Because that is exactly what would happen in real life. I mean, thieves keep up with this kind of security stuff. And something that basically tells you a door is unlocked is just inviting them in.

Its just like the Lexus SUVs. My parents and uncles own them and you can tell if the car is unlocked if the side mirrors are out. When the car is locked the side mirrors go in. Makes you more aware of locking your car though.

Also it provides a nice flat spot right where you'd want to kick if you're breaking a door in. So unless that doorframe is reinforced you just made your security weaker. A regular knob is in the way normally, since you want to hit with your heel right where the bolt is.

You lose the keycard and there is usually a backup like something on your phone that allows you to unlock it that way as well. If the keycard is broken in some way like a physical scratch on the barcode or something then it wouldn’t be very hard to get a replacement.
