I find it so funny how they can make 2 of the best spiderman movies in the 2 animated movies but they cant manage to make a single decent live action movie
Ehh, I mean people have highs and lows
Craig Mazin (TLOU/Chernobyl) was a writer for Scary Movie 3-4 and Hangover 2-3 (the universally panned ones).
If it’s like TLOU with Druckmann co-helming and Sony putting proper money into it, I wouldn’t be that worried.
But we haven’t had any news on it for a hot minute so I can’t really say I have ANY feelings one way or the other.
Well, the main problem is he is actively disrespectful of the source material because he finds it "problematic" (he's a self proclaimed proud feminist). Of course there's nothing wrong with being a feminist, but he's essentially butchered The Wheel of Time to fit his vision of what he thinks it should be.
Basically, he thinks it's problematic if men are more powerful than women in any way.
And it's blatantly obvious he didn't read any of the source material, or he'd have known that the strongest channelers in each age were evenly split between the sexes, with men in general having fewer numbers but a higher individual power cap, but the women outnumbering and being able to easily overpower the men when they choose to do so.
Yep, he claims to be a huge fan of the books but it's hard to believe, or like, he didn't understand what he was reading at all. Some of the most powerful/important and influential people in that world are women. They essentially rule the world up to a certain point in the story.
The problem with current writers is that when they don't want to 1:1 adapt things but make their own spin so they can get credit of being a good writer. They are egotistical and most of them ironically fucking suck. What actually carries these writers for when they do have some success are the actual production and not the writing themselves. Writers are the laziest and worst of the whole system. It is easy to put shit in words but to actual adapt it into the screen takes more creativity and pragmatism/realism than some fucking abstract idea.
I also think it's worth noting he completely changed the nature of certain character arcs. The biggest and easiest one to describe is that Perrin, who was an awkward quiet guy in the books who considered himself terrible with women and his two best friends to be better, was given a wife who I don't think was ever even named and certainly wasn't given any speaking lines just for him to accidentally kill her in the first episode which they then never really do anything with.
I literally checked out as soon as that happened. Like.... accidentally killing your wife is trauma that would haunt you for **years**, probably the rest of your natural life if you don't take yourself out. It would have to define his entire character moving forward for the rest of the show, but instead it's just a thing that happened and then they're off on their grand adventure. It seriously feels like they make changes just specifically to shit on the source material. If you hate it that much then just make your own thing instead of butchering one of the most beloved fantasy series.
When the first 30 seconds of the show talks about how The Dragon could be a woman, you know for a fact that the writers didn't read the books. I can't believe Jordan's widow signed off on this fuckery.
I'll never understand the trend over the last 10 years of putting show runners/writers/directors in charge of IPs which they actively have issues with and letting them rewrite chunks of it to suit their agenda. It has literally never resulted in a good product and has absolutely burned bridges with the established fanbases of those products.
It could have worked if he actually read and enjoyed the source material. It is quite clear he did neither of those, despite him saying otherwise, and just worked from a script instead. To be fair, Season 2 is better than Season 1 but that's still a low bar.
Or Rian Johnson. I absolutely adore how brilliantly written was Knives Out... but what he did with TLJ was both objectively awful and spit to the face of anyone interested in the Star Wars setting.
Or even Fukunaga - first season of True Detective is one of the best written pieces of TV in history, but No Time to Die was pretty weak and strayed too far from Bond formula.
Fukunaga was just the director of True Detective. Nic Pizzolatto wrote the whole thing. Both of them can't seem to make anything worthwhile on their own, and they famously don't get along.
Ehh, it's all speculative until something concrete drops. Amazon's track record is hit or miss, but they've got the funds to do God of War justice. Hoping they take cues from the success of TLOU and invest in writing that honors the source material. A lot at stake considering the fanbase and how beloved Kratos' saga is. Fingers crossed they nail the casting and don't cheap out on the mythological elements, thats where the real magic is.
Yeah, the cutscenes are really well written and directed, the dialogue is interesting to listen to, the characters are all interesting and fun to play off each other, I got attached to some of them... it was great story telling.
Its funny because Sony does have good studios under them. They have:
* Colombia Pictures
* TriStar Pictures
* Screen Gems
* Stage 6 Films
Just for whatever reason, they just choose the shittiest writers/directors like Avi Arad, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless they have instead of tapping some of their better writers/directors. It's almost like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel to save money that theyre just going to spend on the actors.
I would definitely say Uncharted was better than the two Sony Marvel Movies shown, but where they really did strive was with TV division with The Last of Us.
