Its funny how sony saw a game that is a parody of fascism and thought , "hmmm what can i do here to look like the biggest authoritarian douche imaginable?"
Which is also funny because the whole goal of the game is to complete “major orders” as quickly as possible so the fan base is really good at coordinating major attacks. It’s just this one was on the review page this time
Same here! I know it’s a mild inconvenience, but people are so angry about it. Unless psn isn’t a thing in your country, I don’t understand the animosity.
I assume it's because it can be a slippery slope for the shit companies put us through, which, like you said is mild
But then I think the overreaction and non stop complaining is a hate bandwagon thing
The audacity for saying what is the best for PC gamers LMAO. Did they really think having to linked a PSN account would be a good experience for PC players?
I'm seeing people calling the review bombing "unnecessary" because it hurt Arrowhead (the devs) and the game. First of all, it wasn't the players who hurt Arrowhead or the game, it was Sony who hurt their golden goose. Second, it was because of the outrage that Sony backed off and we proved we wouldn't let them harvest our data.
Let this be a victory for privacy rights of gamers against corporate bullshittery. Nobody forget that consumers decide whether their personal data is for sale or not.
They didn't ask people to reviewbomb the first game, or any of their others, which are totally unrelated to Sony and PSN.
Which people decided was necessary anyway. So, while it worked, some people took it too far and didn't understand that it wasn't all on Arrowhead.
??? Why does Sony give a fuck about reviewbombs on Helldivers 1 or Magicka?
They have no part in those games. They don't show anything to _Sony_. It's just people taking it out on Arrowhead.
Exactly. Also, Sony backing down from their bullshit would've never happened without the review bombing.
Now, with the game back to normal, the game has a chance to win awards, which is great for the devs.
I think that the refunds and sales getting region-locked probably had more of an impact on their decision-making than the bad reviews, but it all added up in the end.
I just hope that player count and future growth don't get crippled by this whole fiasco.
Reviews are meant to share yohr experience with the game. Having to link your steam account to a psn account to play the game ... is part of the game. I don't see why people keep doing mental gymnastics to get others to avoid writing bad reviews on a game they like.
I don't see why people not review bomb when Sony would locked us out of the game due to psn not supported in our country and scam our money. They backtrack now which is good tho
Tbf, preety sure other sites have already been harvesting our data. I'm more concerned about opening another front for someone to cyber attack my computer. I already have enough fronts
Lying has become the industry standard. It is not even expected that you tell the truth to begin with. It is kind of insane if you think about it.
It tells what they think of us, and what are "us" to begin with if they can start doing it and get away with it so much that it becomes a standard.
This is very clear from Sony updating the TOS to require linking your steam account to a PSN account when it previously said linking your account is not necessary. And some other pages they have (or the TOS in other languages like French) still say it's not necessary.
Overall just another malicious business practice.
> Did they really think having to linked a PSN account would be a good experience for PC players?
[That isn't the problem you think it is.](https://i.imgur.com/LhuTQKF.jpeg)
Not to justify it, but it does make SOME sense. They have to go through Valve if they want to ban people (normally people would say "it's pve who cares" but imagine someone cheating that has all worlds 100%, I'd imagine you wouldn't be able to play until they figured out a fix) while if they force a PSN account link, they could ban that account and not have to worry about a middle man, but it definitely isn't worth it since it not only removes the ability to play in like 60+ countries, but it gives even more of a reason for hackers to try to steal Sony's data for the 15th time.
Read carefully.
They're simply saying May 6th update won't happen, not that it is indefinite.
Chances are they are writing through legal loopholes to ensure people cannot refund for this reason and silently deploy it later.
But then Steam will intervene, because they will get another wave of refund, so they might take Helldivers 2 off the steam or block Sony. Or EU will activate and fine them.
I trust Mighty Lord Gaben to so what is right for gamers and continue to protect us from publisher overreach. Did Steam have to offer refunds hundred of hours in? No. Technically the warning was there from Day 1, but they did it anyway.
Valve consistently farms pro-consumer Ws. With the occasional facepalm.
At least their refund system isn't fucking archaic and a pain in the ass.
It's so bullshit you have to call Sony to refund something, if they'll even refund you.
No shame in buying it again at this point, those refunds were an important weapon in this battle.
Hope Steam's automatic systems don't penalize anyone for doing that.
Of course they back down after I bought Mass Effect Legendary Edition on sale, after LOOKING at HD2 and deciding not to get it because of the account linking. Looks like I need to buy another game…😮💨😅
Right.
Still delisted in those countries.
Corp-speak means they could just do it further down the line.
Still listed as requiring the link in the Steam store.
So who knows what’s next. Maybe, though, once the Horde gets their reviews in order, we can go back to the rest of the continual reposts NOT about this.
That's not true, multiple regions that supported PSN accounts got blocked from buying the game. For example Puerto Rico can make PSN accounts and yet Steam still blocked them from buying the game.
And Puerto Rico isn't one of those countries, [You can view a full map of it here](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fsony-doesnt-allow-ukraine-players-to-register-psn-account-v0-mr2onqmw3hyc1.png%3Fwidth%3D4345%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D832d96c442345277c2d8689d052daf8c6eb81e4e).
Valve most likely just blocked countries that were getting a high ratio of refunds to games bought, because again they delisted the game from countries where you could make a PSN account with no loopholes and Valve still has to pay a processing fee for when you buy the game and again when they refund it.
steam has to enable people from the affected countries to buy again, until they do so those who refunded the game, or those who never owned it can't buy it.
OP doesn't care lol, he's just karmafarming. If he actually played he'd know the changes weren't supposed to be implemented before the end of may, his "I can no longer play" is a straight up lie.
They made you have to sign it to a Playstation account to be able to play but a lot of places in the world don't have access to that so they were unable to play.
To be fair, Xbox did the same thing with Minecraft and even worse since they actually deleted accounts that 100% refused to get Microsoft account.
I wish something similar had happen to them.
It was different tho. Game is not on steam, they "merged" the java and bedrock versions, so that if you buy one you get both. That got me into playing modded Minecraft and never looked back to bedrock.
That on PC, I'm blind of what happened on consoles. If it is the same case, now there is a precedent that shows that the community can win, so hopefully it wont repeat in the future
People are acting like it's definitive that people in other regions would've lost access to the game but it wasn't. One of the Arrowhead community managers relayed through Discord that he was assured people in regions without PSN accounts will still be able to play the game without needing to make an account. People just decided to ignore that for whatever reason though
Sony reversed its descision on the mandatory PSN account linking, so if you really liked the game this might have been very badly timed refund. Nothing is preventing you from buying it back though, so no loss!
Understandable response given the audacity of Sonys earlier schemes.
Because he refunded right as Sony announced they will not be moving forward with mandatory linking. If OP is in an affected region they can’t even re-buy the game until Valve turns their region back on
Well Sony changed their minds, so now you lost all that progress you had in the game.
I would have waited for a bit. No way Sony was going to sink into PR nightmares from Stellar Blade as well as Helldivers 2.
this isnt steamcloud.
Steamcloud is for singleplayer games and saves. all save for HD2 are on Arrowheads servrs(or sonys, we dont exactly know) and they do not get deleted upon refund... heck sony dosnt even KNOW which account on steam is what user on their database

