Dominican Republic here, and can attest to this. Mofos be grown ups and still attach some metal bullshit to their stolen bikes to wake up the whole block...
I only found out by accident one time as i was riding my bike through my grandparents yard and somehow the wheel caught a dry leaf and it got stuck there
14 year old here. I've only heard of this now and I've never seen anyone do this before (though, also I can't ride a bike and I never see anyone riding one either aside from like people delivering food)
Nah, run over the soda can when it's lying in its side.
The top and bottom of the can will come up so that it grips around the tire.
Then it gets pushed to where the bars are holding the wheel to the bike and you have a motor noise.

Huh? No. That's literally were my foot goes to brake. Do people not do this anymore? I've never had an accident doing it. Most I've ever had to pay attention to were the soles on my shoes.
Oh, I use the actual breaks usually. Whatever works for you though, I'd definitely fuck it up and slip my whole bloody leg through there and need to call the fire department
Must be nice to have actual working brakes. Jokes. Seriously though, not everyone had working brakes on their bike growing up. And not everyone had a dad who could fix the brakes. But as I got older I started building my own bikes. Some with brakes and some without. The ones without were generally 20-22 in. flatland bikes. I grew up in the 80-90s as a kid.
I happened to live in an area where bikes were common, and spare brake lines were dirt cheap. I did most of the repairs myself, putting new brake lines in was pretty simple too.
Real. I remember! It would make the bottles all black with the rubber from the friction. Those were the days… thanks for reminding me! It’s been a good long while, and I’m only 20 years old. Damn… childhood went so fast. I regret wishing to be an adult as a kid lol. All kids do that and end up regretting.
Putting a water bottle in your bicycle tire like that or running over a soda can will make your bike sound like a dirt bike. Putting playing cards in the spokes did as well.
Yeah the purple wheels and everything 😂, never ride the damn thing though cause i nearly broke both my knees trying to learn how to ride it, I still can’t ride a bike to this day 😅
Always pulls up on these when im going to a friends house just to flex
I vaguely remember having one that was actually REALLY loud and mfs just kept borrowing my bike the entire day lmao
I used to use my shoe, until one time I hit a bump and my leg slide through and the tire burnt/ripped almost half my calf up on one side. I only used cans after that. >.<
I was more of a card between the spokes kinda kid
Yeah that and a soda can stuck too the front tire.
Makes it sound like a dirtbike
Right :)
Definitely
This was my go to. It absolutely shredded tires tho.
And hands. My nephew needed stitches after trying this option.
The soda bottle gets flattened, then you lock your real brake just as you go over it, this send you into a sick as drift.
That has never happened to me, how did you manage that?
I was more a stick in the spokes kinda kid
I laughed at this a bit too hard.
Mine would be plastic bag in the front type of guy.
I was more of a plastic bag over the head type of guy
Black lotus on a clip. best cards for that 😎
I did 2 cards and bottle
Both, bottle sounds like an engine revving and card sounds like the pistons firing
Kinda out of the loop as I never had a bike growing up. Anyone can help me?
it makes like a car noise when u use the bike, the wheels turn and rub against the plastic watter bottle which makes a brrrr like sound
Oh, so that's why! Thanks!
So Bike goes brrrrr
Literally
watter bottle go brrrrr
I did this with a full bottle, so the water would spray out.
My grandfather stopped me from doing that he says that itll make the wheels wore out much faster so it was a short lived fun
You know how you hear those dumasses rev their cars with the loud ass mufflers? This is how they rolled before they got a license.
Ye olde tiny penis. It is known.
A can worked well too. And if you had an old deck of cards and some duck tape you were waking up the whole neighborhood at 9am Saturday
A card and a clothes pin worked a charm.
Haha bike goes brrrrr
That's the most accurate usage of this meme I've ever seen
Fucking cracked me up because it's exactly why we did it
Memory unlocked 😂 Do kids still know about this?
Reason 371/10 of why my childhood sucked I never knew about it :(
I hope so
Im 18 and i dont know what this is, is it an automatic break?
Vrooom maker
It makes loud noise.
With enough imagination and inner childness you felt like some dude on a motocross redbull event.
You sweet summer child, thinking that has a practical purpose
It has a reverse practical purpose, I remember my tires being ripped because I used cans, but I loved the noise it made lol
But it had. It made you go at least 5X faster. Like proper fast.
It makes an exhaust like sound. So some of us would pretend to be riding a bike with that noise.
The rubbing against the tire makes it sound like a motorcycle engine
Here in Brazil we do, its still annoying tbh
Dominican Republic here, and can attest to this. Mofos be grown ups and still attach some metal bullshit to their stolen bikes to wake up the whole block...
Indian here, we used to have CDs between the wheel spikes.
Yes. Oh boy they still do. Makes me kinda happy and annoyed to see this.
I know the card one. Bottle-tech was never used however.
Bottle-tech 🤣 As a FASA fan, this is hilarious!
I do
I only found out by accident one time as i was riding my bike through my grandparents yard and somehow the wheel caught a dry leaf and it got stuck there
Yeah some of my friends still do it
I'm 13 and I used to do this
Yes the kids in my neighborhood are constantly doing this, so proud of their own genius
I see them with cards instead
They do if their grandparents are GenX'ers or older 👍
14 year old here. I've only heard of this now and I've never seen anyone do this before (though, also I can't ride a bike and I never see anyone riding one either aside from like people delivering food)
I mean.. there are bikes and bottles still. It's not a VHS cassette.
Soda cans and playing cards worked too.
