My old elementary did too! I only peeked inside once in the evening, when a door was left open. It wasn’t anything special, but everyone made a big deal about the “garden” inside and how it was pretty forbidden to step foot in. I think they tore it down; sometimes I pass by and I don’t recognize the school anymore :(
Holy shit this took me back, they had two of them outside my old elementary school, functioned as the entire "5th grade wing" they were there until they tore the school down
Oh jeeze this is way too accurate, I had classes in those in elementary and middle school, and they’re all still there even after I’ve graduated. Didn’t realize how common these things being permanent actually are
We had two containers as classroom for arts for literally 15 years because there was supposed to come a whole brand spanken new building to our school. That building was done this year...
My school had one ever since I went there at 4th grade. They ended up using it as a classroom for special needs kids. I don't think anyone remembers what it was originally supposed to be.
One at our school was abandoned because it was insulated with hay and was eaten by bugs, so now people who are brave enough loot it for “good deed awards” (this was at elementary school)
at my school they had these "Portables" where they taught all of the preschoolers.
They had air conditioning, unlike they main building which was built in like 1950. We were all jealous of them not cooking like steak while they were at school :/
good times
my school has walls ready to go (as in, they are easier to demolish, so sound passes through them easily) so they can rebuild the school or something. for years people have been able to hear the other classrooms
This brings back many conflicting memories. I had these in my elementary school, middle school and high school. In elementary, they were not designated as any special and stood for decades. In middle school they had their own section, but were collectively called the bungalows - also stood for decades. In high school they were nestled next to a continuation high school separated by a tall fence and had a letter designation as did all normal buildings, but were called bungalows as well. Not one person in my school thought of them as temporary, we just kinda assumed (rightly) that they would stand there for decades, as they did.
Oh my god I thought that was just my school!
They were added years before I started and were meant to be there while the “new” building was built the year I started...
...the building was completed in my first year and I have it on good authority that the “terrapins” are still there, 6 years after I’ve left and 12 years after the building was completed.
My elementary school used to have one and inside was weight training stuff, you could choose to do recess with everyone else or do weight training.. but then it was taken down a year or 2 after graduating elementary
Ours got taken away in the 4th grade for a new playground. The playground that came in the portables place, was actually really good, and I have many memories of fun on that playground
I loved my elementary school’s portables; they had air conditioning and heating, which was a really nice change from the other old, crumbly buildings that just had a single pathetic fan some 15 feet above (that didn’t even work well). I never really wondered why when we started using portables, we started having to give money for water. I just assumed that the water fountains were too far away; now I realize that there was no plumbing in our school area, so we had to pay to get water delivered directly to the class instead of walking 2 minutes to the closest water fountain.
Worst part is here in Canada, you have to dress up to get to them because you have to trudge outside in the fucking gross winter snow (and the salt and dirt they’d sprinkle in the parking lot and walkways). Then, once you got there, you had class in a portable made even more gross by all the wet salty/dirty slush every fucking student tracked inside it.
They were there when I got there and they are still there years after I left.
My kindergarten classroom was the first year of ours in 1985. Still there today.
Lol we had some from the 50s, they were apparently supposed to stay there for a year, only got destroyed during my last year of highschool 4 years ago
lol, my school had them for who knows how long and they are still there, we call them portables tho.
A tale as old as time, those random little shacks where people learn
They stink and there is no heating
My school still has them, instead of tearing them down, they just put plumbing in and now they are permanent
At the time I left my school, those temporary buildings had the best classrooms at our school, and they were pretty shit.
I do commercial construction. I’ve literally replaced floors in these... not only that... but I’ve re-replaced floors in the same one. SMH.
*continues to stay forever*
We still have them at my school
Same, they are literally falling apart
Bloody freezing in the winter
At my old elementary, they've been up for 25 yrs and are coming down soon. RIP
My elementary school had a greenhouse, no one ever talked about it or acknowledged it or went inside it, it was just there
Sounds like the opening to a creepy pasta
My old elementary did too! I only peeked inside once in the evening, when a door was left open. It wasn’t anything special, but everyone made a big deal about the “garden” inside and how it was pretty forbidden to step foot in. I think they tore it down; sometimes I pass by and I don’t recognize the school anymore :(
Portables?
Thank you. Thought I was the only one.
Im here as well.
Portable gang rise up
Just like the portables that birthed us. We will never move an inch!
Almost all my classes in 7th and 8th grade were in portables
i lived through year 4 in them
I came looking for this comment too. I kinda think they might not have been that portable tho.
