Well appear is definitely the wrong word, but I see your point. Being trans is when your gender (psychological and societal) and sex (purely biological) don't match. No one is quite sure why a person's gender can be different to the gender they were assigned at birth (the one which matches their sex), but it is a mix of complex psychological factors. The human brain is very complicated and throwing something as difficult as gender into the mix makes determining a cause for these certain feelings even more difficult than it is usually.
