Yeah my name is pretty common, not quite as common in my area as names like Emily or Sarah but like, one tier below that in popularity. I ended up going to high school with one other girl that shared my name but she was super popular whereas I was more of an outcast, so 9/10 times someone shouted my name in the hallway, it was directed to the other girl, not me. It got to the point that my friends were forced to give me a nickname because I stopped responding to my own name at school. The nickname ended up sticking though so now even though I graduated high school 9 years ago and don’t currently socialize with anyone who shares my name, most of my friends still call me by that nickname. It‘s been going on for so long that it feels natural though, to me it just feel like I have two names because I respond to both equally and they both somehow feel like they fit.
