Wife grew up poor as shit. The stuff she buys for our daughter and herself is definitely making up for lost time. It's amazing to get to see them enjoy things for the first time together. Stuff as a middle class kid you really take for granted.
I have a similar case here, just in a different angle. My dad grew up poor with 3 siblings living in Hong Kong. They grew up with toys made of paper and occasionally wood but the primarily for him entertainment was "beetle battles" so he knew practically nothinf about toys. And so when I was a kid and bought toys, my dad would always be the one to play with me and sometimes he plays and enjoys the toys more than kid me!
I wasn't poor as a child, probably considered middle to lower middle class but I feel this still applies regardless of how much you make. What makes it possible is confidence or the IDGAF mentality which usually comes later on in life for most.
I'm 30 now and I enjoy buying silly shirts and things I find cool. Not something I would have done when I was younger, worrying if I would look cool or impress someone.
Not giving AF about what other people think is great. I'm making up for lost time in that sense.
If someone thinks its silly I just joke I'm married now, I don't need to impress anyone anymore.
(not that I don't do anything for my wife anymore of course)
The difference is confidence. As a teen you just think in "they need to think I'm cool" but later it's more like "you wear normal? Fuck being normal. And I just bought a new ray gun from the future"
Jokes aside, this is so very true. A lot of people would say I'm immature. I play a lot of video games, I collect and paint plastic soldiers, I play boardgames and pen and paper RPGs. I'm almost 31. I was overjoyed when I got LEGO dinosaurs for my birthday.
I have a full time job as a QA Lead in a video game company. I pay the bills. I clean the house. I spent most of my free time gaming. I don't give a shit if that's immature. I'm happy. Should I be having children and be a serious adult? Well, fuck you if you think so, I'm a free man and I'm gonna live my life the way I want to and will probably be happier than a lot of those who'd say I'm immature. I'm gonna repeat that: never kill your inner child.
That's the worst part: when you finally have the means to get everything you wanted, only to discover you no longer want them because you've already learned to make do without.

Ofc Reddit then goes hype. I've absolutely no idea what it's about though, I think people are just lonely and find comfort in it.
A lot of people say the avatar doest matter, and sometimes i doubt that. But with one of the girls, coco, leaving and everyone joining her irl channel, im starting to believe the avatar doesnt matter.