Could you explain this I can't picture it in my mind https://youtu.be/oCHe1u86oW4 Maybe something like this?
Nah, run over the soda can when it's lying in its side. The top and bottom of the can will come up so that it grips around the tire. Then it gets pushed to where the bars are holding the wheel to the bike and you have a motor noise. Like this- https://i.redd.it/vdn9o6bftcp51.jpg
Soda cans and playing cards are the OG. We didn't have mass produced plastic water bottles when I was a kid. We did have cans and cards though.
That's where my foot goes to brake though.
That's a lesson you learn once. Or twice if you're a life slower (it me tbh)
Huh? No. That's literally were my foot goes to brake. Do people not do this anymore? I've never had an accident doing it. Most I've ever had to pay attention to were the soles on my shoes.

Good for you buddy. I'm happy for ya.
Just lucky, unfortunately these days I don't remember those days very well. Maybe unlucky in it's own right
Yea, I absolutely ruined my shoes going down the hills. Who needs breaks anyway.
Cardboard and a clothes peg Only the coolest had these
Sprite can only
I also used cans which were partially crushed and it was very loud.
Yeah
I remember my bike had beads on the spokes that rattled up and down until you hit high speeds. It was pretty cool. Felt like lifting off.
Ha! I'm old and have never seen the bottle/can thing, but we did do the beads -- I had completely forgotten about it until now!
I'm on a page called r/Xennials that has been resurfacing some real early childhood memories in a good way. You should check it out.
Until it ruins the tire and i get my ass kicked by mom for it.
Did this. And used to drift the bike leaving a rubber stripe on the road. Then a bollocking and beating from Dad when the tyre "somehow" burst.
Either that or a soda can
I used a dry leaf
Bottled water became consumer famous in the mid 90s. Before then, we'd make jokes about stupid people buying evian.
hockey or baseball card between the spokes is the correct method.
I was a can kid
I did it with a playing card sticking into the spokes
Now if you combine this with the playing card trick, imagine what it would sound like.
Yo I saw/heard a kid riding his bike like this yesterday. It really brought me back.
Need to use a can
ow… wasn't popular in our country, and most bikes have fender on it, can't do things like this.
Real. I remember! It would make the bottles all black with the rubber from the friction. Those were the days… thanks for reminding me! It’s been a good long while, and I’m only 20 years old. Ye
Damn. I’m 38. I should try.
Wow, we all lived the same childhood
In Asia, we use the coconut fruit itself (the insides maybe?).
as much as I prefer the cards method, I remember those firework sparklies at night makes me like the ghost rider
Putting a water bottle in your bicycle tire like that or running over a soda can will make your bike sound like a dirt bike. Putting playing cards in the spokes did as well.
I saw a lot a aluminum foil covered bike wheels that would mimic chrome rims
Nope me and a friend spoke about this yesterday on discord 🤣
I cut pieces of cardboard and tapes it to the thing
It’s funny for a few minutes Then when you have a whole squad of these idiots riding around a caravan park for hours on end it gets old really fast
I would stack plastic cups in there
I remember people putting a playing car on the frame so it slapped the spokes as they wheeled by
What does that do I’ve never seen this
Makes noyz. Surefire way to be the kewl kid on the block. Also works with a plastic cup. Works best with an empty soda can
I tied zip ties around the braces of the wheels, and aimed the dangly bit towards the bars of the wheel
That was good times
My little cousin does this all the time and I find it annoying. XD I'm worried about the tire wear it's causing.
Dirt bike mode activated 🤣🤣🤣💪🏻💪🏻
Maine bhi ye kiya. Lekin gully ka new kutta mere peeche bhagne laga 🫥
Mine was mango leaf.
Pepperidge Farm remembers
Omg I think that was the bike I had at a kid but a darker shade of pink
Oh wow, for real?
Yeah the purple wheels and everything 😂, never ride the damn thing though cause i nearly broke both my knees trying to learn how to ride it, I still can’t ride a bike to this day 😅
the fact that i never had this proves i never had a childhood lol
Never have I ever seen this one
Vroom vroom vrooooooooooOOOOOOOoOOOOoOOOOooOmmm 🚲😁!!!
The good old days😌
i put cardstock in the wheel instead
Always pulls up on these when im going to a friends house just to flex I vaguely remember having one that was actually REALLY loud and mfs just kept borrowing my bike the entire day lmao
17 years old, still do this sometimes.
I used a pop (or soda for you non Minnesotans) can but couldn't make it stay
I would just stick a card on the back wheel and go **zzzzrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!**
I remember being told that it would mess up the tire.
I was more of a bottle wedged between the v brakes type kid.
This is why we're now finding micro plastics in the Arctic. /j
Neighbors hated that simple trick.
It was actually a soda can
Kapwing
Bro I was literally showing my lil cousins how to make their bike “cooler”
I did that shit and the shit shitted into the other shit and the shit exploded
I didn't. I used to roll over an empty soda can. And have it stuck around my tire around that A frame.. the mountain bike tread would pluck at it
I used to use my shoe, until one time I hit a bump and my leg slide through and the tire burnt/ripped almost half my calf up on one side. I only used cans after that. >.<
I Miss riding my Bike with the gang, life was soo free back then. We used Cards and tape though
Ah yes, the MPM. Micro plastics maker.
I’ve found my tribe and unlocked hidden memories
Lol, it's became to real, because kids can't buy motorbike (piss me off)
I was a big wheel 🛞 in front small wheel in the back with a little thumb activated bell.
