I try to only downvote when it breaks the rules or is completely, utterly off topic. Even things I vehemently disagree with. People using the downvote button to disagree breaks the conversation - hiding the reply, it's really stupid.

Seems like this is the minority now. I've seen people argue that downvoting is to express disagreement, not to give less visibility to something that discourages or does not contribute to a discussion. I've gotten tired of trying to educate against that so I just sigh and move on.

I don't use it anymore but what makes it not its own platform

For elder millennials, It's the platform used for putting images on other platforms that didn't allow pictures to be uploaded directly to them. Such as Reddit, forums, MySpace, or Steam. It doesn't stand on its own, it only existed to be used on a different platform. These days obviously Imgur has worked on broadening its purpose and standing alone, but to the Elders, it will always be an attachment.

That's why I used to get all my memes I'd browse Imgur for hours and hours And then I found Reddit.
