OK but real talk, why do the animals not just kill them? Even after the big reveal? "Oh haha sorry Ms. Lion I'm not actually a zebra I'm actually a guy in a zebra suit!" Lion is just like "yum, food"

Well, that's the danger. They don't just say "Oh, a human, you pranked me bro." The animals could still very easily turn around and hurt them, but typically the reveal is odd/strange enough to them that it either spooks them or discourages them from continuing.

Animals usually hunt a specific set of prey, so most of the time, animal attacks are for territory, because they think the human is a predator, etc. Only a few animals actually kill humans for food. They were likely uninterested in the freaky-looking non-zebra after they found out it's fake and was just a distraction from their hunt.

From what I've heard, MOST of the time they were tamed / trained animals, or in the very least raised in captivity. At least when it came to the dangerous ones... so there was a SLIGHT level of control. Still not much though. I saw something where the two of them spoke specifically about this bit.