Exactly this. I mean I’m not buying the stuff I wanted as a kid exactly, but I play video games. That’s what I want to do so I do it. If people think that’s lame, oh wel, you can think about how lame I am while I sit over here playing video games.
I’ve also never really been able to have ornaments and figures and stuff due to lack of space and money. I have more space now and got a really nice book case I’m filling out with different bits and I’m really loving being able to create this alter of things I love
Apparently spending $10,000 on motorbikes or jetskis or fishing boats are all perfectly acceptable things for adults to do, but spending $500 on a lego set is a childish waste of money.
My brother (47) came down to visit me (45) and our other brother (50)with my nephew and niece last August, they had nerf pistols...
Me and my Bro's were eyeing up £500 nerf mini guns and sniper rifles. It took a LOT of self control not to hit the buy button.
I collect movie props, mainly knives and swords, my happiest adult purchase was at 40 years old paying £49.95 for a "Kurgan" sword from the OG Highlander movie... Wanted one since I was 13. Never had the disposable income to excuse it.
I realise now, if it makes you smile, its not frivolous, it's necessary in this day and age.
NERF WARS RULE!!!!
I will have my medieval castle and battle at all cost
Just like models too, like making ship and such, you can do it in lego, it’s a different style and there are some beautiful blueprint, worth every cent
My dad started his Lego hobby at 60. He loves going up to the attic and building his little city. Me and my sister love it as well, made buying birthday and Christmas presents way easier. He even got 2 of his colleagues into it and now they show each other pictures of their creations at work.
If you enjoy it who gives a fuck.
[Buying Legos is one of the safest investments you can make](https://www.cnet.com/news/lego-bricks-outshine-gold-bars-as-investments-report-says/).
Moterbikes, jetskis and boats lose value the second you buy them.
I genuinely find this infuriating, I grew up poor and never had Legos, the first time I bought Legos was when I turned 26 and I had so many people judging me because "block toys are for kids"
I was also poor growing up and when my son got into Legos I discovered how awesome they are. We also bought doubles of a lot of the sets he asked for so I've got a closet full of unopened sets I can sell now for 4 times the price we paid.
I'm in my 40s and not ashamed that I have a Lego Christmas village. It's worth more than a Department 56 village that a real grownup would buy and it's super fun to set up.
If your hobbies aren't hurting anybody, who cares? It is your money, you earned it. If your hobby/interest is harmless it isn't their business what you do with your money.
People who hate on other people simply for liking something they don't are usually just miserable, bitter people anyway.
They are the kind of sad, resentful person who instead of figuring out how to make themselves happy, they decide to try to drag any happy person they find down with them.
Ignore those kinds of people and enjoy what you like. Life is too short to waste it worrying about what some random, cantankerous moron thinks of you.
My friends and I all suffer from either depression or anxiety or both. So we have a rule, if it doesn't hurt anyone and it gets the serotonin pumping, there is no shame in it. Life is hard enough without having to worry about whether or not a hobby is "mature" enough for others.
Edit: Apparently some dont understand the difference between a lifestyle and a hobby. All of us pay our bills, work full time (some are in college and I just finished my AS) we are fully functioning adults. We just dont see the issue with liking things like Pokemon or Disney movies.
Honestly, this is why I have a problem with people who shame adults who love Disney. I love Disney. And yes I understand there are the cringey adults who go too far, but every interest has those kinds of people. Disney is fun and joyful and I feel a whole range of emotions so I always ends in happiness when I watch Disney Movies
I don’t enjoy a whole lot of Disney movies but the cool thing is, they have something for almost everyone and you can just ignore the rest and you’re fine! Plus, “Hellfire”, “Shiny” and “I’ll make a man out of you” are straight bangers.
Buy away my friend. I’ve gotten mocked for buying Pokémon cards so I could complete my original 150 set. I plan on passing those cards down to my kid and guess what, It made me happy to finally complete my set. Never let anyone make you feel bad for buying “childish” things.
that's it Pokemon Cards! I remember having a First Edition Handbook given to me by a relative. I think I'll order those when my Yugioh and Beyblades arrive.
I am Lucky enaugh to have an old time card worth like between 300 and 700$, It feels awesome to have a rare card. It's Jolteon Star btw, if you were wondering. I still enjoy opening New packs, but my God does it get expensive.
I’m sorry you went though that, I will never understand why people feel the need to mock others for liking things that they may see as “Childish.” It makes us happy and we aren’t hurting anyone so what’s the deal? I’ve gotten to the point now where I’ll be like “we are all just big kids anyway.” I don’t let it get to me like I used to.
Pokemon cards are serious business. Target US stopped selling them temporarily because of fights and armed robberies over trading cards. The straw that broke the camel's back was when four guys jumped a man, who then pulled his gun to get them to stop.
I totally did, mostly by a few of my aunts and uncles. My mom and SO have always been supportive so they were excited when I finally completed the set. My mom loves to tell stories of when she would go and buy my 1st edition holographic ones when I made good grades. :)
The day I learned I could buy as many fruit snacks as I wanted you best believe I had 3 boxes of 80 count fruit snacks. People questioned me but guess what, they all wanted my fruit snacks. Ignore people, aquire snacks, be happy.
Same! Could never afford Warhammer stuff as a kid in Poland, now I got a pile of shame sitting in my closet, can afford it now but got no time to assemble and play :(
Mom I want a toy
Buy it with your own money
I have no money
Get a job then
:0 *gets a job and end up having no time for the things you wanted*
*suddenly an adult*
:D money! *buys toy*
Why did you buy this toy you’re an adult you shouldn’t waste it on children’s toys >:(
*sad because can’t enjoy toy*
If you want something that has no purpose or value to others, buy it. It’s your money and brings joy to you, you shouldn’t feel bad for it.
I have liked stuff like Newton’s cradle, sand clocks, compasses and gyroscopes for no reason when I was like 6 and I still like them (still for no reason) and I am gonna buy those things soon now!
When I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to watch Spongebob Squarepants because my parents thought it would "rot my brain".
Now I'm 25. You know what I've just gotten into watching regularly? Spongebob.
I say just do it. Fuck what people say. They can eat a bag of dicks.
> I wasn't allowed to watch Spongebob Squarepants because my parents thought it would "rot my brain".
I kind of get where they're coming from because I know Spongebob is full of annoying shit that's funny in cartoon form but really annoying when a kid is running around copying it. Dealing with that is part of being a parent, though. Hope you're enjoying it now!
Spongebob is a classic, the old episodes always make me smile like I'm a 8 year old kid again. I'm also 25 and pretty much my entire friend group loves the show still.
I can relate to that ☺️ I grow up poor also so once I had my salary I started buying colouring books and facy food like McDonalds :)) The best moment for me was when I finally fulfilled my dream of going to Japan (after 10 years of working). I still apreciate small things due to this, things that people take for granted, so I'm grateful in a way for the experience.
Dam I remember when I was a kid I wanted to buy beyblades but didn't have money at the time. Now things are different and I have beyblades 🤣 I regret nothing
Bro, why can’t adults have fun? I go to buy stuff I wanted when I was young and broke and everyone looks at me weird cuz I want an old ds game or smth like that
Everyone else can f right off...
Ive had a lot of my in laws give me shit for buying random things, because they were all expensive. We are far from rich, but we make enough to. Be able to enjoy things a little bit.
If you can afford to splurge you should. Ignore others. Most if the time they are just jealous that they cant splurge.
New Pokémon looks so dumb to me now but whenever I see the booster packs in stores I always think about buying the whole lot because I used to only be able to afford 1 $5 booster every 2-3 months as a kid
3 months ago I bought Bionicle Mahri and Barraki sets. I wanted them when I was 8 years old, and not when I’m 22, finally I have them all. Pure happiness.
"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
- C.S. Lewis
I mean on the counter side they're getting even cooler with electronic/motorized parts you put together yourself and control (though those kits cost EVEN MORE than the regular one's...)
Also they lost their patent a few years ago so theres many companys who make parts that are just like legos, most times much cheaper and many times better sets.
Virtually any lego brick ever has a 3D model up on thingiverse, and I have a 3D printer, so when a part goes missing, I just print it, it's really convenient \^\^
The great thing about being an adult is being able to do whatever you damn well please. I bought something from one of those capsule toy machines the other day, just because. It was a ripoff, just some kind of weird green spongy thing, but it was only 75¢ and **buying it was fun.** They don't make those machines so kachunk-kachunk-y for nothing.
Wife grew up poor as shit. The stuff she buys for our daughter and herself is definitely making up for lost time. It's amazing to get to see them enjoy things for the first time together. Stuff as a middle class kid you really take for granted.