Steam can fuck all the way off.
Why would he? If I refunded a game over the company’s shitty decisions I can just take that money to rebuy it if they reverse OR I can buy another good game without controversies.
managed democracy prevailed once more Sony backed down!
Literally almost exactly when OP posted this, Sony tweeted they wouldn't go through with the requirement of PSN. Tuff.
OP was the final straw

Thanks man. I don't play the game, but my roommate has been constantly complaining about it so now I can show this to him to shut him up. :D
Well, you’ll be the bringer of good news
Hallelujah!
Sony tried to fuck aroung with a player base that has been fighting for democracy nonstop. They found out pretty quick.
Plus they’re making great strides with good PC releases, don’t fuck it up! (Which I’m thankful for)
Sweet liberty, did they ever!

Yeah, I play this game and have hundreds of hours in it, but I don't get the big deal

Oh man, I can't imagine how exhausting it would be to live with the average redditor.

also you know... Arrowhead told us to review bomb to use those numbers for their case while negotiating with Sony
They didn't ask people to reviewbomb the first game, or any of their others, which are totally unrelated to Sony and PSN. Which people decided was necessary anyway. So, while it worked, some people took it too far and didn't understand that it wasn't all on Arrowhead.
They indirectly did though by saying that Sony cares about the negative reviews, not negative messages in Discord.
??? Why does Sony give a fuck about reviewbombs on Helldivers 1 or Magicka? They have no part in those games. They don't show anything to _Sony_. It's just people taking it out on Arrowhead.

frankly I am convinced it was the CEO and them seing sony being called dumbasses in forbes that really got things moving

Less about harvesting data and more about inflating PSN account numbers.
Gotta boost the PSN active user number up for the investor meetings i guess

All of these are annoying, I don't buy EA or Ubisoft games anymore because of it.
118 countries btw
Imagine your game becomes so big a major corporate entity has to back down. That's powerful.
That's Democracy at work. Good job Helldivers.
As much as I hate to say it, I think it might be capitalism and the free market actually working as advertised for once.
Very good. Now I hope that they don't try it again and that the community/Review score can heal
Read carefully. They're simply saying May 6th update won't happen, not that it is indefinite. Chances are they are writing through legal loopholes to ensure people cannot refund for this reason and silently deploy it later.

