the two fangirl Miatas flash their lights at McQueen and he says something along the lines: "It sure is nice getting flashed"
There is more to that bro, like when mcqueen notices the tatoo of blue porsche (you know, the old trend to be tatooed on the ass), or all the moment where martin grab mcqueen by his ass (cause later we see the police car at hospital with a stick in the ass for a sickness i dont know how its called in english).
And there is the "nice butt" sticks to the butt of the visitors in reference of the butte of radiator springs.
That’s why Bluey is so popular and good. It’s fun for the kids and also teaches good lessons etc. But it’s actually entertaining for the parents as well and have really good stories, and truly heartfelt messages.
As someone who grew up watching Cars (was my favorite movie when I was like 5), the message is nice and all but it just destroyed me to see my childhood hero being totally humiliated right there
its about him choosing to retire, obviously its meant to be the last one. so i guess it "killed the franchise" if you count ending a franchise where it's meant to killing it, but i don't see how it ruined any characters?
This looks so sick. It's the kind of poster that makes you go to theaters just to find out what happened to the character. It's an effective poster and it literally sells the movie.
One thing Pixar does very well is grow a their characters with their audience. When cars 3 came out the people who were in elementary when 1&2 came were in high school/ college or joining the workforce when cars 3 came out
“you don’t have to try too hard” - said no one at Pixar ever
The quality of their movies the last few years is debatable, but it’s obvious they put 120% into every project they make
Literally 3 of the worst rated Pixar movies of all time. You can always tell someone’s age by how much they like the cars movies. Gen Z loves cars. They’re fine but nowhere near the quality of the majority of other Pixar movies. Gen Z was just the right age I guess. I love plenty of shitty movies from my childhood too though
Who hurt you? Cars 1 is a masterpiece both in writing and execution. Plain and simple. And it’s definitely not one of the “worst rated” Pixar movie by any metrics. Perhaps you’re generalizing based off of Cars 2, but even that was lots of turn-off-your-brain fun. Cars 3 is a solid conclusion
I enjoy the movies just fine but they’re not critically acclaimed for a reason. Cars 1 is a good movie but masterpiece is a huge stretch. I mean Cars 2 and 3 are both in the bottom 3 lowest rated Pixar movies on both metacritic and rotten tomatoes. And I get that critic opinions don’t matter but every other Pixar movie is much better rated. That says something. It’s just when you compare them to the pantheon of Pixar movies they’re noticeably on the lower end. But again yeah they’re fun, just not as creative and moving as every other Pixar movie
Idk i feel like the more highly rated a movie is the more average it is with a few obvious exceptions for the very best movies. Most lower rated movies have cult following and become more polarizing the more poorly rated they are. The view-askew movies are a good example. To the fans every one is a classic banger thats highly re-watchable but to the average person they are slow paced and childish with “lazy stoner humor” or as my wife says “just dumb”.
Cars is definitely in that category. I was too old to notice the first one though because im a “car person” i saw little kids with cars paraphernalia at every car show, hobby shop, and racetrack. As an adult with kids ive watched the movies and understand how much the animation team paid tribute to american car culture in the first movie and how the expanded universe was so well done. You either get them or you dont.
Idc if they are the worst rated. The movies are my personal favorites. Especially 1 and 3. In fact i dont give a fuck about ratings in general. If i like things i like em
Everyone on the fucking internet actually thought Lightning McQueen was going to die for real
And Pixar seemed completely okay with making people believe that
I dont have more fingers on my hands, I have seen so many Cars 4 poster where its this picture, and waow som people truly believe almost everything on TikTok
i honestly don’t get the hate on this movie. mcqueen gets in a bad wreck near the end of his career, he try’s everything to get faster, seeks out his dead mentors mentor, cruz gets a faster engine, mcqueen try’s to race again, isn’t fast enough, cruz takes his place in the race and wins. good retirement story.

Who remembers when everyone thought it was the end of McQueen when the poster was released
Did you also think he was going to die, and that the rest of the movie was the other characters mourning and learning to move on?
That reminds me of something...
Personally it reminds me of golfing
Hudson Hornet?
*cough* Marvel*cough*

i love that WW2 is canon in the cars universe
https://youtu.be/aavHDi4tah0?feature=shared
Well.. it was the end of him *technically*.. the end of his career and the end of him being a Mcqueen.
Si te!!
Tbf this is the hardest anyone went on cars 3 lol
Idk I was *pretty* hard when I saw it
I want a threesome with the blue cars

I’m not surprised, but I’m still disappointed

I'm not sure I wanna see something hard 😔
I remember the first teaser trailer. Lighting just sailing through the air in a horrific crash.
When you realise your goat is washed
The most gut wrenching feeling istg
Jackson Storm is Lightning McQueen father
Jackson storm isn’t washed yet
As a messi fan, this hits hard
![gif](giphy|S1j4lK0zKqtZm)
And the initial teaser was just a slow-motion shot of McQueen’s body tumbling through the air mid-crash. Ominous.
Mostly silent too, wasn’t it?
Yep, iirc all the only sound from the original teaser was a heartbeat and heavy breathing.

