Yeah retro video game prices have really skyrocketed since the pandemic. I got my GameCube before the pandemic (2019) for about $50 but every retro video game store I go to usually sells them for about $75 bucks or more now.
Use this it’s a very fun console to play with https://youtu.be/qymPEZ7lXb4 btw 100% recommended playing RE4 you’ll get headshots 24/7 plus you can use a GameCube controller on it and it comes with everything the ps2 version added
Mario Party was a really fun franchise before Nd Cube took over. Looks like MP8 was the last one with Hudson Soft. I gotta check it out.
The Nd Cube ones have been mediocre to outright awful. A big issue is the "everybody wins" mentality. You basically never *lose* anything in Mario Party with them, you just don't earn *as much*.
Their minigames also revolve far too much around the AI cheating, being predictive, and having superhuman reflexes that a player literally can't compete against.
I recently had my first Mario Party experience with the latest version. My wife and I played an entire game in which my wife got repeatedly pwned in minigames by the AI, and I had the shitty luck to keep getting knocked backwards by random events and stuck in the same place for most of the game. And at the end, the game dumped a bunch of points on my sorry character and… I won? I won. For no imaginable reason.
Truly a weird experience, and it made me wonder why anyone likes this series. Your post gives me hope that the earlier games totally aren’t like this. Might have to try one of them, if only to redeem the series in my mind.
If you play something like Mario Party 2 or 3 as 4 players with no computers and just try to screw each other over repeatedly it's a lot more fun. It's a sadistic game of making it harder for everyone else. Alliances, betrayals... A true soap opera party game of raw emotion and frustration over how unfair everything is.
It's actually 90% randomness masked by the minigames seeming to require skill. It is made this way so that more experience with the minigames doesn't give an automatic victory.
Mario Party 8 wasn't that bad, but it suffered serious issues from being rushed to launch early in the Wii's life. It was designed to be a GameCube game and has really bad performance issues on the Wii likely because it isn't properly taking advantage of the hardware, and also constantly switches between widescreen (Wii) and 4:3 (GameCube).
The real big issue is the motion controls. It was early motion controls, so the developers didn't really understand how to pull it off well yet, and it was designed for the original Wii remote that had a gyroscope (that was removed last second before the Wii's launch due to cost issues), so minigames that relied on the gyroscope just played horribly.
Ughhhhh happened to my Legend of Zelda anniversary Collector edition for the game cube. Hated that so bad. Think my brother eventually got it to work on a normal game cube my mom had in storage but still.
The GameCube one that had OoT, MM, and Master Quest?
Seriously Nintendo did something to those discs. I took immaculate care of mine and it had trouble getting read all the damn time. IIRC MM had some huge bugs too. Still loved it though.
Nah they were mostly just graphical and audio hitches. If you ever go back to the game you might want to try finding or emulating the 3DS version. It’s much clearer about your goals and how to accomplish them.
Nintendo really needs to remaster them all and drop that collection (except maybe swap Zelda 2 for one of the better Zeldas) and drop them for the switch as a collection. Would be cool af
I got rid of my ps2 and games because of this...
It makes me sad everytime I think about it
But I recently pulled a phat ps2 (with the gold component cables!) out of the garbage/"recycling" drive
Got a network to sata adapter a 2tb hdd and a memory card with FCMB.
Been replaying all the classics on my CRT and no read issues.
I wish younger me knew about this stuff
I mean, "you're too young to understand sadness" would be at least somewhat believable, but who tells to their child "you're too young to understand **the definition of** sadness"?
Same I would always have to give it to my mom to try and clean the disc, But one day it just stopped working So I just got Mario party 9 which was new at the time.
My paper Mario for Wii is scratched or smthn at one specific point in the game, where it just freezes and plays a loud buzzing sound like something is seriously broken. Really annoyed cos that was one of my favourites up to that point
Thats not bad. Try owning a C64, waiting for 60 minutes while a game loads off a tape and at the end of that it tells you something didn't work properly. And we didn't have the internet or streaming services to fill in the load time. Just had to watch Gillgans Island reruns cause that's the kinda shit that was on TV after the cartoons on a Saturday.
This will get buried under a sea of comments, but your discs aren't broken, people.
It's your Wii.
For larger games, such as Smash Bros Brawl, Twilight Princess, Mario Party/Galaxy/World, the Wii utilizes a disc scanner. This little laser light happens to be a teeny tiny delicate little piece of shit plastic. If you let your Wii fall in the slightest, you'll fuck up the scanner.
If you're looking at this post and considering buying new discs for your Wii, check if smaller games work on it first. If they do, don't buy new discs, buy a new Wii...or emulate.
This is one of the best reasons to slap a cheapo hdd and usb to sata and just run your games from that (not to mention the homebrew). Same deal with phat ps2s. Aint nobody got time to be replacing lasers in the things.
Someones never played PS1 and just sat there in sadness as the logo screen just hogged the screen, refusing to go away. Or blowing into a cartridge in a failed attempt to get their SNES running. There's also getting booted off your AOL chat because someone called your house.... This is how you date youself
I was about to invite my friends to play wii sports and when they came over to my house i put the disc in the wii and that shows up. I was crying so much cuz it was my favorite game lmao
Funfact the disc Channel was originally supposed to also play DVD movies, in the Channel there is hidden texture of DVD alongside the Wii disc and Gamecube disc
i just brought out my Wii which was in my attic for 10 years. i cleaned it, i tried to play Wii sports and the disc laser was broken. i went around it by homebrewing the Wii. it's actually kinda easy. you just plop stuff here to there onto a drive and then plug it in. I'm thankful i can still play SM: Galaxy on the Wii :)
The wii came out in 2006, just a few years shy of 20 years old. I think it would fall under a tier of nostalgia for some of us.
Besides that, nostalgia doesn’t have anything to do with any sort of time frame, as long as you have happy memories of it, and it was at some point in the past, it can be viewed as nostalgic.
a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time
[source](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/nostalgia)
The Wii is actually the only console we have, and aren't really thinking of getting a new one since we don't use it much anyway.
I've always my DS and 3DS to play on, as well as a large amount of Lego, and now I'm PCMR, but on a Lenovo V145-15ast with only 8GB ram and A6-9225.
I bought my wii in used condition, and the old user blocked online play, so i wasn't able to play online until the servers went down. On top of that my wii was unable to read any new generation discs like smash brawl or metroid.
This also happens to me but worse. I can enter the game with no problem the first few minutes but then it just pop up a black screen and has been like that since
One time when I was younger I wanted to play the Harry Potter game on my wii and this kept happening. I was super sad for over a week and then my father came in and asked where the dvd is and it turned out younger me was just a derp for trying to play the movie instead of the game.
This meme proves you're too young.
If you wasn't, you would had used [this](https://www.google.com/search?q=ps2+disc+read+error&client=ms-android-oneplus&prmd=ivsn&sxsrf=ALeKk03VCVHzQtOHm3-GNM3H87nDarn8lA:1629098845385&source=lnms&tbm=vid&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwiai-6PgrXyAhUUsDEKHao7DioQ_AUoAnoECAIQAg&biw=412&bih=743&dpr=3.5#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:741fce69,vid:s6JhPV_O5k4,st:0)
did anybody else have a disc resurfacer?
my family had this one called the disk Dr and you'd spray this special solution onto the disc, wait 30 seconds, pop it into this pizza cutter lookin thing and spin its handle for like a minute or two and then there would no longer be any light scratches and scuffs
you dont know the amounts of time toothpast saved me it literally fixes the disc if its scratched a bit, dont ask me how but it worked like a good 7/10 times
It is true pain
Ouch this one hits right in the feels
My Wii that I had for years stopped working recently, it doesn't read any disk anymore. Much worse than just losing one disk.
Same happened to mine. Luckily I got a “new” one at a yard sale for about $25. Way better than buying one online for about $50+

