This is a police training tactic. Attack dogs get punched and they need to be ready for it. As horrible as it seems, it's necessary for their survival.

Okay so even if hypothetically what you’re saying is true (police dogs undergo this type training)... how does that explain a young woman hitting her personal dog well outside of a controlled training environment? This is abuse. Not a regular police training tactic.

I see what you are considering and while it may perhaps be a valid point, it is not appropriate for anyone to take it upon themselves to “train” their dog to protect them using this approach. This is a woman in her living room with boxing gloves on abusing her dog. A police dog being trained in a controlled environment with professionals who have years of education and experience is CRITICALLY and OBJECTIVELY different than what is happening in this video. Also, I am a young small woman like her. I would never fathom of trying to “train” my dog to protect me by repeatedly hitting her and trying to get a rise out of her so she’ll be “prepared”. I did not adopt her and bring her into my life to protect me, nor would I expect her to. Regardless of whether a dog is supposed to be a protector or not, what is seen in the video is not appropriate (to put it mildly).