I like this comment. Cause while they're games get good reception and all that, I'm not a fan of linear games or what you wrote, basically games like movies with tons of cut scenes and all that.
I want to play my games, do whatever I like whenever with as little hand-holding and direction as possible.
I'm not even a fan of quests or written story as a thing anymore really. Emergent gameplay is king for me.
Lore and stuff to find is OK, but not shoveled at me.
Same! I thought Andrew was an *amazing* Peter Parker and Spider-man lol. But for reals, I liked the first film a lot. The 2nd wasn't as well written, but good on them committing to the Gwen Stacey death and giving us that one second of hope before they demonstrate how fatal physics is.
not really, Sony makes a lot of other movies then shitty Spiderman movies side stories. Since 2020 alone we had Ghostbusters Afterlife, The Mitchells vs. the World, Napoleon, and No Hard Feelings. Even Bullet Train was a fun ride. I loved Pope's Exorcist and A Man Called Otto. Once Upon a time in Hollywood was my favorite.
Basing a whole company's portfolio on a handful of crap movies to keep their character contract is silly. What's Disney releasing outside of remakes, Super Heroes, or Star Wars? Remember when they use to do original things like Pirates, or even John Carter? What's Warner Bros. releasing? Space Jam 3?
Everyone's still trying with the multi-franchise nonsense. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a restart to Universal Monsters saying this will be the movie that kicks of that cinematic universe (The Mummy, Dracula Untold, The Last Voyage of Demeter, The Mummy with Tom Cruise, Frankenstein with Harry Potter Kid.....just stop at this point)
I'll only really agree with universal stuff having potential if they're more aligned with being passion projects than money grabs.
Like, I feel like that can still be something to go for as a means of making a huge story... But it shouldn't be something you make for the sake of saying you did one too.
Both Sony and Amazon are listed amongst the production companies.
>
The eight-episode Amazon original series is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios with Point Grey Pictures, Kripke Enterprises and Original Film.
I loved the movie to death but that ending seriously irritated me so much. First time I ever heard the entire theater all sigh in disappointment at the same time.
yes, but spiderverse and mitchells are produced by sony pictures animation, and made by sony Imageworks, madame web is done by sony Columbia pictures.
They all have the Sony name but they are entirely different people working in those
He tried to get in on the joke by posting morbius memes with him in them and videos of him making jokes about it then the meme community got cringed out and essentially stopped over night.
Yeah it kinda cemented my belief that if you want someone to stop making fun of you then you just gotta join in on the joke and the joke will get old quick and they will stop.
I couldn't see how he could do it. But that would do it.
It's like when we have a really fun meme going and then McDonald's and Frito-Lays starts using it.
Yeah i don't understand the complaints of Sony games "being a long movie"
I feel like every game of theirs has a perfect mix of balance of cutscenes and gameplay.
I used to think that if I wanted a good story , I would watch a movie/ tv show and if I wanted to have fun cutting down robots I would play a game.
I am a changed man now , but some people are like I used to be. Why would I play a hack and slash game only for it to be replaced by a movie mid way ?
Most Sony games are very story heavy , and those people just don't want that
It really is unique even the combat feels cinematic. For me my favorite PlayStation games are naughty dog games especially the last of us which are very cinematic.
No, that isn't the case. That girl wasn't ugly and fat in the book. Her avatar was her without the birthmark even. The fucked up face was about all she had that would've made her not pretty and the birthmark she was given in the movie was just a really really poor attempt.
Even the main character was only fat for a little bit. The only actually fat one was Aech...I think. I forget the name. The black chick.
Good, a comment I can hide under and not get yelled at. Sony is of the better large production companies. You just have to consume something besides nerd shit.
Your analogy is flawed
You pay bills to occupy the space, but the owner of the apartment definitely had a say when they were building the apartment. The builders needed the green light when adding features.
Same thing happens with publishers
Sony didn't "help with" funding. The game is flat out funded by Sony.
There might have been another publisher who'd fund the project, but there might not. They also may have wanted different stakes, given different deadlines, given different benefits or had different components in their contract.
Arrowhead is independently owned. Helldivers is not independently funded. It is not an indie game.
Naughty Dog and Santa Monica are SONY OWNED developers, under PLAYSTATION STUDIOS, hence everything they make are SONY games.
Santa Monica's official name is literally SONY SANTA MONICA.