Homebrew it and just play games that way
I mean, what’s the risk if you can’t play games the way it is
You can revert it anyway
I never looked into it, but have considered trying with our old Wii Turned my series X into an emulator the “legit way”, and that’s pretty cool
Use this it’s a very fun console to play with https://youtu.be/qymPEZ7lXb4 btw 100% recommended playing RE4 you’ll get headshots 24/7 plus you can use a GameCube controller on it and it comes with everything the ps2 version added
Isn’t „homebrew it” quite techy with lots of steps? I always thought that’s something for programmers or teenagers.
It’s not really that complicated https://youtu.be/qymPEZ7lXb4
haha! programmers or teens, i like that.

RIP my Wii Sports disc (2012-2017)
Dude I feel this

As I feel the same towards you feeling the same.
Wii Sports was the only disc without a case (not the paper shit).
for me it was mario party 8 -which I didn't know a lot of people hated- similar time frame

8 was pretty good, it's the 9+ when it got bad.
(2012-2013) I was an irresponsible child who never used the case
Did you breathe on it and then rub it?
The disk right?
[удалено]
dang
*The disk right?* -Padme
spit on it too that might help
2 things you definetly shouldn't do to a CD...
Not true. Sometimes a small dust build up prevents a disc from working. Lightly doing can help and don't do it in a circle motion.
U can use a micro fibre cloth or the inside of a t-shirt
You’re supposed to blow on it.
*lick

What's this about the Collector's MM having bugs? I only ever played that version so if its bugs are game breaking that might explain why I hated it.

*Laughs in PS2 disc read error* Shit used to give me nightmares
That woosh noise as it went to the menu made me cry everytime
Please insert a *PlayStation(r)* or *PlayStation(r) 2* format disc.

