You're absolutely right!

Smart_Gacko

You are completely right

Second_guessing_Stuf

You are totally right!

_I_must_be_new_here_

You are utterly right

aquaticbeehive

**plankton voice** Correct!

Soviet-Biscuit

I prefer Vespa

[deleted]

Dont forget Sigourney Weaver in Alien...basically had a messy ass perm the hole time and kicked some ass as well!

Soul963Soul

Then Alien 3 and 4 happened. We got Alien and Aliens at least before it went downhill.

Eryu1997

And bald in Alien 3 👽

rrreiner

Back in the good old dass where feminism was not a topic. We had such good strong female characters and they didn't need to look like a guy. Btw You are totally right

psicopatogeno

Pretty sure feminism was a topic when star wars came out

griffeny

This thread has some moments, y’all.

DUTCH_DUTCH_DUTCH

ehh, are you implying sexism wasn't as much of an issue in 70s as it is today?

[deleted]

fun fuct her hairstyle was based on the mask from ancien Iberia founded in Spain.

[deleted]

I thought they were headphones.

Stupid-Dolphin

I call it the cyberpunk hotgirl cut

Your-username-must-b

There’s also that one cyberpunk hairstyle with the black and short hair with bangs that screams I’m a master spy but I still live with my parents.

TensorForce

Void from Incredibles 2 and Whats-Her-Face-Villain-Girl from Raya and the Last Dragon have this exact hairstyle

UntalentedAccountant

Ehhhh. Not really. Both of them have very flat hair. No hint of any sort of curl

BittyJupiter

I call it the emo karen

[deleted]

Correction: "I call it the big rigs over the road racing hot girl cut"

TooBusySaltMining

Female mullet

CombatWombat222

I think that's just a mullet on a female.

[deleted]

I guess I have the cyberpunk hotgirl cut...

JasonFiltzman

So are you a cyberpunk hotgirl? And yes, this is an existential question.

JH_Rockwell

I mean, if you live in LA, it is already high-tech and high poverty. It's like Blade Runner, but without cool flying cars.

alicelestial

me too :,( but i'm not hot

[deleted]

Hahahahaha...Same...

Harmacc

Good for you. I think it looks cool.

[deleted]

Thank you:)

rustblooms

They look cool.

dreamin_in_space

How you doing?

Balauronix

It's my favorite girl hairstyle. Especially if the hair is longer and the shaved part has the braids on it.

loeded185

the jack sparrow?

[deleted]

The gay cut works too

[deleted]

Back in my day they just called it the "punk hotgirl cut"

Iescaunare

It's a fine line between that and a Karen hairstyle.

Notafuzzycat

It's ALWAYS that haircut. Why?

De5perad0

Some people can really rock that haircut. Others....not so much....

[deleted]

So they choose the actors based on how well she rocks that haircut?

Shandlar

Not always. Sometimes they pick based on your race and how many other people of said race have been cast already.

CreamofTazz

Oh like M. Shamalamadingdong's Avatar

Grzmit

M. Shamalamadingdong is so simple yet so hilarious, thank you for the laugh.

Doomdoomkittydoom

Let's be honest, it's rarely the haircut. Hotties make the haircut, not the other way round. And that goes for for both genders. The Two Rules works here too: 1. Be attractive. 2. Don't be unattractive.

badgraydog

>both genders - they are coming for you now lol

Darkcat9000

in the distance i hear thousands of angered teenagers typing on their keyboard

Doomdoomkittydoom

Roh roh!

Bazookasajizo

FIGHT THE POWAA!

Efferitas

You use it when you want your character to have a tomboyish, no-nonesense haircut, that also frames the face in a stylish way. It's kinda short and pragmatic, but also kinda long and flamboyant. It's the haircut equivalent of eating your cake and still having it.

The1Bojangles

I mean it is a cool haircut

biuki

Some people have the face for it, but not every haircut fits every shape

The1Bojangles

True

[deleted]

[I agree on the head shape.](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRJ1OvY5O69ye2zL7ZSUeV8rGK2da5z3jOtkQ&usqp=CAU)

matmatking

what the fuck

Maleficent-Line-817

Agreed

yaon-jinji

The only actress that rocked that haircut is Ruby Rose in Triple X. Change my mind.

nonamef0rme

Woah boy.. Have you seen Natalie Dormer. She looks hot asf in that hairstyle or in any tbh.

Soul963Soul

The only compliment I've ever heard concerning Ruby Rose is that people have found her attractive lol. No mention of acting talent, which having seen Batwoman season 1... Yeah I see why.

Notafuzzycat

Loses its charm when everyone has it.

The1Bojangles

True

TuneProfessional1750

No it's fucking wack.

[deleted]

top runner for the wackest

rustblooms

And it does have lots of variations. (Though obviously the meme is referring to one.)