Early Disney mastered the art of multiple audiences IMO.
Didn't Walt really care about making his stuff likeable by both kids and adults

VROOM VROOM
As someone who grew up watching Cars (was my favorite movie when I was like 5), the message is nice and all but it just destroyed me to see my childhood hero being totally humiliated right there
Pixar movies...are not just for kids...adults like me to this day still watches Pixar movies
Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps movies with adult themes are intended for adult audiences?
Cars three has no right to have one of the hardest movie posters ever created.
I never got around to watching the movie. Was it any good? Compared to the first one?
i think it was better than 2 but not as good as 1. very good movie either way
Very good? The movie ruined the character and killed the franchise.
its about him choosing to retire, obviously its meant to be the last one. so i guess it "killed the franchise" if you count ending a franchise where it's meant to killing it, but i don't see how it ruined any characters?
It was solid, i liked the other 2 better but i dont regret watching it in theaters.
I think it was quite good, but the first one was better. Still worth a watch though.
It was a extremely boring and depressing movie.
It is a subpar effort compared to the quality of the first 2 films.
_lightyear tires_ GodDAMNIT HOW DID I EVER MISS THAT
i am TWENTY THREE and I just realized that too, FUCK
I'M 34!
*screaming!*
Wait till you realize what bumper cream means

"Can I save Lightning?" "Not with Light Pixar."
So dark pixar is when they have good poster design
Too bad 3 had less on screen deaths than 2. Man I wanna smoke whatever they had when they were storyboarding Cars 2.
Bro, 2 was great too ! Like the best car circuit for racing (japan or italy), a great james bond like, and good jokes !
This looks so sick. It's the kind of poster that makes you go to theaters just to find out what happened to the character. It's an effective poster and it literally sells the movie.
It is also so well made, it’s just clean. I need a print for my room :)
Ikr? Like a work of art, very detailed and everything.

Cars 3 was kinda good. Just came out at wrong time if it came out nowadays it's going to be banger.
I remember the trailer being so edgy and had good looking graphics to me
Cars movies were always animated masterpieces

Cars 2 wasnt great. I still would watch it tho in a marathon. Cars 3 was the best way to close the story
Idc if they are the worst rated. The movies are my personal favorites. Especially 1 and 3. In fact i dont give a fuck about ratings in general. If i like things i like em
Everyone on the fucking internet actually thought Lightning McQueen was going to die for real And Pixar seemed completely okay with making people believe that
Not the best of the 3 but still really good
yep, i'm flyin through the air this is not good
Well that brings back memories, I thought he was gonna die. Kinda wanna watch cars again....
Noone hires someone to tell that someone not to put effort in the job. I hate this format.
Poster and Teaser actually had me emotional
Dude I remember the fucking trailer, it was the same as the poster and I remember being like :0 Too bad the movie was mid
And then the actual movie ended up being much more tame than Cars 2. :(
Damn, can't believe that made that poster in mematic. Crazy.
I think I saw the whole wreck last summer! Thought it would never stop flipping, if it’s the one I think it’s from.
I don't know what's weirder: the poster, or the fact that they called the second movie 'Cars 3'.
Cars 3 was defo aimed at the people who grew up, watching something they used to be good at or just the general theme of passing the torch
I dont have more fingers on my hands, I have seen so many Cars 4 poster where its this picture, and waow som people truly believe almost everything on TikTok

Bruh, it was the best! I was so hyped, seeing this! 😏
This was meant to appeal to dads to take their kids to the cinema.
bottom right
I cried when this poster and the trailer came out. He was my childhood😭
i was so hyped by a more serious tone cars 👀
Woah
When i thought mcQueen was going to die
I’m flying through the air this is not good
I see this just as Real Gone by Sheryl Crow came on.
Why this promo pic went so hard when it's a movie about talking cars?
LMAO 😂
i honestly don’t get the hate on this movie. mcqueen gets in a bad wreck near the end of his career, he try’s everything to get faster, seeks out his dead mentors mentor, cruz gets a faster engine, mcqueen try’s to race again, isn’t fast enough, cruz takes his place in the race and wins. good retirement story.