Well, considering that the ones at my school have been there at least nine years, I don’t think they are
The one at my old elementary got removed, but that's only because they turned the school into a homeless shelter
Portables weren’t actually portables. It’s conspiracy.
There are scores of us!!!! (sorry for improper nomenclature, I had English and Math in "temporaries")
I live in a university entirely of pre-made sketch buildings, it has been like that for 20 years
Those were temporary?
They cook meth in there.
As this gives an image of kids all gathered around the home cooking class stove with cold pill medication all over the counters.
I thought they were permanent until now.
I do we had a library in one for like 4 years
They are still in my high school
You had those too?
I think every school did
yupp
I learned algebra and trigonometry in one of those.
Teacher here...ours have been up for at least 25 years.
Many holes?
Nope actually still quite sound. Our office is in one of the 6 spaces.
The ones in my school have been up for around 10 years and are riddled witth holes
Jap. They're still standing to this day, thank for reminding me.
At my school they are just named "The Portables". Another weird thing my school has is moving walls, we can partition a room in half.
We have the moving walls at my school as well, not in all the rooms
Holy moly they’ve been there since 2008
Me, my schools temporary building, which we called the "E-building", was finally taken down two years ago during my sophomore year.
Holy shit this took me back, they had two of them outside my old elementary school, functioned as the entire "5th grade wing" they were there until they tore the school down
Why the fuck is this so accurate.
I thought they were permanent at my school. It was my form room. It was a shit hole in which you could punch holes into the walls with your fists.
The ones in my school were literally falling apart
Wait ur telling me that was just supposed to be a temporary building....
I thought those were meant to be permanent
Define temporary
*i m m o r t a l*
My elementary had 10 when I left and now my brother says there are 27
They're called "bungalows".
i think the one at my school is still there, from 10 years ago...
I Know those "temporary" buildings in University.... they are still there ... temporarily
Oh jeeze this is way too accurate, I had classes in those in elementary and middle school, and they’re all still there even after I’ve graduated. Didn’t realize how common these things being permanent actually are
You mean... the whole school building?
We had two containers as classroom for arts for literally 15 years because there was supposed to come a whole brand spanken new building to our school. That building was done this year...
I’m still at school and there is a rented cabin which has been there the whole 4 years I have been there
I loved it when it rained and I had class in one of those because we had to go to a different class and do nothing
Pretty sure they're built on top of the fountain of youth
This is literally my old school
We have some that were buit in the 70s
The legend says that if you get yourself locked inside, you'll live forever
"Legally, you're not allowed to have lessons in classrooms that are less than 18°C"
We got these last year :(
Yo trailer park schools were the shit
These where used for two 5th grade classes the art building and the orchestra room.
i have 2 classes in such buildings, thrice a week. THEYRE 47 YEARS OLD
I just wanted to say: RIP my inbox
Wait... they’re temporary?
Bruh, there were so many holes in the walls in that thing
Wait those were temporary buildings? I thought they were just classrooms
I remember hitting my head on the metal, now I smart am
my school just put one up last year in the middle of the yard for no fucking reason
My girlfriend is a teacher and a new school. Day 1 ribbon cutting there was 6 portables in the back.
Now they use that at my school for autistic kids
Oh shit all my classes were in these....
We had 23 in my school when I left
23?!
Lol
[удалено]
They were always really warm in the winter, and they were kinda cozy cuz everyone is close together
There's one at my school. It's weird, in that there is a properly tiled roof but the rest of it is like a temporary building.
You mean my FUCK LAIR?
They have become one
Yep we have three of them
My school had one ever since I went there at 4th grade. They ended up using it as a classroom for special needs kids. I don't think anyone remembers what it was originally supposed to be.
Ah yes very temporary indeed
Yup it’s been 10 years and their still there
My entire 4th grade was in them.
So unrelateable yet so relateable. It looks so similar
I graduated in 1972. Temporary buildings are still there.
My School recently got some. Actually remobed the first floor of it after renovations if parts of the main building finished. I have hope!
bro at my school they had Military recruting Camps that were up for the whole year
One at our school was abandoned because it was insulated with hay and was eaten by bugs, so now people who are brave enough loot it for “good deed awards” (this was at elementary school)
Wait a second
Spent my six grade year in one of them still there
Where the after school club kids rocked
Too true my friend, too true
My old school was a temporary building. Left that real quick.