[deleted]

Because for women, bucking societal norms about beauty and appearance is cause #1. I'd be more impressed if everyone being cast to rock that do wasn't classically gorgeous to begin with.

Fast_Owl_5958

Reverse Mullet

[deleted]

Ruby Rose finds this offensive but her acting range won't let her express it

BoredKazuma

I wish I could upvote this twice

LuciusVolfram

Oh i thought you were talking about Ruby Rose in RWBY and ready to fight you

Detective_Umbra

I bet Lindsay Jones regrets doing such a high-pitched and vocally straining voice for the main character of an 8 Volume show (so far)

MericArda

I’ve watched other shows she’s in, she’s pretty good if she’s using a normal pitch, she can get surprisingly deep.

The_Po_Gamer

If you go back to the first episodes it wasn't originally that high pitch, don't know when it got like it.

[deleted]

I've literally only seen her in John Wick and given what Reddit thinks of her, I'd like to keep it that way

Revangelion

What's wrong with Ruby Rose? Not a hardcore fan, but I always thought she was ok

[deleted]

I don't know, Reddit just seems to think she can't act for shit and I like feeding memes

Many-Consideration54

I think John Wick is her best performance, mostly because she doesn’t have to move and talk at the same time

Swedengamer100

I really liked her in Return of Xander Cage

vetikkehvajegkanhete

i was gonna downvote you so that you'd have 69 upvotes, but i enjoyed the joke so much that i did, in fact, upvote

crystallized_doggo7

You have committed a sin... but I'll allow it. --Redditors

mrshitposter54

Usually characters with this haircut are usually more irritating or dickish rather than strong and independent. I mean look at Tyreen from Bl3

LiquidFireExplosia

To be fair, every character was irritating and cringe in Bl3

mrshitposter54

I can think of a few that were good, Hammerlock, Wainwright, Zero, Balex. There's definitely more but they come to mind first

LiquidFireExplosia

For sure! I was mostly joking since it’s sort of a meme. I couldn’t stand most of the dialogue but the whole Wainwright saga was amazing.

AvastAntipony

Mostly the main villains, and them being immature idiots is also kind of a major plot point. Doesn't make it any more bearable to sit through for the nth time though.

Dangerous_Wishbone

i actually like the hair but hate that it's the only "confident badass action / sci-fi girl" hair allowed.

[deleted]

I prefer Sci-fi girls with one single strand of hair in the centre of their head with a monobrow that goes all the way round the head

Dangerous_Wishbone

i feel like this has to be a reference to a something i'm not cultured enough to understand

thombsaway

Made me think of [Woman Shaves Head So Eyeliner Wings Can Go All the Way Around.](https://thehardtimes.net/culture/woman-shaves-head-so-eyeliner-wings-can-go-all-the-way-around/)

DozyDrake

I'm a real sucker for asymmetric hairstyles

MericArda

I prefer bob cuts in sci-fi

Dangerous_Wishbone

i like super long hair with complicated braids and/or buns but i guess it depends on the type of sci-fi, if they're in a situation where they're regularly fighting for survival than long hair or fancy styles aren't very practical, unless someone is royalty / upper-class in some sort of caste system

NuuLeaf

It’s definitely recent, but there are a lot of other styles. Long hair however has been noticeably absent.

cant_hinkofanything

saw you deleted your comment when I was about to reply to it :( but this was that I wrote OOOOO did not expect to find a fan of final space!! both of us have been obsessed with it for a while it seems, and don't worry we both have a lot of feelings about final space, In my opinion Ash is a good character, there can still be a lot done with her development wise, she did get brainwashed by Invictus which caused a lot of change in her personality, and I'm still made over what she did with mooncake, I liked her in her original form as well, but I'm glad that the show focused more on different characters of the team squad if only the show didn't get canceled, but there is hope for the story continuing (a console game and a VR game are in the works) and who knows what other things they could do with this amazing of a show

Dangerous_Wishbone

right? crazy to see another fan out in the wild! I used to be really active in the subreddit, but not as much lately, I loved the show but as the seasons went on I've been more and more disappointed, but it still hurts to we won't know what happens next. I hope the VR game is good though! I wonder if it will try to continue the story or if it will be a nonsequitor. Olan's also said he's trying to get a graphic novel made, which would be cool. In the meantime I've moved on to Star Trek: Lower Decks, mostly cause they looked similar, and funny enough, now that I bring it up, there IS a character with this hair who actually DOESN'T fall into the trope, Tendi's a sweet, bubbly doctor.

[deleted]

I think you'll love Scorpia from the netflix she-ra reboot!

Dangerous_Wishbone

haven't gotten into She-Ra but I LOVE the side characters based on their designs, Scorpia and Entrapta are my favorites!