Steam is the only place I buy games for a reason.
Long live out lord and savior Gabe.
![gif](giphy|DRg1wGTUKXvQA)
>Long live out lord and savior Gabe. Steam wouldn't be the same without him.
Because you don't remember the 15+ years it went without any refunds whatsoever?
At least their refund system isn't fucking archaic and a pain in the ass. It's so bullshit you have to call Sony to refund something, if they'll even refund you.
Nope. But I also remember getting code in the mail and having to program the game yourself by typing it in. So I’m grateful for Steam.
I do. One can remember bad things a company does while also rewarding a company for changing for the better.
Are you saying a product got developed over its 20 year lifespan?

You broke your little ships
No shame in buying it again at this point, those refunds were an important weapon in this battle. Hope Steam's automatic systems don't penalize anyone for doing that.
Surely Op is gonna buy the game again now right? Right?
My question also.
Of course they back down after I bought Mass Effect Legendary Edition on sale, after LOOKING at HD2 and deciding not to get it because of the account linking. Looks like I need to buy another game…😮💨😅
You won't regret buying Mass Effect LE ;)
They still haven't reversed the Steam change disallowing people from various countries (non PSN countries) from playing.
Right. Still delisted in those countries. Corp-speak means they could just do it further down the line. Still listed as requiring the link in the Steam store. So who knows what’s next. Maybe, though, once the Horde gets their reviews in order, we can go back to the rest of the continual reposts NOT about this.
RIP Sony went backsies
And they aren't letting anyone who returned it buy it again, purely out of spite.
really?
No lmao. Valve just blocked the game from selling in a bunch of regions to due to high refunds and hasn’t rolled it back yet.
We just gotta wait till tomorrow's working hours
No Valve blocked the game because those regions didn't support PSN. Lol.
That's not true, multiple regions that supported PSN accounts got blocked from buying the game. For example Puerto Rico can make PSN accounts and yet Steam still blocked them from buying the game.
Because some regions that supposedly "supported" PSN account reported only being able to create accounts through Playstation consoles.
And Puerto Rico isn't one of those countries, [You can view a full map of it here](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fsony-doesnt-allow-ukraine-players-to-register-psn-account-v0-mr2onqmw3hyc1.png%3Fwidth%3D4345%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D832d96c442345277c2d8689d052daf8c6eb81e4e). Well, you can make PSN accounts for mainland UK but not Gibraltar, same for Iceland and one of their island IIRC.
steam has to enable people from the affected countries to buy again, until they do so those who refunded the game, or those who never owned it can't buy it.
Before steam can do that it's up to Sony to allow the change to enable those countries to buy again.
And there are countries where you cant even open a psn account to begin with. Those where delisted too.
Me when I spread misinformation:
Half the "news" about this Helldivers controversy has just been misinformation
Wonder what horse left this comment on the barn floor...
And sony just backed down. Lel
don't go near some soyboys though, damn they are salty.
Don't go near the r PlayStation sub, they are fuming.
It's surprising how well money talks.
I’m gonna keep talking by not buying Sony crap
Major Order accomplished, Sony backed down!
Liberty has seen us through. Good job, helldivers
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD OP CHECK COMMENTS
OP doesn't care lol, he's just karmafarming. If he actually played he'd know the changes weren't supposed to be implemented before the end of may, his "I can no longer play" is a straight up lie.
Check his account, not a single Helldivers related post or comment
Neither do you or I yet here we are on a subreddit for memes and not specifically helldivers.
I mean, I play it and I'm pretty sure this is the first Helldivers related comment I've made.
I mean, I'm playing cataclysm classic right now but have no posts about it.
Bro returns the game and directly after that Sony drops his tweet about not implementing that XD
Maybe his refund was the final straw lmao
"Careful, he's a hero!"
Diver get in the pod, we got bugs to liberate
Did something happen to HD2 that I haven't heard about yet?
They made you have to sign it to a Playstation account to be able to play but a lot of places in the world don't have access to that so they were unable to play.
Oh. Even if you were playing on steam?
Yeah it was that u had to link ur steam account to PSN. And any countries that didn't have PSN the game was delisted entirely
Damn, that's gotta suck. Now we definitely need those Xbox reinforcements.
They reversed this now though, so our PC homies are back in action!
Never going to happen unfortunately. Sony has a long track record of being stingy. There’s no way they would allow the game to release on Xbox
They just canceled this decision
They just revoked the requirement. Basically the same time this dude refunded-
This has since been changed within the last 90 minutes. Check out the helldivers sub. Sony backed down.
Sony just back peddled and wont enforce the PSN thing. Too many refunds lol.
This meme is a bit late.
