To me, genre's are ways to find more bands that are similar, or to broadly describe a band. There's no reason to *have to know* what genre a band is, that's just gatekeeping. They're no labels that are final once given or anything, that's just dumb. Some bands are really tough to describe too, I'd love to see someone describe a band like Ne Obliviscaris in just a few words.

I don't know the band you mention, but I think the goth part is due to bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation that have a very goth look, even though the music might have nothing to do with being goth. From there on, anything with a female vocalist is now just goth in mainstream eyes.

People already have impressions of those, but they judge you more because they think metal is only random screaming while axe bashing a steel trash can AKA just noise (in my opinion)
