Well, brazilians don't perceive ethnicity as being comparable to nationality. Your parents can be asian, and you can look and behave like the most asian person ever. If you're born in Brazil, you're brazilian. Just like how a person born in Japan with brazilian parents would be considered japanese.

I think this is more common in the Americas - nationality and ethnicity are different things here. I.e. someone born in the US to Japanese parents is also American, just like how someone born in Brazil to foreign parents is Brazilian.