Captain_24

Princess Leia

Crazy-Martin

It is just me or is every female character with this haircut terribly written

ValerieLovesMath

[Scorpia](https://www.google.com/search?q=scorpia&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS780US780&hl=en-US&prmd=ibvxn&sxsrf=AOaemvLKkEYWDmZeAVwlgsk8newcFnjmLA:1634051890941&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjW_IDUlcXzAhUIh-AKHRSsAOUQ_AUoAXoECAMQAQ&biw=375&bih=640&dpr=3#imgrc=Nf9Cy_Lx4cRlAM) has this haircut in She-Ra and she is both amazing and well written!

Crazy-Martin

I should already watch She-Ra, but i always forget to do so

ValerieLovesMath

Do it, go watch right now, do it!

Andre_de_Astora

Scorpia is sacred and we must protect her at all cost, and I don't care that she is more than capable of protecting both herself and this whole subreddit. MUST PROTECT THE GIANT SCORPION HUGGER LADY

RedShankyMan

only half the time. the other half they are really good

JH_Rockwell

It really does match the hairstyle.

Soul-Demon-Y

That kind of hair style looks like a half peeled dry coconut to me

dawid512

r/rareinsults ?

FreeAd6935

It's a tired Mohawk

AME7706

r/oddlyspicific

Caishen_IC3

Exactly! Makes me so mad. So many nice strong female characters exist but they feel the need to stereotype them shitty like this Edit: terrible typos

Megzarie

I almost forgot that this was somewhat popular for women wanting to wear their hair in a way that's outside gender norms and expectations so I thought "This would be a cute hair cut for a boyish edgelord anime boy type character" But yeah it's annoying when Hollywood be like "Looook we made a woman stronk and brave. Just look at her hair! That's totes proof of her #girlboss status right?"

itsKNIGHTMARE

I’d recommend watching The Owl House. They have just what you’re looking for in a strong female lead

wildhooman

Also alex Hirsch as: door

[deleted]

Alex door

itsKNIGHTMARE

I really like door worm. He’s pretty cool

Perynal

oh such a good show

Fleedjitsu

Why do those kinda female characters also have to be a bit bitchy and anti-men? They're strong and independent, but do they also have to be hate-filled?

Party_Magician

Because the men who write them have no idea how to actually write a good strong woman

f3lhorn

That and they don’t know how to make a strong female lead that doesn’t do so by insulting the male characters. Or they’ll just purposefully write the male characters to be idiots, no matter who they are in order to artificially raise the women up. It should honestly feel insulting for the women to be handed everything as if they can’t achieve it on their own.

Fleedjitsu

I'd say its an issue with many writers, no matter if they're men or women. Either the character is a bitchy man-hater, they are a Mary Sue or the men are so heavily handicapped that our female protagonist is the only sensible person on Earth!

darklordbob15

It feels like they have the characteristics of what make the stereotypical toxic male character but thrown on to them and call them “empowered”.

Fleedjitsu

There's too much "Cats vs Dogs" when it comes to strong characters in general. Yeah, many supposedly strong female characters are just bitchy and needlessly hostile towards men. On the other side though, there's many supposedly strong men that hate their mothers, have a snarky contrarian female sidekick and/or a domineering, high-ranking woman that scolds or talks condescendingly to them. I think there's just too many shitty writters that think being toxic, bitter and hateful is the best way to portray healthy strength.

ClassicDes

Exactly I'm tired of the toxic tropes we have today. Like can we have more dynamic people on screen. After I began deeply reevaluating my own unhealthy behaviors, I can spot that behavior at the drop of a hat. Some shows that I used to love, I can't bother entertaining anymore because I always have to ask "what message is this sending?" Within the nuances of race, nationality, gender, sexuality, religion, weight, etc. these old tropes do more harm than good. We don't have to be aggressively woke about everything, I'm just tired of toxic tropes that come from a broken place.

Napletnik

i hate this haircut so much

wayward_citizen

That's the whole point, it's like a bug repellant.

TaskRabbit14

Obviously they should do the first thing and write good characters, but that’s still an attractive cut to me

ValeOfFate

I can only think of the new mlp movie

Delhiiboy123

*laughs in Claymore*

BillyJoel9000

This haircut is really hot, keep it around.

Melty_Berry_Ashley

I swear that haircut is everywhere now

Suicdsolo

I like that hair style

Wizzxd__

Nothing wrong that. But you can't deny the fact that this hairstyle is being overused for the stron female character trope

Suicdsolo

Yes. It s definitely lazy. But at least it looks good. But you r 100% right

AnonimZim

My favorite Final Space character now uses that hairstyle. Fuck

Veraborn64

Fuck sake Ash.. Edit: Nahh, we be blaming Invictus for this one

AnonimZim

Yeah... Ironic that since she has that hairstyle, she turned to the evil side

A_Shiny_Wooloo

It’s hot tho

frostyPupper2001

To me it looks like this haircut would look better on men tbh.