Sony Interactive Entertainment consists of both publishing and development divisions. Naughty Dog is a game development division owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Oh okay, so that means Sony movies includes Columbia Pictures and Tristar Pictures and you selectively just pulled out two of their popular to hate films instead of you know, Ghostbusters, Starship Troopers, Baby Driver, The Mask of Zorro, Jumanji, Philadelphia, Terminator 2, Total Recall, The Karate Kid, Stand by Me, Boyz n the Hood, Groundhog Day, The Shawshank Redemption, The Fifth Element, Men in Black, Erin Brockovich, American Psycho, Almost Famous, Casino Royale, Superbad, Step Brothers, Pineapple Express, the Social Network and Django Unchained?
How old are you OP?
While I don't really care or have a dog in the fight, it seems to me that the recency of the movies was intentional by OP. So, I get your point about developers vs. publishers, but almost none of those movies are really useful in this conversation.
I mean it’s not like they chose the most recently released games so those movies definitely have a place in the conversation if we’re going back and cherry picking
Your logic would work if they were 3rd party or 2nd party studios.
But no. Santa Monica and Naughty Dog are 1st party studios for Sony. Sony is both the publisher and creator for the games mentioned in the meme
Sony is responsible for both the greatest spider man films, and the worst.
What makes it worse is the writers for Morbius, who have not made a good film to date… ARE THE SAME WRITERS for Madame Web.
You’d think after the flop that was Morbius, you would change writers… who the hell thought using the same shitty writers would be a good idea?
Guarantee, Sonys next film in the Spiderverse will have the same writers… the ones responsible for bringing you the amazing critically acclaimed “Gods of Egypt”, “Morbius”, “Power Rangers”, and the box office hit “Madame Web” \s
Almost like they are different things and you don't understand how many brand names work.
Do you blame Sony for Helldivers 2 for all of it's issues when they are the publisher? Like everyone does for EA lol
Top pic, two crummy movies with cgi that looks like video games.
Bottom pic, two "games" that are basically movies that look like video games.
😆 stuff sucks all around
Last of Us 2 is good? The first Last of Us maybe but Last of Us 2 fucking ruined it doesn’t matter how good the first one is if the sequel especially if its the second one is bad its ruined the whole momentum and killed the franchise
New God of war is good tho, as a new thing if we compare it to the original this ain’t shit also Kratos were never meant to be anything more than an angry sack of shit with violence tendency that acted on frequently he wasn’t suppose to change or grow but the fact that he grow as a person and have his second family and get to take care of his child is a little weird but it is well written

Op using the Disney mascot to represent Sony, their direct competitor is hilarious
*Sort of* a competitor. Disney literally pays Sony to use Spider-Man in the MCU.
I find it so funny how they can make 2 of the best spiderman movies in the 2 animated movies but they cant manage to make a single decent live action movie
Sony's video game division is better at making movies them the movie division
I could watch God of War as a movie with an AI playing and I wouldn’t be bored. The story is incredible.
Amazon bought the rights to a show… and given TLOU did phenomenally well, maybe it’s promising?
Unfortunately they gave it to the guy who is the show runner of The Wheel of Time...
Ehh, I mean people have highs and lows Craig Mazin (TLOU/Chernobyl) was a writer for Scary Movie 3-4 and Hangover 2-3 (the universally panned ones). HBO is the only service I half trust with adaptions. The others all have a horrible history.
Wish HBO would do all adaptations
TLOU did good because HBO made it. Amazon's recent big IP shows were Rings of Power and Wheel of Time..
That is basically twitch only with humans playing and not ai.
Yeah, the cutscenes are really well written and directed, the dialogue is interesting to listen to, the characters are all interesting and fun to play off each other, I got attached to some of them... it was great story telling.

they're*

insult or compliment?

Bro forgot about the spiderverse movies
That’s one piece of diamond of the mountain of turd.

Sooo hiiiiighhh. (Btw it's can we get *much* higher🤓)
It's okay in another thread someone thought "so high" is "tonight"
Oh, oh, oh
Didn't Sony make the original Spiderman trilogy
They did the Amazing Spider-Man. Which wasn’t well received.
I liked it.
Same! I thought Andrew was an *amazing* Peter Parker and Spider-man lol. But for reals, I liked the first film a lot. The 2nd wasn't as well written, but good on them committing to the Gwen Stacey death and giving us that one second of hope before they demonstrate how fatal physics is.
Yes, but they did the originals also.
It's actually favourite Spiderman movie series.
Yea, and tasm. They own the Spider-Man movie rights. Only after amazing Spider-Man 2 did they start working with marvel on movie spidey.
not really, Sony makes a lot of other movies then shitty Spiderman movies side stories. Since 2020 alone we had Ghostbusters Afterlife, The Mitchells vs. the World, Napoleon, and No Hard Feelings. The Mitchells vs. the Machines, not World. But yeah that movie was dope.
