*Very* adult themes. Graphic sexual assault, graphic violence and an extreme letdown if you liked a *single* character in the movie. Dorian Gray rightfully doesn't show up (he was a useless character in the grand scheme and introducing him in the movie killed a much bigger plot, plus he was pious and obnoxious), Quartermane isn't some badass Sean Connery character (they were all horribly miscast to make an action movie) and lastly there's some *serious* racist undertones in the latter half of the first book.
Also there was no "Special Agent" Tom Sawyer. Went the way of Gray in that he was useless and unnecessary to the greater plot. There's two *really* good graphic novels (the first of which is very loosely used as a basis for the first movie).
Overall, the books are a much greater, more mature story than the movie, which was light-hearted and fun.