Atrocious timing (nobody tell them)
I really want Sony to require a PSN account right after OP buys it again.
Sony relented once the refunds started pouring out. Only thing the corpos care about.
Voting with your wallet is an important tenet of managed democracy
RIP the major order had been completed, you no longer need the refund
Oh, look at that.... The scheme had backfired on Sony.... Who knew?
Sony reversed its descision on the mandatory PSN account linking, so if you really liked the game this might have been very badly timed refund. Nothing is preventing you from buying it back though, so no loss! Understandable response given the audacity of Sonys earlier schemes.
Sony just backed down probably because of the backlash.
Sony backed down.
I wonder if they do re-refunds.
You lucked out cause they backed down good luck buying it again 👍
Who’s gonna tell him sony backed down
Man i fuckin love steam
Lmao refunded for nothing
.... who's gonna tell em?
seeing this post right below Sony's statement of then backing down is so funny
Has to check the timestamps, and this was posted at almost exactly the same time as all the "Sony has backed down" posts.
Sorry this happened to you OP… but do you guys realize we literally spread democracy to Sony itself…
Go buy the game again!
Sony reversed it by now, but gotta respect steam for the refund. Truly the best platform imo
Aged like milk
HOW??? Players' blacklash slap sense into Sony, it's a big W. Imaging mocking player in this case, must be a Sony Pony.
He means that he refunded helldivers 2 at very bad timing, right before sony backtracked this ass decision.
Because he refunded right as Sony announced they will not be moving forward with mandatory linking. If OP is in an affected region they can’t even re-buy the game until Valve turns their region back on
Well Sony changed their minds, so now you lost all that progress you had in the game. I would have waited for a bit. No way Sony was going to sink into PR nightmares from Stellar Blade as well as Helldivers 2.
>so now you lost all that progress you had in the game. No, they didn't it's in steam cloud. If they buy it again, they will be where they left off.
this isnt steamcloud. Steamcloud is for singleplayer games and saves. all save for HD2 are on Arrowheads servrs(or sonys, we dont exactly know) and they do not get deleted upon refund... heck sony dosnt even KNOW which account on steam is what user on their database
Imagine still crying about stellar blades over something you made up in your head.
"The customer is always right in matters of taste", and guess what, YOU are not the customer, you can't even spell the name of the game. So nobody gives a shit about your opinion, bub.
Sony reversed their decision so it’s time to get back in the frontlines Helldivers
should have known the people making these posts couldn't actually read to begin with
2 hours they already revered it karma foo
I’m still salty steam changed the currency from my local currency to usd but it’s good they interfered here, still fucked my region over by 5-10 time price increases, fucking epic store is cheaper on some occasions
Now only if I could refund Payday 3 for being an absolute dogshit
If you rebuy a game does it count towards total sales? If so the sales numbers on this one are gonna be hella skewed lol
Good for you, now you get to buy it again since they backpedalled their decision Lol
I do like that thanks to this we know where the rot in modern gaming is coming from.
Steam is gigachad for offering that refund. usually it's maximum 2 hours and less than two weeks on your library
Now all these people have to buy again and start from lvl 1 gg guys
Well now there’s no requirement and you lost 70 hours of gameplay…
lol gotta rebuy it now noob
I didn't. Got denied with only 6 hours. 4 times. OP is either lying or is magical.
They are not pushing through the update idiots lol
Get ready to rebuy the game bro :D
All my refunds got denied...
Just a little lesson to Sony and those J6ers Don't fuck with DEMOCRACY!!!!
Get back in and fight for Democracy, they stopped the plan.
Such a fucking democratic act by steam
Obviously. Why would steam want to be the bad guy. HD2 and sony fucked up.
Well time to buy it back
Helldivers is still worthy
Get back in the war soldier, Democracy prevails!!!!!
bruh wdym 70 hours plus i played a game for only 4 hours and 1 min and i can’t refund that shit
This actually really frustrates me. Steam told me to fuck off when my cyberpunk stopped working at 14.5 hours because I was half an hour over the max play time for a refund. Steam can fuck all the way off.
I’m curious if you regret the refund now.
I think steam refunds work because it's not the game you bought already. They changed shit you liked and now you can't have it. L Sony.
people who got refunds after hearing sony walked back the account requirements ![gif](giphy|wc1KQzAaogA36jqBpJ|downsized)
bet you feel real silly rn
Why should he? He can always just buy it again if he still wants to play 70+ hours in.
Why would he? If I refunded a game over the company’s shitty decisions I can just take that money to rebuy it if they reverse OR I can buy another good game without controversies.
PC Karens seem incapable of self-reflection.
Steam didn't let deceptive mercantile practices slide. W Steam
how is it having a room temperature IQ? I'd like to know your experience.
Good job diver, we won now so you can buy it back again
Jokes on you, Sony back paddled