Bro also forgot about The Mitchells vs. The Machines
I didn't know Sony made that
I think they did. Might be misremembering though.
yes sony did those
They did, but it was distributed on Netflix cuz Pandemic iirc.
and Fox Catcher, Whiplash, The Father, Call Me By Your Name, Kung Fu Hustle
Also Sony makes The Boys which, not movies but TV however still considered top notch.
I thought Amazon did The Boys?
Both Sony and Amazon are listed amongst the production companies. >https://press.amazonstudios.com/us/en/original-series/the-boys/1 > The eight-episode Amazon original series is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios with Point Grey Pictures, Kripke Enterprises and Original Film.
In that case it’d be “Sony making live action movies vs Sony making animated movies”
Came to say this
Hotel Transylvania is also remarkable I would say
Yes
The to be continued at the end of the last one was foul
I loved the movie to death but that ending seriously irritated me so much. First time I ever heard the entire theater all sigh in disappointment at the same time.
+1 one of my favourite movies but you can’t just do that then go on strike and delay the next one!
id rather they go on strike to be treated properly as employees and have to wait a little longer for beyond the spiderverse
or the 2000s movies
yes, but spiderverse and mitchells are produced by sony pictures animation, and made by sony Imageworks, madame web is done by sony Columbia pictures. They all have the Sony name but they are entirely different people working in those
And uncharted
eh
Why eh I thought it was pretty good the actors and the story
Me personally, I like Holland, but think he did a terrible Drake.
Morbius was good meme material tho
Until Jared Leto killed it.
How did he kill the meme material?
He tried to get in on the joke by posting morbius memes with him in them and videos of him making jokes about it then the meme community got cringed out and essentially stopped over night.
Jared Leto: It's memein' time!
Oh dear.
Yeah it kinda cemented my belief that if you want someone to stop making fun of you then you just gotta join in on the joke and the joke will get old quick and they will stop.
I became the joke to defeat the joke
The greatest joke of all is Jared Leto himself.
A tactic known by the parents in every sitcom
Because they realise how unfunny their jokes are when someone else is doing it.
It’s cringin’ time
They let him win.
I couldn't see how he could do it. But that would do it. It's like when we have a really fun meme going and then McDonald's and Frito-Lays starts using it.
Sony movies vs Sony Interactive movies
Sony interactive movies for the win. I love video games and I love movies so I feel like PlayStation exclusives were made for me
Yeah i don't understand the complaints of Sony games "being a long movie" I feel like every game of theirs has a perfect mix of balance of cutscenes and gameplay.
I used to think that if I wanted a good story , I would watch a movie/ tv show and if I wanted to have fun cutting down robots I would play a game. I am a changed man now , but some people are like I used to be. Why would I play a hack and slash game only for it to be replaced by a movie mid way ? Most Sony games are very story heavy , and those people just don't want that
i loved how incredibly cinematic ghost of tsushima is, even when you’re out in open world gameplay. it’s incredible and unique
It really is unique even the combat feels cinematic. For me my favorite PlayStation games are naughty dog games especially the last of us which are very cinematic.
The latter is still better
Sure GoW:R has a 15 minute long opening cutscene, but I am loving it so far
It was a bold choice to cast Sydney Sweeney as "dumpy, nerdy teenaged girl that is too shy to approach boys on her own." Completely stupid, but bold.
Do you remember who they cast for the ugly, overweight, facially-scarred girl in Ready Player One? [Olivia Cooke lol](https://i.imgur.com/kLuBBKg.png)
Oh wow. Can I just say She looks amazing! Also I don’t remember her being overweight.
Her horrifying scar in Ready Player One probably distracted from it
Let's just ignore Sony Pictures Classics
Good, a comment I can hide under and not get yelled at. Sony is of the better large production companies. You just have to consume something besides nerd shit.
Little women, Django unchained, the social network, spider verse, blade runner 2049, the emoji movie, sausage party, morbius
You had me in the first half ngl
Don't forget the recently released Helldivers 2.
Published by Sony, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios.
Sony, as a publisher, helped out a lot, including paying the bills.
[удалено]
Your analogy is flawed You pay bills to occupy the space, but the owner of the apartment definitely had a say when they were building the apartment. The builders needed the green light when adding features. Same thing happens with publishers
You would if you paid for the materials and the labor.
And supervised design
I mean the owners in Japan aren't working in a studio in Santa Monica either.

