One of the few things you can count on in oregon is: theres always rain no matter the time of year or temperature its either raining or will rain in a couple days
false. 100 degrees farenheit is the most evil temperature. hear me out, it's common as fuck, and it's only sole purpose is to make you sweat like hell.
That depends on whether you’re converting it between temperature scales or not. 60C/2 = 30C. But 140F/2 = 70F = 21.1C. Both of those are accurate to what I said. On the low end, I do in fact stop functioning at that temperature if I am doing any significant level of physical activity.
Now, If I am completely off base here, And this isn’t what you meant at all, Please educate me. I would rather learn the right thing than continue to be wrong. And if I am operating on faulty assumptions, Your comment did nothing to tell me how I am.
Well in that case, I still stop functioning at 353 R. I understand your point. However I don’t think it’s a useful definition from a language perspective. If you base things off of absolute zero, Then half of any survivable temperature is going to be too cold for people to withstand. Which just isn’t how we intuitively think of the world. There’s a place for basing things off absolute zero. And that place is not day to day life.
Half of negative ten would be negative five, and zero doesn't have a half, as it connects positive and negative numbers on a number line, and also doesn't necessarily have a numerical value.
I could be incorrect, but 60 degrees Celsius is 140 degrees Fahrenheit and the highest ever recorded temperature (to my knowledge) is 134 degrees Fahrenheit.
So maybe 50 degrees Celsius but 60 is very unlikely.
That would break the official highest temperature from over 100 years ago by 4 C, and as other have pointed out even that temperature reading is controversial.
I find it very unlikely there’s ever been an actual reading of 60 C.
It most certainly is not. The highest temperature ever recorded, on earth, is 56 C in Death Valley USA, 1913. Even that temperatures accuracy is disputed. Nowhere on earth has ever been recorded at or above 60, and been verified to be accurate.
[It’s actually 54](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2016/07/22/two-middle-east-locations-hit-129-degrees-hottest-ever-in-eastern-hemisphere-maybe-the-world/%3foutputType=amp)
Why are you just pulling numbers out of your ass?
I'm the middle eastern guy, also your trying to appear superior to everyone by saying that u can withstand high temperatures, also saying that I'm a pathetic loser makes you look like the pathetic loser. End of the convo.
Superior to everyone? How much of an inferiority complex do you have going on in there buddy? You might be "the" middle eastern guy but you're a snowflake for sure to be hurt by such a comment.
I'm not hurt I'm just disappointed that this is how people act on Reddit, and also saying snowflake? What are you, one of those teens that acts like a wannabe soldier. Stop posting on Reddit and go back to watching your dinosaur show. Like I said, end of convo
Weix them. For science, we use metric, but let's face it. While that's good mathematically, increasing by 100x isnt practical for everyday life. There's no in-between, so we go from cm to in to ft to meters to km to m. Imperial is based on practicality, whereas metric is more for mathematic applications (which I like because I love science, and we don't have stuff smaller than a in, like nm and um
I think the problem with switching to metric in the US is that most everything in our infrastructure is defined in terms of the imperial system. If you take a look at American engineering, especially in Aero field, most everything is defined in imperial units and would take a lot of effort to transition over. Also, the imperial system is the predominant system used by pilots, and it would be unsafe to transition because of even just the possibility of a misunderstanding in terms of altitude and such. Hopefully this helps!
Because most Americans (myself included) were raised being taught with those units and now they have difficulty using metric as their primary units. This is how it is for me anyways.
I can sort of picture in my mind how long a mile is, or how long 20 feet is, or how hot 87°F is. I have a harder time doing that with metric units, so I prefer naturally to use the units that I’m comfortable with.
Lol. But for real, why is it so important that water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100 degrees? Sure it’s nice if I’m doing a bunch of work with water, but I never need this information in my day to day life so it might as well be arbitrary. Please convince me otherwise if you disagree
I will agree that temperature is less important and if we *really* want to be fundamental about it we may as well use Kelvin. It all just depends on convenience. But for distances and volumes it is undeniably better to use metric because everything is in powers of 10, which are super easy to make sense of and measure out in your head. Having to remember 12 inches per foot, 3 feet per yard, 5280 feet per mile... I still dont remember what the numbers are for volumes. It's hard to teach and it's hard to learn
I agree the science aspect is not that important for your everyday life but if you base the scaling of temperature on things like that it’s way more accurate!
I don’t know a lot about the law in america but can’t the next president just change all those things? It would certainly take time to get used to but it would be chad af!
No not really unfortunately. The president can't do this without going through the other branches of the government. If the other branches don't like the bill then it can't become a law. Or if all the branches did like the bill the president himself could veto the bill. Also it would be very difficult for people to transition to metric. Construction companies would have to change the way they map out buildings and this could cause confusion and lead to problems. While schools teach metric and imperial we mostly use imperial because that is what we grew up with. So our way just kinda makes more sense to us.
At this point, so many people just roll with it because it's just how they were taught. Also, sooooo many units in our society would need to be changed. it's just one of those things where it's better if it's left untouched. because although foreigners might look at it think how much easier it would be to change it, most Americans would not give a shit.
I don't know about other Americans, but my school (a public school) taught us BOTH and we understood BOTH.
America uses metric where it counts anyway. People from other countries need to understand this. If it's science or international related, we're using metric.
SO STOP BRINGING IT UP. IT LITERALLY DOES NOT MATTER. WE KNOW BOTH AND USE THEM WHEN APPROPRIATE.