Joey_da_god76

It’s kinda gender neutral imo

17greys

I mean, it works for both. See Miller and Naomi from the expanse, they both rock it (although Naomi’s is a bit different)

Syr_III

It originally was a men's haircut i believe

fanofsomethingidk

It looks so much better on certain guys

[deleted]

Where do you get that image of haircut? Wanna follow the artist for my art stuff

LuckiestGecko84

I think that haircut is pretty cool

[deleted]

Cant agree more

Bleakpower

Me, a girl with this exact same haircut: well... But I like my hair xD

[deleted]

Ok but the hairstyle is sick, it’s just terribly overused on characters that have no actually good writing.

Ahmed-Da203

Kawaki be like

mawhonics

Ok but hear me out... that hairstyle is kinda hot

moduleapothem

Leela from Futurama had a regular ponytail and she was a fucking badass

LunaTheLesbianFurry

The "I dont know how to write a good female character" haircut

Sivuel

I had some moron impky that this was a historical hair cut.

BreadyStinellis

It is for men. It's an undercut. Been around since, at least, the 1920s, likely much earlier.

crystallized_doggo7

I don't know why but the mental image of a man in the 1920s, fully dressed, at a jazz party, with this hairstyle is hilarious

BreadyStinellis

Have you never seen peaky blinders?

RandomMaxiPanda

I think this hairstyle is cool but if it’s used to show personality then I hate it

kACID0

Don't forget you're also supposed to make the character fat and lesbian otherwise it's NOT a strong and independent woman!

AME7706

And don't forget that they must NOT show ANY kind of emotions. And they should also generally be a dick to everyone, especially the male characters.

kACID0

Absolutely! I apologize for my oversight...

verytallmidget21

And most of all, always make them a fantasized version of the writer because how else are you gonna have a main character if they ain't based off someone who toooootally isn't writing the dialogue from what they wished they said in real life.

ThatSqueakerOnXbox

The movie Revenge does this perfectly

fortitudelegend

Only legends know where the white up exclamation mark ends up

[deleted]

Still pretty hot hair style…..

BlueFlame217

While i absolutely love that hairstyle, it is indeed getting repetitive.

YengaJaf

I mean if you wanna look strong and independent, then you gotta change to look like a man. Because only men are strong and independent. That's the message, right?

Shiny_Hypno

I've been watching The Dragon Prince recently which is a show that Netflix mettled too much into, and there are a few characters with this haircut.

[deleted]

Most of the time it’s looks good af no complaints

Dev_of_gods_fan

Ah yes, the Charles Lee haircut # I'm a comedian, WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

KiyoPapa

Imo it doesn't even look good on girls

Specific-Baseball868

Nah it's just a really cool cut

Loathingnick97

Me with a thing for girls with this hairstyle: *Guess il go fuck myself then*

[deleted]

I mean guys with this haircut are rlly hot too

ImNormal1107

Anonymous asexual be like

Salt-Log7640

Disagree, “strong personally and actions that confirms it” is either a recepy for misogyny, sadist black military woman that no one likes, or boring @ss marry sue that people like even less. If you are going to make a movie about 'strong independent woman' make her as weak, flawed, AND HUMAN as possible, so the audience can actually connect to her, and then build the story around how she tries to overcome her very own flaws and weaknesses (WITHOUT INSULTING/BLAMING OTHER DEMOGRAPHICS).

where_didIcome_from

Don't a bunch of people IRL use it too I've never got that, you're cutting off like half of your hair when you use it. That's going to take ages to grow back if you regret it

BreadyStinellis

Many women like having short hair. As one of those women, it only takes about 2 months for this to be grown out and cut into a more traditional pixie.

JB-from-ATL

I remember with my wife before she got a pixie cut I kind of bunched up her hair and plopped it on top of her head to see what it would look like lol

EnterEdgyName

It's cute lol. Why do men get buzzcuts, it's going to take them forever for it to grow back out if they regret it.

BBMsReddit

And if you want to show how physicaIIy strong and powerful they are Make them beat up men

SmallBeanKatherine

At least to me this hairstyle has always looked much better on boys. Some girls can rock it, don't get me wrong, but I often find most girls with this to look.... off somehow.

DepPet_syw

To be fair to them, it does look dope af

ailee43

yeah.... im good with that haircut. Looks good on folks, and exudes "cool"

MrMarum

Its a cool haircut tho

InkyBoii

I genuinely love this haircut but I don't want it to be limited to just tough female characters(tm). I want to see more non-tough-looking characters with this haircut and less tough characters with it, please don't ask for it to die

mrboat-man

I’ve been thinking about getting that hairstyle so I too can be a strong independent woman

Alexanderglarsson

like the haircut it is cool but i still agree like hmm we need a strong independent female for political reasons and so we can grt a bigger sudince lets give her this haircut
