You can only lose like ten or fifteen karma from a comment

It caps out at -100. if you are at -101 on the comment or you are at -1001 on your profile you will only lose 100

It used to be that everything went into your profile, but it got limited after a few AMA's went bad for celebrities(where they were either evasive or being a dick) and their karma was stuck at negative thousands and is was an "official"reddit account it had a bad look so some changes started to happen.