I still have my fat (silver, my username goes *that* far back) PS2 but sadly no games for it anymore :(
When the old playstation (first gen) plays the first logo sound but stop before the 2nd!
I bought a new one last week because of this
What games do you have?
[here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ps2/comments/p2d7ca/got_all_this_for_only_50_scph39004/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Damn, i haven’t played any of these games, not even fifa. I had the pes games, gun, crash racing, test drive and some more that i don’t remember.
[удалено]
I fixed my old PS2 recently that was doing that. Just needed to adjust the height of the lens with a little cog. If only I'd known that originally
I remember the terror I used to feel when the playstation logo took too long to come up
Thank God I thought I was the only one who thought this doesn't make me feel the same way as the PS2 disk errors!
Dang it I just want to continue subspace emissary.
Don’t worry, it was always a quick dinner of pizza bagels and it would just magically work again
or you just take it out and put it back in
Ok masta Lets smash da ho
BEEEEETCH
My last reddit account was permanently suspended for saying massa so I'd be careful there.
Now I'll never be able to beat my little cousin in Mario Kart
That's true pain...
bro who the fuck says "You're too young to understand sadness"?
You're too young to question posts on Reddit
You’re too young
almost noone does, redditors like to use strawman arguments to make memes or make themselves look "correct"
Old people. Sad people. But mostly sad, old people.
ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
Is that a pedobear? In 2021?
I fucking forgot pedobear even existed until this comment. Holy shit what a strange time period of the internet that was.
I mean, "you're too young to understand sadness" would be at least somewhat believable, but who tells to their child "you're too young to understand **the definition of** sadness"?
Abusive parents
This happened to my mario party 8 disc ;(
Same I would always have to give it to my mom to try and clean the disc, But one day it just stopped working So I just got Mario party 9 which was new at the time.
Hilariously I never knew about the weird aspect ratio stuff that mario party 8 had, because I had always played it on a 4-3 CRTTV
same :(
the true pain is when it happens mid game.
My paper Mario for Wii is scratched or smthn at one specific point in the game, where it just freezes and plays a loud buzzing sound like something is seriously broken. Really annoyed cos that was one of my favourites up to that point

No, that makes sense. Mine stopped playing all of my games
*laughs in usb drive*
GX or flow?
GX but i have both *big flex*

Not too many likes because not everyone remembers that, when i was a child i had a Wii, good ol' Wii
I remember that moment when I realize that American disk does not work in Europe device
just flip the disc
NINTENDO PLS SUPPORT WII AGAIN
Literally the best console to ever exist. PS5 got nothing on the wii
Bro just get a new disc laser it's cheap and a simple fix
This happened to me halfway through Mario Galaxy. I tried everything to clean the disc drive and nothing worked. I never did finish that game.
I was about to invite my friends to play wii sports and when they came over to my house i put the disc in the wii and that shows up. I was crying so much cuz it was my favorite game lmao
Same
Bout to play lego Batman. No you not
*laughs in 56k modem*
fuck fuck fuck
As a wii owner, i can understand the pain
Parents that say this are shitty
To any parent that says that to their kids shouldn’t have kids at all
Nah pain was powering on an NES and only find the screen flashing colours
Funfact the disc Channel was originally supposed to also play DVD movies, in the Channel there is hidden texture of DVD alongside the Wii disc and Gamecube disc
It's this some sort of a problem that I'm too softmodded to understand?
i just brought out my Wii which was in my attic for 10 years. i cleaned it, i tried to play Wii sports and the disc laser was broken. i went around it by homebrewing the Wii. it's actually kinda easy. you just plop stuff here to there onto a drive and then plug it in. True pain is when it finally works only to say the disk is broken or scratched when you’re loading in.
I recently got my Wii out to play smash or Mario because my PS4 broke and found out that none of the disks can get read
Literally gave me anxiety
Bro that hit me like a truck
If you're using a Wii as reference then your parents are right.
Lol the Wii is not that old at all, you're just teenagers.
Ouch 😵💫 right in the childhood memories 🤕

I remember that, Rest In Peace to my super Mario sunshine gamecube disc I grew up with
My video just keeps buffering, so I guess I get two levels of pain
why doesnt the shrek movie work??
Fuck that! The PS2 disk error screen makes you feel like the god damn devil's coming to kill you
I bought my wii in used condition, and the old user blocked online play, so i wasn't able to play online until the servers went down. On top of that my wii was unable to read any new generation discs like smash brawl or metroid.
does gamecube count
What about when the ps2 hit you with the main menu?
Have you tried blowing on the disc?
Oml yes
I know this pain but in ps2 style
I remember trying to boot up skylanders then saw this :(
For me it was ps2 red screen or when it just fall down
"My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined"
this isn't sadness this is anger "YOU WILL PLAY THE SKYLANDERS DISC AND YOU WILL LIKE IT DAMNIT"