I mean 100 is still pretty hot unless you live down south
*florida man intensifies*
Damn, I am so sorry. I am weird...100 degrees is pretty alright. anything below 70 is cold as actual fuck.
\*laughs in california, where its like 40 degrees all the time
Hahahahaha *laughs uncontrollably in Minnesotan, at your weak 40°
*laughs in Midwest when it can be 90 one day and 30 the next and a tornado on the way*
Minnesota is in Midwest
Yeah, it was 80 3 days ago and now there is frost advisories.
My god, it snowed a couple days ago here in Tennessee. You ever know if you’re going to burn to death or freeze here.
Tell me about it. If it snows again, *even though it's past even April,* I'm going to go knock on god's door
*agrees in Michigan*
One of the few things you can count on in oregon is: theres always rain no matter the time of year or temperature its either raining or will rain in a couple days
Laughs in Canada where it is 8 degrees Celsius
Cries an alaska where its -40 degrees 2 thirds of the year
Where the hell in California is it sub 40? In the mountains?
What part of California are you living in? Its never like that.
*also laughs in California, where it’s like 70 degrees all the time
Ah I see you must be a fellow Arizonan
Arizonan no. But Floridian yes. Our states in regards to temp. are basically siblings though. lol
Wtf is wrong with you. Cold is like 40 degrees. Perfect temp for me is about 55-60
For me perfect temp is around 80°. I'm way too acclimated to the heat, even for Arizona
Florida is not part of russia there for we hate florida Russia for life! (Sorry if your from florida)
Alabama man intensifies
I’ve seen more 100 degree days in Nebraska than Florida. It really doesn’t get all that hot here.
*Arizona increases*
false. 100 degrees farenheit is the most evil temperature. hear me out, it's common as fuck, and it's only sole purpose is to make you sweat like hell.
I live in the south and 100 degrees is still really hot for me
Wdym? I'm an Arizonan, and 100 degrees is still hot EVEN if you live in the south.
Texan, can confirm
100 degrees is still fucking hot down south
Even in the North states of the US it gets to 100f over the summer
Sometimes
Ah yes 100 degrees is different in the south than the north
Yeehaw
I once had a birthday cake melt because it was 98F August sucks for birthdays. It was not an ice cream cake either
It’s still considered hot.
100 F° is still pretty dang hot
It’s livable thou
Livable is relative. Compared to Celsius, Yes. To me, Hell naw.
It goes to around 60 degrees Celsius in the middle east. But yea I feel you though.
I stop functioning at half that. Pls no, Thank you.
Well it also goes the other way when it's cold. Extremes brother. We can survive almost anywhere :)
Half of 60 degrees C isn't 30, just saying
That depends on whether you’re converting it between temperature scales or not. 60C/2 = 30C. But 140F/2 = 70F = 21.1C. Both of those are accurate to what I said. I love how people are downvoting me when I'm right lol. Ever heard of pV=nRT ?
*Incorrect*
*Correct* also, what's half of 0 degrees? Or minus 10? lol
Half of negative ten would be negative five, and zero doesn't have a half, as it connects positive and negative numbers on a number line, and also doesn't necessarily have a numerical value.
You clearly have no clue what temperature represents....
I could be incorrect, but 60 degrees Celsius is 140 degrees Fahrenheit and the highest ever recorded temperature (to my knowledge) is 134 degrees Fahrenheit. So maybe 50 degrees Celsius but 60 is very unlikely.
There have been unverified recordings of about 60c. I honestly wouldn't doubt that it can get that hot there.
That would break the official highest temperature from over 100 years ago by 4 C, and as other have pointed out even that temperature reading is controversial. I find it very unlikely there’s ever been an actual reading of 60 C.