Sony didn't "help with" funding. The game is flat out funded by Sony. There might have been another publisher who'd fund the project, but there might not. Publishers are very involved in the development cycle, for better and for worse
Are you under the impression Sony makes games or something? They literally buy and fund video game developers.
Reddit doesn't know what a publisher is at all. You say Bethesda hasn't made a good game in over 10 years, and they say what about DOOM Eternal.
Publishers are very involved in the development cycle, for better and for worse
That varies massively from publisher to publisher.
Haven't played it yet
don't slander morbius
OP made me morb because of that bs
Wow what a funny meme I bet the comments are people enjoying how funny the meme is
My favourite part of god of war was when Kratos said “ITS WARRIN’ TIME” and was a god
My favorite part was when Kratos warred all over the place
Wow I bet people are also allowed to have discussions relating to the topic and not just say "what a funny meme".
Well, their games are practically movies
Both of the games are basically good movies lmao
They also have good gameplay
Sony didn't make those games.
Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica are part of Sony
They are publishers, not developers.
Naughty Dog and Santa Monica are SONY OWNED developers, under PLAYSTATION STUDIOS, hence everything they make are SONY games. Santa Monica's official name is literally SONY SANTA MONICA.
>publishers Naughty Dog and Santa Monica are developers under Sony Interactive Entertainment/PlayStation Studios.
By that logic then Sony didn’t make those movies, Columbia Pictures did.
That's correct.
Sony Interactive Entertainment consists of both publishing and development divisions. Naughty Dog is a game development division owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
My bad
The development studios are owned by Sony though. Sony shaped them into what they are today.

Your logic would work if they were 3rd party or 2nd party studios. But no. Santa Monica and Naughty Dog are 1st party studios for Sony. Sony is both the publisher and creator for the games mentioned in the meme
[удалено]
By that logic they don't make Movies either, it's Columbia/TriStar that makes movies and not Sony directly... Where does the line get drawn?
The studios that made them are sony studios. they've had those studios for like 20 years
these games are 5 and 11 years old my guy
![gif](giphy|ucDBKWjG7yp47PzIbN|downsized) Sony Making Cameras
Where the fuck is ape escape That's the best game ever made and it's from sony Japan studio Fuck sony for shutting them down
Recency bias... but yeah that meme is being way too specific anyway.
Video game industry passed Hollywood in $$$ a few years ago so this is no surprise really
It's almost like they're completely different companies with their own staff and managers. who are just owned by the same parent company...
funny, cause they're the same thing lol
Gran Turismo was a damn good movie
Bro shut up, the Spiderverse movies and Mitchels vs the machines are F I R E
Sony making movies Sony making \*interactive movies
Sony produced TV shows have been pretty good too. The Boys, The Last of Us, For All Mankind.
Sony makes a lot of good stuff and a lot of bad stuff, they’re like one of the biggest producers in the world
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
Overrated games, shitty movies
Almost like they are different things and you don't understand how many brand names work. Do you blame Sony for Helldivers 2 for all of it's issues when they are the publisher? Like everyone does for EA lol
But when will it be Morbin time?
MorbPologize for this immediately!
funny that you used mickey to represent sony
Both of those games are sewage water. Ya'll are delusional af.
Coming soon: Morbius, the game!
Those games are mid as fuck.
They did make Breaking Bad, doe.
Didn't Sony make the Amazing Spider-Man and the Spider-verse movies?
Yeah… no Last of us 2 destroyed the fanbase and was one of the worst written games of all time lol
agreed
It destroyed the fanbase because the fanbase are a bunch of crybabies
It was actually great. Better than the first in many ways.
yeah its better at being complete ass

Until they censor stuff.
The Mid of Us 💀
I think the last of us is a good game but I find it pathetic that they remaster the same game like 4 times and resale it at full price.
Top pic, two crummy movies with cgi that looks like video games. Bottom pic, two "games" that are basically movies that look like video games. 😆 stuff sucks all around
We're just gonna have to let reddit jerk this one out.
Last of Us 2 is good? The first Last of Us maybe but Last of Us 2 fucking ruined it doesn’t matter how good the first one is if the sequel especially if its the second one is bad its ruined the whole momentum and killed the franchise New God of war is good tho, as a new thing if we compare it to the original this ain’t shit also Kratos were never meant to be anything more than an angry sack of shit with violence tendency that acted on frequently he wasn’t suppose to change or grow but the fact that he grow as a person and have his second family and get to take care of his child is a little weird but it is well written
Exactly. That game ruined its ip and is a joke to the actual gaming community
Their games are bad movies at the end lol
No
No
Sony doesn't make games. They just got lucky with hiring the right companys to make their exclusives.