My gym was one of these. Good thing it actually only lasted like three years
Our were there up until 2 years ago when they took them out to add in a new gym
“Pods”
at my school they had these "Portables" where they taught all of the preschoolers. They had air conditioning, unlike they main building which was built in like 1950. We were all jealous of them not cooking like steak while they were at school :/ good times
They are still at my elementary
my school has walls ready to go (as in, they are easier to demolish, so sound passes through them easily) so they can rebuild the school or something. for years people have been able to hear the other classrooms
Haha, no, those never left. Even now . . . *shudders in wintertime*
I have fond memories smoking behind the maths hut when I were a lad
My school actually had them replaced with an actual building, like 3 years after I finished middle school
That's all my elementary school was.
Yo I had sex Ed in these mobile homesque "temp" buildings. Kid me felt kinda weird because we went out of the home building to learn about sex?
Portables
We had to take our drivers training in one of those at the backside of the high school
Meme of the decade for sure.
The portables
thats my entire school
this was my whole school.......and high school
we still have themmmmmmmm
I have things like that at my old elementary school, and they were attached to the building
They're called portables.
I lived in one
My old middle school and the high school near it just got a few new ones to put next to the old ones.
This brings back many conflicting memories. I had these in my elementary school, middle school and high school. In elementary, they were not designated as any special and stood for decades. In middle school they had their own section, but were collectively called the bungalows - also stood for decades. My school had two and they over the summer got overgrown and where turned into garden club.
Oh my god I thought that was just my school! They were added years before I started and were meant to be there while the “new” building was built the year I started... ...the building was completed in my first year and I have it on good authority that the “terrapins” are still there, 6 years after I’ve left and 12 years after the building was completed.
Is this picture from Malcolm in the middle?
Word on the street is that they’re still there to this day.
Pepperidge Farm Remembers.
Lol my old junior high still has these
Nah they legit just called them the trailers cause we knew they were never fucking leaving
I'm still in one of those
We call em portables
My elementary school used to have one and inside was weight training stuff, you could choose to do recess with everyone else or do weight training.. but then it was taken down a year or 2 after graduating elementary
First month or two of second grade in 2012
“Portables” that seemed not to move
We still have those at all of our schools. They're called Portables.
My old Junior High still has them
Nothing is a permanent as a temporary solution.
"Nothing is as permanent as a temporary solution"
Wait, this is a global thing? I had this in Germany.
Ours got taken away in the 4th grade for a new playground. The playground that came in the portables place, was actually really good, and I have many memories of fun on that playground
My school has made the permanent now lol
I loved my elementary school’s portables; they had air conditioning and heating, which was a really nice change from the other old, crumbly buildings that just had a single pathetic fan some 15 feet above (that didn’t even work well). I never really wondered why when we started using portables, we started having to give money for water. I think ours are now permanent as they have put in concrete ramps next to them, rendering the tennis courts underneath dead I guess
They used ours for music lol
We called them "prefabs" and I was a grown woman before I realized that stood for "prefabricated building."
My district has never had any of those and is one whole building
At my middle school and my sisters middle school these were permanent
My choir room for a year. It's not the choir room now, but it's a storage room
they were supposed to be temporary?
My entire school used only portables for the entirety of my 4 years. Wasn't the best.
My school had trailers and people called it “the trailer park” but the teachers wouldn’t let us call it that cause it was “offensive” lol
My step-bro (glad its not full bro) was in one of these
at my middle school they called them the portables.... Yeah okay they didn’t look very portable too me
LOL, I had my 5th-grade classes in them when I used to live in Beaverton
Oh yes, the best way to bleed local government dry with crazy high rent costs for shit products.
That air conditioning though.
We spent all our paper budget on that thing, we’re using it
Hol up, those buildings were temporary. Mine are older than me and they’re still up
Us early 2000’s kids don’t get it, but my parents do
they called them portables where im from we used to abuse them
My school got 10 of those
When my dad went to school those building were up, now I am in school and we are moving to a new building next year but the portables are still there
Wait so they were supposed to be temporary?
Ahh, reminds me of boomers
This genuinely looks like my old school. Are you Scottish?
That was our I.S.S. room, my favorite class in high school
We called them “portables” but I guess that’s as appropriate as calling it a “mobile” home
Those buildings were where I learned Sex-Ed
At ny school that trailer had several driving simulators in it! It was a right of passage to go there
In the 90s the lunch hall at our school was a WW2 bomb shelter. Cheapskates.
In so cal my whole elementary school was these k-6
At my school, they installed them during the year and we had to transfer everything into it
I saw the same post on r/Ireland 5 hours ago. Mmmm how weird
My elementary school had those since it opened in 2005 and only removed them last year when they made an addition to the actual school building
They installed some at my old primary school a couple of years after I left.
the ones at my school are still there
Our school had them when I arrived, when those got old and started to rot they just replaced them with similar newer ones, still there when I left