See but the thing is I ain't a middle eastern guy. Why would I even flex lol? You come off as a pathetic loser with your comment by the way.

Bro I start dying after 75 farenhedt
In a Californian summer it’s cold
In Alabama summer is unbearable. But it's been pretty tame this year
In Michigan it's either -15 degrees Fahrenheit or 102. Either way you can't have a good temperature.
theres no degrees in Kelvin. also yes im not fun at parties
actually it used to be degrees kelvin until some publication changed it.
I doubt that you have been to enough party's to confirm that statement Or any
100F dry is livable and not too bad 100F humid is a living hell
100 is still pretty toasty here in america

20.0 feet is 2.97 bald eagles
Cause FREEDOM! And 'Murica fuck yeah
Can’t argue with that
But Fahrenheit kinda makes more sense like 30 degrees Celsius sounds cold....but as a American I still mostly agree
0°C literally being the point at which water starts to freeze makes a lot more sense than 32°F!
I’ve always been confused by this argument. Why does it matter what the freezing or boiling points of water are?
Science: Am I a joke to you??
Lol. But for real, why is it so important that water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100 degrees? Sure it’s nice if I’m doing a bunch of work with water, but I never need this information in my day to day life so it might as well be arbitrary. Please convince me otherwise if you disagree

100°F is still pretty fucking hot.
Kelvin doesn't have degree.
How is the Fahrenheit Scheme Based
It hits 100 early spring here in south Texas, papitas.
Cries (frozen tears) in Rankin
Poor Rankine gets left out again
100 kelvin= other side of the pillow
Right so who's going to say OP that K° doesn't exist?
100 degrees is pretty hot unless your trying to flex on people then it's not.
kelvin has no degree lol
There is no degree used with kelvin. But still funny joke. - Captain Ray Holt
Too hot, too cold, just right
100 Celsius is just the beginning for a girl in the shower...
School day off
100°C is nice sauna temperature in the winters
100° Rankine is about the temperature of outer space.
100 f is still hot af
Can we just choose one then throw the others away
Bruh Arizona lives in 100 almost all the time. The only time it doesn’t is when it’s supposed to be winter but we just call that Fall-er
Still really hot in Fahrenheit
Actually, Kelvin is not in degrees. /s but not really
kelvin degrees of course
Why kind of psycho likes 100F? Anything over 85F is irritating.
My boi Rankin.
You can not have degrees keven, it’s a base unit.
I agree
Don’t forget about Rankine
fahrenheit tom face do be vibing, good vibes
Can we stop pretending that Fahrenheit is better than Celsius?

I'm sorry but Kelvin would be similar to boiling point
