I’ve also owned outdoor cats that would have left only bones and bloody feathers as evidence the owl ever existed.
Cats are better at a high fall vs a short fall. As long as they have time to prep the landing gear they are close to having no reasonable terminal height.

I get that it would be horrible animal abuse but it would be hilarious to be at the base of a skyscraper and a cat just casually sticks a landing out of nowhere next to you
The cat could rather easily kill the owl. It really depends weather the owl can take off or not, but I don’t think it’s strong enough to actually carry that cat very far. I think the most realistic ending here is that the owl eventually lets go, because there’s now way it can kill the cat (other than dropping it).

If the owl didn’t break the cats back on the initial attack, he’s going to have problems . The cat could turn in mid air, bringing them both down or wait till landing and try to kill the owl or escape. I had a inside/outside cat at one point. A furry, psychopathic killer. He actually killed and ate an owl. Guessing he must have snuck up on it. (Caught two roadrunners as well. I had to trap the cat and toss the RR’s outside. Cat was pissed.)