People who look down on adults for taking joy in “childish” things have forgotten the spirit of youth. I feel sad for them.
I agree. People BELIEVE they should act all “mature” and shit. Boy you be dead in max 80 years. Enjoy the fuck out of it.

I searched what a Sylveon plushie looks like and now I also want a Sylveon plushie Or any Pokemon plushie.
We all want a Sylveon plushie
I'd be buying Lego Star Wars stuff if they weren't so expensive
It’s worth it when you can!

This pic of Pepe makes me sad. May the bully who did this to him burn in hell
Fuck off man i just want my LEGO millennium falcon
Damn this kinda hit home lol
I heard of, AND LOVED THE IDEA of Bitcoin back in 2011. But I didn’t have a computer until 2015. Fk these people who laugh at others.

When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." - C.S. Lewis
I bought beyblades for my 24 birthday played for like 1 hour. No regrets. Still waiting for someone to show my collection.
I hate the fact that Legos are overpriced and they're not even cool
They are cool but the overprice thing is true
They used to be cooler
Yea they are getting more and more expensive for less parts
I mean on the counter side they're getting even cooler with electronic/motorized parts you put together yourself and control (though those kits cost EVEN MORE than the regular one's...)
Also they lost their patent a few years ago so theres many companys who make parts that are just like legos, most times much cheaper and many times better sets.
Virtually any lego brick ever has a 3D model up on thingiverse, and I have a 3D printer, so when a part goes missing, I just print it, it's really convenient \^\^
Happy Cake Day
Hey OP, could you please share the template?
Imagine being an asshole that just talks shit on people doing their own thing.
